Believe In Me

Rate this book
The Croyants des Trois are a powerful clan of telepaths and healers, and Felix Valasay, as gifted in magic as he is in seduction, is the black sheep of the family...For a Croyant, Felix Valasay lives a charmed life of sensual excess, so he's less than thrilled to be interrupted mid-hookup by notorious Croyant straight arrow, Sayblee Safipour. She'd been the smart one in their magic classes, the one he couldn't win over with a smile or a compliment or twelve, the one he'd wanted so desperately. Now he has the chance to wake up to her beautiful, calm face, to smell the sweetness of her skin, to be this close to those maddening curves...Figures Sayblee would find Felix 'entertaining' when they have important Council business to attend to - setting a trap in Paris for the most dangerous, powerful sorcier their world has ever known. To do that they will need to hide in plain sight, living together like an ordinary Moyenne couple, using no magic at all. Keeping her mind shut against the dark forces trying to find them is tough. But keeping Felix's hot body out of her thoughts is nearly impossible. Sometimes the only way to avoid temptation is to yield to it...

Believe in Me by Jessica Inclan is a quick, sweet romance.

Believe is certainly not my typical read. The novel reads a lot like a contemporary romance with sweet moments in a Paris parfumerie, baguettes and candlelight, and suspicious goings-on next door.

Felix and Sayblee have magical talents, however, and a mission to take down an evil magician. Harry Potter for adults? The magic system here was a little vague and unbounded for me. These magicians can literally conjure anything they could wish from thin air, so it's a little hard to understand their panic or even their disadvantages at points. So far as I could tell, the big baddie just had more power-- which made the heroes' limitless magic a bit redundant. Element-based, spell-based, there didn't seem to be a rhyme or reason.

Magic aside, the real draw to this novel are Felix and Sayblee's realistic flaws and their overcoming them through their very modern romance. For example, when Sayblee and Felix have to conceal themselves among the local population, Sayblee teases Felix about his incompetence working at the local butcher. It hurts him. She learns that she has to see him as more than just a player.

Family also motivates these characters, Sayblee's brother -her best friend- betraying her, Felix's inadequacy beside his talented brothers. Fans of beta heroes will enjoy Felix. Long hair aside, he's very sweet. One of my favorite themes is childhood crush/reunion romance, so that was a nice treat.

These characters probably would have been stronger if the prose were a little more unique, albeit there were some shining moments, e.g. when the author describes Felix as a butcher by picturing for us a cartoon character. I could imagine him exactly.

All in all, this author's strengths are the ways she builds her characters and their relationships, and this makes for a lite paranormal and a charming, clean romance. I'm interested to read more from this author. I understand that her Beings series is quite different, so I think I'll take a look at that next. :)

My second favorite book in the series after When You Believe. I liked Felix and Sayblee together.

Felix Valasay, a Croyant Sorcier, lives a playboy life. The youngest of three brothers who has yet to open himself up to love. He is less than thrilled when he is interupted during one of his hook ups to go on an important mission.

Sayblee Safipour, a Croyant Sorciere, has always struggled with her magic of fire. Magic that she is ashamed of. Constantly teased by Felix when they were children. Fire that is even harder to control in Felix's presence. The Croyant council insists that she is the one who has to go on an important mission with Felix to stop the enemy. An enemy who has taken her brother from her.

Quain is a powerful evil Croyant Sorcier who is trying to destroyed both the Croyant way of life and the Moyenne's, though who do not have magic. He will stop at nothing and will destroy anyone who is in his way.

In order to stop Quian felix and Sayblee go to Paris undercover as a Moyenne couple. They have to remain cut off from all of their magic. A life without magic is tough but even ignoring the growing attraction between them is worse. The day is filled with mundane ordinary work and spying but at night their dreams are filled with passion with each other. Dreams that they each keep from each other. Sayblee is convinced that there is an enemy in the apartment complex across from theirs. During investigating the possible threat they realize that they have not been completely shut off from magic as they thought, causing the enemy to close in on them. With Sayblee in the arms of the enemy Felix struggles with his feelings for her and the mission at hand.

A fast paced riveting story. Brimming with the knowledge that you can be loved for who you are

Believe in Me holds a special place in my heart because the story is set in Paris. Sayblee and her nemesis from childhood, Felix, have to go undercover as a moyenne couple by tamping down their magic to spy on the villains. Both started off as uneasy partners, awkward about their heady attraction towards each other, and confused about what they truly desire from each other … at first.

When Sayblee finally believes that Felix is serious this time round, the enemy has already caught up and laid a trap for them. The time round, Sayblee’s mind came under the control of Quain, and she unwittingly captured Felix’s two brothers and nearly helped Quain succeed at his evil plans. (Gee, I couldn’t help thinking of the Imperius Curse when I was reading this).

