Snowed Under

Rate this book
SNOWED UNDER is an opposites-attract romantic comedy where a reserved single aunt and a confident children’s ski instructor partner together in an attempt to save a local ski lodge.

Madeline Sage has entirely lost who she is. After her brother and best friends passing, she’s left feeling as though they took her down with them. She’s an aunt taking care of their two kids, a nursing student, and a part-time cleaner at a ski lodge. Spending a majority of her time helping someone else out, she’s astray from who she was before the accident. Her nagging mother, incapable of helping with the kids, insists the one thing missing from Madeline’s already hectic life is a man. So Madeline seeks help from the most chaotic one she knows: her nephew’s coach. In hopes of easing her mother’s nerves about providing for the kids on her own, Madeline needs a boyfriend. Even if it’s a fake one.

Unfortunately, Cooper Graves knows all too well what he is. In an attempt to rectify his disorderly past and save his family ski lodge, he agrees to be interviewed by a well-known family magazine. The article will bring the lodge plenty of new exposure on its upcoming winter events. All he’s missing is a wife and kids.

Madeline needs a fake boyfriend. Cooper needs a fake family. In their chemistry-filled, strictly “professional” not-dates, they find there is much more to both of their stories. Their newfound friendship quickly blurs into something entirely real. Only he’s not fit for ‘uncle-hood’, and she can’t find a place in her heart or her schedule to add one more person to her circle of loved ones.

Snowed under their complications, Madeline and Cooper are destined to find out if love is enough to overcome tragedies of the past.

one thing remains certain: whenever I crave a wholesome read that perfectly balances endearing characters, realistic family dramas, and a beautifully written love story, I seek refuge between the pages of a Juliana Smith novel.

Snowed Under perpetuated my JS ritual of loving every corner and every word of the author’s plume. Madeline and Cooper, the protagonists, were absolutely attaching—as a couple and individuals,—with a hilarious meet-cute that drew me in. both characters had to deal with past demons, and I appreciated how their struggles were portrayed in an authentic manner. Madeline had the guardianship of her niece and nephew, and their presence in the storyline was absolutely perfect. I always love when children are featured in the day-to-day lives of the protagonists and how the bonds they share enhance the storytelling. the author did a brilliant job with that aspect, making the story even more enjoyable.

many thanks to NetGalley and the author for providing an e-ARC in exchange for an honest review!

After thoroughly enjoying book 1, I just HAD to dive straight into this holiday sequel…

THIS WAS A MILLION TIMES BETTER 😮🙌🏽😍💖✨

I am genuinely shocked at how much I enjoyed this book! There was so much more depth and complexity to both the characters and the plot than in the first book. I never wanted the story to end 😭 Although the sequel was not a ‘holiday book’, it had all the cozy comfort vibes you could wish for at this time of year 🥰

Snowed under is essentially an opposites-attract romantic comedy; emphasis on the comedy 😂 A hardworking single aunt/mum and a rather charming and confident children's ski instructor partner up in an attempt to save the local ski lodge ⛷️ The story follows on nicely from book 1, however I believe it could be read as a standalone. But, it was nice to see some action again from Olive and Finn 👀

Cooper is THE man 🙌🏽 I will happily admit that I actually didn’t really like him in book 1; he came across as a player. However, he was no such thing. This guy was the true definition of a loyal, and committed golden retriever. He was gentle, kind and absolutely hilarious! The banter between him, Madeline, the kids was laugh out loud kinda funny 🤣 Speaking of kids - the way he interacts with them was perhaps the sweetest thing I have ever read 🥹💖✨ He is everything you could ask for in a book boyfriend.

Madeline too was a very likeable and relatable character. At the beginning I didn’t expect I would ever relate to her so much, but hearing her talk about perfection burnout was remarkably accurate 👌🏽 Furthermore, she has the biggest heart and wears in on her sleeve. The way she takes on everything that is thrown at her and does it to the best of her ability is nothing short of amazing.

