Bawiłam się doskonale! To naprawdę książka idealna dla fanów K-pop Demon Hunters. Szkoda, że jest tak krótka, ale dzięki temu nie brakuje tu akcji. Proszę, niech na rynku pojawia się więcej takich książek. Więcej Korei, więcej mitologii, więcej historii Joseon!

The overall low ratings on this book seem to stem from translation issues - this is a new translation version as far as I know. However, the writing style might need some getting used to for readers familiar only with English market and its current stylistic preferences. This is a Korean novel, and the writing style has noticeable differences:

1. It utilizes omniscient narration which some people dislike for "head-hopping". It's clear whose thoughts we're in, because they follow that person's actions or dialogue, but there's no fixed pov per section, it rotates between characters.

2. It's peppered, or should I say, well-seasoned, with Korean words. There's a helpful glossary at the end! But if you don't have a great memory for new-to-you terms, you might need to use it extensively. It doesn't infodump or overexplain the world and the culture, it drops you into deep waters straight in. But this way it's more faithful to the original and it doesn't talk down to the reader or handhold excessively.

3. The dialogue feels very "anime", which I assume must be a wider East Asian tradition. Characters talk to themselves out loud, or emphatically exclaim "stop right there!" or "what on earth?" If you've read other East Asian stories, for example light novels or danmei, some of the writing stylistic choices might seem familiar, but if you only have experience with English language novels, the mannerisms of the characters might seem exaggerated, and the narration style confusing.

Overall I'm of the opinion that we should be open minded instead of judging everything by our own familiar standards. The story isn't badly written - it's written differently than the Western readers are used to.

This is classified as adult fantasy, but personally I found it more in-line with YA (if you liked KPOP Demon Hunters, Bleach, Sailor Moon, etc. they're all movies/shows for teenagers but they're still fun and nostalgic for adults).

So with that aside, I enjoyed the story. There are 3 major sub-plots:

- The romance between Bin and Eunho, which follows a second chance, arranged betrothal, childhood friends to lovers, magical amnesia, "I'm too dangerous for you" (from her to him) tropes. Bin made a pact with a supernatural being to save Eunho's life in exchange for his memories of her, so when they meet again, he doesn't remember her - but their interactions are very kind and courteous, I liked that in the sea of bullies-to-lovers or hate-to-love romances.

- The political intrigue of the queen trying to power-grab and her father spreading corruption in the kingdom, while the king tries to make the kingdom more just (and not get assassinated in the process).

- The supernatural plot of one of the queens of Hell trying to get higher up in the Hell hierarchy by overthrowing her rival, which causes turmoil like spirits being unable to pass peacefully into afterlife.

I liked the cute romance, the leads being sensible and respectful even facing big emotions, the rich Korean culture and mythology that wasn't dumbed down for the reader's convenience, the vivid side characters, and the grand adventure plot.

I would recommend it to fans of East Asian media like K-dramas, manhwa, light novels, etc. It has a similar vibe. Very refreshing to see translated novels appearing on the English market, which tends to be fairly insular and only export not import.

Bei diesem Buch entführt uns die Autorin an einen interessanten Handlungsort und erzählt die Geschichte von Lady Bin Seomoon, die eine Seelenjägerin ist. Ein bisschen hat die Geschichte etwas von einem historischen koreanischen Roman, aber alt mit Fantasy-Elementen.

Ich hatte am Anfang ein paar Probleme mit dem Stil der Autorin, der ist nämlich sehr sprunghaft. Sie wechselt mitten im Absatz die Erzählperspektive, was ich persönlich normalerweise nicht besonders mag. Ich habe deshalb etwas gebraucht, um in die Geschichte rein zu kommen.

Anfangs ist sehr Fantasy-Anteil eher gering, es geht vor allem um Geister. Später kommen dann noch andere Elemente dazu. Die Tropes arrangierte Heirat und verlorene Erinnerungen fand ich persönlich sehr gut umgesetzt. Die Geschichte ist herzerwärmend, aber auch ein bisschen melancholisch.

Mir hat dieser Einzelband dann letzendlich richtig gut gefallen. Wenn die Autorin die Ich-Perspektive gewählt hätte, wäre es vermutlich ein Highlight geworden. Ich vergebe 4 von 5 Sterne.

Normalerweise bin ich recht nachsichtig, wenn es um Fantasy-Einzelbände geht, da man eine Fantasywelt und -geschichte nicht unbedingt in einem einzigen Band so tief ausbauen kann. Aber hier hat es bereits beim Schreibstil gehakt. Er kam mir sehr klinisch und distanziert vor, zudem auch noch chaotisch und ohne spürbare Struktur. Das hat sich auch in der Geschichte widergespiegelt. Es gab keinen genauen Handlungsstrang, dem man folgen konnte, sondern viele abstehende Fäden, die sich irgendwie zu einer Geschichte zusammenzwängen wollten. Viele Handlungen tauchten willkürlich auf und kamen mir vor wie an den Haaren herbeigezogen.

Das Tempo der Geschichte war überaus rasant. Eigentlich etwas Gutes, hier aber trug dies einfach zum Chaos bei.

