Because of a chance meeting with members of the Hellion MC, Mel Davis's life was reinvented. One that gave him, his teenaged brother and a much younger sister a new life and hope their world would become better. Taken under the wing of Trey Jackson and Dare Gentry, Mel finds there isn't one area of his life that the Hellions aren't willing to help him overcome, resolve and obtain victory in.

After dumping her daddy-picked fiancé and learning the truth about her father's business dealings, Lulu Palmer made a decision to reinvent herself into the woman she'd always wanted to be. Hiding in Missoula and working at Hellion Construction was exactly what she needed to put her privileged and oh-so-boring former lifestyle to rest. Even if the managers she supported had potty mouths and wanted to interfere in her life way too often.

But when their attraction grows as they get to know one another, Mel and Lulu find reinvention is not as easy as they'd first thought. And not allowing their full truths to be revealed puts one of them in jeopardy as the other discovers that not all parts of the biker way of life is for them.

From the author of Hiding in Plain Sight and The Possibility of Trey comes Book Two in the Hellion MC Series which gives us a glimpse into the world of a Hellion recruit as well as a Hellion employee. And with all the craziness that Trey, Silo, Huff, Bishop, Dare and Brand bring into the lives of those they call their own.

It's about the real person we uncover when we try to reinvent ourselves—whether by choice or by circumstance.

My heart was beating so freaking fast. I could hear the murmurings of the crowd behind the curtain where I was hiding, that separated me from them.
It was time. Time for me to come out and talk with them, those people from Goodreads that had read my books, rated my books and that wanted to know the person behind the words.
I stepped my way carefully out onto the stage, my heartbeat the only sound my ears could hear.
"Hi," I mumbled into the microphone. "My name is Judy and I write as J.A. Hornbuckle."
Damn. My voice sounded as hesitant as I felt.
"Tha-thank you so much for your interest." I was fumbling. But, I'd done this before. The public speaking thingie. And I really hadn't ever been this nervous before. But, geesh, I'd had notes then.
Not now.
Deep breath, my mind instructed.
Okay, that I could do.
"I, ah, I don't know what to…uhm, I'm uncertain what I'm supposed to talk about," I began.
The fact that I couldn't see into the crowd was a problem. Talking to crowds is supposed to be like talking to other people. But I couldn't actually SEE the other people.
Crap.
Just start at the beginning.
"I started writing because of a migraine," I started, my voice reedy and thin even in the amplification of the microphone. "I'd read three crap books in a row and thought I could do better."
I cleared my throat which I hadn't realized beforehand would be captured by the speakers.
"Sorry," I mumbled and tried again.
"I read three books that convinced me that I could write better. I'm an avid reader. A voracious reader that consumed four to six fiction books a week. Three books, three crap books, meant that I had wasted fifty percent of my reading time. And I knew that I could do better, could write better."
The noise in the large room lessened as I spoke and I gained courage from that silence.
"As I laid on the floor of my walk-in closet because it, of all the rooms in my apartment, had no noise, no light, and with my frozen pack of corn on my head, thought of the book I might write."
I remembered that time of pain. Of hurting so bad that my stomach would roil, where every heartbeat was torture and I couldn't breathe without the air hurting my teeth.
"I started to think about Caitlin and Jake, about what was to become 'Pole Dance', and eventually I found that I could shove that pain to one side as I planned. I learned to stash a steno pad and pen in there with me and use my baby finger to hold the end of the steno pad and write in the dark."
I heard a couple of chuckles which made me bolder.
"I tried to capture the story on my computer in my 'dull roar' times. And, in a word? It was crap. I didn't know what I was doing. So I started to study. Read, absorbed. But you know what I found? Writing is like driving a car. You can read about driving, learning the rules of the road, reading about safety tips and precautions. But until you are actually behind the wheel? Oh, baby. Completely different story."
More laughs this time. My knees were steadier and I felt my voice strengthen.
I needed to finish up.
"My name is Judy. And I'm a new author who is learning by the seat of her yoga pants as she goes. Thank you so much for reading and reviewing my books. You mean a lot to me."
I smiled and waved into the glare that was hiding the group that had come to hear me speak.
Because I've never spoken so much and with such honesty from my heart at one time.