"Madeline Sage is, for lack of better terms, a keeper. Beauty is one thing, brains and humor are another. To keep this one sweet and simple: she is everything she thinks she’s not. And it is a pleasure to show her otherwise." 🥹💖✨

Watching this pair grow together from (practically) strangers, to great friends that go on not-dates, to the full embodiment of their relationship (🤐) was so heartwarming. I know this is just a book but I am genuinely so happy they found each other. Their chemistry was undeniable and it all felt so natural 😌

"She's my Madeline." He squeezed her hands and looked into her eyes. "I owe her everything." 🥹🩵✨

Finally, I have to mention the kiddies. This book would not be what it is without Mini Coop and Half Pint. I loved that they were central to the story and gave so many unique bonding experiences. AND as a huge Disney fan, I have to congratulate Coop for taking them all to Disney on Ice ⛸️ Well played, my man 👏🏽

“Someone wise once told me that who we are isn’t defined by our abilities but by who and what we love around us. You love those kids so much, I think you’d go to jail for them. Your value isn’t in how well you can handle the bad times. It’s in the amount of love you pour out into this family.” 🥲💖✨

Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed this book. I was surprised at the complexity of the plot which had many twists and turns. Furthermore, instead of a 3rd act breakup, we were treated to a snowed in scene - praise Juliana 🙌🏽 Snowed under by complications, Madeline and Cooper were destined to find out if love is enough to overcome tragedies of the past. Another well written book from one of my new favourite authors- Juliana Smith 🥰 💖 ✨

youve given me a new purpose. made me a better man in every way.

˚₊‧꒰ thoughts 🎿꒱ ‧₊˚
⤷ ugh this was the cutest read ever, and im so glad i chose it!! single mom, but shes actually their aunt. hes a children's ski instructor (which is such a cool job, AND WHEN THEY'RE GOOD WITH KIDS>>) anywhos everything about this was adorable i loved the kids in this one and our mmc (cooper) was such a delight and brought sm humor and laughter 🥹 the reason i originally picked this up was because i saw destiny sidwell read it, and she liked it! and i guess i did too <3 i dont read romance as much as i used to. but every time i do i SWOON and these stories always make me remember why im such a hopeless romantic ❤️‍🩹❤️‍🩹 anyway, i highly recommend!! this is the second book of "aspen peaks" but can be read as stand-alone. personally, i prefer this one, but id read both since you get cameos from book 1!!

˚₊‧꒰ characters ✨꒱ ‧₊˚
⤷ cooper (our mmc) OH THE MAN THAT YOU ARE!! ugh i just loved him so much. seeing him grow to love madeline and her little family was so wholesome. and the little things he did for them>>> hes such an acts of service kind of guy. always remembers the little things and i adore that🥹🫶 and he was just hilarious and such a flirt. also this is fake dating and has no third act break up (yay!) and as for clementine, i loved her too! shes been through a lot and im so proud of the person she became by the end. confident, sweet, and oh the epilogue has my heart! ALSO THEY HAD the cutest meet-cute evaa!! and shout out to charlie + piper (2 of the cutest kids ever, they added to the story) and now i wanna try skiing! cooper please teach me.

overall, i hope in the future others can read this and enjoy!! this came it in late november of this ear so i understand why it doesn't have too much recognition. you will def catch me recommending this every winter! and yeah, maybe this wasn't the most iconic or memorable book ever, but i had a wonderful time and it made me so happy. so happy reading everyone, i love you all have a happy new year!! 💗🎀

madeline sage was sunshine itself. not the kind of sunshine where, if you stood out of the shade for five minutes, youd have a sunburn. And certainly not the kind of sunshine that hid behind the clouds and barely peeked out. she was the form of sunshine that showed up after a bad rainstorm, the sun that made rainbows appear and made you look around and think there were a whole lot of good things in this life.

we could be like that taylor swift music video where they hold up signs to each other

we dont have a ton of time here on earth. so spend it doing something you love.

he would blast taylor swift in the care for me and dance as long as i begged him to. (talking about her brother)

DNF at 14% - I think this might be a case of wrong timing for this book, it's just not grabbing me and I'm forcing myself to pick it up. The characters are cute and the set up sounds good though so I may try it again another time to see if it works better then. As a note - some of the internal dialogue or internally quoting someone else aren't differentiated from the rest of the internal thoughts (no italics or quotes or anything), which does bug me when it happens in books.

