Cameron Curtis has spent thirty years on trade floors as a trader and risk manager. He was on the trade floor when Saddam’s tanks rolled into Kuwait, when the air wars opened over Baghdad and Belgrade, and when the financial crisis swallowed the world. Having written fiction as a child, he is the author of the Breed action thriller series.
Blowback is another great actionfilled thriller from Cameron Curtis. This time Breed has to hunt down a rogue Ukrainian group that has stolen a nuclear device. Will he and his boss Anya Stein from the CIA get to them in time? This is another well written story and to my surprise one of few books nowadays that has different statistics about the ongoing war. I was hooked from the first few pages and stayed up way past my bedtime to finish this great book. I must once again thank Inkubator Books and Netgalley for supplying me with this advance copy
You'd think by Book 10, Cameron would have run out of steam by Book 10.... but, oh boy... you would be so, so wrong.
In this book, Breed is once again dropped amongst yet another crisis, but this time, it's a different country and a whole different problem!
My very first Breed book was Book 9, and so I can wholeheartedly say that I happily read as a standalone. This doesn't mean that I won't be reading from Book 1, of course... I need my Breed fix!
Breed is just Breed... extremely clever, motivated, loyal, and can just respond perfectly to any negative action. The introduction of Ellie was also a brilliant one, she offered a different side and was incredibly clever... her age aside.
There are echoes of the past in this book, and from the moment you begin, Cameron just throws you right in the centre of the action, and it's just go go go from there.
It's an utterly fantastic book of which I will be going now to read Book 1-8 in the series!
Way above average action thriller from author Cameron Curtis. No wasted words or unnecessary scenes, just the right length - this Breed adventure is also excellent as a stand alone.
Just curled up with a good book and couldn't put it down. Read it all in two sittings. Good story, looking forward to the next adventure. Still waiting for Stein and Breed to get together.
Blowback by Cameron Curtis. Breed Thrillers Book 10. I loved this book. I do love this series. Cameron books do not disappoint. Full of action. Great plot that is full of twists. It's a war story/road trip/special force thriller. I loved it. I read this in one sitting. I couldn't put it down. I had to know what happened next. I was rooting for Breed and Stein. Even the girl Ellie. It was like I was there watching everything happening. This was well-written and well researched. This is my favourite book in the whole series. I loved the car chase and when Stein and Breed meet Ellie in the underground. I would most definitely recommend this book
This has to be one of the most daring missions I have read Breed do since starting to read the series and this is the most exciting. An H-bomb has been stolen from Russia by the Vampir Brigade and Breed must find it before it is detonated! We are led on a journey through Ukraine, Brussels and Poland then New York, America. They are still hunting the Vampir Brigade but they could be anywhere in town. They learn a crate was missing from their delivery so ring a contact and announce it has been found. It works, he makes contact and they follow. This is an excellent read and there is some going into the army war zones at the start but it is so exciting and part of the story, I just gulped it all in and took it in my stride. The author is so knowledgeable it makes for a fantastic read and Breed is such a one man force to be reckoned with, a bit like Jack Reacher but uses more weapons! There is some technical jargon but it is usually explained so us mere mortals understand it. I like the storyline, in today’s world it’s not all that far fetched and could easily happen with all the wars in the world and the technology available. I like Breed as a character, he’s not just a fighter, he does have charm, chat and manners as well. Plus brains. I like the way the book is written and it is well plotted and appears to have been thought out well in advance of being written. I’m now looking forward to my next instalment of Breed.

This was a novel that I was fortunate enough to be granted an advance copy to read and review by the author (Cameron Curtis), his publisher (Inkubator Books), and the fine folks at Booksprout.
This thrilling tenth book in the Breed series pits the protagonist, an ex-Delta force sniper, who finds himself working in conjunction with the CIA in the battlegrounds of Ukraine.
Some historical background is given in this book detailing that before the dissolution of the Soviet Union in the early 1990s, Ukraine was a former Soviet republic that shared weapons and was part of the Soviet armed forces. The story also details how weapon systems are being sent to support the Ukrainian forces in their current conflict with Russia and how damaged weapon systems are being sent across the border to Poland to be repaired.
One of the former Soviet bases, Antonovka-15, is a Russian nuclear weapons storage facility located a mere fifteen miles from the Ukraine border where Topol-M hydrogen weapons. When an alt-right Ukrainian Special Forces unit – the Vampir Brigade - breaks in and steals an H-Bomb, Breed is tasked with finding it before it can be detonated.
