My Favorite Sin

Rate this book
Ally Hastings is my obsession, the one girl I never should have fallen in love with.

She ran away from me for a year, filled with shame, insisting our feelings for each other are wrong and we can’t give into temptation. No more sneaking around. No more stolen kisses.

Now Ally is back in town, ignoring our past, trying to date other guys and move on from me. I thought I could hate her for the way she ripped my heart out but I’m more obsessed with her than ever. I don’t care how wrong we are for each other, Ally Hastings is mine, I’ll make her see it, and I won’t let anyone take her from me.

My Favorite Sin is BOOK 2 of DAN AND ALLY'S DUET. The story is a “his dad married her mom” new adult romance. My Favorite Sin is a lot spicier than My Favorite Girl.

Thank you, Skyla Summers, for this incredible ARC.

I think this book has become my favorite in the taboo or forbidden romance genre, and Ally and Dan have become one of my comfort couples. Their love was so true and pure, there was no way not to love them.

Seeing their evolution from the prequel to this book was simply beautiful. I believe the prequel is necessary but not mandatory. The prequel is also an amazing read, which tells how Ally and Dan met and formed a beautiful relationship right from the start. But if you don't want to read it, you don't have to, although I highly recommend it because it’s totally worth it.

Moreover, I don’t see why Ally cared so much about what one of the secondary characters, Liam, thought. They acted like exes, but they were at best just a fling, nothing more. I think that was the only part of the book that didn’t make sense to me, lol."

“The more wrong it is, the better it feels. Let me teach you how to take care of yourself.”
“She’s my slut. My Queen of Hearts.”
“Such a needy little thing, aren’t you?”
“Why fight what feels natural?”

I haven’t read My Favorite Girl, the novella that happens before My Favorite Sin, but that didn’t affect my reading experience.

Straight from the start, the dynamic and chemistry between Dan and Ally were so good. The lessons and “teach me” moments between them were some of my favorite moments.

The "will they, won't they" moments had me internally yelling at the characters at times, but when they finally gave in, it was all worth the wait. I'm glad they got the ending they deserved.

Both Dan and Ally grew a lot as characters throughout the book, and I loved their character development both as individuals and as a couple.

This book was an emotional roller coaster. At times, I was so close to throwing my Kindle to the nearest wall, but there were also some funny parts that made me laugh as well as sad parts that made me tear up. And the spice truly was spicing!

I can’t wait to read more books by the author!

I received an ARC of this book and I am voluntarily leaving a review. Receiving ARC didn’t affect my opinion of the book.

3.7 🌟🌟🌟

I have mixed feelings about the book, the storyline was good though along with the chemistry between the characters but I wanted to see more of the emotional connection of the main leads.... I am thankful that author given that part by the end of the book but it was necessary from the starting.

I definitely expected a better MFC I mean I totally get it where she is coming from but she doesn't deserves to give a guy mixed signals and then absolutely blame him for everything which was solely her responsibility, which also brings me to the point I hated car scene also all the ridiculous dates she went with Liam. I never really understood her point of view specially the way she kissed Liam or rather allowed him to kiss her just after she let dan kissed her.... Sorry to say she was really desperate for god knows what. Though I am really lucky the author made her character better and finally our innocent girl got back her senses (though it was too late)

As for the MMC, well dan is a good character but I hated the way he behaved with his own family, I get it he was not going to give up on ally but well he could have handled in a lot better way, but considering the plot dynamics I think I understand till some extent from where he is coming. As for his dynamics between him and his dad- oh god!! I can't believe he is that foolish like playing illegal poker matches to live his life just to against his father? Absolutely ridiculous and then ally getting into god knows how many trouble for that... Then during the whole confrontation scene it was somehow played like it was all their parents fault the way they behaved all that.... whereas it was NOT!!! I am NOT excusing thier actions but being thier son and daughter I think they should have been the first to try and sort it out all first... Considering they knew what they were doing unlike thier parents... And ofcourse maybe thier parents could have empathetic (but I am not sure any parents could have been)

The book was literally full of too many smuts and stuffs and though I enjoyed it I wanted more of the emotional part as I mentioned above.... The ending part of the book was really good, I liked those finally got to read something apart from smut.

Fav scene: When dan gave her the necklace as her birthday present it was the sweetest thing I felt.

I honestly don’t know what to rate this because I yes was somewhat entertained, but I didn’t think the writing was great. I also thought Ally was annoying hahahahah.

You have to read the prequel, My Favorite Girl before this.
— it’s a short easy read. If you don’t read it, you’re missing wayyyy too much context to these characters.

This pains me to say, but I didn’t love this one. While the spice was spicing and the chemistry was off the charts, I felt like this book was a little bit repetitive throughout. Especially Ally’s character. I wanted more from her after Dan was laying down everything for her.