Trigger Warning: The H has sex with other women after he was sex with the h.

Mel was a character from the bk In Plain Sight who’s indebted to the Hellion’s MC club for giving him a chance at a future when he was on the wrong side of that bks drama. Mel’s acting as a parent to his 15 yr old brother and 10 yr old sister. Oh and Mel’s a virgin. He’s a bit leery of this MC business and not sure if he wants his family subjected to the Hellion’s but they’ve provided him with food,a house, a job and babysitting his 10 yr old sister while he’s working. Mel starts a courtship with the Hellion’s receptionist, Lulu. Lulu’s not a part of the Hellion’s; she’s on the run from her scum bag dad and ex-finance. There’s some humor here as Lulu won’t give the other MC members the time of day but she’s enamored with Mel. Mel and Lulu have been lusting after each other for a while and once Mel gets up the nerve, he finally asks her out. After a few dates they have sex and Mel’s a virgin no more. In fact he’s in awe of Lulu. The next night he’s inducted into the club as a recruit and given two of the “Honeys” (think ho’s) as a welcome gift and he participates although reluctantly as he’s still hesitant aabout the MC and still thinking of Lulu. But he goes with the flow.

Lulu finds out and is unhappy as she thought they were starting a relationship. No relationship was discussed nor were next day phone calls or future dates. But the reader is given the impression that’s what will happen. Next thing you know, Mel has been called upon to go with the MC group out of town to attend some Hellion business (think shake down) and once again accepts one of that club’s ho’s offer of a bj while her male partner watches and encourages. (Ick!) After this, the next time Mel is offered sex on another out of town trip he’s declines. He’s still having thoughts of LuLu and misses her. What’s kind of funny is some of these women offer pointers on his technique.

There’s MC drama, Lulu’s family drama and Mel’s family drama. Another thing that was ick factor was while babysitting little innocent girlie, girl Julie, the Honey’s nickname her (sort of like a mascot). They call her “Lil Taste” as in a little taste of Honey after them. Yea, major ick! Mel’s not too keen on this either. He wants someone like Lulu as a role model.

This bk is titled Reinventing Mel and that’s what happens here. Mel’s character goes through several transitions until he finds his place which ultimately is with the MC’s and with Lulu and a happily ever after. I like this author, I enjoyed some of the characters from past bks and parts of this story but it was a bit grittier than I care for, so I’m going with 3 stars on this one.

So I an new to this author and I was super excited to discover her, especially after reading Trey's book because it was phenomenal. I read it in one sitting and could not put it down.

To say I was severely pissed off with this book would be the freaking understatement of the century. Such a epic disappointment after such a great start.

******SPOLIER ALERT*******

It started out okay and I even liked the hero of the story Mel. He was charming, sweet and I was excited to read his story and his path into MC life. The heroine was likable too and I really thought this is it....another great read...WRONG WRONG WRONG!!!!!

Why you ask was it so bad? I will tell you why the hero of the story does not only cheat with one whore, but with 3. I mean seriously dude that is so not cool. He even does it the day after he sleeps and gives his virginity to the heroine. I mean WTF??

And then the doormat of a heroine, simply forgives him after he apologises. I mean come on lady, where the hell is your frigging dignity? After that I can honestly say I lost all respect for both characters and therefore interest in the rest of the book. I had to skim to get through the rest as I was just too spitting mad to continue.

Yeah yeah they might not have established they were in a relationship, but come on they were headed there and we all knew it, including the doormat heroine, and the cheating scum hero.

Now my problem lies in whether to one click the next book and read it because I do not wanna waste my money and read about another cheating asshole.....what to do, what to do...

So it all wrap up nice but I just can't see how she forgave him, I mean really, the day after they are together he sleeps with 2 club whores. Then some chick in the middle of the club on the road while her old man watches??? Just IDK , she forgave him a lot and I felt her hurt. But whatever, HEA of course right?
She deserved better.

