I really like the overall message in this book, which is finding love and overcoming scary and traumatic experiences. “Broken” can be fixed. Healing is good, and I like these two together – a lot in fact. I liked their banter, their tenderness, and how they care for her pets.
That being said, there’s also a lot wrong with this book. I wasn’t a fan of the writing style, particularly pertaining to POV. The book in its entirety is in dire need of editing. While I like the characters, they could be a little more polished – and I don’t mean fixing “flaws” as those make them human. I mean to make it so their dialog isn’t so choppy sometimes, their mood swings don’t induce whiplash, and the spots where they appear to read each other’s minds are ironed out. The plot is confusing and somewhat flimsy, though on occasion brutal for our couple.
Overall, while sweet, the book just comes off as over the top unrealistic.
Broken is a strangely sweet romance that certainly pulls at your emotions. It’s worth checking out.