I did love all the intimate scenes between these two and when things finally hit the fan, how they both react to the situation.

I am SO looking forward to Felix, Tyler, and Harper’s book next. I just know it’s going to be super angsty.

All the angst!!!

I read the novella prequel and have been busting for this book. It did not disappoint. It is not as dark (thankfully) as implied and despite the taboo, forbidden love, it still managed to be sweet and even romantic in places that have you rooting for Dan and Ally. I loved it!

Ohhh this book grabbed me and pulled me in so quick! I love a good stepbrother romance, and this one had everything I crave! Depravity, tension, secretive, he falls hardest, possessive OTT mmc, virgin fmc, and the list goes on!

I loved every minute of this book and the back and forth between Dan and Ally. He's all in and doesn't care who knows, and she's reserved and worried about self image and how others will feel. Watching those walls come crumbling down was fantastic! If you love a good stepbrother romance with characters that you can obsess over, then you need to read this book! I can't wait for Felix & Tyler's story!

I really loved the novella before this one and was more then happy that I got to read My favorite sin. And really Skyla did such an amazing job with this book! I was hooked from start to finish and couldn't put the book down.

The chemistry between Dan and Ally was just spot on! And I loved how they were willing to fight for each other. Skyla has a really nice writingstyle making it easy to just read on and enjoy everything.

I can't wait to read about the other brothers!

ARC READ 📚
Okay, so I read this book within 24 hours and could not put it down! This book is taboo AF, and I was loving every minute of it. This is the first book I have read from this author, and the writing style was pure perfection. These characters will hold a special place in my heart for a long time. I loved that even though the spice was a main topic, there was so much plot involved to really tie it together, making it an interesting read that, like I said, I could not put down! If you haven't already, please give this author a read as I am so excited for further instalments for the playing favourites series... these brothers are everything !

As always, check the triggers;
My Favourite Sin trigger warnings: Sexual relations between step siblings Possessive, jealous, dominant male lead Social anxiety and panic attacks Bullying trauma Domestic violence trauma Mention of parental death Pregnancy scare. This is a minor plot point that does not last long and does not turn into pregnancy. Delayed orgasm Forced orgasm Voyeurism Blood kisses Bondage Sexual acts next to family Anal sex Public sexual acts Sexual manipulation Degradation Dom/sub Sexual punishment Unprotected sex Uncomfortable sexual situations (not between the main characters. The female and male lead do not cheat on each other.)

“Always so fucking ashamed of your feelings.”

“We’ll do this Ally’s way, but I won’t make it easy for her. She’ll suffer. I’ll break her down. She will be mine. I won’t fucking let her get over me.”

“You and I might be wrong for each other. But trust me, Ally, no one has what we have.”

“You’ll be back. I don’t know when. It could be days. Months. Years. But you’ll be back, and I’ll be here waiting for you.”

Too good. I loved Dan & Ally so much. The chemistry was chefs kiss. Character development was perfection. I even cried a couple different. Can’t wait for My Favorite Secret

Ally and Dan! What can I say except this story takes you on a wave of emotions and the love and admiration Dan has for Ally is perfection. His birthday present to Ally was so heartfelt definitely tugged at my emotions. I simply love the way Skyla writes taking you on a journey that you get so invested in from the beginning. This might not be for everyone as there are a few trigger warnings and does consist of a blended family but truly it was so well written. This is book 1 in the Playing Favourites series and I would highly recommend reading the prequel My Favourite Girl novella first. I truly cannot wait for the rest of the series, these brothers!🔥 I received a complementary copy from the author.

✧˖° I read the prequel novella “my favorite girl” and I loved Ally & Dan so much in that one, so I already knew I was just going to continue to love them! 🥹 Their love was seriously so strong and just pure! I was rooting for them so hard because you could just tell they were meant for each other! They are most definitely each others “person.” The tension in this book was so intense! And I was loving it, literally eating it up. And their character development both individually and as a couple was really good. I will say the prequel isn’t mandatory to read but i highly recommend because you get to see them from the beginning! I’m just so glad they got their happy ending! And I’m so excited for the next book 🙂‍↔️ I’m already so intrigued with those characters and their story just from the teasers we got.

This story takes us through finding your person, in a world where your love is forbidden & the challenges they face to overcome them.

If you haven’t read “My Favorite Girl” the prequel novella to this book, I highly suggest you do, before reading “My Favorite Sin” as it sets up the characters development, explains their relationship and gets the world building out of the way.

As always check trigger and content warnings at the start of the book. :)

I was highly anticipating this book! Straight after finishing MFG, I could not wait to see Dan & Ally’s story continue and how their dynamic had changed over time. Their chemistry is off the charts, and I loved reading their possessiveness of each other as well as their refusal to back down. I am so damn proud of Ally and how she stands up for herself & Dan!