Did I read the same book as everyone else so far who wrote a review? I feel like I read the wrong copy. I've been skimming through the reviews and I don't understand all the 4 and 5-star ratings. To be completely honest, the author saying that she wrote this entire book in a little over a month explains so much. She had 2 editors look over this book before it was published and it was somehow still riddled with grammatical errors and formatting issues, and that was one of my biggest gripes with it.

Don't get me wrong, it started off pretty strong and I was pulled into the story. But the more I continued to read, the more formatting issues and grammatical errors I found, and it made it seem as if the book wasn't even proofread or edited at all. For example, there was an entire chapter where the text was bolded for no reason. I have no idea why, but there was. Then there was “Niagara falls” instead of “Niagara Falls,” missing or misplaced commas, missing quotation marks, and this is just what I remember off the top of my head. It made the book almost unreadable and difficult to read at times and it’s not even like it’s a super long book. All of this made a 327-page book feel like I was reading a 500-page one because not only did the formatting and grammatical errors suck, it felt like nothing exciting was really going on at all.

I couldn’t stand Cooper aside from him wanting to bond with the kids and learning to love them. I have no idea how Madeline managed to fall in love with him when he can’t even do the bare minimum and learn people’s real names instead of giving them a nickname. He was also extremely pushy at times with Madeline which makes me believe that someone probably could’ve come up to her and asked her to blink twice if she was being harassed and needed help.

I honestly felt that the side characters were more interesting than Cooper and Madeline. It was nice to hear and read about Finn and Olive again, I loved Charlie and Piper, and I just wanted to punch Madeline’s parents for what they did to her (and yes, there’s a special place in fictional character hell for them).

So in conclusion: PLEASE, GET A GOOD EDITOR.

This book was a riot; lighthearted, heartwarming, with two fun kids and laugh-out-loud moments. At times, the hero was a bit too pushy, and the romance felt a little surface level, but the epilogue was sweet, though it could’ve been better.

I keep thinking about this book. For a Christmas book this was incredible, there was depth, romance, emotion, banter and adorable kids. I think I loved everything about this book and I can see myself rereading it next Christmas. The first one was great but this one was amazing!! However I do recommend both, they tie together perfectly and both are great books!

4.5 ⭐️

this book felt like sitting by a warm fireplace, all cozy and drinking hot chocolate, after a day of playing in the snow outside. Juliana Smith’s books always give me all the sweet, cozy feelings and I absolutely ADORED this one!!

Madeline and Cooper were so wholesome and sweet in every way. The way they looked out for each other and were there for each other, especially when the other didn’t even ask for it. I loved Cooper’s golden retriever personality and how he interacted with everyone with such kind, genuine affection and good-natured humour. The relationship he had with both Charlie and Piper was SO sweet!! I loved the ‘fake dating’ aspect of how it all started as well and how that continued into it’s own things as time went out. It felt super natural and authentic how their relationship developed!

A cozy, winter read full of skiing, fake dating antics, golden retriever mmc energy, and a sweet aunt with guardianship of her niece and nephew. a charming & pull-you-out-of-your-slump read for the winter season!! Thank you Victory Editing, NetGalley, and Juliana Smith for the eARC in exchange for my honest review. Snowed Under is out now (GO READ IT!!) 💜

HAPPY RELEASE DAY TO SNOWED UNDER 💜

Thank you so much to NetGalley, the publisher and Juliana Smith for providing me with an advanced reader copy for review purposes!

