This was a quick read that I breezed through. It was a very entertaining romantic suspense. Tess is a bodyguard on a much needed vacation. Taking a break at her Uncle Jack's secluded mountain cabin seems like just what she needs. She is stunned when a strange man stumbles through her door with a gash on his head and a gunshot wound to his leg. She takes care of him and soon learns he is Shane Burkhart, owner of a big technology corporation.
Shane remembers hiking through the woods and falling over the edge of a cliff. He was in that neck of the woods taking photographs, a hobby of his. When he comes to with a beautiful woman leaning over him and finds out she's a bodyguard, he hires her to protect him. Its obvious someone wants him dead and with the merger coming up with another company its entirely possible he has an enemy out to stop him.
Shane and Tess are attracted to one another right away. While Tess thinks its because she saved his life, Shane believes there's a lot more involved than a case of hero worship. He wants a chance to prove it to her.
Sweet romance with appealing characters and a nice plot.
This was meant to be a restful vacation but it has now turned into saving a life. Tess has just completed a case and she is having a good rest at her uncle's cabin but that all changes when she finds a man that has been shot and she isn't sure if he is a good or bad guy. Luckily she can take care of herself she is a bodyguard and she knows her stuff. Once her stranger wakes up she finds out that his name is Shane and that he owns a successful business and he doesn't know of anyone that would want him dead. She is able to keep him calm and just hopes for some guidance as she will have to leave him and go down the mountain by herself, her uncle arrives just in time and he stays with Shane while she gets help. Tess knows that she has to walk away as her feelings are all confused and she doesn't need this right now. After Shane is out of hospital he comes to find her as they need to settle things and he wants her to still protect him. Can this just be a simple job and she can just walk away afterwards? A great story.
Surprisingly fleshed out for such a short story. I didn't suspect the identity of the person behind the attacks on Shane. I wasn't thrilled that she thought it was "sweet" of Shane to "give her the choice" of whether or not she continued to work. Umm, no. Your life, your decision. Sure, the two of you can have a discussion and he can offer his opinion and hopefully you will consider his feelings, but the final decision is yours, not his. Otherwise, sweet story, interesting characters, good use of religious beliefs, some tension and action. I may or may not read more in the series.
A good read. Neither character development nor plot development were particularly deep, but it's a fairly short story. The characters are engaging and the story flows smoothly. I was interested to see a thread of faith throughout the book: that was a nice change from the steamier style so often seen
Deadly Hunt by Margaret Daley This contemporary romantic suspense was so exciting! There is such great tension between the main characters, Tess and Shane. Also great emotional connections between these characters. This is a very intense story!
# I received this book from InstaFreebees... for free!
I could lie and say I had high expectations for this book, but I didn't. Having said that, I did enjoy the book. For a while I had hopes that it would be more thriller than romance. But no.
This 1st book's story line was good. I liked Shane's character. I liked Tess's character. I really liked how Tess protected Shane. I liked the ending. This book was a good, quick, short story to read.
Deadly hunt, written by Margaret Daley, is the first book I've read by this author.
This was an interesting read. I think my favorite character was Shane. He's a businessman who is the owner of his own company and very much in control of his company and the things in his life...until he meets Tess. The action that takes place is totally out of his control which sets his world off kilter. Watching how Daley leads them through their issues and relationship is fun.
I think it the ending would have been a bit more drawn out it would have had a more complete ending. Ths book is for those who love contemporary suspense with a touch of romance. Clean read.
I was given a copy of this book. All thoughts and comments are my own.
A quick romance with the a slight reversal of roles where the female is who saved the male character. Fast paced and introduces emotion, action and romance all with a focus on faith and family. The premise was good, but I figured out the action, villain and outcome fairly quickly. Uncle Jack was my favorite and I wish there had been more about him and his skill sets or about their family background.
I thought this book was okay. The characters were good but the writing was sort of simplistic and it felt like this was written by someone inexperienced and green. I assume this is the author's first attempt at writing and will get better in future books.