Breed and the CIA’s Anya Stein follow the bomb on a journey through war-torn Ukraine and on to Brussels. The initial thought is that the Vampirs are smuggling the weapon to Brussels in an attempt to convince the NATO forces to commit more support to Ukraine. Are the Vampirs planning to destroy NATO HQ and the European Commission?
After tracking Marchenko and his select team of Vampirs to Brussels in their search for the missing thermonuclear weapon and car chases through the streets of Brussels. Breed and his CIA controller, Stein, find that Marchenko's real plan is even more horrifying.
After surviving multiple attacks by the Vampirs, Breed and Stein find the bomb has been shipped to New York. The Vampirs threaten to incinerate the city if the United States did not commit ground troops to fight Russia.
With the help of Ellie, a young homeless girl, Breed and Stein fight the Vampirs through black 19th-century tunnels thirty stories below the streets of modern Manhattan. Ellie leads Breed to the bomb - and a terrifying climax with the lives of eight million innocents hanging in the balance.
On a five-star scale, I would easily give this tenth book in the Curtis' Breed series an easy four stars and believe that this book would be a definite favourite of fans of thrillers. This debut, heart-stopping thriller had me on the edge of my seat from start to finish. Perfect for fans of Jason Kasper, Jack Carr, and Lee Child.
As with all my literary review, this is just my five cents worth.
Action-packed chase that leads Breed and Stein on a multi-country chase as they seek to find a stolen nuclear missile and make sure it is not used maliciously ~ Couldn’t put it down
What I liked: * Breed: intriguing, strong, lethal, intelligent, ex-military, sniper, excellent and varied skills, independent contractor, battle-scarred, survivor, attractive to women, someone I would like to have as a friend and definitely would want in my corner if in trouble * Anya Stein: assistant CIA Director, intelligent, experience in field work, strategic thinker, capable, dedicated, intriguing, wealthy, good communicator, diplomatic * Ellie: teenager, on her own, survivor, lives in underground New York, helpful, intelligent, independent, capable, protective, someone I would like to see again * The plot, pacing, setting, and writing * That the story is current politically and worth contemplating – brings enough fact into fiction to give me pause * That though focused on an invasion in the country I live in and there were triggers in this story that made it difficult to read, I found that once I got past my situation, I couldn’t put it down * The slow-burn of what may or may not eventually happen between Breed and Stein * Wondering what will happen in the next book * All of it except…
What I didn’t like: * Who and what I was meant not to like * Thinking about wars and how much damage they do with lives lost, land damaged, mental & physical trauma, and the fact that both sides in a war are usually fighting for what they believe is right…
Did I like this book? Yes Would I read more in this series? Yes
Thank you to the author, Inkubator, Booksprout, and NetGalley for this ARC ~ This is my honest review.
I received an ARC through "Booksprout" and I am voluntarily leaving an honest review.
The story begins with Breed and Stein meeting in Russia regarding the disappearance of a nuclear bomb taken by an alt-right Ukranian military unit. The action was performed by using the regular Ukranian army as a decoy why this other group moved in. The meeting outlined the escape route the group took as they left with the bomb. Breed and Stein's mission was now to find the bomb.
Their travel took them thru Ukraine and then into Poland. In Poland they learned that the bomb had been flown to Brussels. Stein, a Deputy Director at the CIA, eventually learned where the bomb was a made plans to recover it. A Team was assembled and they struck. Unfortunately, when they located the bomb, only half remained. As the two were leaving, they wound up being attacked by the alt-right group. One thing they had learned was that the bomb was on its' way to NYC.
They then learned once they were in NYC that the bomb was located in the tunnels running under the city. They discovered this by following the Ukrainian Ambassador when he went to meet the leader if the alt-right group. As Stein and Breed were leaving, they were spotted by two sentries. They were able to escape with the assistance of a young teenage girl. The next day, the alt-right leader gave the U.S. an ultimatum to do, or he would explode the bomb. The task now was to stop the group before they could detonate it.
To discover where the bomb was located, what force Breed and Stein employed, how the teenager helped and what happened in the end, then you need to read this book. You won't be disappointed!
I have enjoyed several of the Breed novels and I think the main thing, after the action and pacy plots that make these fantastic is the realism. I adore that they often include schematics, maps or notes that relate to the text. I also love that they can be read standalone. Obviously, I would recommend reading the whole lot of them but you can just as easily start midway through!