Für mich kein Buch, welches ich weiterempfehlen kann. Schon allein, da es in diesem Bereich (koreanische Fantasy/Romantasy) bessere Konkurrenz gibt.

I went into this book with great expectations and although I enjoyed the plot, i wish it also gave me a bit more.
In this story Bin is a byeoksa in a world where women cannot be. One day she meets Eun-ho and she catches his attention, while working together however both of their pasts start unravelling. Will Bin’s secret identity hold up? And will Eun-ho find out what really happened to him?

As a lover of k-dramas I was really looking forward to reading this and I did love the setting, the mythology and the plot. However I had some massive issues with the pacing. The super long chapters I think were a big element of that, because sometimes it felt like they brushed off important scenes, like the one where we find out Eun-ho’s past. The stakes also didn’t feel super high except for the final battle for me and in the very beginning. Also I didn’t really felt connected to the characters nor their romance, so I’m a bit underwhelmed overall.

First of all I need to address the elephant in the room which is that this book is either horribly written, or translated, or both.
So, for the translation into German, there are loads of sentences that don't make any sense and are grammatically incorrect. The sentences sometimes only consist of the secondary/passive clause. Apart from that, the line editing has gone totally wrong. The ghosts can speak and their voices are shown in four! different formats. How could this ever go into print that way?
Alas I cannot say if this is only in the translated book or in the source material. Speaking of which, where has been the editing to the story? No character arc or plot in sight. It was super difficult to read because the setting is sometimes switched in the same paragraph or sentence. Most of the times, it is super hard to understand who the talker is. Also, it has some super weird things like "this and that were really hard to describe", e.g. - which experienced author would write such things? It completely feels like a comic-turned-into-book, and would have been better off left like that.

I also want to address the premise of the book. The description promises "heartbreaking romance" and a "ghost hunt full of suspense". Really, I did see neither in this book.
Where exactly is the reader supposed to feel the romance, if you only have to take the couple's love at face value? The author just says that they are in love because they have been engaged since forever and supposedly have a shared past. But nothing really is going on (as with the rest of the book), and instead of an awe for the couple, all I felt was frustration.
Also, with the ghost hunts, those were not suspenseful at all. There were no stakes to be taken, because the heroine simply always succeeded. Even when things went bad, she quickly rose out of the struggle as an even bigger winner. Less than boring. Apart from that, the book promises to have some agency in the feminist department because the heroine wears a man's clothes to go undiscovered. But this is not picked up or resolved further. There is no agency at all.

All in all, you see, this book has no character development as all the characters (literally) end the book exactly as they have started it. And I still search for the plot somewhere in the Styx.

Ich bin hin und her gerissen. Wahrscheinlich lande ich bei 3.5 Sternen.

Die Erzählweise hat mich regelmäßig verwirrt, es handelt sich um einen auktorialen Erzähler, der aber Abschnittsweise auf einen bestimmten Charakter fokussiert ist. Dieser Fokus wechselt häufig, teilweise wird die nicht mit einem Abschnitt angekündigt, sodass ich regelmäßig raus gekommen bin.

Eine andere Sache, die mir zu Beginn etwas übel aufgestoßen ist, was aber sehr subjektiv ist:
Ich pausiere ungerne im Kapitel sondern lieber am Ende eines. Dieses Buch mit knapp 400 Seiten hat nur 5 Kapitel. Und innerhalb dieser Kapitel gibt es, durch das oben angesprochene Problem, weniger Absätze als mir lieb wären.

Inhaltlich fand ich die Geschichte hingegen spannend, man könnte die einzelnen Kapitel als eigene Kurzgeschichten sehen, die aber alle zu dem finalen fünften Kapitel führen. Ich glaube aber, man könnte sie auch beim zweiten Durchgang potentiell auch unabhängig voneinander lesen.

Beim Ende bin ich wieder zwiegespalten.
Ich glaube, ich hätte das Ende, wie es zuvor war, also dass sie ihr Dasein als Königin der Unterwelt annimmt und er ohne Erinnerungen an sie, meinetwegen aber mit einem besonderen Interesse oder tieferen Verständnis für Yeomna, sein Leben lebt.
Entsprechend weiß ich nicht, was ich von der „sie taucht dann doch hinter ihn auf und es endet“ Ende halten soll. Auch wenn die andere Version natürlich bittersüß gewesen wäre, hätte die Geschichte für mich mehr nachgewirkt, beziehungsweise wäre sie für mich glaubwürdiger gewesen, was den zuvor abgehandelte Plotpunkt des Weltrettens angeht. So hätte man nochmal vor Augen geführt bekommen, dass es etwas zu verlieren gibt. Ich muss das Ende mal sacken lassen und mich auch nochmal in die eventuell zugrundeliegende Folklore einlesen, nicht dass ich der Autorin unrecht tue und sie sich nur an die Vorlage gehalten hat. /

Może zacznę od tego co mnie jako pierwsze zirytowało w tej książce już na pierwszych stronach. Czy ktoś mi powie czemu bohaterowie mówią choćby auć? Ich najszczersza reakcja na praktycznie wszystko (najczęściej chyba Bin) to "Ach." Jak mnie to wkurzało.

