Hiding in Plain Sight

Rate this book
When running for your life, the best plan may be to hide in plain sight. That's what Jordan thinks when fleeing from her abusive husband. A remote cabin in the woods in an even more remote part of the country is the haven she needs, a place to live her life in peace and solitude while guarding the secrets she must keep to stay safe.

Running from his own demons, Ben struggles to restart his life away from the twin brother who ruined his law career and life. Out of money and options, the house on the hill in a small town is the perfect place to lick his wounds and start over. Then she appears. Unable to shake his growing interest in her, he waits every day, watching for those few brief moments when she runs past.

Each with their own disastrous history, they aren’t looking for love until a quirk of fate ignites a romance neither of them dared hope for but all too soon can’t live without. It’s a second chance at happiness until a single bond from their respective pasts jeopardizes the love they share along with Jordan's life.

I was actually quite happy with this book - the storyline kept me interested and wanting to know more, the dynamic between the characters was pretty cute, the twin brother aspect added some good dimension

Jordan did get a bit annoying but I feel as though that was intentional to make us be frustrated with her

A titillating ride, “Hiding in Plain Sight” by Barbara Luker, is a delicious blend of romance and thriller. While reading the book, I had so many theories as to what was going to happen, and none of them turned out to be right. A testament to her creativity and expert storytelling, I was still guessing up until the heart pounding climax. Women’s fiction doesn’t always have to follow the same formula, and Luker has once again broken the mold with her unique blend of the two genres. With a relatable and sympathetic protagonist like Jordan Wheeler, readers will feel compelled to root for her at every turn. And of course don’t forget her trusty sidekick, Pete, whose growls act as a proxy for the readers who will surely be growling along with him. A refreshing read that I highly recommend to those looking for the perfect combination of wistful true love and heart stopping chills. —Lisa Febre, author of “Round the Twist” and “Welcome to the Bright”

Hiding in Plain Sight by Barbara A. Luker tells the story of desperation and sacrifice. Jordan is a woman on the run from her powerful, abusive husband. She hides in a small town by buying a run-down cabin in a remote area. She adopts a dog rumored to be vicious, which keeps the town’s people at bay. That’s exactly what she wants, for she’ll do anything to keep under the radar of her husband’s men out there searching for her. All goes well until an accident requires her to have others care for her. That’s when her life gets complicated and she finds it difficult to hide her secrets. Don't worry, after a suspenseful ending, there is a gratifying ending for Jordon. Hiding Plain Sight is a terrific book. ~ Connie Morgan, author of More Than Luck Required

What’s not to like about a love story steeped in danger with dash of thriller? Well written and well told, “Hidden in Plain Sight” will keep you on the edge of your seat as you follow Jordan Wheeler, a young woman who is living the high life until she is forced to flee and live a hidden life. Expecting to be exposed at any moment, Jordan is lured into a false sense of security until her past jumps out through the most unlikely connection. As the suspense builds, so does the action, until Jordan finds herself in a world of trouble. Who can she trust? Throw in a handsome, moody bachelor, well-developed physically, mentally, and soulfully, and you have the makings of a classic romance.
If you love romantic thrillers (and dogs), you’ll enjoy this one. I know I did. I’m already looking for the next book from author Barbara Luker. – Gin Coleman, Author of the Desert Born series

This new novel by Barbara Luker has all the elements fans of romance will appreciate: mystery, flirtation, suspense, frustration, passion, anger and ultimately, a great love story. I found myself feeling the feels of Jordan and Ben and that is when one knows they are hooked. Adding to its intensity is the emotional impact of the canine characters who do their part to flesh out the story in the most adorable ways. An engaging read….
