From Deborah Truscott, author of the best-seller Out of Time, comes In the Nick... Kathleen and Robert Upton are an ordinary couple raising an ordinary family. Except that ordinary people don’t have a portal through time hidden in a garden shed. And when an accidental tumble sends them back to Robert’s native century, they are plunged into a weapons chase that could change the course of history. Suddenly, their ordinary lives become extraordinarily complicated.
Second book in the Time Series was just as entertaining. This time they go back to the 1700's and I found the history of that time fascinating. The adaptation of the time travelers is very entertaining. As with the first book we saw how quickly Robert adjusted to modern day life, we now see Kitty, living in the 1700's and with Robert's guidance, she is able to act, dress and speak as if she were a woman of the era. Something I never considered when considering time travel. It was a fast easy read that kept me flipping the pages faster and faster to get to the end, but not wanting it to finish.
I enjoyed this book. After Kathleen and Robert fell through the portal and landed back in Robert's time, I thought that Kathleen kind of acted kind of stupidly with her attitude. I thought she was pretty flippant toward Robert at times. I also thought it was unrealistic that she learned how to behave as a woman would in the 18th century in super fast time. Other than this annoyance, I liked the book. I thought the characters were likable and believable. I especially like Robert and sometimes think that he is too good for Kathleen.
Just started this sequel to Out of Time, which I loved - I’m once again immediately engrossed in it, yet am also annoyed at the characters (& thus the author) for their rather incredible blasé-ness about what happens to them so suddenly and early on in the book. Where’s the panic that would seem to be a rather more natural reaction? Especially given what happened in book 1, their certainty about being able to (eventually) exit their situation surprised me.
I especially loved the new character of Susannah, and never guessed her secret.
HOWEVER! The plot grabbed me, as it did in book 1, and once again had many twists and turns and very surprising developments. I was so gripped toward the end that it was keeping me up much too late to read more. It also left plenty of openings for further sequels -- and I'm about to download the next one.
I liked Out of Time when I read it, so I decided to continue on with the sequel, In the Nick. The plot of the second book of the Time Series centers on main characters Robert and Kathy Upton, who travel back in time to chase a fellow (!) time traveller who apparently, is up to no good. Although I enjoyed some of the new characters introduced, the overall plot seemed weak and rather unnecessary. It almost felt like the author had a hard time figuring out a plausible scenario for sending the couple back to the 1700s, but she reeeeally wanted them to go there. As I read, I wanted to feel as though Robert and Kathy had NO CHOICE but to go back in time or that falling through the time portal was accidental again - like it was in the first book of the series. In reality it felt like they made a choice and just decided to take an adventure based on some very sketchy "what if's."
The payoff after reading the climax wasn't worth it for me. I wasn't even excited; it was like, "Meh." I honestly just wanted to finish the book and see how it ended because I already felt so invested. :/
All in all I gave this book 3 stars because it did entertain me in some parts, but the plot was lacking and the villain seemed boring. There were also various typos scattered throughout which detracted my attention away from the story. I fear my time with the Uptons has come to a close, and I'm in no hurry to rejoin them.
This is the light, yet suspenseful sequel to the time-travel romance, Out of Time. Once again, Robert and Kathleen return to save family relationships (and history) against the odds. Some of the characters from the first novel transfer over, while we meet some new, eminently likeable people.
As in the first novel, Ms. Truscott blends exquisite historic detail with modern technology and suspense. As a lifelong history buff, I thoroughly enjoy the lesser-known Revolutionary War trivia interwoven throughout the plot. In truth, I have rarely seen such specifics in a light romance.
I recommend this book to any romantic suspense fans that also enjoy reading about the past. It’s a cute, feel good story that should never end!
Nick of Time was well researched, The historical details of the attitudes, clothing, geography of the area, and military methods are a colonial enthusiasts delight. The continuation of Robert's and Kate's story was well told, and I look forward to the next bank in the series.
Kathleen and Robert, married 3 years, return to the past to find someone who could change the course of history with the weapon he carries. Another exciting and well done time travel that was totally entertaining.
Very nicely done, loved the second book. Enjoyed the historical side, more emotions this time and very visual reading. DeborahTruscotts writing just gets better and better. Looking forward to the next instalment.
I enjoyed the 1st book more and look forward to the 3rd. This 2 nd in the series is a good tale but I got bogged down a bit with the details in the middle. That being said it is a very interesting glimpse at everyday life in revolutionary America
Story is wonderful, but had a glitch that I can do without. About 3/4 way through the story, the language was out of control. No need to take the Lord's name in vain, again. This book could be 5 stars. Do not remember that in the last book.
While I adored the first book in this series, I believe I loved this one almost more! Exceptionally written, using historically accurate events to tell the adventures of Robert and Kathleen Upton. Go read it now!
Great sequel to this awesome time travel series. I loved how they traveled back to Robert's time and how the author wrote about all the history of every day items such as dressing.
Pretty boring. All about bathing, dressing and riding around. A shady reason of why they are staying in his time. No action until the end. Skipped through.
