One epic love story. From the first night they met, Rachel and Josh knew they were meant to be.
One life-changing moment. When Josh makes an extraordinary decision, the future that Rachel felt so sure about seems impossible.
One heart-breaking choice. Walking away from the love of her life is unimaginable. But with everything that's happened - and all that is to come - how can Rachel possibly stay?
Holly grew up in Bedfordshire, UK, and has been a bookworm for as long as she can remember. Her love of reading soon turned into a passion for writing, and from an early age she was filling notebooks and floppy disks (remember those?) with the stories she’d invented.
After studying creative writing at art school, Holly worked as a magazine editor, marketer and creative copywriter. Her love story The Sight Of You will be published in the UK and 23 other territories around the world in 2020, and has also been optioned for film by a Hollywood studio.
Holly lives in the Norfolk countryside with her husband and their rescue dog, a border collie. She is currently editing her second novel and has started work on a third.
Still Falling For You by Holly Miller … I find myself days later still in a state of emotional reflection that few het novels have managed to evoke in me (aka “wrecked me!”). This is truly an extraordinary piece of contemporary fiction—one that I can only describe as a bucketload of heartache balanced by an exquisite, life-affirming beauty.
I was captivated by the connection between Josh and Rachel. Their journey, starting as eighteen-year-olds at university, is written with such nuance and subtlety that they quickly became more than just characters, feeling entirely alive in my mind. Holly Miller has a remarkable ability to craft a sweeping, gorgeous love story while maintaining a high-concept edge (a single spec element to create that marvellous “what-if” story) that keeps the reader perpetually invested. The central dilemma—centered on a family medical trait and a radical, life-altering treatment—presents a fascinating exploration of love and mortality that is both unique and breathtaking.
The emotional depth of this book was staggering, I thought. I found myself alternating between laughter and tears, moved by the poignant prose. Several reviewers have compared it to One Day and The Notebook, and I think that’s fair, at least in terms of the former, which I’ve read and I adore. It possesses that same epic quality but is fully original and perfectly executed in its own right. There is, too, here, bravery in the writing that forces you to consider your own choices and the pursuit of happiness versus the weight of true love.
Frankly, Still Falling For You is a triumph (to use the cliché, sorry). Exquisitely written, incredibly moving, and impossible to put down. For anyone looking for a story that is painful, broken, but uplifting (and thus “perfect”) all at once, I cannot recommend this highly enough. A good contender for the love story of the decade even? A book needs to hit the zeitgeist for that. But this might just catch a huge wave.
Thank you to the author, the publisher, and to NetGalley for the opportunity to cry and laugh (and cry and smile thru your tears) with this ARC.
I can’t decide, Still Falling For You is either this year’s most epic love story or the year’s greatest tragedy. Well the novel’s a tragic love story let’s keep it at that and yay for me that this happens to be be one of my favorite genres!
The men in Josh’s family all die before their 31st birthday so naturally Josh feels the clock ticking. But then a genius friend invents a pill that will keep his body in prime condition so he has a chance to beat this curse. Can you blame him for wanting to take the pill and not risk dying in the next year? Unfortunately his wife Rachel doesn’t want to be experimented on and take the second pill, she certainly doesn’t want to live forever and she decides there is no future for them this way and they better split up.
This all happens at the start of the novel and what follows is a year by year account of what happens in Josh’s and Rachel’s lives. Did each make the right decision? They are drawn to each other time and time again as if they can’t be without each other but Rachel has made her choice… and with each passing year Rachel grows visibly older and Josh is still his youthful self. Their window of opportunity is getting smaller and I felt it ticking by, years were gone in minutes. Can they still find their way to each other or will it be too late? Can you see how tragic this already is and I can tell you it only gets better (or worse depending on how you look at it) !
In truth I felt that Rachel made some questionable choices, not least for deciding not taking the pill and for not wanting to stay with him even though he did. I’m not entirely sure why she thought they couldn’t have a family this way. If you love someone you make it work and it always felt as if she didn’t love him enough so the love balance in this story was a bit uneven for me and I was all #teamJosh.
The ending was bittersweet and made my heart ache. Maybe not my absolute favorite book by Holly Miller but it was quite an interesting concept and I did enjoy seeing how one defining moment in a life had such big consequences.
I never really took to either of the main characters, unfortunately. I especially hated Josh because of the action he took, which caused the heartache for both of them. That bit happened too quickly for me too; one minute he thought he was dying, the next minute he took the measure that changed both lives forever. And I wondered about there being no comments made about his change of appearance, especially when he became a teacher. That said, once the book became set in the future, I started to enjoy it a lot more, and felt the story reached a satisfactory conclusion, though I did wonder what would become of Josh afterwards.
Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for this ARC
A romantic story that is unlike anything I’ve ever read before! Such a thought-provoking premise that is so different from anything I’ve seen in fiction before, but so wonderfully executed. A story that pulls on the heart-strings and really makes you wonder what happens to Josh after the book ends. It was such a superb book for some well needed escapism from the world. Highly recommended!
3.5* Couldn't warm to the leads, nor really suspend disbelief quite enough to buy the premise of the tale.
So, in order to believe this tale, you have to suspend disbelief in a big way. I'd been thinking 'cryogenics!!' but it was both simpler and yet far more complicated. Once that was out of the way, there were niggles, still, but I wanted to see if it was a love story and what would happen. I'd have liked to know what Wilf told his partner at the end of the tale, as that was a potential for cheating if he didn't confess.
I'm not sure I liked the leads, though I understood Josh's fears. We never know if they were unfounded or not, but the author redeemed him in the ending, which I didn't see coming, and which, SPOILER.....
... involves cheating. Not sure that worked for me, because both leads moved on really quickly after their split, despite their Big Love and Rachel had her own agenda, with Lawrence simply a means to an end, it felt. And the guy she ended up with for 17 years felt like someone else who'd been 'loved' and used by her. END OF SPOILER.
How not a single person, friend, fan or Fred Bloggs, commented on Josh's lack of ageing over the 35-or-so years that the book spans, was never explained. The guy was in the public eye, had released a book that was a major hit, that took 10 years to make it to the big screen, and still no one clocked? A bit Twilight-ish, though without the constant moves to hide his lack of ageing.
The ending was both well done and sad. Very realistic and done organically. This was the only bit that made me feel for the leads. Until then, it kind of sounded like both had had enough of their own cakes and had eaten them, to have had a satisfying life with the other always on the periphery. For me, sadly, this wasn't the Big Love Story that the blurb made me think it'd be, but it was a decent read with a great cast of loyal friends.

From the moment Rachel and Josh meet they know they are meant to be. Josh is living I fear, as no man in his family has lived past the age of thirty. When this birthday approaches he makes an extraordinary decision, he is offered a treatment that might save his future with Rachel. However the consequences of this means the future Rachel was sure about feels impossible. Walking away seems unimaginable. But after everything, how can she stay?
This is my first Holly Miller book but I have heard great things about her other stories so was keen to give one a go. I was also really drawn into the concept of this one, as I love a romance with a unique spin and this was certainly that. Although slow moving at times, this ended up being a thought provoking and beautiful story. It ended up a compelling read, feeling scarily real at times, despite the subject matter being far fetched.
A large part of this is a character study of the two main protagonists and their relationship with one another throughout the years, being told in both voices. Both characters were strongly written and felt authentic. I felt that I could easily picture their thoughts and deep connection with one another. However at times, some actions don’t make complete sense and may be there more for the stories sake.
Even if heartbreaking at times, this was an interesting, emotional read overall and worth a read for those looking for a romance with a difference. I will certainly be looking at other books by this author now that I have read this. Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for this copy in return for an honest review.
Told as a dual POV of Josh and Rachel and over a 50 year period, this is a love story.... with a twist!
If you could take a pill and live forever, would you?
Struggling author Josh lives every day in fear. No man in his family has lived past 35, so when his best friend gives him a pill with the promise, he will never age and stay the exact same as he is the minute he takes it, Josh has a big decision to make.
He thought his wife Rachel would be totally for it, but he was wrong. They decide to wait a while and see if Josh can overcome his anxiety, but when an overwhelming feeling of death knocking on his door comes over him, without thinking, he takes the pill.
Life from that moment will never be the same again. His life unravels in a way he has no control over, losing everything he truly loves.
Josh has to stand by and watch Rachel ageing, growing old, whilst he stays the same, 29 forever.
While the plot may be completely unbelievable, far fetched, and slightly ridiculous, the love story behind it was so beautifully written, and the message behind it all shines neon bright throughout... 'One small decision can change your life forever!'
One thing did niggle... not one friend, colleague or family member seemed to comment, remark or even take notice of Josh's unchanged appearance over 35+ years 😅
With a unique premise, wonderfully written storyline and suspense of reality, this was a real page turner.
Huge thanks to Netgalley and Hodder & Stoughton for the ARC.
