As always with daily devotions, some are good, some not so much. I think I'd generally prefer a "best of", rather than a full year's worth.

I did like that Jeff Lucas bundled his devotions into themes, allowing him to dive deeper into Scripture, but found that I didn't always agree with his conclusions.

This book contains a year's worth of short Bible study passages and commentary, on a variety of topics. They're undated, so can be used in any year, and include subjects such as Jonah (in great depth), looking for God rather than his will, and a discussion of the church - what it is, what its purpose is, and so on.

There are two short passages to read for each weekday, and one longer one per weekend; each day takes up just one page of the book, so reading the whole is not onerous. The commentaries are mostly very interesting, sometimes shedding new light on something familiar, sometimes giving anecdotes from Lucas's own life. There is his usual self-deprecating humour in places, although as it's intended for personal devotions, there's plenty that is more serious too.

I've enjoyed some of Jeff Lucas's books in the past, and found this an interesting study guide for 2011. Recommended.
