Stormi is a romance writer with a bit of writer's block. When she accidently stumbles over the body of a neighbor, she decides she wants to try writing a mystery and solving the crime seems to be the perfect way to do it.

This is the first book in the nosy neighbor series and is quite light reading with some zany characters. And while trying to develop the characters, I thought the mystery itself seemed a bit weak, and the voice a bit too young for the character. I think there were a lot of stumbles which I struggled with a bit while reading, but I think there is a lot of room for the series to grow, so will give book two a chance.

This book is part of the Mystery, Murder and Mayhem Collection, Seven Deadly Mysteries by Best-Selling Sleuths. I'm not sure where you can get the entire collection--I'm not finding it under that name on Amazon or Barnes and Noble--but you can get the individual books from these places. I'm not reviewing the whole collection anyway--only the inspirational ones. I review Christian books without sex scenes or more than very minor profanity,

This would be another great one for Halloween. It's got a frightened damsel in frequent distress, a spooky peeping tom, weird neighbors doing unexplainable things, and murders by the score. Okay, maybe only a couple of murders, but you get the picture.

Stormi Nelson is a best-selling romance novelist, but her publisher wants her characters to have more individuality than they've had. Stormi is an introvert, one who'd just love to spend all her time writing and ignore the world, but she thinks maybe she should branch out into mystery writing. There's been a murder in her neighborhood, so she volunteers to be head of the neighborhood watch. In fact, the only member. And so she goes a-sleuthing and gets herself into and out of pickles from hither to yon.

She might not have done so much sleuthing, but the detective assigned to the case is positively straight out of the steamiest romance novel ever written. Besides that, Stormi's mother, sister, and sister's two teenagers have moved in with her. The nephew, her mother, and reluctantly, her sister, join in the sleuthing. So does the detective's sister.

Goodness, what a delightful mess!

This book was so good!! It's a true cozy in that it's not creepy. You won't be afraid to be home alone reading it. It was a little hard to get into at first but once I did, I couldn't read fast enough. It was so funny! I laughed until I cried at some scenes and the ending was perfect! I'm so glad I ordered the next 3 in this series!

I really enjoyed this nice little mystery. The MC and her family are quite unique and so are their neighbors. That poor cop certainly had his hands full. Overall, a good book to curl up with and enjoy a nice day.

I love cozy mysteries, and when there is humor, a splash of romance that's even better. The main character is a romance writer who turns sleuth when she finds a dead body in her neighborhood. Plenty of twists and a not so easy to solve mystery made this a page turner that isn't easy to put down. As a fan of good clean reads this one certainly fit the bill. I feel like Cynthia Hickey has hit a home run with the first book in her Nosey Neighbor Mystery series, and I for one will certainly be watching for the next installment in the series!

Quirky and zany

A good read. Okay the mystery, although I didn't guess the culprit, wasn't really all that great but the antics of our heroine and her zany family were. From our introvert, hermit like author to the wannabe sleuth, skateboarding fanatic nephew. Then there is the romance factor which is sweet and played well throughout the read.
Her solitary existence is overturned. First by the dead body she finds, the handsome detective she meets and then the unexpected arrival of her mother, her newly divorced sister and her teenage nephew and niece. Plus don't forget the dead woman's dog. Now she has a full house to add to her two cats. Her editor had been on at her to live life and add more realism to her books. A romantic mystery. With the unwanted help from her mother and nephew she start investigating. Add in an exotic dancer, a peeping Tom, a couple who are hiding something, another body and a budding romance. Will they find the killer or will the killer find them?

Romance author Stormi Nelson moves into a new home in the private community of Oak Meadows Estates and nothing is ever the same for her again. One of the first things she does is join the Neighborhood Watch Program and goes on patrol. Of course she’s the only member of the program, so everything is pretty much left in her hands. When she stumbles on a dead body, Stormi comes up with a new idea. She wants to write a romantic mystery and what better way to start then by investigating the murder she literally stumbled upon? You can’t get better research than investigating the real thing.

