In a lovely community in England, detective dog Sammy and his best friend Jake are pulled into a disquieting mystery. Somehow, someone is taking vast swaths of the grass on earth, leaving no trace! Together with aid from Gino, Phillip, and Laura, the dogs back at HQ, these intrepid heroes must solve the mystery before it’s too late. In an epic adventure that spans the stars, these down-to-earth pups must do their best to protect the ecosystems of earth!
Where is all the Grass Going? by D.E. Fox is a mystery story for children featuring fun, furry detectives that are each uniquely loveable. Sammy is a whippet, a breed built for speed that I had never heard pf until this book, and is the undisputed “brains” of the operation. Contrasting Sammy’s speed and smarts is Jake, a tough terrier who loves a good fight. The other dogs that pepper the story each have their own special part to play as the adventure unfolds, from tiny Gino as he learns about leadership to lovely Laura who struggles to find a new home. I loved how each of the dogs was so well-written, their vibrant personalities leaping off the page as their human “parents” escort them to the park and beyond. I really loved Sandra and Brian (who are not dogs, but very special creatures from afar), and the family dynamic they shared.
The only slight hiccup was that the book begins well, but then takes the reader to the backstory of the HQ dogs for many pages before returning to the main event. However, although this was a bit odd, the storytelling is on point, and there is never a dull moment in this fast-paced mystery. I liked that the author speaks to the reader, and showed how much dogs make a difference in our lives (even when they’re not actively saving the planet…or are they?). Above all, this story is so much fun, and earns four out of five stars for its inclusivity, excellent plot, and meaningful characters full of life.
A great pick for readers 8 and up who love dogs and a good mystery, this is a perfect choice for reading on a rainy afternoon (I speak from experience). Mortality is mentioned, but not in a violent or scary fashion, and actually shows how much departed friends mean to their communities. A great book to read together or independently, dog lovers will enjoy this interstellar adventure full of fun and furry friends.
I received a free review copy of this book, and this is my fair and honest opinion of the work.

What an adorable book! We humans can learn a lot from Jake and Sammy and the rest of the crew. These dogs set out to help others solve their dilemmas. Not just with other dogs, but animals of all kinds. It’s a funny, yet beautiful story of how so many different animals no matter what the background dogs, squirrels, birds etc come together as one in order to get things done. To not only save the world but beyond.

Although it is a children’s book, I being a middle age woman enjoyed it so much. I enjoyed how the author engaged with the reader throughout. I found myself laughing throughout, and absolutely loved the characteristics of the animals. Would definitely recommend for family reading.

Across the world, a mysterious event has been occurring that no one has answers to. For some reason, grass across the world has been disappearing at astonishing rates in “Where Is All the Grass Going?” by D E Fox. The theft is at such high rates that global leaders have been calling emergency telephone meetings with each other, trying to figure out the cause of such an outlandish crime. Plus, now they have to figure out how to replace the grass in such large amounts in time for things such as the Olympics in Paris or the US Open to happen.

No one would ever think that ordinary dogs, Phillip, Gino, Jake, and Sammy, would try finding out not only who has been stealing the massive amounts of grass from around the world, but also just how they are going to stop this worldwide crime from continuing. Putting all their ingenuity together, this team of dogs sets out to find the thieves and help restore lawns around the world.

Right from the start, this reviewer found this story to be creatively ingenious. To first think of thieves stealing massive amounts of grass from around the world, without a known cause, was just hilarious to base a book around. Now add to the mix a bunch of different dogs, all with different intelligence levels, trying to solve this universal crime occurring around the world, and you have the perfect mix of creativity and humor to carry you through this story. The author created her characters, human and animal, to all be well-rounded and believable. You can’t help but fall in love with the animals, seeing how they all set out to solve this ongoing worldwide crime.

The lessons learned throughout this entertaining read are not only about teamwork as the various animal species work together to fix this worldwide issue, but also the strong friendship bonds that were forged with all the species coming together for a universal cause. Plus, it shows young readers that if you come together to work on a unified goal, you can achieve great results. Readers can walk away not only learning a few lessons but laughing at the silly antics the animals do throughout the pages.

“Where Is All the Grass Going?” by D E Fox is one story that will have you laughing out loud while enjoying the central theme of how grass from around the world is being stolen for an unknown reason. Readers will fall in love with all the quirky animal characters and will find themselves rooting them on as you turn the pages. Plus, once you find out why the grass is being stolen, you’ll find yourself trying to figure out a solution along with all the animals to fix the situation. This storyline is unique and fresh, and can be enjoyed by readers of all ages!

When I first saw the title for this book, I was expecting it to be pretty similar to another children's book I read as a child which also involved the grass disappearing, called The Death Of Grass. However, whereas that story was very bleak and depressing, Where Is All The Grass Going is completely different in every way; uplifting and fun.

It is been such a long time since I last read a children's book, so I wasn't sure I would enjoy it. However, I have to say that this is such a light-hearted book, in that I couldn't help smiling like an idiot while reading it! Also, I cannot remember the last time I laughed so hard while reading a book!