Albo czemu postacie randomowo wypowiadały myśli na głos?!
Czasem normalnie była myśl a potem mowią inną na głos co totalnie nie ma dla mnie sensu gdy postać przyznaje się do jakiegoś czynu w momencie gdy inna postać prawdopodobnie wyszła bo równie dobrze mogła nie wyjść XD. To było tak irytujące po prostu.

Właśnie same dialogi były irytujące. Szczególnie w 1 rozdziale i nie tak rzadko w innych dialogi między Eunho a Bin były jak miedzy 8-letnimi dziećmi. Nie wiem, konstrukcja ich wypowiedzi brzmiały przynajmniej jakby była to wymiana zdań miedzy dziećmi a przynajmniej ja sobie tak wyobrażałam bo nie potrafiłam sobie wyobrazić osoby starszej mówiącej to. W sytuacji gdy te dialogi nie przypominały dziecięcych to były strasznie cringe'owe. I cały czas mówię o Eunho i Bin. Tego momentami nie dało się czytać XD.

Tak w ogóle to moja kopia miała dużo błędów typu, że nie było ostatniej literki w słowie. Ale błędy da sie przeżyć szczególnie gdy sama nie szczególnie umiem pisać gdyby nie jeden błąd xD.
"[...]dlatego nie naciskałaś i nie protestowałeś [...]"
I to jest chyba najlepszy tego przykład bo taki błąd i guess pojawiał sie chyba częsciej niż zgubienie literki. No chyba, że ja czegoś nie rozumiem. Ale jednak jeśli cały czas mówimy do jednej postaci to czemu w jednym zdaniu jest ona i on na raz? Ja się zastanawiałam jakiej płci w końcu jest postać bo na jednej stronie mówiono o kobiecie a na drugiej o mężczyźnie ale dalej to było to samo imię i postać?

I to nie jest tak, że mam problem tylko z sposobem napisania tego ale z bohaterami też, a najwięcej to już w ogóle z Bin.
Jak ja jej nie lubiłam. Na początku wydawała się trochę tsundere
oraz momentami pick me (ale to tylko moja opinia). Nie umiem wyrazić słowami co dokładnie w niej nie lubie. Ale zauważyłam taką ciekawą rzecz, że gdy Bin pojawiała się w książce zauważająco więcej karteczek zaznaczałam (co jest negatywne bo zaznaczam tylko te nielogiczne, żenujce itp).
Mam wrażenie, że gdyby Bin nie była łowczynią demonów i nie widziałaby i słyszała to co widzi i słyszy to byłaby najbardziej irytującą postacią o jakiej czytałam. Nawet nie potrafię jej traktować serio. Ani razu w książce nie było pokazane nam, że Bin coś rzeczywiście umie XD. Każda "misja" jaką miała albo była ucinana albo kończyła się prawie śmiercią. Czytając początek miałam wrażenie, że Eunho jest bardziej doświadczony niż ona kiedy Bin dosłownie nabrała się, że jakiś demon jest jej bratem. W sumie Paryeo też nie potrafię traktować poważnie w momencie gdy okazuje się, że on i Bin sie kiedyś już spotkali on się zmienia o 180° i nie chce już od niej nic w zamian za uratowanie życia ponadto oddaje jej duszę demona którego zabił. no XD.
Co jest w ogóle ciekawe to to, że Bin wiedziała, że to co on jej powiedział to dokładnie te same zdania które wypowiedział jakieś 5 lat wcześniej. I najlepsze, że tak sie dzieje dużo razy. Przynajmniej z 5 jak nie więcej razy było, że on/ona powiedział/ała to samo co kiedyś tam. JAKIE jest prawdopodobieństwo, że jakieś postacie powiedzą to samo zdanie co kiedyś zdanie w zdanie i druga osoba to zapamiętała i pomyślała, że to było dokładnie to samo i to na taką skale?!

Fabuła czasem nie miała dla mnie sensu. Jakieś nawet najmniejsze rzeczy się w historii nie kleiły. Wiem, że można powiedzieć, że się czepiam ale ja się będę czepiać bo ja lubie jak coś ma sens. I to są rzeczy nawet typu skąd Eunho wziął konia by jechać po Bin która TONEŁA PRZEZ DEMONY bo jak widać ona nie za dużo umie.
Akurat zapomniałam inne nielogiczne rzeczy ale wiem, że było ich nie tak mało.
A co do rzeczy nie logicznych to moje ulubione najgłupsze wykorzystanie postaci ever: to cała na biało wchodzi strona 240 i Eunho który randomowo nagle jednak nie zemdlał tylko po to żeby powiedzieć, ŻE BIN MA RACJE I ŻEBY JINU JEJ POZWOLIŁ ROBIĆ TO CO ONA TAM POWIEDZIAŁA PO CZYM ZNOWU WRÓCIŁ DO POPRZEDNIEGO STANU XD. Ja widząc takie rzeczy to pierwsze co myśle to to, że jestem jakaś autystyczna i sama sobie to wymyśliłam ale no czarno na białym jest doslownie napisane że brat nagle odzyskuje przytomność mówi to i znowu wraca do nie przytomności czego się w ogóle dowiadujemy kilka stron później bo było przerwane ofc.