Stormi quickly learns that investigating murders isn’t all that easy. To top it all off, her mother, sister, niece and nephew barge into her new home. They move in and fast become fixtures in her house, which is now theirs. Then, she meets Detective Matthew Steele who isn’t happy with her interfering in his investigation to say the least. It doesn’t stop Stormi, although she’d much rather date the handsome detective than argue with him.

With the help of her mother, Stormi sticks her nose in all her neighbor’s business and fast becomes the community’s number one nuisance. She, also, discovers that many of her neighbors had a reason to kill the victim. Now, someone seems to have a reason to want her dead. Obviously, she’s making someone very nervous with what she uncovers – most likely the killer.

This is a LOL cozy mystery meets chick lit and romance. The romance is very sweet and the murder mystery has no blood or gore. The characters are lovable and the story is not very complicated, although it does take many twists and turns until we learn whodunit. Stormi and her mother make quite a pair. I kept thinking of Lucy and Ethel from I Love Lucy. Stormi even has the red hair to match.

This book is the first in the series and a very enjoyable way to spend an afternoon. I’m going to check out the author’s backlist and see what other books she’s written.

When romance writer Stormi Nelson moves into a Victorian mansion in Oak Meadows Estates, she thinks she’s found the perfect place to write her next bestseller. Although she wants to stay curled up in her house in front of the computer, her agent tells her to get out and meet people to breathe some new life into her characters. So Stormi decides to start a Neighborhood Watch program. But her first night on patrol, she discovers that the neighborhood is less than idyllic when she stumbles over a dead body. Things start to look up when the handsome detective who lives down the street comes to her aide. But then she returns home to find that her mother, sister, niece and nephew are moving in, and soon another victim is found dead. As Stormi immerses herself deeper and deeper into the mystery, the neighbors begin to turn on her. She realizes that she has to act before the killer turns on her and her family too.

ANYTHING FOR A STORY is a riot (and I'm not talking about all the noise Stormi and her family makes). I absolutely love the crazy characters that live in Oak Meadows Estates, and I'm particularly fond of Rusty because he's "special." Stormi's family is lots of fun too. Her skate-boarding nephew turns out to be a super sleuth, and her mother is a savvy spy. And the cute relationship that forms between Stormi and her mom is one of the best parts of this story—besides the kissing scenes with sexy Detective Steele, of course!

This book catches your attention right from the beginning. Stormi Nelson writes Christian Romance Books, but when she changes gears and starts to write Mysteries.....she gets a lot more than she bargains for. For starters, she stumbles over something one night while on neighborhood watch that surprises her. Then her family moves in with her and that starts a new set of blunders.

Detective Matt Steele is Stormi's Handsome neighbor who is at a loss at what to do with her. He is always getting her out of trouble because it seems to follow her everywhere she goes. Sometimes he gets in trouble because of her. He is a really good guy and has LOTS of patience.

Mary Ann Steele is Matt's sister. She is very pretty and outgoing. She becomes Stormi's best friend and accomplice on her adventures. Mary Ann lives with Matt which makes his job harder.

Ann Nelson is Stormi's Mom.......She drives Stormi crazy because she always wants to always go with her on her adventures to keep her out of trouble or either help her find it.

Angela Nelson is Stormi's sister. She is a single mom of two teenagers. She is very pretty and social with men. Angela is jealous of Stormi.

All these women keep Matt on his toes! To find out if he survives and to see if they solve the mystery, you have to read the book. Happy Reading!!