Snowed Under is the second book in the Aspen Peaks series, but don’t worry, you can read it even if you didn’t read Baggage Claim! I did and I enjoyed it just fine, and now I want to go back and check out book one so I can get to know Finn better!
The story follows Cooper, a ski instructor for his family lodge, and Madeline, a nursing student who also happens to be the legal guardian of her niece and nephew. It deals with grief, love and family in many beautiful ways. This book was entertaining, enjoyable and heartwarming. I loved seeing all the different characters grow and I loved following them in their own personal journeys. Each one of them, from our main characters to the kids, had little aspects of themselves they needed to work on and it was so nice to see them find the strength and the help they needed in each other. Now I want a Cooper Graves too, where can I find one??
The winter vibes were immaculate, I wouldn’t define this as a holiday read (even though there’s a bit of holiday spirit too!) but it’s definitely perfect for readers that are looking for a seasonal read.

Somebody pinch me because I think heaven just blessed me by letting me read the ARC of Snowed Under.

This book is everything I didn’t know I needed. It made me laugh, cry, break my heart, and fall helplessly in love — all at once. Truly, it’s a magical, unforgettable story.

I’ve always been a sucker for fake dating, and baby, this one delivered like a dream. The moment I realized the couple would be doing just that? Let’s just say my screams were not subtle.

Madeline and Cooper have stolen my heart and officially claimed the title of my new favorite couple. Their journey from strangers to friends to lovers is pure perfection. Watching them trust each other, lean on each other, and overcome their fears together was as heartwarming as it gets.

And Cooper Graves? Don’t even get me started. That man is a golden retriever in human form — funny, sweet, and everything I’ve ever wanted in a book boyfriend. He owns my heart completely.

The Aspen ski vibes and the lodge setting are the cozy winter dreams I didn’t know I needed. I’m officially in love with ski culture, and I need someone to teleport me there ASAP.

4.25 ⭐️ I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again - Juliana Smith’s books are like a warm hug.

Every time I pick up one of her romances I just know I’m about to kick my feet, cry a little, laugh out loud and never want to put it down. Snowed Under was no different. Cooper and Madeline start out with the absolute best meet-cute followed by a unique fake dating situation wrapped up in a single-mom trope. This book has everything and more! The only reason she’s not a 5-star for me is the middle-ish part was a little slow and disconnected for me. But I couldn’t put the book down through the last 40% and are you kidding me with the “Dada”?? Straight waterworks. Cannot wait to read more from this author!

4⭐️ ARC Review: I was not expecting for this book to make me emotional, but heavens to Betsy, it did just that. It was also delightful and funny and I loved it.

The characters were all so lovable. Cooper and Madeline. The kids! They were so dang cute. And added so much to this story. Cooper’s relationship with them was so heartwarming. I shed tears. Like what the heck. (you know what scene I’m talking about) Cooper was a goofy delight that brought the happy side to the story. And my goodness Madeline is one tough cookie! She went through so much. So much, and Cooper was there to help her through it. I loved their relationship. And honestly Cooper had some serious character growth. We love to see it.

Obviously this story wasn’t perfect. There were some things I wished were different. Like I wanted to be with them when they had there get to know you conversations. The author just explains them and I feel like I am missing the growth in their relationship.

But honestly, it was well done and I enjoyed it. The author writes books that are fun, but also have depth and serious aspects. Just what I like in a romance. So I thoroughly enjoyed it.

*Thank you to NetGalley, Juliana Smith, and Victory Editing, for the complimentary copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

This book warmed my heart! It was a wholesome winter read. Cooper gives golden retriever vibes! Madeline is a single aunt with guardianship over her niece and nephew. The kids play such a large roll in this book! It was warmed my heart reading about the relationships the kids had with May!