I really enjoyed seeing more of the brothers, and how they come together to support each other. Giving found family vibes.

Both characters had great personal growth & development that made the ending sweet and satisfying, though still leaving enough room for more future books with the Blackwood brothers!
(Here’s hoping Felix is next!)

Happy reading!

I’ve read a lot of step-sibling romances and let me tell you now this (and it’s prequel) set the bar high and has become one of my favourites for this trope. I hoovered this down in one sitting.

Something I absolutely loved about these two books were that they were the perfect balance between slow burn forbidden angst and yet still off the charts with the build up of spice.

This was so much more than just a taboo romance. The feelings that Dan and Ally have for each other are so pure and soulmate level that it’ll make your heart ache for them. The way they love and protect each other even when they try their hardest to fight their feelings had me swooning.

If you pick this up PLEASE make sure you read the prequel which follows the beginning of their story and teenage years as this book picks up at later point of their life. The experience was so much better and I felt much more connected to the characters.

Sweet, innocent Ally keeps trying to convince herself that her and Dan can be nothing more than friends. Nothing more than just step siblings. But we all know that her and Dan's feelings for each other are unconditional. Even after their year apart, neither of them can get over each other. And Dan is so sweet and patient with Ally, as he has been for years.
Skyla, this was an amazing continuation to Dan and Ally's relationship. You could tell Dan was trying so hard not to just go head first into what he wanted to do, but honestly, I wish he did because Ally was so content on them never being together in the beginning. The push and pull is strong with them fighting the urge to be with one another. I'm a sucker for a good happy ending & Dan and Ally definitely deserved it.

I absolutely loved the conclusion to Ally and Dan’s story! The build up was intense and the come down was so incredibly gratifying. Ally’s good girl/good daughter persona was so relatable to me - I loved seeing her come out of her shell and be true to herself by the end of the story. Dan is a dirty talker and such a simp for Ally. I enjoyed getting more insight into the rest of the Blackwood family since the novella was such a short intro. The scenes with the other brothers and even the extended family scenes were really fun (Daxton is the best). Can’t wait to read more about each of them (especially Felix 👀)!!

This was a sweet and spicy forbidden read. I honestly couldn’t put this down once I started. The story line was perfect and the tension between the two main characters was so good. My Favorite Sin was the sequel to My Favorite Girl and while I loved both of them…My Favorite Sin blew My Favorite Girl out of the water!!

Skyla Summers really delivered when she wrote this book and I am so happy it exists in this world!!

Dan and Ally’s story was not easy but it was well worth it!! In the beginning, I was extremely frustrated with Ally but thankfully she got her bearings and realized that Dan was perfect for her!!

The angst that was in this story was real and I could feel how the characters felt throughout the scenes!!

This is definitely in my Top 15 books and I can’t wait for everyone else to read it!!

Skyla Summers did a wonderful job writing the continued of Dan & Ally's story. They have truly loved each other through hard times & happy times. Their personalities jump at you through the pages. Each of the smaller characters is also given the spotlight enough to know their personalities!

There were so many emotions in this book. There are times of frustration, happiness, sadness, and excitement.

There's not a ton of spice but when it's there, it's hot!

The book is an easy read & a page-turner. I will recommend this book in addition to the first one - 'My Favorite Girl'.

This was a good book exploring a forbidden/taboo relationship. It was an enjoyable read overall. I think for me, it was more sex than substance. The plot and characters were just a bit flat for me. I did read the whole book pretty much in one sitting, so it was an entertaining read but at the same time I didn’t get a ton out of it, I would have liked a little more depth to the story.

The main thing that drove me through reading the book was wondering how the relationship would unfold and what happens when everyone finds out. That was handled well and was a pretty good element in the story, I think I said “oh sh!t” out loud at that part lol and that aspect kept my interest to read the whole book. The steamy scenes are pretty good as well.

Overall this one is good for an enticing, taboo, quick/light read.

Ooooh... I do love a forbidden romance between step-siblings, and this one is right up there as one of my favourites.

Ally is back after a year abroad and is desperately trying to subdue her feelings for Dan, whereas he is trying to be patient and show her how they are meant to be together no matter what.

The tension between them is insane!
So many hidden touches, close calls, and push and pull with these two characters created a compelling forbidden love story.

And holy hotness... THE SPICE!?!
There's so many blush-inducing scenes that I could talk about, but the outdoor shower and car I think are my favourites 🥵

There is a prequel novella called 'My Favorite Girl' that I would definitely suggest reading first.
It's not essential, but it gives all the history between Dan and Ally after they meet at 15/16 years old

An atypical romance than my usual tropes, My Favourite Sin had better pacing than its predecessor and some good tension building. But I did feel as though I was reading Chuck Bass fan fic at times (but not in a good way like Elle Kennedy’s Misfits) and the pet name Queen gave me the ick.
