لطالما زعم كثيرون من مؤرخي الأدب ومعلمي الكتابة الإبداعية أن المراحل العمرية الأولى للإنسان هى مصدر إلهامه، وأننا لو فتشنا في طفولة وشباب كل كاتبٍ، لوجدنا منابعه.
إلى أيِّ مدى تحسب أنك قرأت تولستوي جيدًا أيها القارئ؟ هل فكرت يومًا من أين استلهم مؤلف الرائعة البديعة " الحرب والسلم " كل هذه الشخصيات التي تُقدِّر بالمئات؟ هل تريد أن ترى كيف يمكن للسيرة الذاتية أن تصير رواية؟ وكيف يمكن للرواية أن تصير قصةً حقيقيةً؟
هذا والكثير غير هذه الأسئلة ما ستجد جوابه الذى حرره الروائي العظيم ليف تولستوي في هذا الكتاب البديع، الذي يخطف قارئهُ من أول سطرٍ، فلا ينتبه إلا وهو يتمنَّى أن يكون للكتاب جزءٌ ثانٍ.

Later in life, he also wrote plays and essays. اخطاء بالجملة في الترجمة
لا ادري ترتيب هذه السيرة في كتب تولستوي، ولكن يبدوا انها كتابة مبكرة في شبابه، وبوادر نجاحه وتألقه كانت واضحة.
