Anne had everything she had ever wanted—the man of her dreams, a bustling court and a horse named Carrots. That was until she had a brush with a wild wolf who revealed what she was truly missing…
Every detail of Lady Anne’s life has been meticulously planned, including the man she was destined to marry, the new lord of Alderdeen, Hartwinn Novak. But when a scared horse and a broken promise drag her deep into the Silva Forest and right to the feet of fae warrior turned emissary, Henry Ashmore, everything Anne knows about duty, honour and love begins to unravel.
Anne has a challenging task ahead of her: transforming the surly, poorly mannered Henry into a crooning, suave gentleman to gain the favour of Hartwinn’s council as he bargains for his people's freedom. From mastering the art of proper silverware use to navigating the dance floor without stepping on her toes, their lessons soon transform into a battle against temptation that neither should give in to. Yet, Anne must make a choice. Follow the path laid out for her, or risk everything for a love she cannot have.
The Rose and Her Warrior weaves a steamy, forbidden romance between a young Lady Anne and a broken Henry, with an action-packed tale full of duelling lords and tension-filled lessons on manners. For those who loved the swaggering knights in A Knights Tale, the gossip and balls of Bridgerton and the spiciness of From Blood and Ash.
I’m Demi Clorissa, a proud Wiradjuri woman, who writes heart breaking dark romantic fantasy. You will find body diverse FMCs, men who YEARN, and emotional damage (that will make you reach for the tissues) within the pages. I’m inspired by strong women, and those who they decide to love.
When I’m not writing you’ll find me reading anything I can get my hands on (mostly fantasy), reading BL, watching trashy TV shows, and spending my afternoons at the cinema. I love food (but I’m a self confessed awful cook!). I’m blessed to have a little dachshund, Della, who is often curled around my feet as I craft my next emotional scene.
Demi Clorissa has crafted a truly captivating story with The Rose and Her Warrior. From the very first page, I was drawn into Lady Anne's world, a world of arranged marriages, courtly duties, and a surprisingly delightful horse named Carrots! But beneath the surface of her seemingly perfect life, a yearning for something more simmers, and it's beautifully ignited by her encounter with the enigmatic Henry Ashmore.
The dynamic between Anne and Henry is electric. Their initial animosity, born from their vastly different worlds, quickly gives way to a delicious tension that sizzles off the page. Clorissa excels at portraying the slow burn of their forbidden romance. The lessons Anne provides Henry teaching him etiquette and charm are not just about improving his manners, but about stripping away his hardened exterior to reveal the vulnerable and honorable warrior beneath. Each lesson is a step closer to the inevitable, a battle they both desperately try to resist.
The story isn't just about romance, though. The political intrigue surrounding Hartwinn's council and the desperate need to secure freedom for Henry's people adds layers of depth and suspense. The action is well-paced and exciting, keeping you on the edge of your seat.
Clorissa's writing is lush and evocative, painting a vivid picture of the Silva Forest and the opulent court. The characters are well developed and relatable, even with their fantastical elements. I genuinely cared about Anne's internal struggle and Henry's journey to reclaim his hope.
If you're a fan of "A Knight's Tale," "Bridgerton," and the spicy romance of "From Blood and Ash," then you absolutely NEED to read The Rose and Her Warrior. It's a perfect blend of historical fantasy, forbidden love, and political intrigue. I devoured this book in one sitting and I'm already impatiently waiting for the sequel! Highly recommend!
"Is it devilish that I wish I was the one who made you smile like that every day?"
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 🌶🌶🌶
What you'll find in this book: - Forced Proximity - Age Gap - He Marks Her - Sassy Horse - Fated Mates - Star Crossed Lovers with Plenty of Yearning - Mental Health Rep (PTSD and Anxiety) - She Gives Him Lessons on Manners - "You feel like you were made for me"
This is one of those books that you can't help but get lost in, I started reading this and just couldn't stop, and before I knew it, it was over. Having started this book with all of the characters where they were and the positions they were in I had no idea how Demi was going to maneuver everything, but damn did she create one heck of an amazing story. If you're looking for a story packed with star crossed lovers, political intrigue, fated mates, witty banter and a snarky FMC who cannot keep her mouth shut then please pick up this book!