Holly Miller’s debut, The Sight of You, is a book I still recommend so frequently, years after reading it. So it was with great trepidation that I started to read Still Falling For You. I was nervous that it was impossible to live up to the high expectations I had.
Rachel and Josh meet in 1998, and they both instantly feel the spark between them. As the years pass, they are secure in everything in their lives, but there is one uncertainty hanging over their heads. This is where their enduring, beautiful story begins.
Very quickly, I became emotionally invested in Rachel and Josh. As the story progressed, I was very aware that the author held my heart, she was controlling my emotions tightly. After the devastation she caused me in her first book, I knew the outcome was likely to leave me red eyed.
Holly writes with so much emotional depth. I felt empathy and warmth for many of the characters, apart from one, who made me so angry; I wanted to reach into the book and give them some home truths, they made my blood boil! These aren’t just characters, they were alive in my mind.
Holly has an innate ability to reduce me to a puffy, sobbing mess. You WILL need tissues, no question about it. Whenever I hear River, by Joni Mitchell, I will think of Rachel and Josh. I have just added it to my Christmas playlist, the song is equally as beautiful as this book. I need not have been worried about reading this book, it is as gorgeous as The Sight of You.
What a fabulous book this is and one that I thoroughly enjoyed reading. I love a feel good romance and one with some tragedy thrown in is always a bonus. This has plenty of both with some suspension of belief required, but believe me it’s worth it.
Josh and Rachel have been childhood sweethearts and seem like the perfect couple. All the men in Josh’s family have died at a young age and when a friend develops a pill to suspend the aging process Josh takes it one night, not consulting Rachel, as he fears for his life. This decision changes both of their futures.
We follow Josh and Rachel as she ages and he doesn’t and the relationship between them changes, the gap in their ages growing . Sometimes years go by without contact however they still secretly love the other.
This is a hugely sentimental and emotional read which I absolutely loved and would have no hesitation in recommending. The characters are well developed and the plot, although perhaps far fetched, was beautifully written and a joy to read.
Thanks to Netgalley, the author and the publisher for the opportunity to read this book in exchange for an honest review.
This was a really frustrating read for me! I enjoyed the concept, the writing style, and the structure of the story. But there was just so much that I couldn’t quite engage with. I struggled with the main characters and felt like I should’ve enjoyed them more than I actually did.
A lot of the story felt rushed and aspects felt like they were closed down quickly without making reference to them again (the people that were pursuing him for the pill, Wilf, Andrea, etc.). Some parts of the book I just wanted more from.
Whilst being set in our lifetime it felt like the story started to address some of the inevitable questions that would be asked about such a pill, but then stopped discussing this or the side effects of the pill in any realistic sense.
I found myself wanting for more in some parts and even in the ending. There was a lot of potential for a really robust ending but I don’t think we quite get this.
It’s a heartbreaking ending to a lovely story and I think there are some important life lessons throughout around aging, love, and family.

Considering I sobbed at the end of this book I feel like it should be a higher rating but also I’m not sure, I couldn’t gel with the book in the beginning, I found I couldn’t connect with the characters and it was a bit slow for me which is why ultimately I’ve given it 3.5 stars.
It’s hard to imagine ever being in the situation Josh and Rachel find themselves in this book. Yet oddly, I can visualise such a thing being created. What I enjoyed is how it affected their lives and you saw the two characters go through all the changes that faced them and how decisions were made.
It wasn’t how I saw the book ending out though and the end was beautifully captivated and written which is probably why I couldn’t control my sobs.
I don’t want to dive too deep into this one but I thought the end was written well as it allowed you to feel what the characters were feeling.
Huge thanks to Netgalley and publisher for an e-arc of this book, all thoughts and opinions are my own.
Thank you to NetGalley and Hodder & Stoughton for allowing me to read an ARC of Still Falling For You by Holly Miller, in exchange for my honest review.
Wow! This book was phenomenal: beautiful, heartbreaking, and wonderfully bittersweet. It’s one of those thought-provoking stories that sticks with you long after you’ve turned the last page. The love between Rachel and Josh feels deeply all-encompassing and genuine, and the connection they share really pulled me in. The writing is lovely and well-crafted, and I didn’t want to put it down — even though I also didn’t want it to end. Emotional and unforgettable, this is exactly the kind of big love story that stays with you. Highly recommend if you love emotional, epic romance.
I was fortunate to receive an ARC of this book from Hodder & Stoughton and Netgalley.