As a huge skier, I personally loved this book. Juliana Smith described the mountain and Cooper's ski lessons perfectly! It's the perfect book to read at this time of year! Makes me more excited for the ski hill to open!

Acts of service girlies STAND UP!! Cooper graves was made for you.

That being said, I didn’t really enjoy this that much. It was mildly entertaining, sure, but why did it take so long to get to the plot?? We were 100 pages in and she still hadn’t agreed to be his fake-girlfriend. And I thought the fake dating would be a more prominent(look at me using fancy words) part of the book, but it was hardly mentioned?? I mean I guess the went on their not-date dates, but it didn’t feel the same. When I read fake dating, I want tension, I want banter, I want them to be forced to share a bed because everyone thinks they’re in a relationship and so they agree to stay on their respective sides of the bed but then wake up in each others arms, you know? And this just wasn’t giving.

Also, it felt like the author was trying to be soo relatable and hip, but it was just annoying after a bit. Like why are you mentioning things that won’t make sense in 20 years?

The kids were cute tho. And that’s saying a lot, because I really don’t like kids. They smell weird and are always sticky. But little what’s-her-face?(I forgot her name) Be still my heart. She was a doll. I wanted to reach through the pages and squish her little cheeks. And the little boy was quite lovely as well. If my kids aren’t like him, I’m sending them back.

Last thing—don’t be fooled, this IS NOT A CHRISTMAS BOOK!!! I went into it expecting holly jolly vibes, and received none of that. It literally just takes place in winter.

Anyways, with that being said, this was a fun(ish) read for the winter, and I didn’t hate it.

"She's my Madeline." He squeezed her hands and looked into her eyes. "I owe her everything."

If there's one thing that makes me get the warm and fuzzies it is reading a Juliana Smith book. Her books feel like comfort, like coming home from work after a long day and putting on your coziest pajamas, curling up on the couch with your favorite blanket and enjoying your favorite TV show even though you've saw it a gazillion times before.

Snowed Under checked the boxes in all the right places for me. It is the second book in the Aspen Peaks series, the first being Baggage Claim - I do think it could be read as a standalone. It is the perfect book for the 'ber months, it's set in Winter, and I just loved it so much. Also, as a big fan of Baggage Claim, can I just say it was EVERYTHING getting peaks at Olive and Finn. Like truly everything.

Cooper is literal perfection. I absolutely loved getting to know him throughout the book. He is the true definition of a golden retriever. So gentle, kind, funny sweet and honestly just everything green flag and what you'd want in a book boyfriend.

Madeline is me; I am Madeline - I have never related to a character so much. Her speech about burn out was honestly so perfectly executed. I love her character so much and I truly just wanted to be her friend. She is so relatable.

Cooper and Madeline quite literally have the best meet-cute to date. I was cracking up as I was reading it. These two together from start to finish were so perfect. Their chemistry is undeniable, and I love how they just grew so naturally; it didn't feel forced.

And I would be silly to not write this review without the mentioning of Mini Coop and Half Pint, I loved the overall big part they played in the whole story. And in their honor am going to have a Disney movie marathon and eat Sham Jams this weekend with my kids, haha.

Thank you so much Netgalley and Juliana Smith for providing me with an early copy in exchange for an honest review. I adored this book and Juliana, I will forever be a fan of you, your books but even more this world you've created within Aspen Peaks.

Snowed Under was more than worth the wait🙌 I fell in love with Juliana Smith’s books back in 2022 when she first published Baggage Claim, so you know this book was a HIGHLY HIGHLY anticipated read for me. And the wait was so worth it.

First and foremost, Madeline’s speech about burn-out made me feel so seen. I have never felt more understood in my life, and I just think that’s an important thing to say because it shows how powerful books are. Juliana’s books always make me feel warm and fuzzy, but also they’re emotionally validating and encouraging and I don’t think that fact should go unheard.