We begin our story with Anne and Hartwinn who are betrothed, we then get a first hand experience of Anne adjusting to her new life as a soon to be Lords wife. With every detail of her life planned out for her from birth, Anne feels suffocated and as everything begins to shift around her she finds herself running, or should I say riding. After a close run in due to a scared horse and a broken promise Anne finds herself face to face with the famed Henry Ashmore, even if she doesn't initially realise it. From that point forward everything Anne knows about her feelings begins to unravel more and more with each heated look and interaction with the fae she can't erase from her mind. Henry being a warrior at heart finds himself fumbling through court life when Anne offers to help teach him. However, with more and more time together and temptations mounting that they feel neither of them should give into, will Anne risk it all to follow her heart or her head?
My heart breaks for Anne, even though she did frustrate me at times (and by that I mean I was internally screaming at her to rip the damn bandaid off). She is put in a situation no one ever thinks they will find themselves in, and despite it taking a little while she figures out what and who she wants. Anne is an absolute firecracker I'll give her that, she is not one to be silenced in a world created and ruled by men and I was here for all of her snark and wit pushing herself and her intelligence on to the world. Hartwinn goes full circle in terms of character development, initially sweet, doting and wanting to do the best for his land and his people eventually the whisperings of others sour him to point he becomes someone Anne barely recognises. I have to admit in the nicest respect I was not rooting for him, and I don't think we are meant to, but his character shift towards the end of the book lightened him in my eyes. He forms such an important part of the book, being Anne's betrothed and a Lord, this meant that Anne feels pressed enough by societal norms to keep her feelings of being drawn to Henry internalised for fear of judgement by those around her and how the delicate peace being formed between Henry and Hartwinn may be damaged and leave people to suffer. Henry, I think is my favourite character, you see a lot of female characters that bring that sunshine dynamic to a book and it was nice to have this in the form of the hunking Fae male that is Henry. He is witty and quick to banter and joke, which brought a smile to my face while I was reading. Where sections with Hartwinn and Anne feel tense and underwritten with a tone similar to that of walking on eggshells, interactions between Henry and Anne are lighter, two people simply being themselves providing an excellent contrast and ebb and flow for the story. I was here for it when finally Henry decided he was all in and was done fighting the inevitable forces pushing our two main characters together. Demi has created characters with such amazing personalities allowing for dynamics that keep you hooked page after page.
When it comes to worldbuilding Demi has done an incredible job of providing us an insight into the world before we reached it in the first book in the series. This story provides us with the information at to the foundations that the world in the first book was made upon, and of course introducing us to some characters we already know and love. Like I've mentioned before the pacing in this book ebbs and flows beautifully with the highs and lows of the story. Demi has taken some difficult subjects and handled them with such care in amongst a romance full of love and heartbreak. This book very simply carried me along for the ride and I can't wait for the next book in the series already.
Thank you so much to the author for sending me an e-ARC to read and review early.
Author: Demi Clorissa Series: The Divine Brides Publisher: Whisper in the Wood Press Release Date: April 15th, 2025
I loved getting to know Anne, Henry and Hartwinn. Having met these characters in These Shadows Become Her, i was so excited to delve into their story. I loved the depth and complexity of every character. I loved Anne, even though i got frustrated at her sometimes. There were many thought-provoking moments that focused on feminism, and mental health. This story was heartwrenching and absolutely beautiful. I rooted for Anne and Henry, but Hartwinn was such a complex character that I couldn’t help feel for as well. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and I hope we see their characters again in The Divine Brides series, book 2.
"I want more than a flicker of a flame. I wish for a roaring fire. Destructive but beautiful. Ever-consuming.”
SHUT UP RIGHT NOW this book is everything 😭 I thought I loved Henry before??? But now I would literally do anything for the man! I absolutely adored this look into the story of Anne & Henry’s life changing love. It was sweet, spicy, and very emotional. I love Demi’s writing, it is all consuming.
We knew how their story ends but in The Rose and Her Warrior, we journey back to how their love story first began.
Lady Anne is heiress to her father’s lands. Her future was already set—marry Hartwinn, bear his heirs. But while their childhood friendship blossomed into love, something was always missing. Could she find pieces that make her whole? A fae warrior careens into her life and suddenly, they find themselves battling between their duty and the desire in their hearts.
Tropes: ⚠️Love triangle 🫂Forced proximity ❤️🩹Mental Health rep 🕰️Age Gap 🩹Emotional Scars & Angst 🫦He marks her 🐎Sassy Horse 🌶️: open door
Demi once again set my heart on fire with this sizzling forbidden romance and I fell deeper in love with this world in this prequel story.
