MarKila Cassidy’s favorite person is her big brother. Because of his many sacrifices, she does what she can to always make him proud. That is until another man comes in and steals MarKila’s heart.
Derrick Monroe likes to fly under the radar. His only focus is getting money with his best friend. Life is smooth sailing for Derrick until an unexpected blessing lands in his lap.
Derrick and MarKila’s path is dangerous, but now that love is on the table, will the damage caused be worth it?
There's always a risk you take when dating your brother's friend, but it is almost always worth it. Markila and Derrick had been feeling each other for years and kept their feelings under wraps for the sake of her brother Marcus, Derrick's best friend. But when they are pushed together by way of a blind date, all bets are off.
I loved how Derrick took that week to show Markila how much he cared for her and letting her know that their love was worth the risk of angering Marcus.
Now Marcus. 👀 I get that you were upset that they hid the relationship, but damn you acted like a damn child! Markila is your grown sister, not your teenage baby girl! 😡 If Derrick was solid enough to be your best friend, why wasn't he good enough for your sister? Something just felt off about him and the way he behaved after discovering the truth. And Gabby.... what the hell ma'am when you started this whole mess!!🤬 Were you intentionally trying to sabotage the relationship between Makila and Marcus??? Hmm.... Just throw them both the hell away and keep it pushing. 😤
Markila gave Marcus too much power over her life, and he just acted a damn fool when she didn't do as he said. I'm glad that she chose Derrick and the happiness that she deprived herself of all those years. Derrick stayed by her side and supported her through all the ish that her brother threw at them, and it made me love him even more. 🤩 I just can't get over Marcus and Gabby's behaviors and wish that we got a bit more into that. 🤯 I enjoyed this read, although it was messy as hell.
I knew at about ten pages in that this book was gong to be entertaining. It’s kinda a Romantic comedy with all the giggling I was doing. The fmc was a princess and the mmc was definitely able to take care of her. Secrets secrets secrets!! I would recommend to anyone who like brother best friend books
I am currently looking through the authors catalog to see if this trash can brother has a redemption book bc he was underwhelming lol and I was rooting for him.
I enjoyed this story, even with the pacing being slower. A brother's best friends relationship story was relatively nice. I side eyed Junior's behavior about his sister. In some ways, it was kinda creepy strange. Derrick and MarKila were grown, and they did not need Junior or Gabby for validation. Junior was actually trash once you realized his full capacity for depraved acts with friends. You'll see what I mean.
Loved this book… loved how Derrick loved Birdie.. now Junior was a punk , he hid so much from her that is crazy.. he was a hypocrite, he can mess with her friends but she can’t fall in love with his bff.. then took her money, locked her out of their parents house, and was trying to make her choose between the two..
Junior was definitely trifling. Loved how Derrick and Jo’s mom was there to pick up the pieces and she had family she didn’t know about.
Overall, great read!!!

I always enjoy the brother’s best friend trope and this book did not disappoint. I loved MarKila and Derrick together. Their bond and chemistry was so cute and I loved that they finally let their love be shown out loud despite the blowback from Marcus Junior. These two definitely deserved each other and their happily ever after.
This story had times where I was getting frustrated with MarKila because she seemed to put her brother’s feelings over her own but most of my frustration was definitely directed toward Marcus Junior and the way he was acting like a bitter ex or controlling father instead of a big brother to an overly grown sister. Marcus was on one the entire book it seemed when it came to his sister and some of the way he acted and things he said had me clutching my invisible pearls because wtf?! It made no sense with the way he was acting once he found out about MarKila and Derrick and instead oof asking his best friend what his intentions were with his sister or trying to understand their feelings for each other, all he could see was that they defied him by sleeping together and being together. And let’s not get on his wife who set this whole thing in motion with this blind date. I’m sure she knew what would happen between MarKila and Derrick but it never seemed like she tried to talk him down or intervene and talk some sense into Marcus. In the end, I’m glad that MarKila chose herself and her happiness with Derrick over her brother being butt hurt about something that shouldn’t have been a factor especially considering his own secrets and the fact that Derrick was good to his sister, and it was good to see Derrick and MarKila get their happily ever after. My only complaint is the epilogue came too fast but the conversation between the siblings showed that not much had changed. I also wondered what happened with the business that Derrick and Marcus had together.
This is a definite must read and a great come back for this author after a brief hiatus. 5/5 stars.
IOMG, this story was good and so intense! MarKila found love with her brother's best friend, Derrick. Her brother Marcus, acted a complete fool, because his sister was off limits to his friend. And his sister went against his demands and orders. Here she was, a 28 yr old woman, and he treated her like she was 12 and his daughter.
This got messy! MarKila ends up pregnant and she and Derrick had already established how they felt. Her brother disowns her, refers to her as a whore, has Derrick arrested, keeps her from their family, and locks her out of her account he sets up. He was a complete jerk until the end.
It was hard for her to see how her brother treated her and along with her sister-in-law, who set up the blind date.
Marcus had some skeletons of his own that Derrick didn't spill but could have, and I wished he had. Was there something else that happened to make the brother this possessive? I'm just asking.
Perfectly written story.

