The Queen’s birth was supposed to bring peace, but it only caused animosity between her and her husband’s Mistress.
Now, with the Àraid rising in the west, and enemies surrounding her in court, Cerynn is torn between her desire to strengthen her powers, and the maddening need to squash the woman distracting her husband from the war rising against them.
But conflict rules his mind, tormenting him with what must be done while filling him with longings from the past to confuse his loyalties.
“I never promised an easy path, but I promise to walk with you through the flames.”
The humans, the Àraid, and the Queen. What will the future hold no one knows. But nothing can stop from the breaking that's sure to follow. The King is rising and only those loyal to him will have a place when all is done. So take a deep breath coz you never know when it'll be your last.
What has Cerynn done to me with this book.I was warned beforehand that this book will ruin me but I wasn’t ready for what I read and the image my mind conjured. There was a point where I wept so bad and had to keep the book aside...BUT...the next chapter was even worse and it tore me apart. That was the only time I cursed the author. And you will too, that I promise.
✨ARC Review✨ Gosh where do I even start with this work of art. The theme of love in this book was SO beautiful. Not only love romantically but in a friendship and family sense. For each moment this book made me cry, my breath was also taken by how much the characters in this book were willing to sacrifice for the ones they loved, which is a beautiful message that will stick with me. Another incredibly beautiful and endearing part of this book was the strong theme of faith and believing in something bigger than yourself - and not necessarily in the traditional sense. I believe EVERYONE can benefit in having faith in someone or something, and multiple moments in this book made me feel joy and peace over my own faith. Plus the CHARACTERS in this book!!! These characters were brought to life so fully they are now living rent free in my head. They are complex, multi faceted and realistic. For every bad decision a character makes, they also make a good decision that will make you think twice about their personality and complicated history. And the PLOT TWISTS!!! This book does not lack action at all!!! As soon as I thought I knew where the story was headed, a new plot twist was revealed to throw me off course. And the ENDING!!! How am I supposed to continue like life is normal? If you’re someone who enjoys dark fantasy full of action, emotion, and an abundance of interconnected stories and characters then this book is absolutely for you!
I received a free eARC of this book, and this is my honest and voluntary review.
In Inscribed we continue to follow the lives of Cerynn, the General, Alice, the Captain, Christa and Sienna. After the Queen gives birth to the General’s ‘heirs’, life under the Generals control is changing and a war is beginning to rage.
(Before I start this review, I’d like to note that the author and one of the main characters share the same name - if I mention Cerynn McCain, she is the author. If I mention Cerynn, this is the Queen/character)
I cannot begin to express how much I LOVED THIS! It was the absolutely perfect continuation of the series - I was a little worried that after almost a year the first four books would be a little fuzzy to me, but after less than a chapter I was right back in Cerynn McCain’s incredible and incredibly messed up world. At the end of book four, I said I absolutely couldn’t stand Cerynn and would never forgive her for the absolutely twisted sh!t that she carried out in the last book - yet Cerynn McCain managed to twist my heart and make me weak at the knees and change my ENTIRE PERSPECTIVE! I also absolutely loved seeing Alice in a whole new light, as she was allowed to come into her own and flourish - along with the help of Sienna, the most courageous woman ever to exist. If I were to mention every character I’d run out of room very quickly - so I’ll just say that every character managed to show a different side to them, and every character arc has been absolutely incredible - I can’t wait to see what book 6 brings! The plot was absolutely incredible and it felt like every chapter there was another twist I wasn’t expecting, and I was hooked from the very beginning.
At 976 pages long, this took me just over 9 hours to read. I highly recommend the Abandoned Crown series to any fantasy/dark fantasy lover, especially those who love something a little bit twisted. This contains MULTIPLE scenes of an adult nature, including heavy violence and sexual content.
What a wild ride of emotions! I didn't want to put Inscribed down. All the twists and turns. My emotions swirling every which way. Wanting to reach thru the book to give a hug (or slap). Cerynn isn't just about writing a book to write a book she wants all your feelings involved and she gets them!