I love Anne’s passion and sass and how she unapologetically pushes back against societal propriety. Henry is a beautifully broken soul scared to be broken further. While denying their temptation, circumstances force them closer. The author explores first love and their journey of healing together. We see some of the decisions that ultimately shape their futures and the foreshadowing of what’s to come.
The Rose and Her Warrior is a beautifully written story of loss, love, and embracing fate. Fans of A Knight’s Tale and Bridgerton will adore this story! I cannot wait for the next book in this series.
Huge thanks to the author for the ARC opportunity. This is my honest and voluntary review.
Do I appreciate getting to read Anne and Henry's story? Yes. Do I think it could've been half the length and then the second half of this continuing Mia's story? Also, yes. Very very slow burn. I do enjoy that we got important details about Cidran, Wyn, and some of the other side characters, but the entire time I was begging for more about Mia. ALSO HOW DID WE STOP BEFORE MIA SHOWED UP AT THEIR DOORSTEP!?
This book was an absolute delight! I could not put it down—The Rose and Her Warrior swept me away with its irresistible mix of sass, steam, and heart. Demi Clorissa has crafted a slow-burn, fated-mates romance that’s as swoony as it is emotional, and it had me grinning, blushing, and clutching my chest all the way through.
Lady Anne is a total gem—sassy, clever, and stronger than anyone gives her credit for. Her banter with Henry? Sizzling. Their chemistry practically crackles off the page, and watching her try to tame this broody, battle-scarred fae warrior into a passable courtly gentleman? Pure gold. The forced proximity, the age gap, the tension-filled etiquette lessons that slowly turn into longing looks and barely restrained touches... it’s delicious.
And yet, this isn’t just about the spice (though that 3/5 rating delivers nicely)—it’s got a lovely emotional undercurrent too. Anne’s torn loyalties, Henry’s past wounds, and the ever-present tug of political intrigue add real depth to the story. The writing is rich and immersive, with a touch of whimsy and humour that reminded me of A Knight’s Tale, but wrapped in a world as lush and glittering as Bridgerton, with just enough danger and longing to satisfy From Blood and Ash fans.
If you're looking for a prequel that feels complete yet leaves you desperate for more, this is it. Sweet, spicy, and totally captivating. I’m already itching to dive into the Divine Bride series and see where it all leads.
This is a prequel story to the Divine Bride series, but is intended to be read between books one and two. The Divine Bride series is a dark romantasy where romance and fantasy are intertwined with secrets and mystery. I received an advance review copy and my thoughts are my own. Thank you to the author for my eArc.
Tropes and themes include: ✨ Love triangle ✨ Forced proximity ✨ Mental health rep (PTSD & anxiety) ✨ Age gap ✨ You were made for me ✨ Funny, sassy horse ✨ Star-crossed lovers (forbidden love)
Rating: 4.5/5 Stars 3/5 Flames
Nickname: Fate
The Lovely: I loved loved Anne and Henry’s chemistry over the course of this long novella/short book. They are absolutely beautiful together, which is all the more heartbreaking as Anne is betrothed to another. This is also a story of prejudice against those who are different, which Henry and Anne must contend with.
Recommendation: As the story of how Henry and Anne came together (they are Kali and Mia’s parents in book one, These Shadows Become Her). I was so excited to understand their backgrounds. And wow did this pack a punch. If you like romantasy full of yearning and tension amid a forbidden love, I think you would like this story.
This book reminded me of how much I absolutely loved These Shadows Become Her and how much Demi loves to rip our hearts out 🥲 I absolutely adored Anne and Henry’s origin story. The forbidden romance was done to perfection, the pining, the angst ughhh it was so good. It was also such a delight to recognize names of characters who will pop up in TSBH.
The Rose and Her Warrior is a short novel part of the Divine Bride series and is meant to be read after TSBH even though it’s a prequel. I am in love with Demi’s writing style, her descriptive words and immersive world building pulls you right into the story. She has a way of bringing out all the emotions.
Anne and Henry are simply a match made in heaven. Their chemistry was everything. I also loved how Anne grew in her self confidence throughout the story and stood up for herself and her beliefs — as well as Henry allowing himself to love again. TRAHW is definitely a must read as part of the Devine Brides series - if you loved Mia’s story then you won’t want to miss out on Anne’s!