I was upset about his attitude to have sex with the heroin in a day and the next day having sex with two sluts from the Club. I found disgusting.

When Mel Davis was held accountable by his actions, he never expected to be a recruit for the Hellion MC. Providing for his younger brother and sister, Mel will do what he needs to keep their lives on the straight in narrow. He never expected to meet Lucille "Lulu Palmer". Everything about Lulu is intriguing Mel, from the pink hair, to the fifties pinup looks, he wants her but Mel is not as versed with women as he is with using his fists and takes a few wrong paths before getting it right.

Lulu escaped from her controlling fathers grasp. Lulu reinvented herself to the woman she knows was always within her. The men of Hellion Construction have let her know in more ways than one they are interested, but she knows their reputation as a bikers and is not one for a quick roll in the hay. Meeting Mel though has Lulu lusting after the soft natured man, who has a slight dangerous side. When danger crosses both of their paths, Lulu will have to put her trust in the man who is quickly stealing her heart.

After reading the first two books I was excited to see what would happen with Mel, he is first seen in Hiding in Plain Sight. I have to say I was a bit surprised about Mel, he makes a few blunders that I wasn't sure I would be able to get past, I did though. Definitely a lot of Dare in this book which I am anxiously waiting to read his story. Lulu is a hoot, she is sassy and I liked her whole retro vibe. This is quite a fun series if you have not picked it up yet, unexpected and has a unexpected twists.

humm... it was good. I really want to give it 4 stars but some part's just rubbed me the wrong way. Yes I get the whole initiation into the MC life and what not I just didn't like the initiation and bed jumping thing. And that might have been my biggest issue with this book. I liked just about everything else, LOVED Lulu's wardrobe and house decor! There was some nice action and a good kidnapping twist thrown in there as well. But the bed hopping... I wouldn't have minded so much if it had happened before Lulu... I sure as hell wouldn't have let him off as easy as she had.

Sorry just got kinda stuck on that issue. So 3.5 stars from me, I'm looking forward to reading 'The Possibility of Trey'

After reading The Possibility of Trey, I immediately clicked this one. I don't usually read young adult romances but I'm glad I read this one. The author writes such a good love story I forget I'm reading about such young people and not people close to my own age (which I won't share)... Mel is a 23 year old virgin and how the hell can that happen when he is so hot? Lucille is 25 years old and running from bad past experiences. There's drama, angst and a whole lot of big alpha, protective men from the Hellions MC to provide the sparks. I also don't usually like to read about virgin male H's but Jesus did Ms. Hornbuckle write that one good. I had to love Lucille's patience with Mel when she recognizes his virgin status but even being a virgin he was hot, hot, hot. This will definitely be a re-read for me at some point.

I'm developing a serious thing for bikers here, and this is my only MC series so far XD

Like the previous book I liked this one too, even both the hero and heroine here were different from the one's in the previous book, they were still amazing.

Lulu was cute in a way iconic and unique, because since she left her family, and gained her independence, she pushed to gain her true self. I liked how she was with Mel but I felt sorry for her most of the time, first because of Mel then because of her dad. she was a strong heroine, but her strength was of a different kind and look from Dallas, the heroine of the previous book, Lulu's strength was in a way hidden behind the feminine looks and the fluffy petticoats, but it was all the same, strength of both mind and heart.

At first I instantly fell in love with Mel, he was just the perfect package of a guy cute, gentlemanly, hot, kind etc ... But he produced one problem, he went from his one night with Lulu as the virgin boy, to the very next day experiencing a threesome and later an exhibitionist show of a sort. I hated him for that, how could her be this callous, and the very next day it felt like a slap to lulu's face and pride as a woman. But at least he tried and did redeem himself to her good graces. I liked the parts were he had connected with his brother at last, their short one word or sentence conversations that conveyed lots of emotions.