Btw zapomniałam dodać wcześniej, że nie rozumiem sensu narracji 3 osobowej w tej książce. Bo jeśli Bohaterowie mają co chwile mówić myśli na głos albo była taka sytuacja, że Bin widziała jakąś świątynię dzięki swoim umiejętnością i opisywała ją przez dialog to XD. Co prawda był tam jeszcze wtedy Paryeo i ona to do niego mówiła but still jeśli byłoby inaczej to bym chyba eksplodowała jakie to bez sensu.

Same postacie są uważam, że wręcz głupie prócz jednej. Śmiać mi się chciało jak ta wielka pani piekieł Jeonryun dowiedziała się, że może wykorzystać czyjeś ciało a nie przeżywać całe życie od jakiegoś randoma XD. A co do tej nie głupiej postaci to jest to dla mnie Chaeryeong bardzo fajna postać. Oczywiście nie było doprecyzowane czy umarła czy co się z nią stało. Ale jej motyw zostania królem był całkiem dobry. Była gdzieś jej wypowiedź, że zawsze podlegała ojcu, mężu czy synu i teraz będzie żyć dla siebie (nie jest to cytat bo nie moge teraz tego znaleźć). To, że się wspięła jak po drabinie na tron też było fajne.

cały ten twist (nie wiem jak to określić bo nie powiedzialabym, że moge to nazwać twistem) z ojcem Chaeryeong, że uuu on coś kombinuje bo tu grozi utratą kolejnego syna był trochę losowy (aczkolwiek nie aż tak jak inne rzeczy) bo tego ojca praktycznie nie było w tej książce w ogóle wiem, że się pojawił raz (może 2 bo mogłam zapomnieć, że był gdzieś w tle) więc robienie z niego nagle tak ważnej osoby jest niespodziewanie głupie dla mnie. Ale jeszcze bardziej głupią rzeczą było dowiedzenie się przez Bin, że JEST WŁADCZYNIĄ PIEKIEŁ. Dla mnie to jest tak bez sensu i nie logiczne, że wygląda jakby Autorka nie miała pomysłu na rozwiązanie wątku z Yeomrą. Sam fakt, że Paryeo jej szukał i nie wyczuł, że Bin jest powiązana z Yeomrą w jaki kolwiek sposób podczas gdy wyczuł fragment jej duszy w Eunho jest po prostu śmieszny. Strasznie też nie lubie gdy bohater który dowiaduje się o swojej tożsamości nagle zmienia zachowanie o 180° jakby zawsze o tym wiedział i sie tak zachowywał.

Ten główny wątek fantastyczny był dla mnie najmniej ciekawy (bo go w sumie praktycznie nie było). Za to intrygi w zamku były mega fajne i szkoda, że takie "węszenie" w zamku było tylko raz BO WAŻNIEJSZE BYŁO MALOWANIE CIAŁA EUNHO PRZEZ BIN.
też dużo wątków nie było poruszonych potem, np: rodzice Bin albo jej brat itp. Czuje się jakby jeszcze dużo rzeczy nam nie wytłumaczono w tym świecie dlatego uważam, że te wątki fajnie byłoby jakoś bardziej poruszyć.

Ciekawi mnie czemu Eunho nagle sobie przypomniał o Bin KIEDY MIAŁ JEJ NIE PAMIĘTAĆ no chyba, że Paryeo jest po prostu nie umiejętny. Mimo to, że podobał mi się pomysł tego romansu to wykonanie było tragicznie.

wydaje mi się, że to tyle moich narzekań ale napewno dużo zapomniałam bo karteczek jest dużo a jestem zbyt leniwa by sprawdzać każdą.

jeszcze podsumowując z tyłu książki jest ona reklamowana jako "fantaztyczna opowieść o polowaniu na duchy, która łączy w sobie poruszający romans, widowiskowe walki i wyrazistą bohaterkę!"

z czym się nie zgadzam bo polowania na duchy praktycznie nie było, romans był ale przez tą głupią Bin nie był poruszający a walki jakieś tam były ale napewno nie widowisko i nie opisane na tyle ile bym chciala a o wyrazistej bohaterce nawet nie wspomnę bo dla mnie ona jest tylko wkurwiająca🥲.

edit: co sie stało z tym, że Bin zbierała te 108 dusz czy coś? bo ja już od końcówki 4 rozdziału byłam tak zawiedziona tym, że nie dokońca notowałam co sie dzieje momentamj w książce XD ale wydaje mi sie ze poprostu jak została tą yeomrą to nic już o tym nie było

“La leggenda della cacciatrice di spiriti” di Esther Park ci trasporta nella suggestiva ambientazione della dinastia Joseon, intrecciando elementi della mitologia coreana con un tocco di fantasy. Al centro della storia c’è Bin Seomoon, una giovane cacciatrice di spiriti, che sta raccogliendo perle d’anima per realizzare un desiderio. Il suo obiettivo è uno solo: cambiare il proprio destino, ma la strada è ostacolata da spiriti inquieti e dal passato che torna a bussare alla porta, incarnato dal suo ex fidanzato Euhno, che non ricorda nulla della loro storia.