Thank you to the author for an eArc to read and review 🖤🖤
When I read These Shadows Become Her I was so intrigued by Henry and Anne and I adored their relationship and how they were written as parents so being able to get a book of how they met and how their relationship began? PERFECT
I adored every single thing about this, the setting is beautiful and vivid and the characters are so well written and each of them have so many layers and emotions and I couldn’t get enough
Anne was so well written and I loved watching her grow and change and fight for what and who she loves and seeing her fight back on the demands that this society placed on women was so inspiring and her love for Henry UGH my heart
Henry is the mysterious and brooding knight with a soft and caring heart and I LOVED every single bit of him, from the way he cared for Anne to seeing him brave his fears and anxieties for the good of his people
And the epilogue???! SO BITTERSWEET with Kali and knowing what happens in These Shadows Become Her I was sobbing
If you’re a fan of Bridgerton and A Knights Tale this is for you, if you love pining and start crossed lovers then this is for you too!!!!
Whoa…trying to practice deep breaths so I don’t sob at how ABSOLUTELY BEAUTIFUL this story was. My heart can’t freaking take it!! 😭
“I’d give up a thousand lives for you, Anne. For you, I’d give up everything.”
Getting this backstory for Henry and Anne has just done me in. I loved them before, but I love them so much more now. The pain they endured to be together has me in a puddle. Knowing what we know in These Shadows Become Her…it’s a punch to my bleeding heart.
“Anne craved to be with him, in whatever sense: friends, lovers, even enemies. She wanted to loathe him, love him and long for him in every breath she took on this earth and in every lifetime she was cast to.”
The yearning and tension here was absolute perfection! I’m so happy and heartbroken at the same time. You’ll understand once you read it! Gah, I needed this and I can’t wait for the next book in the Divine Bride series.
Henry and Anne aside, this story serves to add complexity to some important side characters from TSBH and I’m devastated all over again.
The Rose and Her Warrior A Divine Bride Novel By Demi Clorissa
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 🌶🌶🌶
🗡 Forced Proximity 🥕 Age gap 🗡 Mental health rep 🥕 He marks her 🗡 Love triangle 🥕 The knight's tale meets bridgerton meets FBBA 🗡 Lessons in manners 🥕 Sassy horse 🗡 Star crossed lovers
I absolutely adored this spicy romantasy that Demi wrote. This followed along the story of Anna, a human woman who is engaged to be wed to her literal childhood best friend and first love Lord Novak (Hartwin) when Hartwin decides to try and make peace with the fae by inviting some to come and make a treaty of sorts on their land, one of the fae he invited is one of his friends, and boy oh boy does he stir the HEAT 🥵 Anne doesn't know what is about to happen when he turns up, only that he is coming, while she is expecting some old man, he is anything but 🫠
This incredible novel has everything from the angst, the love triangle, the push and pull, to political intrigue. And we cannot forget Carrots the horse and her sass!
Step back in time before These Shadows Become Her and see how Anne and Henry began their love journey in The Rose and Her Warrior, a novella apart of the Divine Bride series
If you are a fan of Fantasy Romance with a Love Triangle between a Childhood Best Friend and Broody Fae Warrior, Star Crossed Lovers with Plenty of Yearning, Age Gap, Forced Proximity, Emotional Scars, Angst, Mental Health Rep (PTSD + Anxiety) and so much more this one is for you!
Anne has been promised to marry Hartwinn but it’s not so bad, he is her best friend and she has loved him since she was 17. Although his new role as Lord of Alderdeen has started to put a wedge between them and she is constantly being reminded her role is to be quiet and mother his future children, which doesn’t sit well with Anne.
But one day when Anne goes for a ride on her faithful horse Carrots, fate collides her with Henry, a former fae warrior that has come to help her soon to be husband. But there is something drawing Anne to Henry that she can’t explain and no matter how much she tries to deny it she can’t stay away from the fae warrior especially when she has to teach him manners.
I loved Anne’s sassiness and the way she never backed down really from anyone but especially Henry. You see her really be herself around him and the way she helps him through his PTSD it was like she had been doing it forever. The care that Anne and Henry had for each other was so swoon worthy. The moment Henry hit the page I was rooting for them and loved watching their relationship grow throughout the story.
I am absolutely in love with this series, and I can not get enough!
Demi's writing has you hooked from the first sentence. There isn't a lot of world building, as this is a novella, which is meant to be read after the first book. This novella is set before the first book in the series as we follow the relationship of the adoptive parents of the FMC from the first book.