My most favorite thing here wasn't the connection between the main couple, but their relationship with the hellion, especially in Lulu's case, the council members of the hellions were obvious in showing how much they cared about their little receptionist, in the way they took care of all her problems, in the way they stood behind her when she faced her ex, in the way they tried to save her from her ex, in the way they saved her from her kidnappers, and finally in the way they crowded her hospital room. I loved how when she thanked them they were all shy and uncomfortable with her appreciation, and how the author painted the picture that they had lumps in their throats without actually saying the words was a good touch that shows a great writer.

Overall, *thumbs up* I just loved these books and can't wait for the next

SPOILER WARNING!!!!!!!!

*Sigh....

I really wanted to give this book more stars. But there was a huge issue I had with it. What was it you ask? Virgin Hero

Now, this isn't always bad, I'm guessing....this is my first go round with it. But, let's just say he definitely wasn't a virgin by the end.

Our hero Mel is new in town, much like our heroine, Lulu. I loved the heroine. She was perfect for Mel...and the MC. She'd come a long way to be her own person. Mel's the same. He came from a not so great place...then from being bad...to being "justifiably" bad in that Bad Boy "I'm a Biker Now" kind of way.

I loved the development of their relationship. Then, when we found out the hero was a virgin, it made it that much sweeter.

Then .
All while the heroine was swooning over him. Was the relationship established? Not really, but it was well on it's way in my opinion. And for a hero that supposed to be Alpha and smart, he made some pretty dumb decisions in my book.
But whatever, that was the only part that left a bad taste in my mouth.
Other than that, this book was crazy hot and had a great story line. The characters and story where all just as interesting and I can't wait for more in this series.
I totally recommend this book to anyone that doesn't have strong triggers concerning the Alpha's promiscuity. This is a heavy trigger for me, but I still enjoyed the book for the most part. The Alpha is pretty good at groveling IMO.

It's nice to know Mel is an a** man, "it was fuller than he'd imagined, her lace-covered butt cheeks overflowing his hands as he gripped and caressed. Better, so effing very much better than he'd anticipated. Damn but he loved her a**." There were some things Mel did that I didn't like and I really almost cried that's how much I didn't like it, but I got over it because our Lulu got over it. If there is one thing we need to know about Mel it's that the boy is protective of his woman, "Mel hadn't even thought before he started yelling and yanking at the brothers that stood between him and his Lu. No mothereffer was ever gonna threaten his girl and live to talk about it!" He's considerate when he wakes his woman up from sleep, "yeah, precious. Sorry to wake you but you're hogging all the pillows," he breathed, his mouth right next to my ear as his strong arm looped around my waist. "But if it gets me close to you like this, darlin', I'm willing to share yours." Not in love with this book as I was with the first, but still a good read.

This one was difficult for me to review. I love all things JA Hornbuckle, except this one. I really liked Lulu, and I liked Mel. The rest of it was just not quite as good as the other books Hornbuckle has written. The dialogue wasn't as witty or smooth; the story didn't develop as smoothly either. Mel's relationship with the MC was confusing and wasn't resolved as well as I'd have liked, and the MC guys were not as loveable as they were in Trey's story. The whole story seemed awkward to me, and I struggled to really get into it. I have high hopes for her next book because I really want another series to fall in love with.

An ok read

I liked the concept of the book but found myself scheming through certain parts. I don't want to read about what Mel is doing in detail it bored me silly. Now (spoiler) him cheating or hooking up was important but not him beating up some dudes that owed them money and a bunch of details we as readers don't freaking care about. Other than that the relationship part was good.Needed more of that detail and less about riding on the road and sleeping in motels don't care..

I Love J.A. Hornbuckle, having just found her, LOL. I read The Possibility of Trey and was hooked, I didnt realize That Hiding in Plain Sight was first anywho. I am sooo freaking mad at Mel. It was hard to give this 4 stars but lets face it, I still had to know what happened, I didnt put it down and not pick it back up. I HAD to know how this ended, and was...... well lets say happy with how it ended, not giving away any spoilers.

I was a little concerned when I started reading this as the H was younger, was new to the MC lifestyle, had to learn how to ride a motorcycle and despite being pretty hot guy wasn't experienced. However, Mel ended up being a hot alpha, pretty fast learner. Lulu was pretty awesome. Got to see characters from the previous books. Thoroughly enjoyable read.