Of course, good eventually triumphs over evil, and the elder Les Croyants teamed up with the brothers to finally vanquish the villains. It was definitely a very satisfying finale for me and I was hugely entertained by their antics when they were undercover in Paris.

It helps that Inclan’s writing style is clear and descriptive, more so for fantasy/ paranormal works like these three, as the world she’s built must be totally believable and compelling to draw readers in and engage their imagination. In the creation of the world of Les Croyants, she has succeeded marvelously.

First read and reviewed in 2007.

My only regret after completing Believe In Me, the third volume in the Believe series by Jessica Barksdale Inclan, is that it is only a trilogy. I want to read more about Les Croyant des Trois, humans who can use magic. This volume is about Sayblee Safipour and Felix, the youngest Valasay brother. Sayblee and Felix are sent undercover to Paris by Adalbert Baird to live as Moyenne, humans without magic. Quain Dalzeil is moving his followers around the 7th Arrondissement in the Rive Gauche and Adalbert wants Croyant in the area to counter whatever Dalzeil has planned.

Magical story with a satisfying conclusion, but left open in such a way that the author could revisit the series in the future (we can only hope). Great characters including a egotistical villain, a heroine you would like as a friend, and a young protagonist who matures into a credible hero. Excellent ending to the trilogy.

I won this book from Jessica Inclan from goodreads, and I was so impressed. She sent it to me herself along with another book and I thought that was very nice. This was the first book I have read that she has written but, I really enjoyed her style of story telling. It was very interesting and kept you wanting more throughout the entire book. This was the third book in the series so I feel like I would have enjoyed it a little more if I had read the other two books first but, that being said I will now definitely go back and read them.

This was a great romance story with plenty of action. The characters were so easy to fall in love with and the story had a believable feel. I was sad to learn that this would be the last in this series as I enjoyed this one so much.

Thanks for sending this book to me Jessica! I am excited to read more from you!

I received Being with Him, as a contest giveaway. The author sent this title along with another I was looking to read something a little different and this struck my eye. Believe in Me is a true romance book with the added elmenet of magic and I enjoyed reading something different. The one downfall is this is the last installment of a trilogy. I really felt like I was missing some information because I read the last book first. I was unsure of the purpose behind ongoing conflicts and the relationship of some characters was confusing.. However, I do plan on reading the first two books in this trilogy.

When I first began this book I expected a beach-read type of romance novel. While it definitely has some (strong) aspects of this, I found that I got so caught up in the plot that I couldn't put down the book because I wanted to know what was going to happen next. It's an attention-grabbing story with several unexpected plot twists that kept me interested and invested in the characters. It left me happy and satisfied with its conclusion.

Really interesting story, and I loved the interaction between Sayblee and Felix - the two main characters. It was a little hard to follow with the different foreign names and objects (but I didn't make it easy on myself by reading the books out of order, either!).

I liked how it was a different kind of fantasy story - sorcery, moving through matter/time, harnessing power. Not your typical fantasy romance, and the ending was entertaining, but a little predictable ;o)

I won another of Ms. Inclan's books from goodreads, and she also sent this one along in the package. This was the first one I've read in this series, and I feel like I was missing a bit of the backstory.

That said, I did enjoy it. The story was enthralling and action-packed, and it definitely made me want to go back and read the previous books.

Thanks for sending it to me!

Even though this was the third book in the series, I found this to be a really great title. I had not read the first two books in the series, so I was a little concerned about reading this one first, but I didn't have any problems with picking up the story. I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a romance with a supernatural twist.

I think I'm going to have to read the first books in this series to finally "get" everything going on. Maybe it's just me, but I don't like coming in at the end of a tale...so I will reread this in the order it was meant to be read. I liked the premise and the characters, so I will say my curiosity was totally engaged :D

Not my typical read but it was a gift and at the time I was out of books to read. A little hard to follow at certain times throughout the book but I did enjoy it. I was disappointed when I found out, at least half way through the book, that it was a trilogy. It did not make a difference, the story line was still complete and worth a read.

I had not read the previous books, but this book contains enough references that it could be read alone. Totally different from the first book I read from this authot (which was her latest book), but I will go back and read more.

This was my favorite of the 3 books in this series. The story of Fleix and Sayblee was like how you want true life to be. This story just goes to show how you should never say never.

Táto posledná kniha sa mi z tejto séria páčila najviacej. Nechýbalo v nej napätie, romantika ani humor. Proste super na dlhé zimné večery :)
