No. Just no. I think this may be the first time I've rated something 1 star. It was ALMOST my first DNF, making me break my rule of not doing such a thing.
Where do I even begin with this?
At the time of writing, there is only one other written review for this one. That review suggests this may be AI. I tried to give it the benefit of the doubt. It wasn't the greatest writing from the start, but it wasn't THAT bad, right? Wrong. It got SO BAD in Chapter 3, and it became painful from that point onwards.
This was either written by AI or a human who doesn't fully grasp how human sex and recovery works. Chapter after chapter, Aiden is able to go two, three, four rounds without pausing. He's so hard in chapter 1 that I hoped he'd call a doctor (Sir, if it stays up for more than 4 hours, you should seek medical attention!) I understand that it's virtual and he's using a fancy rig for it to happen, so theoretically anything is possible because it's virtual, but... no. His body's clearly having a response that should require at least a few minutes of recovery.
Beyond that, 8 out of 10 chapters are "spicy" scenes (in quotes because I've never been dryer while reading smut). Most of them are basically the *same* scene over and over again, always acting like it's the first time they've done the thing. There's a *little* variety thrown in, but each one just feels the same. More than once I looked up phrases/terms because "Haven't I read this before just last chapter??"
Speaking of repeated phrases - the other review mentions repetitions as well; specifically opals when describing Spectra's eyes. I took no issue with opals, but "spectral" - hoo boy. At first I thought I'd make it into a drinking game. But then I quickly realized I valued my life too much. I did a search. The word "spectral" appears 423 times in this book. This book is 71 pages - 10 chapters! The worst offender was Chapter 5, with 151 usages! I can't. I never want to see the word "spectral" again.
Maybe this is a one off bad one (it doesn't entirely look like it from ratings of other books by this "author" though), but I definitely won't be picking up any other works by this author. I can't do that to my head, even to give a second chance.
I guess I shouldn't be surprised, since "machine learning" is right there in the title, but this was totally written by AI. Flat dialogue, uninspired prose, zero chemistry between the characters, and every time the heroine's eyes are mentioned they're compared to opals (like, multiple times on the same page!)...
