A very short novella, not worth the price.
Many things I didn’t like- and the hero’s behavior to the heroine wasn’t one of them, unlike many readers.
- the heroine went partying with her friends and actually flirted and kissed ow while the hero, a SEAL, was risking his life on a mission. So he had all the reasons to be hurt, offended and awful to her. He was always truthful and faithful even if he was far from home and the only one thing he wanted from her was she behaved truthfully to him. Yes, when he found out she kissed om he threw her out of their house and told her awful things but lets be honest, if he had been the cheater we would have expected that she threw him out so… no double standard for me, she was guilty and deserved all his scorn. And after all, since the book is also written from his pov, we know he loved her, wanted to take her back and forgive her but was unbelievably hurt. Isn’t it reasonable? Imo yes, it is.
So maybe his behavior was the only thing I liked and understood of all the book.
Then I didn’t like many other things.
- the length. Too short and cut, but actually there’s only a big misunderstanding that is solved in not so much time.
- half of this very brief novella was sex. After the misunderstanding is cleared all the rest was sex. Meh.
- his language was coarse, rude and swearing. More fit to a 17 old rapper with anger management issues than to a 34 yo navy SEAL. Not for me. When his son is born he refers to the baby as “the little fuck”, as an endearment. I don’t know if the author thought that since he’s a man he must think on those kind of … terms.
The story could have been good, a wife who kisses om in front of other people in the town bar, then she admits all and after some days she tells the hero she’s pregnant.
I don’t want to reveal too much but she was a victim and the hero too was a victim, but I really understood his reaction.
But something was not right, maybe the writing style, maybe the too many missing things, I know I really wanted it to end.
And all that swearing. It’s not a ya book.
I haven’t really appreciate the reading, it was too short, too focused on sex and too little on the characters’ personality and marriage.
Not for me.