Uno degli aspetti più affascinanti del romanzo è senza dubbio l’ambientazione. La Park riesce a rendere vivida l’atmosfera della Corea antica, con dettagli storici ben dosati che aggiungono autenticità alla narrazione. Inoltre, la mitologia coreana è integrata con naturalezza, offrendo un buon equilibrio tra mondo reale e sovrannaturale.

Tuttavia, il romanzo ha dei difetti che non ne fanno apprezzare la lettura: uno di questi è il cambio di punto di vista senza preavviso, creando confusione e rendendo difficile immergersi appieno nella storia. Ci metti un po’ a capire da che punto di vista stiamo vedendo gli avvenimenti e questo influisce negativamente sulla fluidità della lettura.

Anche il ritmo narrativo presenta delle sbavature: se all’inizio la componente fantasy è appena accennata, si ha l’impressione che alcuni elementi vengano introdotti un po’ sbrigativamente nella seconda metà del libro, spezzando l’equilibrio. Le scene d’azione legate alla caccia agli spiriti sono ben descritte, ma a volte ho percepito una disconnessione emotiva, come se mancasse quel guizzo capace di far battere il cuore insieme ai protagonisti.

Per quanto riguarda i personaggi, Bin Seomoon sembra una protagonista interessante, forte e determinata, ma alla fine non fa altro che lagnarsi tutto il tempo e non sono riuscita a empatizzare con lei.

Gli altri personaggi, invece, sono caratterizzati in maniera superficiale e sono delineati apposta per i loro ruoli, senza uscirne più di tanto.

Perché tre stelle come voto? Beh, in definitiva è stata una lettura che mi ha offerto un’ambientazione completamente nuova rispetto al solito e i vari elementi mitologici mi hanno tenuta comunque incollata al libro, anche se sono arrivata all’ultima pagina con un pizzico di insoddisfazione.

Das war mal ein etwas anderes Fantasybuch, und nach etwas Eingewöhnung hat es mir wirklich gut gefallen! Der Fokus liegt hier zwar auf der Liebesgeschichte, es geht aber genauso um politische Intrigen und Machtkämpfe sowie um die koreanische Mythologie und Geisterwelt. Dieser Aspekt hat mir sehr gefallen, denn es war für mich mal etwas komplett Neues!

Der Schreibstil ist etwas gewöhnungsbedürftig, die Sichtweise wechselt teilweise mitten im Paragraph und allgemein ist die Sprache sehr poetisch, mit Ausdrücken, die wir im Deutschen weniger kennen. Das liegt wohl an der Übersetzung und man braucht etwas Zeit, um sich darauf einzulassen, danach fand ich es aber wirklich schön geschrieben und sehr passend zur Geschichte!

Die Liebesgeschichte zwischen Bin und Eunho ist vielschichtig und herzerreißend. Es liegen sehr viele Emotionen in dem Buch und man fühlt richtig mit den Charakteren. Die weiteren Themen, insbesondere die koreanische Geister- bzw Unterwelt, fand ich sehr spannend. Ich hätte am Anfang nicht erwartet, dass diese ein so großes Thema ist, aber es verleiht dem Buch noch mal Spannung und einen besonderen Touch.

Insgesamt hat mir "The Legend of Lady Byeoksa" wirklich gut gefallen. Ich sehe den Titel (eher) als Jugendbuch und würde ihn ab 14 Jahren empfehlen!

Auch wenn mich das Cover und der Klappentext total angesprochen haben, wurde das Buch schnell zu einem DNF...

Das Buch war total zusammenhangslos, die Charaktere flach und der Schreibstil hat mich einfach nicht gecatched.
Vielleicht war es die Übersetzung, aber mindestens das erste Drittel war total verwirrend. Die Welt, die Magie, die Dämonen - nichts wurde erklärt. Die Dialoge wirkten seltsam und Schlussfolgerungen wurden an den Haaren herbeigezogen.

Leider keine Empfehlung :(

Das Buch hat mich von der ersten Seite an gefesselt. Es war absolut spannend. Ich fand vor allem den historischen Aspekt und das Setting in der Joseon-Dynastie einfach genial und sehr gut umgesetzt. Einzig und allein das abrupte und offene Ende war etwas überraschend und enttäuschend. Sonst aber fand ich das Buch absolut toll.

Seomun Bin was born with the ability to not only see but also attract ghosts. Shunned by her family, her allies are far and wide. Her childhood love no longer remembers her and it is now only her lady in waiting who knows that Bin roams outside fighting ghosts disguised as a man. During one mission, she crosses paths with the king's loyal servant Hyun Eunho takes note of her abilities and enlists her help - thus she gets drawn into court power struggles and underworld schemes alike.

I confess, I kind of missed that this is a translated book when I first picked it up. That being said, it was a very pleasant surprise - books in translation are definitely more on the market these days but we certainly don't get as many fantasy ones just yet. Let's hope this is a starting point! The Legend of Lady Byeoksa honestly reads like a k-drama, and I mean that in the best way possible. I also think that this book will work best for people who are indeed fans of Asian drama and fiction as there's definitely some narrative style I believe some might struggle with. This story is told from multiple point of views and it switches multiple times within a chapter - it's not always very obvious when a switch happens so you do need to keep an eye out for that. I've found this kind of narration not uncommon in Asian literature but I can see why it feels confusing to some.