I usually like JA Hornbuckle's books but this one did not do it for me. Everything just seemed so stilted and it felt like the story had already been told in her other MC books. I loved LuLu and it's a shame she didn't have a better story.

Firstly can someone please edit the bloody book and get the grammar right! I cant tell you how annoying it is to read 'and an couple of hours of my time'. Ffs

The rule is real easy if the word following starts with a vowel its 'an' as in an apple. If it's a consonant its ' a couple of hours'

How the fuck do you get this wrong and almost every other page!..!!

Again enjoyable except for a couple of points. How lulu let mel off for basically fucking two women right after her, then she has to hear the honeys talk about it and she doesn't go ballistic, she forgives him just like that. Total shit.

It made the book like warm. Not sure I want to spend any more money on this series!

Lulu is the new receptionist for Hellion Construction and all the guys are lusting after her flirty skirts and smooth manners. But none of them turn her head til Mel, the new guy. Both Lulu and Mel have secrets from their past but both want to start new lives in the small out of the way town of Missoula Montana. Mel's pretty young and inexperienced with dating as he has been taking care of his younger siblings since the death of their parents. There's some history there from 'Hiding in Plain Sight' which I have yet to read, but not real spoilers. Just enough info to make me want to read that one next. So anyways, his attraction for Lulu is pretty overwhelming But the timing of their getting together was bad as it was just before he gets patched into the MC and introduced to the 'honeys' who hang around the club. Being a 23 yr old man who isn't used to drinking... well he wasn't thinking with his big head or his heart for that matter. Even though him and Lulu had only been on a couple dates and not talked about their relationship, well we girls know that that is a no-no and also pretty icky. Mel being a great guy and still enamoured and maybe even half in love with Lulu already, soon learns the difference between meaningless sex and sex with someone you care about. Lulu is not a doormat and she's strong, but not a kick ass woman either. So when trouble from her past comes calling, she needs rescuing and Mel is just the man for the job. I loved these stories as they are a bit more realistic than some. There are little details that let you know the author researches everything and it really adds to the tale. As with the last book, the side characters are interesting and supportive to the story without taking up too much of the stage. The kids are believable and the action is good but not drawn out. Not quite as romantic as Trey's book, it was still as sweet and satisfying ending. And best of all, it made me smile with the humour from time to time. It was just a great book! J.A. Hornbuckle is definitely one of my go to authors now.

I was honestly a bit surprised. I've read a few biker series over the last year (haha, I should say started and never finished) and I don't think in that time I've read one that was about a recruit. I honestly expected that to be a typo - but no, Mel is a recruit. It was nice to see this world from a different angle, though I doubt everyone was as nice as they're making it seem.

Lulu is the kind of chick you just have to admire. They call it "Rockabilly" with her black and pink hair and retro dresses. And admire her not because you necessarily like that style, but because she's ballsy enough to go for it. I wish I had that quality. And Mel is family man through and through - something to be admired.

Just when you think this book is merely full of misunderstandings and that is the biggest thing you're going to get plot-wise, you get thrown for a loop. Something kinda big did end up happening. Right as I was going to bed actually - and then I had to stay up to make sure everything was alright. And I completely dug that there was a set up to explain what's going to happen in a future book. Tying everything together. Just lovely.

J.A. Hornbuckle, you nailed your different take on an MC.

Angsty book. I had to persevere through at points. It says a lot about this author and her writing that I did, it's not something I do if I don't like how a story is going. There are way too many books on my to read list to waste time on something I'm not enjoying. I am so glad I did. I hate OW stuff in general but in this case I understand it needed to happen to give his character experience and knowledge. The other women scenes actually didn't bother me so much and I credit the author for doing them right.
I am dying to read Silo's book next but I don't want to miss any side stories I might need to understand what's happening. So on to Dare's.

Reinventing Mel was nicely written but didn't hold my attention. Felt the main focal point was more on sex than on an actual storyline.