This book had my interest peaked from the very beginning. Derrick had longed to be with his Birdie for 10 years so when the opportunity presented itself, he took it. I loved them together, and I especially loved the banter they had going on. I couldn't stand that hypocritical brother of MarKila, especially after some of his secrets were revealed. He acted like he was sooooo holier than thou when actually, he wasn't the person he presented himself to be. I couldn't believe some of the actions he took. Derrick and MarKila were better off, and I don't blame them for keeping this stress out of their lives. I loved how her bestie, Joey, and his mother, Ms. Pearl, stepped in to be the support and family that MarKila needed. Derrick and MarKila got the happy ending that they richly deserved.
I want to start this off fuck you Marcus and Gabby. Especially Gabby and exceptionally Marcus. I will get back to yall later. This is a first read from Erika B and I love this book. Even though it pissed me off to hell and back. Because of the drama. But Fmc and mmc love for each other was so beautiful and heart warming. Who would have know that a week together would bring out such deep and comforting love. I loved seeing them loving on each other and how supportive Mmc was to Fmc. When shit it the fan he made sure to put together. This book has me go from smiling to frowning repeatedly.
Extra bs
Now Marcus I should smack you to the moon and back. For someone that loves his sister so much you gave her your whole entire ass to kiss. Because the things you done to your sister was crazy. Who kicks out their sister because she has found beautiful love and was pregnant. Just because you don't like what is happening doesn't mean you act a foul. You really didn't mess with your sister and your best friend fr. It was actually giving he wished he was dating his sister.
And Gabby
Weren't you the one to set up your brother and your "best friend". You definitely were so I'm really unsure what you were acting like you had no clue. Seeing around following behind your husband like she aint have no since. Running around air head and stuff. I understand standing by your husband but at this point you look stupid doing it. And letting your daughter run around calling people whores. Shame on you and your bs husband.

Derrick have been in love with MarKila for ten years and when Gabby set them up they didn't even know it was with each other, the set up was all they needed but they had one week to be together but Derrick couldn't stay away. Junior her brother didn't know and when he found out was upset so not only was he mad at her but at his best friend too, he turned his back on her and never forgave them so they had their children and lived their best life.
I absolutely love this story. Junior and Gabby can go to hell, Cause the fuck. Not both Derrick and markila liking each other for like 10 years and not acting on that out of respect for Kiki trash ass egotistical brother...like miss me with that she...I'm happy they didn't let her bro messy ways stop they joy. Also I wish Derrick would have let it be known that junior was with Joey before Gabby and the other secret cause he deserved to have his happiness haulted...
I’m mad about that ending! I thought junior was going to get it together but I guess not! I can’t believe gabby didn’t take any responsibility and the secrets that came out
I was fascinated by this story. Sometimes family can be the worse. Marklin Brother was so petty . He acted like he cared but really didn't. Her best friend Gabby only cared about herself. Why Marcus hated Derrick so much was crazy. This story was good.
The story was really good but I still had a lot of questions concerning the brother. I would have liked the author to have given some insight into his thoughts about why he felt the way he did.
Yes, Erika has done it again. Derrick and Markila choosing each other was very risky but soo happy they did. Jr made my blood boil with his controlling ways.
