The Ascension

Rate this book
From the abyss ascends an evil, mortal power that has no rival on earth. Through a vehicle of peace, ten crowns control the nations leading the world rapidly into yet another era of spiritual darkness. A wise one robed in white speaks comforting messages to the world. He performs miracles designed to deceive, leading any soul who will listen into the bottomless pit from whence there is no escape. The Lord's own are humble servants on the errand of preaching salvation to the lost. In ancient dreams and visions, pieces of modern truth lead them to enlightenment and heavy responsiblity. Who will be able to stand until the day of Christ's coming? It is the end of days and all is in commotion!

This one is the best so far in this series - it was one of those books that revealed a big secret at the end where you sat with your mouth hanging open because you can't believe what you just learned. These books are getting harder and harder to put down as the progress continues toward the 2nd Coming and evil is mounting and filling the earth and you see how the elect are even deceived. This series is a real eye opener as to the possibilities of the future and how we need to be preparing now for that time. My testimony has really been strengthened regarding the need to listen to the prophets, know the scriptures and be obedient to those things that you know are true. What is also a big eye opener - this book was written in 2005 and you can see some of the "predictions" from the book coming to pass. We truly need to be preparing ourselves in so many ways to be ready. Love this series.

Cry, laugh, get educated and entertained! Amazing book series, people who fault a visionary work for a few typos are missing the point...there is no other contender for "last days" LDS historical fiction. Writing about the "end days" AND keeping in line with scriptures and latter day prophecy in NO EASY TASK! Hurrah for Wendie L. Edwards! I have read a lot of fiction and fantasy novels and this IS very good. Wendy keeps it interesting like J.K., but while sharing information that is much more relevant than Hogwarts! Wendie has done the hard research for you, and also gives it to you in copious footnotes if you don't trust her. This is the kind of information that may lead to your temporal and spiritual survival in the near future, AND it is entertaining...what could be more worth your reading time than that?

I liked how this book described what's going on in different parts of the world during the last days using characters we already know from previous books who happen to be working or serving missions in different places around the world. I also like the notes at the end of each chapter to reference what scriptures and/or prophets have said regarding the last days. The only downside is that sometimes the characters themselves are not believable in their dialogue or thoughts, and some dialogue is too well scripted to have to do with some scriptures about the last days without much general banter or normal conversations between the characters. Other than that, I really liked the book and am continuing to read the series.

this series, has done an ok thing...made me interested in the next book. not great writing, but the literary leg stretching, that was obvious in the 1st 2 books, is looking to pay out here a little. one thing i am not liking as much, and probably just attributed to this author is now (4 books in), she focuses on each book on one aspect of the family. there are a few pokings here and there, but each book is more like a long chapter, forgetting what happened in previous ones. it is not horrible, but now i just want to know how it ends...glad it is not a giant series. each book is a quick read, and her protagonists, are a bit TOO archetypal, but again, i am still reading, so who am i to judge?

This series is about the last days. Giving a very interest protrail of the last days making you think about your need to perpare for these days. Like the Work and the glory she has put together a fictional family and put them into the middle of the facts about about what is coming. allow you to put yourself into the place of the family. however the best part is the notes and references at the end of each chapter.

I like how the author follows different characters and has them placed in strategic places throughout the world as prophecies are fulfilled. I love the endnotes and her research is extensive and fabulous. However, some of the dialogue is repetitious and the story seems to drag in places.

I can't recommend this series enough. Wendie has researched so well and footnoted even more than I thought possible. Unfortunately is really is believable, because it is really happening.