I have also noticed a few reviews mentioning translation issues but my guess is that this was referring to a different edition. The English edition with the translation from Gene Png reads perfectly fine. I do wish there were a few footnotes to explain the Korean terms as there are quite a few and I grew a little tired of looking up their meanings (I do understand that the physical copy seems to have a glossary, I just personally prefer footnotes). While I find this narrative very readable, there were a few modern phrases peppered throughout and I can't say whether this was because of the translation or just how the book is written in the original. I do think it's fairly common in light or web novels but I understand this to be a regular novel. In any case, it did not bother my personal enjoyment of the book, but I do know that this is something people take note of for historical settings, fantasy or otherwise.

The actual story, as I mentioned, very much reads like a k-drama. It quickly draws you in with demonic fighting scenes and surprisingly dark and at times gory scenes. I think the story is well set up and has good pacing. Some scenes have really pretty imagery and you can just really imagine how well it would look on the screen. Bin is a pretty likeable main character - I didn't always agree with her choices but she had other's best interest in mind and acted accordingly. I almost found Payreo, a scheming deity, the most interesting character - he's definitely in the morally grey category and it was interesting to see how his story unfolded.

Bin's actual love interest reminded me a little of Jinshi from The Apothecary Diaries - I guess it was something about him being considered an unusual beauty court official with a flare for his fan. I liked him - his dynamics with Bin aren't my favourite kind of romance but I do think it was well done and I can see people liking it. The last 30% of the book escalated a bit and suddenly had a lot happening at once. I was a little worried that the ending wouldn't wrap up well and even questioned if this would truly be a standalone. It did end up tying things up though and I think it is a satisfying enough ending - similar to what I find is often the case for k-drama, the ending is a little vague so you might have to use your imagination a little but it is by no means bad or leavings you hanging.

I would definitely recommend this to fans of historical fantasy dramas, especially if you're partial to Korean ones. It's not a perfect delivery but it has many strong points and I'd love to see more similar works published.

Czy długość rozdziałów ma dla Was znaczenie podczas czytania?
Dla mnie ma ogromną! Dużo łatwiej i szybciej czyta mi się książkę, która ma krótsze rozdziały. W tym przypadku jednak rozdziały są baaardzo długie. Cała książka, chociaż nie jest jakaś gruba, bo ma około 300 stron, składa się z tylko pięciu rozdziałów. Ale jest na tyle wciągająca, że pochłonęłam ją w jeden dzień.
Uwielbiam książki w azjatyckim klimacie i czytam ich zdecydowanie za mało, więc ogromnie się cieszę, że w moje ręce trafiła “Legenda o łowczyni demonów”. I powiedzieć, że ta książka mnie zaskoczyła, to jak nie powiedzieć nic. Większość rzeczy była albo inna, niż się spodziewałam, albo wydarzyła się w zupełnie innym momencie fabuły i powiem Wam szczerze, że było to przyjemnie odświeżające.
Jestem ogromną fanką Bin oraz całego wątku romantycznego, który się tutaj pojawił. Jakoś całkowicie kupiło mnie to, że Eunho kompletnie nie pamięta Bin i nie rozpoznaje jej również przy ich spotkaniu, biorąc ją za mężczyznę przez to, że nosiła męskie ubranie. Emocje były aż namacalne, tym bardziej że główna bohaterka zmaga się nie tylko z duchami i demonami, ale również po części ze sobą. Uważa, że najbliżsi nie są przy niej bezpieczni i nie może przez to kochać. Momentami z powodu tych scen aż bolało mnie serce. W ich miłość trudno jest nie uwierzyć, a ja kibicowałam im od ich pierwszego spotkania, do samego końca książki. Są cudowną parą i nie spodziewałam się, że scena pisania znaków na ciele, może wywołać we mnie tyle ekscytacji!
Jeżeli chodzi o te słabsze strony, to narracja w książce nie jest najczytelniejsza. Mam na myśli to, że nie śledzimy historii z jednej perspektywy, a raczej dostajemy wgląd w myśli większości postaci. Skaczemy też z miejsca do miejsca, co czasami wprowadza chaos. Dodatkowo zdarzyło mi się zastanawiać, po co dostaliśmy jakąś scenę i czy do tego w ogóle wrócimy. Mam wrażenie, że spowodowane było to właśnie długością rozdziałów. Poniżej podaję przykład dla zobrazowania. Napisałam go w ogromnych ogólnikach, ale ostrzegam, jeżeli ktoś nie chce kompletnie nic sobie spoilerować.

Rozdział trzeci zakończył się dużą i ważną informacją, ale nagle wchodzi rozdział czwarty, który bardzo mi się podobał, ale w ogóle nie ciągnie tego wątku! Czyli przez około 60 stron nie dotykamy nawet i nie wracamy do tego, co się stało, stąd zaczęłam się zastanawiać, czy to w ogóle było dla naszej fabuły istotne. Na szczęście tak i w rozdziale piątym do tego wracamy, ale to była naprawdę długa przerwa, patrząc na objętość książki.