Breed is back again and he’s on top form. Curtis has a knack for getting your pulse rating but at the same time getting you invested in the characters. Sometimes with action and thrillers the action comes at the expense of character development but I adore that’s not the case with Curist and Breed.
I won’t spoil anything but I will say this one had me hooked right from the start. You can expect the usual (not for the plot) but I mean all the good things; great pacing, thrilling action, numerous new and returning characters and a story that’s bound to get you hooked and want to read more. I can’t wait to see where the next Breed adventure might take us!
As always thank you to ZooLoos Book Tours for my copy. My review is always honest, truthful and freely given.
My thanks to the publisher, the author and NetGalley for this review copy.
A solid, action-packed thriller that keeps you engaged from start to finish. Breed is a great protagonist, and the stakes couldn’t be higher. The villains are a bit underdeveloped, but the book more than makes up for it with its non-stop action and tight plot. Even if you haven’t read the previous books in the series, this one works perfectly as a standalone. It’s a fun, fast-paced read with just the right mix of thrills and political intrigue. If you’re a fan of military thrillers, you’ll definitely want to check it out.
For a 10th book in a series Blowback is an absolute wild ride from start to finish for all fans of fast-paced action, tense political dramas and a true blue hero who knows how to kick ass, this one’s for you.
The story picks up with Breed and a CIA agent Anya Stein, who are on a mission to track down a stolen hydrogen bomb. The bomb was taken by a Ukrainian special forces group called the Vampir Brigade, and their plan is to detonate it somewhere in New York City unless the U.S. commits troops to fight Russia. The book takes you on a high-stakes journey across Ukraine, through Brussels, and into the heart of Manhattan, with plenty of twists along the way. The pacing is relentless, so just when you think things might slow down for a breather, there’s another action-packed moment to pull you back in. Cameron has got his heroes right, Breed is tough, smart, and capable with a distinct soft human side to him that makes you want to have his back. Anya is a great partner for him, smart and tactical, and their dynamics keeps you hooked. There is a feeling of something more cooking. Ellie, a young homeless girl but with street-smart toughness that makes her a great addition to the team. It's he villains that leave behind some expectations. The Vampir Brigade, are menacing, but seem like paper tigers or cardboard cutouts. They needed to be injected with a little more depth. They're dangerous, but sometimes feel more like a plot devices than fully fleshed-out characters. Still, the threat they pose is real and keeps the tension high.
This is a gripping, high-stakes thriller that will keep readers hooked, with a few small hiccups in the villain department. Overall a fast thrilling ride. Recommended.
I have proudly read ALL ~ the ‘Breed’ novella! To say they are absolutely superb is an understatement.
Cameron Curtis is a ‘master writer’ no less. The research, points of accuracy in each book are astounding. Breed is an ultimate character!
I really wanted to complete a review of the one, where Breed is on vacation in France. Then ends up helping a certain‘girl in distress’… This is up there with my top favourite Breed stories! Being asked to pick a favourite, is a bit like being asked whether you prefer Jack Daniels or Jameson Black barrel…
Blow Back, is yet another white knuckle rollercoaster of a ride, from Eastern Europe, back to State side- with Breed and Stein against the clock. As the odds count down against them. Curtis knows exactly how to ramp up the tension!
From start to finish- this is a sure fire winner, once again!!! I am over zealous to read the final one in the series hereafter.
You know a master writer, when you are still thinking, digesting the very material after you have completed the journey. This is so with the Breed series! One can only hope that Cameron Curtis will continue his writing streak- if it be via Breed, or another character he creates. Outstanding to say the least! ‘Slow is smooth’.
I love the Cameron Curtis Breed books and waited eagerly for this one. As a novel it doesn’t disappoint, however it is also a blatant piece of Pro-Putin propaganda, painting Ukraine as a country with a weak leader being controlled by shady fascist elements, a view only held by Putin. It talks of an exhausted demoralised Ukranian army, atrocities committed by them and other blatant falsehoods such as elderly and children beibg used as cannon fodder . The Russian’s are portrayed as the liberating heroes and the Ukranians portrayed as the aggressors. It talks of war crimes on the Ukranian side while depicting Ukranian schools and hospitals as legitimate targets because Ukraine billets soldiers there. Again an unproven claim made by Putin to explain away war crimes. No doubt it will be defended as fiction but the author clearly researched the position in Afghanistan in other books to give an unbiased view of the situation and yet this is a blatant piece of propaganda. Hugely disappointing.