Such a great start to a new cozy series! Loved the humor and romance sprinkled throughout this book. I can't get enough of the characters in Oak Meadows Estates. They are fun, a little crazy, and a whole lotta special in the sleuthing sorta way.
Stormi is new to town thanks to her editor telling her that her characters are stale and she needed a change of scenery. Stormi is a best selling romance author and to get out in the neighborhood and mingle she decides to head the neighborhood watch. Boy does she end up mingling when her first patrol ends up with her literally stumbling over a dead body! Then she meets her neighbor handsome Detective Steele. What a way to meet! Yikes
Stormi's world is about to be disrupted again when her mom, sister, niece, and nephew move in, uuuggghhhh. So much for quiet. She ends up getting heavily involved with the murder investigation and has an epiphany about writing romantic mysteries instead of just romance. Go figure. Some things should probably be left up to the professionals but Stormi has a mind of her own. Will she find the killer before her neighbors roast her??? Or will she be the next victim?
Can't wait for book two.
I recieved this book from The BookClub Network for an honest review.

I enjoyed this book, it was a fun read! I think this is the first time I have read a cozy where the amateur sleuth is a romance writer. I loved her name too, Stormi, it just sounds like she should be a romance writer. The story flows along nicely with some clues given about the neighbors and who the killer might be, but I didn't figure it out until the end when it was revealed. I don't think I even had any suspicions as to whodoneit. There is a love story between Stormi and Matt, the police detective, but it is very G rated.

I think this could be a good series going forward and I look forward to reading more by this author.

This is the first book in the Nosy Neighbor Mystery series. It's about Stormi, a romance author, who literally trips over a dead body in a neighbor's yard. She decides she wants to switch to writing mysteries instead of romance and that she wants to solve this mystery. However, she acts more like a teenager than a 23-year-old and puts herself and her family in great danger because of her thoughtless antics--like breaking into neighbors houses to look for clues. She has a crush on the hunky neighbor who is a policeman and who warns her over and over to stop investigating. There is no sex in this book and the language is clean.

I loved reading this book! Stormi Nelson is a fantastic character who really keeps you reading past your bedtime. Stormi finds the perfect house that she thinks will be a great place for her to write her story. Then her family moves in and everything changes. When a murder takes place it sends the family and the town in an uproar and the neighbors are turning against her. Stormi has to do something to calm the neighbors down and find the killer before her and her family become the next victims. You will start this book and not want to put it down!

Family Affair

I love this book about Stormi,a best selling romance author and her unconventional family. Storming has volunteered to do Neighborhood watch and stumbles over a dead body ,gets hit in the head and crawls into a doghouse to hide.
She calls 911 and this starts the hilarious adventure and a handsome police officer. The story moves quickly and I love the character interaction.
The author keeps us in suspense til the end and I didn't guess.
Thanks for a fun cozy mystery.

This is a new author for me and I love her

My reviews are never a synopsis of the book more how I feel about the story. I loved this book so much and I can't wait to read the rest of the series. I haven't read Cynthia Hickey before this book and I loved it. There was a great mystery and the hint of a budding romance, maybe? Stormi is a wonderful character as well as her mother, Ann. All of the characters are well developed and believable. This story will make you smile and make you cry, it's a winner. Great author, great mystery. Don't miss it.

I love cozy mysteries and Cynthia Hickey has written an exceptional story. I loved Stormi's character. As the story proceeds, Stormi tries to solve a murder which occurred in her neighborhood. Sometimes funny and sometimes not so funny situations keep her hopping. There is so much going on, I couldn't put it down because I just had to know what was going to happen and who did the murder. Thoroughly enjoyed this story and I highly recommend it. I received a copy in exchange for an honest review.

Hilarious Murder Mystery?

Stormi Nelson, romance author, living in a Victorian home in a gated community, decides to start a Neighborhood Watch program as a means to meet her new neighbors. Problem is, Stormi is the only volunteer. After she stumbles over a body while on her patrol one dark, rainy night, she decides to write a murder mystery. But first, she must solve the mystery! Stormi's mother, older (divorced) sister, niece and nephew move in with Stormi and all eventually get involved in the investigation! Great, easy read for a beach weekend.

This was so fun to read.. I can totally see nosy neighbors doing this. What starts out as a walk about for the Neighborhood Watch Program suddenly turns into an attack and a murder! As as author, Stormi just can't let this mysterious murder be left to the Police and she starts her own investigation. Oh my! The trouble she stirs up and gets into. Murder, mysteries, mishaps like squeezing through a doggie door and getting stuck! There was even a little romance for the romance writer to make this a fun and entertaining story.