Nie zmienia to jednak faktu, że “Legenda o łowczyni demonów” mnie zdecydowanie zauroczyła i dużo zyskała, skręcając w kierunku, o który bym jej początkowo w ogóle nie podejrzewała. Więc jeżeli Wam również brakuje azjatyckich klimatów, to ta książka musi się znaleźć na waszych TBR!

“La Leggenda della Cacciatrice di Spiriti” è sicuramente la lettura perfetta per chi ama il folklore coreano e vive come me nel pieno dell’ossessione per “K-Pop Demon Hunters”. L’unico grande problema di questo romanzo breve è che ci sono troppe storyline intrecciate e poco tempo per svilupparle tutte al meglio.
Così Bin, protagonista assoluta di questa storia, viene soffocata da una serie di vicende parallele che non solo rallentano il ritmo, ma che impediscono di entrare pienamente nella vicenda. Il fascino del legame tra mondo dei vivi e inferi c’è tutto, gli ultimi atti sicuramente ci riportano al centro dell’azione e del conflitto interiore della protagonista, ma questo non è abbastanza, o almeno non mi permette di andare oltre la sufficienza con il mio giudizio.
“La Leggenda della Cacciatrice di Spiriti” risulta una storia abbastanza lineare, con un’esecuzione non sempre efficace e personaggə spesso dimenticabili.
Nemmeno la componente romantica che coinvolge Bin e il suo promesso sposo Eunho, che l’ha dimenticata dopo un incidente quasi mortale, è abbastanza per tenere alta l’attenzione dellə lettorə.
Insomma, poteva essere un gran bel libro, ma sia per la brevità, sia per l’ingenuità di alcune scelte narrative, non è riuscito a conquistarmi.

Ein unglaublich schönes Buch. Ich hatte hohe Erwartungen da ich die asiatische Kultur bewundere und ich sehr großes Interesse daran habe. Auch wurde mir das Buch empfohlen, da ich gerne animes schaue. Für alle die animes mögen, ist dieses Buch sehr gut geeignet.

Bin trägt ein hartes Schicksal auf ihren Schultern und musste mehrfach die Liebe ihres Lebens verlassen, damit er weiter leben kann und glücklich wird. Die Liebe von Bin ist unendlich, das Herz von ihr ist rein. Alles was sie sich wünscht ist ein normales Leben zu führen, in dem sie lieben darf ohne die Menschen zu verlieren und geliebt wird wie sie es sich wünscht und es verdient. Doch leider bleibt ihr dies immer wieder vergönnt.

Das Buch entfacht sämtliche Gefühle. Wut, Trauer, Glück, Hoffnung. Am Ende musste ich ein paar Tränen vergießen. Ein wirklich sehr schönes Buch.

Cambia prospettiva un pò come vuole, peccato perchè le basi le aveva tutte ma il pensiero non è bastato.

Enjoyed this one. I’ve read translated non-fiction and translated fiction that skewed more towards cosy magically realism so this was a different one for me.

I totally understand the quote that it was ‘like a k drama’, we get a lot of povs but from a wider lens, almost like watching a tv show.

The story is unique and well thought out. I really liked the characters and the love story. There was some great court politics, action and fantasy.

Koreanische Mythologie? Action? Romanze? Eine starke Heldin?

Der Klapptext hatte mich direkt überzeugt sich das Buch genauer anzuschauen.

Leider war das Buch dann doch nichts für mich.

Die Mythologie ist sehr oberflächlich und wird eigentlich kaum erklärt.

Action? Na ja, es passiert schon etwas, aber der Schreibstil ist simpel und distanziert. Die Handlung dümpelt nur vor sich hin. Die Kapitel und Abschnitte innerhalb der Kapitel sind relativ kurz. Man hat ständige Perspektivwechsel und daher liest sich das Buch auch schnell.

Die beiden Protagonisten sind langweilig und eindimensional. Der Held ist ein Schönling und die Heldin eine Seelenjägerin. Obwohl sie sagt, dass sie im Seelenjagen einige Erfahrung hat, macht sie sich nicht sonderlich erfahren an die Sache ran.

Deren Romanze ist auch einfach nicht existent. Sie wirken eher wie Bekannte, noch nicht einmal auf die freundschaftliche Weise.

Insgesamt war es ein irgendwie seltsames Gefühl dieses Buch zu lesen. Irgendwie passte alles nicht so richtig zusammen.

