Mobilizing Men for One-on-One Ministry: The Transforming Power of Authentic Friendship and Discipleship

Rate this book
Men's breakfasts, golf outings, and other events still have a place in men's ministry. But Steve Sonderman is finding that the most effective ministry is relational rather than programmatic. Drawing from the successes at his church and others, Sonderman shows leaders how to motivate and mobilize their men to minister to each other. Readers learn what men are looking for today, how men grow spiritually, and how to develop a leadership pipeline in their church.

Great Book full of information, and I recommend this for those who are called to serve in the Men's ministry. It may take some time to put everything in this book into practice but this book is good for Leaders. This book almost like a Bible for men's leaders

I have been deeply disturbed for years about the feminization of the modern church. This is not to say that I am not extremely thankful for the godly women who serve so selflessly. In fact, were it not for them and their sacrifice, most churches would collapse. What I mean about the feminization of the modern church calls the absence of men into question more than some sinister revolt by the females. Men have abdicated their spiritual leadership. And it's time for that to change!

In Mobilizing Men for One-on-One Ministry, Steve Sonderman draws from the wealth of his personal experience as one of America's first full-time men's ministry leaders. He calls the church to a model of discipleship that is timely, biblically-based, and achievable.

The strengths of this book can be found in its practicality. Sonderman gives helpful tips that would benefit any men's ministry. The chapter on "Effective Small Groups" alone is worth the price of the book! I also love how he consistently points the reader to helpful tools in the discipleship process. While I wouldn't personally use all of those tools (Sonderman and I would probably have some slightly different theological convictions), most of them are very solid.

The reader should be aware that this book is written on a level that would best appeal to lay leaders. You won't find an academic treatise defending men's ministry; that isn't Sonderman's purpose.

All in all, I think this is one of the most practical and helpful books I have read on men's ministry in a long time!

Invaluable reference full of vital information regarding the building of a men's ministry and working hand in hand with the men of the church to get them working one on one with each other. The end goal is to build a self-sustaining men's ministry that will continue as a legacy for generations to come. Sonderman's advice is more than anecdotal, it is applicable and pertinent to today's church environment and the men therein. I highly recommend this valuable book for anyone interested in building a vital men's ministry, which should be anyone in any aspect of church ministry.