A quick easy read. Light romance and mystery. Some inconsistencies which made the story confusing at times. I'm not sure why they called it a Christian mystery. A clean mystery would have been a better description.

How to rate? The writing was very stiff and shallow. There wasn't a lot of color and life to the book, and seemed like a lot of telling and not a lot of showing. I struggled through 82% of the book, but did want to find out how it was going to end and who the villain was, so kept going. The ending picked up quite a bit, more exciting even if the writing never improved. I have read other clean, cozy mysteries that sparkled and breathed with color and life, the characters were full, and the description rich and textured, which is what I had hoped for here. And which I did not get.

The villain was not who I suspected, which was nice. Stormi and her mom (and her nephew) broke all manner of laws, and I really thought that policeman was going to have to throw them in jail just to keep them away from the case, but he never did.

Stormi Nelson was a NY Times Bestselling author and a scaredy cat. That’s why you see her leading a neighborhood watch. Well, the thing was that her agent said that she needed more human interaction—fresh fodder for her books.

Hearing a dog bark in the distance, she follows the noise and trips over a body—a dead body. To top it all off, her mom, her sister, her niece, and her nephew all move in with her out of the blue. Yeah, that’ll make writing easy. Perhaps she could get away from writing romances and finally start on a mystery—starting with this case. And what better way to write it than to actually solve it? Anything for a mystery, right?

I thought this would be a nice, cozy mystery, but it kind of goes all over the place without much humor or wit. She’s mostly doing all this for a story, which mainly lags most of the time.

I did win this book, and unhappily have to say I was disappointed. The grammar errors were distracting, the lack of editing obvious - "Mr. Henley poked me in the back with her gun" - It was Mrs. Henley, there wasn't a Mr. Henley in the book. These types of errors were such a distraction I had a hard time moving beyond editing the book and getting into the story. There wasn't any or much character development, the sentence structure extremely simple, and a number of things never given much explanation as to why it happened.

If you want a very, very basic easy read, don't think much about what you're reading, this book might be for you. Once you get into the book and beyond the distracting type items mentioned above, you can zip right through it and you may find it enjoyable.

This is a really good cozy mystery and is the 1st book in this series. It is a Christian cozy mystery but it is light on religious references. It has family, friendship, humor, romance, and an intriguing mystery. Stormi is a romance writer who has recently moved to this gated community with interesting neighbors. Her Mom, sister, niece, & nephew just show up unannounced to move in with her. Once you get past that, they are likeable characters and add to the story. Stormi finds one of the neighbors dead. She meets another neighbor, Matt, who is a detective. Stormi, her family, and Matt's sister Mary Ann work together to figure out what is going on in theIraq neighborhood. It is a really enjoyable cozy mystery!

What a fun and entertaining story. Romance author, Stormi moves into a new neighborhood and is seeking inspiration for a new book. Little did she know that her life was getting ready to be turned upside down when a series of events take place, beginning when her family moves in. She meets a handsome detective who happens to be her neighbor and a mystery begins when a neighbor is murdered. Stormi inherits the lady's huge dog and she is determined to solve the murder. A comedy of errors seems to follow her throughout the story and as she pieces together the crime she may become the next victim.

I won this book on the Goodreads giveway sponsored by Winged Publications.

I received a free copy of this book through Goodreads First Reads in exchange for a fair review.
This cozy is familiar in some aspects: the main character is about to open a new chapter in her life after moving to a new neighborhood (Her mother, sister and her sisters’ children join her, too.), her new love interest is an irresistible cop, and there are murder mysteries to be solved. This book is easy to read, flows well, funny, and entertaining, but I didn’t like the fact there are so many clichés in the book. The covers help sell books, and I think, professionally designed cover may help sell more books. Three and a half stars.
