I'm teaching my son about Henry VIII and the Tudors in preparation for a visit to Hampton Court Palace. This is an excellent book that really got him interested in learning more about Henry VIII. The illustrations are excellent and it is written in a humorous way that kept his attention. After only reading it a couple of times he can reel off a few facts about how many wives he had, what their names were and who died, who survived and who had their head chopped off *gulp*. We also have the Elizabeth I and Shakespeare books to read in this series. They don't seem to be printing this series anymore "Brilliant Brits" so we had to get our second hand from ebay.

This is another fun short biography for kids by Richard Brassey, this time about the life of King Henry VIII. He lived from 28th June 1491 to the 28th January 1547.
The book is created in a comic book style with colourful pictures and funny captions. There are text sections with information about one of the most famous Kings in history. There are only 24 pages but it contains so many interesting and funny facts set out in a child-friendly way.
Like other books in the series, the book also teaches you a lot about what life was like in England during the Tudor times (22 August 1485 – 24 March 1603).
I think they are a quick and easy way to learn about people from history. They teach you the facts but are an entertaining way to learn too.

This fun, cartoonish, presentation illuminates the gifts and debauchery of King Henry VIII while delivering excellent historical background for elementary students.

It's true, the book is geared toward elementary students, but this one-sitting presentation can be enjoyed by young and old alike who would like a brief overview of this important time in English history, including the succession after Henry's death.

While we cannot really be sure of someone's ultimate destination (because it is between them and God), King Henry VIII is an excellent example of a Mark 8:36 "For what does it profit a man to gain the whole world and forfeit his soul?"