Ich hatte Spaß an dieser Geschichte, aber schon von Beginn an ließ mich ein komisches Gefühl nicht los, welches auch bis zum Ende der Lektüre erhalten blieb. Aus diesem Grund fällt es mir schwer, eine dezidierte Rezension zu verfassen.
In meinen Notizen zum Buch steht "Plot vorhanden und auch interessant, aber etwas wirr". Tatsächlich war es nicht einfach, der Handlung zu folgen, da viele für ein Verständnis der Ereignisse notwendige Informationen erst hinterher gegeben wurden, ohne dass sich aus der Zurückhaltung dieser Informationen der Aufbau eines Spannungsbogens ergab. Meinen anfänglichen Eindruck, dass ein "Plot vorhanden" sei, möchte ich insofern revidieren, als dass ich mich im Laufe des Buches immer wieder fragen musste, worauf diese Geschichte eigentlich hinauslaufen wollte. Es gab zwar immer ein Ziel, das erreicht werden musste, aber das wurde meist schon erreicht, kurz nachdem es ins Auge gefasst wurde. Auch gab es häufig nicht weiter gekennzeichnete Szenenwechsel, bei denen zwar die Perspektive zeitnah deutlich wurde, nicht aber der Zeitraum, zu dem sich die neue Szene relativ zur vorhergehenden Szene ereignete. Dem hätte man durch Kapitelüberschriften Abhilfe schaffen können. Stattdessen gab es nur vier oder fünf große Kapitel im gesamten Buch.
Die Figuren waren interessant, aber nicht gut genug ausgebaut. Die Motivation ihrer Handlungen lassen sich ausnahmslos durch ihre Zugehörigkeit zu den Lagern Gut oder Böse erklären. Die Gute will ihrem Liebsten keinen Schaden zufügen und hält sich deshalb von ihm fern, die Böse will die Macht an sich reißen, usw. Mehrmals erlangen Figuren ihre eigenen Erinnerungen oder bestimmte Informationen, die den Leser zwar möglicherweise überraschen, aber keinen wirklichen impact haben, weil die ganze Geschichte nur so dahinplätschert. Figuren sterben und sterben doch nicht - ein Mitleiden des Lesers kommt nicht auf, da er die Regeln dieser Welt nicht kennt.

Idee gut, aber ein besseres Worldbuilding und Ausarbeitung der Figuren hätte dieser Geschichte gut getan. Trotzdem kann man mit dem Roman Spaß haben.

I requested this ARC because I recently read another book set in the same era and absolutely loved it. That one ended up being a five-star read for me, so when I saw a Joseon dynasty story with a fantasy twist, I was immediately curious.

This story follows Lady Seomun Bin, a byeoksaga (ghost-stalker) who disguises herself as a man to perform exorcisms while trying to break a demonic curse placed on her. The mix of court politics, spirits, and Korean mythology made for an interesting premise, and I always enjoy stories set in this historical period.

That said, I think my expectations were a little high going in. Because the previous Joseon-era book I read left such a strong impression on me, I found myself comparing the two more than I expected. While this one had an intriguing concept and atmospheric moments, I didn’t feel as emotionally invested in the characters or the romance as I had hoped.

Overall, a solid historical fantasy with mythology and political intrigue, especially for readers who enjoy K-drama like historical settings with a supernatural twist.

die idee war super aber der rest war leider etwas schwach.

ich weiß nicht ob es die übersetzung war -ich nehme es nicht an, da das sehr viel ändern würde in der art wie ein Buch geschrieben wurde - aber die art wie es geschrieben war war leider absolut nicht mein fall.

ich mag es nicht wenn ich „Haaa…“ oder andere „geräusche“ ln Büchern ausgeschrieben anstatt beschrieben bekomme. möglicherweise sehr kleinlich aber für mich ist das eine schreibst die in Grapic novels, comics oder mangas gehört, vielleicht noch in kinderbücher (nichts gegen irgendeine dieser Bücher oder deren leser!) aber neben diesen recht häufigen einwürfen von Lauten und der art das Charaktere ihre Gedanken nicht nur gedacht sondern sich teilweise laut ausgesprochen haben obwohl es weder sinn ergibt das der charakter in diesen momenten spricht oder es nötig ist da der leser die Gefanken abfolge des Charakters sowieso mitliest.

kurz: es war einfach nicht meine art buch wie es geschrieben war.

etwas zu holprig und vielleicht am besten beschrieben als ungewöhnlich.

die Szenen und was geschieht springt zwischen momenten hin und her die mehr oder weniger einfach nur anfangen und enden ohne große erklärungen oder erläuterungen -und das welches zwischen den verschiedenen Charakteren wann und wie oft es passiert war alles sehr seltsam für mich. es hat sich für mich gelesen als hätte die Autorin so viel zu einer bestimmten Scene geschrieben wie ihr in diesem moment eingefallen ist, manchmal nur ein oder zwei seiten, oder über fünfzig, aber sobald diese bestimmte idee und das was passiert erledigt war hört es einfach nur auf und springt zum nächsten moment über.

mich hat es etwas an kurz geschichten erinnert obwohl das nicht wirklich gut beschriebt wie dieses Buch geschrieben ist.


dazu kam das der schreibstil es mir nicht möglich gemacht hat die Charaktere kennen und mögen zu lernen.


eindeutig nicht das Buch was für mich das richtige war.

Non è stato all'altezza delle aspettative. Tutto un pó banale e la protagonista sa solo lamentarsi e piangersi addosso. Storia abbozzata e caratterizzazione piatta.
La parte della mitologia coreana l'ho trovata interessante ma spiegata troppo superficialmente e non incastrata bene nella storia.
240 pagine che si leggono velocemente ma non lasciano granché. Peccato.
