Welcome to the chaotic mind of Joshua R. Pangborn, where camp, love, and horror go hand in hand. Dare to tear into these tales of terror as Joshua's words grasp you--dragging you through these short stories of madness, mothers, and magic. Now Homo Phobias.
Content Homo Phobias is a campy, queer, fat-positive short story collection, with material that may not be suitable for all intrigued readers. These stories describe acts of abuse, sexual violence, and bodily harm. Please lead with caution if you as a reader are sensitive to any of these subjects.
I usually don’t read anthologies but Josh’s journey through queer body horror and the demons that stoke our body dysmorphia and internal shame as gay men was a harrowing and erotic journey through our often universal weak spots and hang-ups and how not addressing the wants and needs of our hearts can bottle up and manifest in the most dangerous and nihilist ways. Highly recommended
What a great collection of short horror stories! The thing I liked most and these stories, is the author was able to write horror stories that really don't feel like horror stories until you're almost at the end. Then you're just whacked over the head with a twist that'll leave you wondering how you could have missed the signs. There's a little something from a lot of different sub genres of horror. There's demons, magic, revenge, body horror, folk horror and obsession. There's two cannibals in a relationship that unknowingly have the same plan for each other. It's erotic without being vulgar. It's horrifying without being blatantly horrific. If I had to pick favorites I would have to say I enjoyed Crumbs, The Gift and The Cabin the most. But every single one was stellar. Grab this collection of queer horror and you won't be disappointed.
This is a fun and twisted collection of erotic horror fiction with a decent assortment of body horror and pervert-macabre glee. Pangnorn’s prose doesn’t exactly read beautifully, but it’s quick and well-paced with some truly off-the-wall yet exciting ideas that tell quick little horror stories that’ll leave you grinning. I’d love to see what he could do with a ghost story novel!