I enjoyed the story as a whole but felt it was wrapped up too quickly and some tension and suspense were glossed over that would have made this a much better read overall.
Good bones but it needed work to make it really good.
Although I can honestly say that I am not a true outdoorsman, I thoroughly enjoy reading stories about people in the great outdoors. This first book in the Strong Women, Extraordinary Situations series begins with the heroine all alone in a remote cabin in the mountains of Arizona where she has gone for vacation. Initially it seems like such a tranquil place to go and unwind for a while although I would not want to make the long hike to get there. But her tranquility only lasts for a night. With the intrusion of a seriously wounded man bursting into her cabin and passing out in the floor, the tranquility is shattered. That truly is not the life for me but I can really get caught up in the story. The action is fast and the excitement continues throughout the pages of the book. It’s a quick read but held my interest to the final period. I recommend it to anyone who enjoys action, suspense, and romance in a Christian novel. I received a complimentary copy of this book from the author in exchange for my honest review.
Tess Miller is on vacation in the mountains when an injured man come crashing into her cabin. She isn't sure what happened she just knows she has to try to save him. After a painful childhood she doesn't want anything to do with a relationship so her job as a body guard fits her life style. The only problem is the longer she is around him the more drawn to him she is.
Tess is a bodyguard. She needed to get away after an assignment and went to rest and reflect on her work at her uncle's secluded cabin. Soon after she arrived she heard a gunshot and then, before she got a chance to do anything, a man fell against the cabin's door. Tess opened the door and found a man she did not know lying in front of the door and saw blood on his leg. The man was unconscious so she pulled him into the cabin and bolted the door. Shane had a bullet wound through his thigh that was bleeding. She cleaned and bandaged the wound and tried to get him to drink some water.
Who was this man? Who was the shooter? Why did he shoot Shane? Would Shane recover from his wound? Read this book to get the answers. I enjoyed the book and it was a quick read. Enjoy!
“Deadly Hunt”, first in the 'Strong Women, Extraordinary Situations” series is quite short. It's also got one character too many, i.e. God. He, she or it turns up every couple of pages but contributes absolutely nothing to the story. It's a bare bones bodyguard story with instalove thrown in for good measure. Tess Miller is taking a much-needed break in an isolated cabin in Arizona when a stranger, shot in the leg, stumbles in. It turns out that Shane Burkhart is a successful businessman on the verge of greatly expanding his company through a merger. And, obviously, he needs a bodyguard! It's downhill all the way from the dramatic opening – if it were longer I would not have bothered finishing it. 2 Stars.
This is probably the only contemporary waiting for me to read it. I actually liked it, despite the woman being the strong character. I suppose it didn't bother me so much for a couple reasons: first, she did feel inadequate. Second, the guy wasn't completely weak, and could take care of himself. Also, I appreciated that his wife died, instead of a divorce. This book was mostly void of modern occurrences that annoy me.
Just recently started reading this author so am not totally familiar with her work. This is the second book I have read; but the first of this series. So far I am impressed with this storyline. The character created is a female bodyguard, who is very good at her job, but on a personal level has commitment issues due to her family background. She now struggles with her attraction to the man she not only rescued but saved his life.
I read this Christian romantic suspense as part of a boxed set, Strong Women, Extraordinary Situations. I thought it was pretty well done for a quick read. There were numerous unlikely plot points, such as the main characters frequently putting themselves into danger unnecessarily, but it was still enjoyable.
5 stars I purchased Deadly Hunt by Margaret Daley and this review was given freely. A clean and suspenseful drama that is both action packed and a complete sweet romance. Tech company owner Shane by chance falls into the mountain cabin where bodyguard Tess is vacationing. This novel is complex has a good balance between action, intrigue, attraction, and Christian faith.
This story has well defined characters and a good story. There is a side story that is only partially resolved...but, maybe that was meant to be because not all can be resolved in life. Faith and conflict are handled well without overstatement of either. Good job.
