No Stone Eliyanah’s Story is the 11th book in the Ordinary Women of the Bible fiction series.
Eliyanah is content with her simple life, serving the poor and outcast in the tiny village of Bethany. She dreams of marrying the love of her life, Eleazar. But her dreams are shattered when her stepfather betroths her to a wealthy spice merchant from Jerusalem. Away from her childhood home, Eliyanah finds herself lonely and aimless—her life’s sole purpose now is to bear a son and an heir for her neglectful and abusive husband.
In her despair, Eliyanah turns to the arms of another man, even though she knows the penalty for such a sin should she be caught. When the inevitable happens, and she is dragged—shamed and humiliated—before the enraged Pharisees, a Savior steps in. In place of judgment, He offers mercy. In lieu of guilt’s wages, He offers grace. How can she ever repay such love?
Carole Towriss and her husband live just north of Washington, DC. In between making tacos and telling her four children to pick up their shoes for the third time, she writes, watches chick flicks, and waits for summertime to return to the beach.
A Beautifully Written reminder of God's Mercy and Grace!
Part of Guide post's Ordinary Women of the Bible series, No Stone Cast: Eliyanah's Story imagines a plausible background tale for the adulterous woman Jesus forgives in John 8. The characters are well-developed; the details of the setting reflect extensive research; and the story itself is deeply compelling, easily drawing me in from the start. This is the first book I have read by Carole Towriss, and I look forward to reading more by this talented author. I recommend it to anyone with an interest in historical fiction and Biblical times.
The life of the woman caught in adultery was never really imagined by me. I figured it was a trap since the man was not presented as well. However, I never considered that he may have been non-Jewish. I also never knew that the son of those who set the trap were guilty of that soon and would be required to confess to their part in her trap and thereby guilty to receive the same judgment and death as her. Big eye opener.
The story is well written and full of emotions. I thoroughly enjoyed this book.
A beautiful story of Christ’s unending forgiveness. Yana’s struggle from the beginning of her marriage to the end broke my heart. However, the moment that Jesus told her to still her heart and listen for God to speak to her was the moment her heart changed and knew God loved her no matter what. A beautiful telling of the woman condemned by the spiritual leaders, but forgiven by the One who could condemn her.
Another beautiful biblical fiction book by Carole Towriss. Living all her life under the Law of Moses, Yana, had a hard time forgiving herself because she was not falsely accused. It had to be hard to learn the new way of Grace under Jesus. I would imagine back in those times everyone would have had the same reaction. Forgiving yourself after sinning and repenting is still one of the hardest things to do for yourself even today, but it’s necessary to keep going.
A wonderful retelling of the woman caught in adultery. I was so drawn to Eliyanah, her character and goodness shone through. She was relatable. The story was very well written. I can't wait to read the rest of the books in this series!
