Hooker and Running did an amazing job connecting with Navajo people who continue to engage in traditional practices that have been around for many years. The photography of the people and the land is simply stunning. And the written descriptions are so detailed that you feel like you, too, might be able to go out and make shampoo from yucca, or cook every single part of a goat. The author and photographer's love for the people shines through on every page.
Anyone who's curious about life on the Navajo reservation, or indeed anyone who's curious about how to live off the land, will find this book a treasure trove of information and delight.
My family lived near the Navajo reservation in northwest New Mexico for five years, so this book was especially welcome and interesting to us!