Cooper is 🙌. No words, literally. Mini-coop and half-pint GOT ME. But also, the non-dates, the caramel macchiatos and bacon cheddar scones, the snow storm, the girlfriend shirts, everything. Coop treated Madeline with so much care and understanding and it was just everything. I also loved getting to hear about his backstory and why he is who he is. Such a fun character to spend time with. I’m going to miss him😓

Madeline is one TOUGH cookie. She might be my favorite female (yes female because Finn will always my my #1 period) character of Juliana’s to date. Reading this book felt like spending time with my best friend and that just…was so nice. Everything you want out of a good book. Also, go Madeline for telling her parents off.

Madeline and Coop make such a cutie couple. I loved the frequent Finn & Olive appearances, as well as Charlie and Piper’s appearances. Overall, Snowed Under is a heartwarming holiday rom-com that will make you giggle and smile so hard that people start looking at you so you need to think of homeless puppies to make yourself stop.

Juliana you make me so ramble-y I just love your books too much.

Alright. Final thoughts: Snowed Under is tender, flirty, and above all, sweet. Like a sham jam.

Sidenote: didn’t know a three year old could consume so many slim Jim’s but hey we all have our phases🙌

ahhh yeah…

I’m soft dnfing this! Not because it was bad( it’s not), but because I’m so tired of this reading slump I’m in. I have had no motivation to read this and every time I do, I want to stop. I just feel as if I’m not giving the book the true credit it deserves when I’m forcing myself to read it and not enjoying it? If that makes senses? I don’t know 🤦‍♀️
I think I just need to read something different. I have been sitting on this one for a while and I think it’s time to move on for some time, pick up another, and revisit later! 😌

Wish me luck!

OHHHHHH MY HEART.

Juliana has a beautiful way of writing deeply authentic and relatable characters while also holding that fictional gaze that keeps you pulled away from the real struggles in your own life.

As a single mom, any single parenting story really is a meaningful to me and Juliana did an amazing job at portraying the struggles, the highs and the demons that follow from the past in our MCs. It didn’t feel too down, but was still authentic and i adored that.

I loved the pining. our MC was DOWN BAD, and i loved his POV chapters because you really saw how much he hoped that the entire “fake dating” scheme would turn real.

I really adored the link that ended up being shown between our FMC and MCs mom. It was sweet and just added to the overall enjoyment.

I LOVED the kiddos here. They truly added so much to the story.. they were witty, funny and just the bond they shared was beautiful.

You’ll find fake dating, opposites attract, single parent/guardian, workplace romance & NO THIRD ACT BREAKUP (which we love).

This was such a fun, enjoyable holiday romcom. Def recommend! Haven’t read one by Juliana Smith i didn’t love!

Tendenz zu 3,5⭐️ nicht ganz so witzig wie der erste Teil, aber trotzdem zum schmunzeln - war mit Tiefgang echt auch emotional & mein Herz ist voll

3.5 ⭐️

Short and sweet, a quick really cozy and romantic read!

Topics of this book:
* fake dating
* grief
* different types of family
* growing & changing
* finding yourself
* parenthood
* sports (ski)

Madeline is an Aunt who needs to care for her niece and nephew, working part-time in a ski lodge and studying to be a nurse, she has no time to date, however she finds herself in a deal where she has to help her nephew’s ski instructor with an interview 🤭 (I already said too much)

(Not a 4⭐️ because of the time sequence, it was a bit confusing but still recommend it)

Thank you for the ARC 💖

I’m going to be so real, most of the book I delightfully enjoyed. I liked the story and it kept moving I loved Coopers character growth from last book to now.

My biggest issues were the language used. She used till instead of until which bothered me as that is slang and felt out of context not written into dialogue. There was another grammatical error I found, and I’m not usually one to find things. I think editing could have been my biggest issue.

I am changing my review because I cannot get a physical copy of this book. The author has yet to respond, after ordering it from her website and not receiving the books in 4 months, she also has not responded to emails or DMs for days— will change if that changes with updates.