Basically the story is about a group of dogs who run a secret agency, helping other animals who are in a bit of bind etc .... Think of it like The King's Man, but with dogs.... only much, much, much more fun! When the world's grass begins to disappear the group are called into action to solve the problem without the human's discovering what they are up to. During the course of the story we are introduced a wide range of interesting characters. The reveal as to the identity of the one behind the dastardly shenanigans was quite an eyebrow raising moment, which I didn't see coming (also had me laughing WTF!).

Credit to the author for creating such an interesting and fun world. Introducing us to the likes of Gino, Phillip, Sammy and Jake (my favourite out of the bunch!). I like the fact how the the author took the time to make sure each of the characters had their own quirks and personalities.

For the parents out there, I would definitely recommend you giving this book for your child to read. It is a very simple plot, easy-paced, with plenty of jokes and laugh out loud moments.

This is the author's second book and you can tell she's really starting to shine with her storytelling. I wouldn't be surprised if we end up seeing more from her canine friends. Will we get to see Jake & Co on the big screen at some point in the future... who knows.

Cannot recommend this book highly enough.

I would have enjoyed having this book read to me as a child. And I'm sure there are many children who will love reading it.
It's a story where animals talk to each other and become the saviours of the world.
With lots of animal adventures along the way, the kids will love it.

this was such an adorable + quirky book! it's a children's book, which is normally not what i go for but i've been in search of books i can read to my little one so when chloe from bookworm books reached out, i had to give the book a chance! i read this while working for a lil light read and ended up finishing once i was home.

this book was a mystery story for children featuring furry lil detectives that are so lovable in their own way. their personalities entirely jumped off the page. the storytelling was absolutely on point and i felt as if there was never a dull moment within this book. i loved the inclusion of news articles, photos and information on our adorable detectives, it felt as if i was fully immersed in this world the author has created. i know that will come in handy during reads to little ones.

this will absolutely be a book i purchase in the near future to add to my little ones evergrowing bookshelf.

** I received a free copy of this book in exchange for a honest opinion of it.

I found this to be a delightful and heartwarming adventure for both kids and adults. The story cleverly intertwines the lives of various animals, particularly dogs and guinea pigs, as they embark on a mission to solve the mystery of disappearing grass. The characters are charming and relatable, especially Jake, the mischievous terrier, and Sammy, his clever whippet friend. The narrative is filled with humor, excitement, and even a touch of emotion, particularly during the memorial for Charles, which adds depth to the tale. Overall, it’s a fun read that captures the imagination while also delivering important themes of friendship and teamwork. Highly recommend for anyone looking for a light-hearted yet engaging story!

Engaging Canine Detective Mystery

Where is All the Grass Going? by D.E. Fox is a delightful and funny mystery that had me smiling from start to finish. The story revolves around a group of clever dogs who take on the role of detectives, solving the curious case of the disappearing grass. The author's skillful writing and witty humor shine throughout the narrative, making it a thoroughly enjoyable read.
The dogs, with their unique personalities, are endearing. The inclusion of color photographs, especially those featuring the canine detectives, adds a special touch to the book and enhances the reader's experience. D.E. Oh my goodness, this book is so cute! If you want a book with animals solving mysteries and adorably fun moments (such as when a little dog wakes out of sleep proclaiming “I’m a big dog!”, meerkats preparing tea, multiple dance parties…), check out this book! The author even had a recommendation to take a “tea break” when one chapter went on a bit longer than expected. I’m an adult who mostly reads horror, and I loved this book. Kids will love it too! It’s simply impossible not to love. Fantastic introduction into mystery/thriller books for children or a welcome reprieve from stress for adults. Solve the case with Jake and friends! I will always remember this book fondly and will revisit it again in the future when I need a really fun pick-me-up!

What a delightful read…

Where is all the grass going is a children’s crime/mystery book which follows secret agents Jake and Sammy as they try to figure out the mystery of what happened to all the grass.

This was honestly such a fun read I’ve smiled from start to finish… dog agents, birds helping to save the day… it was all truly quirky and adorable.

It might be a children’s book and I’m sure the kids will enjoy this immensely but if as an adult you’re ever having a bad day, this is a read for you, it’s a book that honestly feels like a warm hug.

Fun and Original!

Jake and Sammy are the best sleuth/spy team I've met this year. Where Is All The Grass Going? follows several different teams of animals as they put together an undercover organization to help other animals, then recruit more and more pets to join as agents. I like that both Sammy and Jake have strengths and weaknesses and play into them to bolster each other. And with a title like that and an opening describing grass just disappearing, it'll keep you hooked through the last page.

a fun read for any age!

A wacky, fun, and action packed story. When all the grass starts vanishing, who can solve the mystery? Well, a doggy team of secret agents, that’s who! Kids will love this crazy tale. Loved the characters, especially the loveable but slightly daft Jake.
Im not sure what age it is marketed towards, but I enjoyed it at the ripe old age of 42, and I’m certain my 8yo would love it too. The language used is easy to understand for a younger audience and encourages independent reading. A a fun read for any age.

I found this author by chance, and as I love a good mystery I had to give it a go.
It reminded me a lot of the film 'Cats and Dogs', with the secret agent dogs. Which is great!
It was very fun, and I loved Sammy and Jake. It flowed well and is worth a read.
I would happily read more from this author.
