n the sequel to Chasing Dragons, Claire Lance’s road is coming to an end…Lance and Jodie take to the road together, wandering through the southwest with no particular destination in mind. In the middle of the Nevada desert, they stumble across something neither of them can ignore and walk into the middle of a local sheriff’s private kingdom. Offended by the abuse of power the cops display, Lance takes it upon herself to take the sheriff out of power no matter what the cost. Meanwhile unlikely forces from Lance’s past align, shedding new light on Elaine’s murder and Lance’s alibi. FBI Agent Faye Mallory takes it upon herself to tie everything together and, she hopes, put an end to Lance’s running for good. But with Lance facing one of her most brutal enemies to date, her luck may already be running out.
Geonn Cannon is a male author who grew up in Oklahoma, thousands of miles from the nearest coastline, who found his calling in stories about women who live on an island in the Pacific Northwest. In 2010, Geonn became the first male author to win the prestigious Golden Crown Literary Society Award for his novel "Gemini." In 2015, he won it again for "Dogs of War." He has written two official tie-in novels for Stargate SG-1, and his Riley Parra novels have been turned into an Emmy-nominated webseries by Tello Films. His first name is pronounced just like "John."
This story follows the recurring theme throughout the series; Claire, a woman on the run after being wrongfully accused of murder. She’s also a character who comes across trouble no matter where she goes. More accurately, she encounters other people in trouble, and due to her personality she is unable to simply turn her back on them and walk away.
So as her and Jodie make their way across the country hoping for a peaceful road trip, it turns out to be anything but, when they come across a dead body. As with the other books this story has plots running alongside each other, effortlessly.
The story is told in third person, mostly from Claire’s POV but also from Jodie’s, Doc’s and a few other recurring characters. Faye finally sees the error of her ways and makes an attempt to redeem herself.
I kind of figured there would be violence in this book, as Claire is a kickass heroine, but the violence in this one, more so when Claire is punched in the face and beaten by men, made me sick to the stomach.
I found a number of plot devices to be rather convenient, but hey it’s a fictional world, and they worked. The suspense toward the end built at a great pace, hurtling the reader to a climatic ending.
There are a few erotic scenes to sate the appetite, and not all of them between the main characters. I simply loved Claire and Jodie as a couple and couldn’t have asked for a better outcome.
I’ve really enjoyed this series, have recommended it to many others, and will continue to do so. However, to get the most out of each story, each book really should be read in order.
Interesting pace, nice change of heart for a recurring secondary character, a few insight about former secondary characters and good tiny touches of humor helping to slightly relieve the suspense of this novel (maybe my favorite in the series) but, once again this good book is wasted by too many typos and other tiny mistakes and that’s a real shame ...
The Claire Lance story has concluded and I am pretty satisfied with the ending. The characters that Claire encountered really held my interest and made the story line intriguing as well as entertaining. Jodie is a wonderful character full of positive vibes and knows what she wants and she wants Claire. The soul searching and transformation of Faye Mallory was interesting to watch. The dedication of her partner, Antonia Lazareva was a test in faith, belief and almost unbelievable depth of heart .
I've been putting off reading this book for months. I just did not want my love affair with Claire Lance to end. This has been a fantastic series, and I'm sad to say goodbye to the characters. What Matter Wounds, book 5, was great just like all the others in this series. Cannon did a wonderful job of bringing back many of the best characters (even if just a cameo) to wrap up this series. All the lose ends were finally tied up, and he gave the series a deserving ending. Lance is a lesbian superhero and I really enjoyed reading about her journey. I would recommend this action packed series to anyone. If I remember correctly, the "romance" doesn't really start until book 3. But all the books are enjoyable, and you won't be disappointed. These are not standalones, so if you are new to the series, start at book 1, sit back and enjoy the ride!
Whilst I didn't want the Claire Lance series to end, this book was pretty epic! Faye won me over and I've always thought Toni was awesome. Then you have Jodie... what a little firecracker.
Finally, Claire has been such a great character to lose hours and hours of reading time in. Geonn Cannon has a real knack for writing strong, admirable and hot characters and the fact they're women make them even more badass.
I loved the series and I'm glad that I started reading it so late so I was able to read all the books straight after the other.

I really enjoyed the story as I have in the past with the other Claire Lance novels. It was great and exciting going on this journey with Claire and the people she met along the way. Jodie is definitely good for her and Faye deserved the closure as well. Thanks for a great read.
It's the Finish and the conclusion to a great ride! From a painful journey to a more comfortable life for both main characters this series was intense and a little exciting. Highly recommended series to everyone!
