I love to read books and poetry, along with writing them. What can be more fun than putting on paper stories you develop in your mind? Although I've written stories for years, it's just recently that I decided to try self-publishing. My first novel 'Always' was published on Oct 2012. It is a fantasy/romance story that takes place in England. In July 2013 I published a book of poetry Stepping Stones. In Dec 2013 I published my second novel, The Lone Hero and my first children's rhyme book. Continuing to publish, in 2015 I published the first of the Dimidium series, also a fantasy/romance story about a race that's half human and half vampire. I've also added fantasy stories to two horror books, When the Lights Go Out and Strange Portals. I was born and raised in Ohio and now live in the scenic state of Utah. I attended BYU-Idaho where I received my Associate Degree in humanities (French and German), BYU-Hawaii where I received my Bachelor Degree in Mand Chinese & Chinese History, and did 3 yrs of graduate school in Chinese & Linguistics.
What a sweet story! This is an ideal book for young readers, or for parents to read to their children.
I have a child age 4 who begs us to read her a story at night before she goes to bed. This book is ideal for that. One time, in the middle of the night, my daughter was awakened by a storm. Alone in her room, the flashes of lightning and the rumbling thunder scared her. It was 2am and we all needed to back to sleep, so I tried to explain that she had nothing to fear from the storm, but at that age logic doesn't necessarily apply. I sat with her, gently suggesting things for her to think about that were pleasant to her: her stuffed dolphin, bouncing on her trampoline, playing with her best friend, going to dance class... in no time, she was asleep, but I like to think that the fun images I put into her head helped her have pleasant dreams.
This book is like that. Any child who is looking forward to Christmas will love reading (or hearing) about the toys and cookies and other Christmas themed characters in the book. It will help young readers develop a love of reading because it is a topic every child likes to read about. It will help rowdy kids go to sleep because it is a fun story that constantly puts new Christmassy images in their head on every page, giving them lots to think about as they drift off.
Gingerbread Castle is a book for children by D.M. Yates with beautiful poetry and lovely illustrations. It speaks the story of a trip to Dreamland. Together, we travel through the landscape and see many animals. Soon enough, we come to the aforementioned Gingerbread Castle. Made of thick gingerbread and adorned with candies, the castle is guarded by teddy bears and eagerly greet you as you arrive. The book is a wonderful experience for people of any age. The story is adventurous and upbeat. The illustrations are colourful and accompany the story well. It's a good book and would be great to read to any child.
I grabbed a free copy of this from Smashwords today.
Gingerbread Castle is an enchanting illustrated book both children and adults will enjoy. It's ideal for elementary school readers to read alone, or for parents to read to their preschoolers. Children will love the rhyming pattern and the corresponding images that paint an ideal winter wonderland. They'll imagine themselves climbing aboard the shiny red train or sipping their own cherry milkshake in the Sweet Treats room!
If you're looking for a book to share with your child, one that will transport you both to a magical place, Gingerbread Castle is for you.
Gingerbread Castle is a lovely blend of illustrations, rhyme, and relaxation. I felt like I was on a vacation and the wonderful animals were giving me a tour of the castle. Bright colors and well defined drawings (particular those of the mice, bear, and the penguins) served as pleasure to the eyes. The scrumptious gingerbread castle made my mouth water. It is definitely a candy fanatic's dream as well as a dream of a young one. Very well suited to the targeted age group.
A sweet story that children are sure to love. DM Yates has such a creative imagination, and it really shines through in this fun little kids book - most impressive to me is that it rhymes. I know when I was a kid my favorite books rhymed, so that made this especially enjoyable.