The book opens with Breed and CIA's Anya Stein at the Russian/Ukraine border chasing a missing Hydrogen bomb stolen by a Ukrainian zealot group. They are given info by Orlav from Russia's military with help tracking down this Russian bomb.
They follow it thru various countries and end up in NY. They are threatening to detonate this in order to force NATO and the US to join the fight against Russia.
Will Breed, Anya and a teenage girl be able to stop the detonation? We are given a lot of history on the NY tunnel system which ties in nicely but how did the Ukranians get the info? Breed does get help from a few special forces teams but in the end, he saves the day.
This is another edge of your seat thrilling read in this series. Breed and Stein start off in Ukraine, and when a nuclear warhead is stolen, they track it to Brussels and then to New York.
As usual, it's non-stop action and this time Breed enlists the help of a teenage girl Ellie who is one of the multitude of people living in the underground tunnels. I found this quick and easy to read as usual. It's another winner in my book.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
A well written, military thriller with fascinating characters and edge of your seat action. Breed is an interesting hero and the action is almost non stop. I'm not much into the detailed descriptions of all the weaponry but if that is your interest, this is the book for you. This is the 10th book in the series. I have not read the previous books but it did not hinder my enjoyment of this one. It can easily be read as a stand alone. Strongly recommended
Thanks to NetGalley and Inkubator Books for an advanced reader copy.
This book was different than I expected. The first half was so slow and barely held my attention I wondered if I would even finish it. The second half however was a true thriller and a joy to read. I would have given this 5 stars if only the first half that took place in Russia was as captivating as the second half. This was my first book in the series, I didn’t realize that until after I finished it. I might have to go back and read the others.
I voluntarily reviewed an Advanced Reader Copy of this book.
This book was so fun to read, I had to slow read it a bit… But when the action really got going, I couldn’t help myself and had to devour it to the finish. Have to say that I really enjoy the author’s writing style with the quick wit, and subtle nuances. If you are looking for a great series to jump into next—Do yourself a favor, start at the beginning and enjoy the ride!
This is a well written action story, very fast and generally entertaining. What I don't like are the somewhat twisted realities, especially in the beginning, putting Ukraine in a negative light. Remember, Ukraine has been assaulted by Russia, where there is no free press and the people are imprisoned if they call the "special operation" a war.
I love this series, and Blowback is no exception to the rule. Yes I am aware that there are certainly discrepancies, errors and lots of stuff that is improbable. However, this is a work of fiction, and I want to be dragged into a story, to feel the urgency and suspense.... Big win. This is an on the edge of your seat read. Loved it.
I have read all of the Breed Thrillers books in order and have never been disappointed. As usual, the book had lots of action. The fact that the Russian invasion of the Ukraine is still taking place made this book even more alarming. A big thank you to the author Cameron Curtis and from me a well deserved 5 stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
this was a wonderfully done novel, it had that concept that I enjoyed from the previous entries. The characters had that feel that I was looking for and thought the overall concept was strong. It uses the thriller element perfectly and was glad I was able to read more.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Thrilling and exciting adventure that will keep you hooked until the end. There are so many twists and turns in the story that it keeps it interesting. The characters have unique personalities that will help them try to win against the enemy. Edge of your seat reading and hard to put down. Good read.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Thoroughly enjoyed this offering from Mr Curtis. I'm sure these are getting better and better throughout the series. My only negative point is I've reached the end in the series at this point!!! Great work, super entertaining and a reverting read from begging to end.
I thought the middle of the book dragged a bit, but the action over the last couple chapters made up for it. The book was full of historical information about the NYC under underground. If its remotely accurate it's pretty cool. Definitely worth the read.
Another good one for Breed!!! Everything started in Ukraine... but it moves across Europe to a final destination (by the way, some pictures at the beginning of the book can spoiler that final destination, don't look at them). The final situation reminded me "The Rock" film (starred by Nicholas Cage and Sean Connery) :-P
Let me start by saying Breed thrillers are the bomb it's a real goosebumps close calls with descriptions so spot on you'll see it in your mind's eye the infiltration of the enemies sites will send a chill up your back. Blowback will not only knock you off your feet it will also blow your mind.
Thriller is an understatement! Cameron Curtis delivers yet again with Blowback and it's a great one. Breed is hunting down a Ukrainian group that has stolen a nuclear device. Amy and Breed are trying to hunt them down before it's to late.