Josh and Rachel meet at university and it seems they have found the One. But then Josh's friend tells him he might have found a cure for Josh not to die at 30 like the rest of the males in his family. You can viscerally feel Rachel wrestling with the decision as to whether to join Josh. Each makes their own decision and the rest of their lives are determined by the consequences of the decisions.
The ending was beautiful and had me crying. Feeling grateful for the love I have and wondering what the rest of our lives will look like. Definitely one to read if you're in the mood for a weepy!
My favourite quote: "I feel loss blow through me, sharp as a winter wind."
None of the men in Josh's family live past 30, so when he is offered the chance of treatment to freeze his life at that age, and remain 30 forever, he can't say no. Wife Rachel is also offered the chance to take the pill, and remain young with Josh - what will she decide?
The story follows Josh and Rachel's lives as they face the fall out from their decisions, and the author give us a book packed full of life, love, loss and betrayal. The book was one of conflicting emotions for me - I loved the idea of the story, but I really couldn't understand Josh's actions a lot of the time. The story will definitely split the readership, some will be firmly team Josh and others will be firmly team Rachel. Very thought provoking, an interesting and enjoyable read.
I'm not sure how I can review this without spoilers. The synopsis doesn't give anything away about the story lines, and so I won't either. It's essentially a love story. A married couple who love each other deeply, but one makes a decision, and the other walks away as a result. I will say this has an element where you need to suspend disbelief in order to enjoy the story. I found this was easily done. I've read all of Holly Miller's books and loved them all. This was no exception. A lovely easy to read story that is funny in places but also very sad. I especially loved it because, like the main characters, I was also born in 1970.
I really struggled to get into this book, the beginning felt boring at times and i felt as though i only got into it towards the end. The story was beautiful but I felt no connection to either josh or rach.
It’s beautifully written, i love a duo pov and i love that we see them throughout the years. I loved the message throughout the book and how one decision can completely change the trajectory of your life. Seeing Rachael grow old, her and josh staying in contact for all those years and then seeing him support her when she’s older, it was really sweet.
The ending was beautiful, i sobbed so much and it really made the book for me.

An interesting and unusual love story about Rachel and Josh, who are happily married but Josh worries that he faces an untimely death. The men in his family have never lived past 30 and he is fast approaching this momentous birthday. He is offered the change to take a pill which will halt the ageing process and keep him 29 for eve, but this goes against the wishes of Rachel his beloved wife. We continue to follow their lives over the decades and, while heartbreaking, it kept me guessing right up to the end as I had no idea what would happen to this tragic couple. A great read!
Josh and Rachel meet at University and from the very beginning know that they have a special bond.
However a few years into their marriage Josh has to make a huge decision about his future due to his family history. Will he make the right decision or will his life as he knows it be torn apart.
Holly Miller creates amazing characters who drag you into a story that makes her books hard to put down.
I loved Still Falling For You and highly recommend it. Just keep the tissues handy.
This was fantastic. I was drawn to the book by its unique premise, and it didn't let me down! I loved the way the story was told over a 50 year period, and I felt like we got to know the characters so well during this time. I really enjoyed the writing style and how well-developed the characters were.
The story was thought-provoking and, at times, heartbreaking. I loved it and would definitely recommend it.
A slow start, a unique twist and an ending that tore me in two.
Still falling for you is a bittersweet love story that spans a lifetime. Its unique, well written and it was impossible not to get caught up in the lives of Rachel and Josh.
Great writing and good supporting characters cast aside my doubts and questions and let me just immerse myself in the storyline.
My thanks to Hodder & Stoughton for the early read, all opinions expressed are my own.
I didn't think Holly Miller could ever hurt me as much as she did with The Sight of You.
I was wrong.
A beautiful love story told over the course of a lifetime, filled with passion and heartbreak, joy and hope, loss and regret. A box of tissues is a must, but this is a read you could never regret. Miller remains one of my most eagerly anticipated authors.
It feels odd to thank someone for tears, but massive thanks to Hodder & Stoughton, to NetGalley and to Holly Miller for the chance to read an arc ahead of wider publication - a privilege I don't take for granted.
I’ve sat on this a couple of days before reviewing, I love Holly’s style of writing and her other books have been some of my favourites but this one just didn’t make me feel the same way.
Whilst I initially enjoyed this book, the ending just felt to abrupt and I’m left wondering what happened to Josh in the future, sad for all that wasted time and I was left feeling annoyed 🤷🏻♀️

an amazing book will a fabulous storyline! it’s a story of love, loss, betrayal and regrets. it follows a couple where one of them is doomed to die young but what if you can change that? is it worth risking everything?! a great read