The characters are loveable and flawed. There is "cheating" involved in this book but not between the MCs.
I loved the mental health representation in Demi's writing. Both MCs have their own issues but love each other anyway.
Tropes: Slow-burn, forbidden love, forced proximity, and yes, a sassy horse named Carrots.
Quotes:
"I would bleed myself dry for those I care about, Henry. One drop is nothing. " Anne whispered, her lips barely parting. "One drop is everything to me."
'She shouldn't have to hide in shame for what a man decided to do to her, nor would she ever again.'
“Isn’t that once-in-a-lifetime love worth fighting for?”
“My heart is fragile, broken and utterly yours.”
“Jump, and she would ask how high. Run, and she would ask how fast. Love him, and she would ask how endlessly, how deeply.”
I had just finished devouring These Shadows Become Her (book 1 in the Divine Bride series) before jumping feet first into this book and honestly it was the best way to read them. I am jealous of anyone reading this series for the first time!! I genuinely read this entire story in one whole day. At one point I may have cursed my domestic chores keeping me from Anne and Henry!!
Having met the main characters of this book as almost cameos in the first book, hearing and seeing their stories come alive to bookend where I left off was chefs kiss 🤌🏻💋
I loved the immediate twist in character plot (no spoilers here) and I just adored the way way Demi weaved humour and lightheartedness through this fated, angsty and raw love story 10 stars!
An interesting take on the Fae and their relationship with humans. I enjoyed the story of Lady Anne, Hartwin & Henry. I thought this was a nice mix of medieval and Fae. I loved that there was some sexual freedom in their society, that the women were able to have their flings without too much recourse BUT there was still society trying to harness them once married. The Fae that weren't all powerful as they are in most books was really interesting to read about. There was some "cultural" rasicsm between Fae & Humans, some romantic angst and a few other interesting things that kept the book flowing nicely. I was lucky to be given an advance copy to read in return for review. I haven't read book 1 but I still had no trouble following the story and enjoying it quite a bit, I definitely want to read the next book to see who it's about and what happens next.
Let me start by saying that if Demi wrote a book about Carrots eating grass in a forest, I’d 100% read it. She was my favourite character and absolutely stole the show!
This book is a prequel to These Shadows Become Her and follows Anne and Henry. I really liked these characters in These Shadows Become Her, so I was excited to go back in time and see what secrets they were hiding. The story was spicy, intriguing, and absolutely heartbreaking at times. I couldn’t put it down. Now I’m counting the days until the next book in The Divine Bride Series is released.
Favourite quote: “You follow that heart inside your chest, Anne, and try not to look back… Because you will not wish to see the trail of destruction you will leave behind by choosing with your heart”
The Rose and her warrior intertwines fate with expectations and the push and pull of wanting to do what is seen as the right thing and being able to choose your own path. It all comes together is a melting pot of Anne’s love stories. First love, friendship, finding love for yourself and the blinding passion and need that comes with true love. Add in court politics, feminism and finding your voice as a woman in a man’s world and you have a story that engages you until the last beautiful line. This story is a prequel of sorts to These shadows become her and getting to know Henry and Hartwinn, to understand Anne and how she fought for her family just makes Mia’s story even better. If you haven’t read it yet, go now. I’m a huge fan of this series and am eagerly awaiting the next instalment.
Another well done story from Demi Clorissa, The Rose and Her Warrior is a prequel novella that tells the story of Anne and Henry. We got a few good glimpses of them in These Shadows Become Her, but I’m glad we got to understand them better. Their motivations, their hearts, how their bond formed, and how Anne grew from the young woman who was duty-bound to the fierce lady fighting the power to do what her heart told her was right. I knew this wouldn’t be easy for me to read with the cheating, but the insight gained into them as people and their relationship was super important! Overall I enjoyed it! I hope we get to see Seanna’s story come into play at some point too. She’s somethin’ else!
Thank you to Demi Clorissa for the gifted review copy!!
I’m in love with these characters! The amount of overwhelming emotions I felt while reading this book…UGH! I think I could relate to Anne, the FMC, more than I could with most others I’ve read. Her beliefs are inspiring and her love is fierce. This book had a little bit of everything from unwavering love to utter heartbreak, unconditional friendship to betrayal, doors slamming shut and others being ripped open. This books does end on a happy note and I would’ve burned the world down if I didn’t. Anne and Henry deserve all of the love in the world! Now, I need to know what/who a certain best friend chose. Demi did NOT disappoint with this one!
𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐭𝐨 𝐞𝐱𝐩𝐞𝐜𝐭: 🩵 Fated Mates 🩵 Betrayal 🩵 Secrets 🩵 Court Politics 🩵 Carrots 🐴 🩵 Dueling Over Her 🩵 Hurt/Comfort 🩵 Forbidden Love
I absolutely devoured Herny and Anne's story! I've been waiting for this since Demi teased that they would be getting their own book!
Anne is constantly working to be the perfect lady of the court that she was raised to be, so that she can be everything that Hartwin needs. They have been betrothed since they were children but they genuinely love each other so she will do all she can to support him.
Hartwin's father is gone and he is now leading his people to what will he hopes will be a new future where the fae and humans live peacefully together in Alderdeen. He convinces Henry to come as an emissary for the fae to discuss how they can make this reality.
Henry is a famed fae warrior with his own demons to fight, but his biggest battle is fighting his feelings for Anne and not messing up this chance for peace. No matter how hard he tries, this pull between the two of them won't relent and they are moving ever so slowly to hurting everyone around them.
Their story is a delicious slow burn of a love triangle that you want to happen but know that it's going to lead to heartbreak for someone. Lots of tension, palpable heat, with so much push and pull of emotions. This is a fantastic love triangle, that doesn't shy away from the uncomfortable feelings that come with it.
I love Anne and Henry's story so much, and I can't wait to read the rest of this series!
This is a prequel that has been published between book 1 and 2 of the series, Divine Brides, and you could read it as a standalone, or read it first - it doesn’t change much of the overall experience (imo). The vibes are very historical romantasy, there isn’t much magic and probably not as much world building as you might want, because Book 1 of the series does that heavy lifting.
THAT ASIDE oh my gosh this is torture. Betrothal, best friend from childhood, court drama, SEXY FAE MAN SHOWS UP and throws Anne’s world off its axis - look, just read it and enjoy it.
I absolutely adored this prequel to These Shadows Become Her! The character development of Anne and Henry, and their relationship is a 10/10!
I especially loved Henry's character - a newcomer in a seemingly foreign land, a true gentleman, pining over a mysterious girl he met in the forest - all the while still trying to deal with his demons. The way Anne's character reacts to reassure him - so, so amazing.
Also - can we have a moment for the writing behind Anne's thinking when Novak leaves her unsatisfied? Demi writes exactly how we would all think, and it's so refreshing to see that! Anne is a strong, independent woman, and I was so happy to see how this came through in the text.
The banter, the pining and the lovesickness of it all - PERFECTION!
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
I ordered it as soon as it was published and I have DEVOURED it. The Rose and her Warrior is beautifully written, there were parts I teared up, went nooo and just screamed in my head. Henry is every girl's dream. I love how different themes were written and how everything was went about it. Demi has done amazing for her new novella and I'm eagerly awaiting These Memories That Bind Her. Get the book if you can and see for yourself. One of my 5 star reads this year ❤️
Why the hell did Twilight sell a million copies and not this? This deserves more sales than ACOTOR, than that sexy dragon book series, than 50 Shades of Grey, than the Thesaurus.
Is beautiful. Is perfect. Is gluten free. Is for everyone.
I recommend this book to my friends, to my not-so-friends-but-i-stil-talk-to-them-anyway, to my husband, to my sister, to my mother in law, to my neighbour, to that lady down the street handing out face cream coupons, to Taylor Swift and to all unborn children.
my god am i speechless. this book is so beautiful and emotional and i seriously don’t have the words. i love anne and henry and most of everyone else in this book. i cannot wait to read more. i’m in awe of demi and her writing and cannot thank her enough for allowing me the tremendous honor of reading her books. please, i am begging, go read these shadows become her and then read this one. it will change your life as it has mine.
Such a beautiful book. The love story before the love story. A human and a fae falling in love. She's betrothed so it could is technically cheating on a MCs part, but when you really you'll understand that she was not exactly being cherished. There's love and there's IN love. And that was this book is about. Finding the deepest love and that we all deserve to be happy and sometimes that comes with making hard choices. This is a prequel to These Shadows Become Her, and you should absolutely read that book as well.
Oh my goodness I couldn't put this book down. I loved the instant connection between Henry and Anne, their sparking chemistry and the slow burn between them. I loved getting to see more of this world that I was introduced to in These Shadows Become Her and I have the biggest urge to go back and re-read that book again now!
