"For the most part, the stuff in this book will not be advertised on billboards to draw you off the highway exits. This is a book for people who like the quirky, the offbeat, and the unusual. If you have absolutely no interest in how to astro-turf your car or where to find the John Wayne Museum, or a good frog race, you might want to buy one of those other books. . ." borrowed Indiana Curiosities: Quirky Characters, Roadside Oddities, and Other Offbeat Stuff from my in-law's bookshelf; a quick read, I finished it in a few hours.
As you can tell from the subtitle, this is a guidebook to various unique attractions and individuals found around Indiana. Grouped into 5 geographical sections (Greater Indianapolis, Northeast, Northwest, Southeast and Southwest), Wolfsie provides amusing (if at times corny) writeups for each person, place or thing. He also provides contact info, if applicable, and photos (tho there could have been more). A location index is at the end of the book.
My current community is represented with two articles, and my hometown with one. I've been to several of the places he mentioned, and am looking forward to visiting more, possibly this summer. Recommended to fans of Roadside America who might like to visit the more unusual elements of the Hoosier state.
Wolfsie's lighthearted, witty style is perfect for this topic

This book has provided many helpful ideas for when I am hosting visitors or may be looking for something new to do or see in Indiana, myself. Unfortunately, not all attractions are open to the public, in general, but there are enough that are that I shouldn't run out of ideas any time soon.
