In the depths of Missouri's Lake of the Ozarks, a sinister legacy waits. FBI Special Agent Kate Reid and the rest of the BAU team plunge into the chilling investigation of a DEA Agent’s murder, only to uncover a haunting trail of death that stretches back through time.
As the body count climbs, Kate must navigate a treacherous web of secrets and deception, all while battling her inner demons and facing the fallout of her troubled marriage.
But when the killer strikes again, she knows she must push herself to the brink and risk everything to save an innocent life. With evil lurking beneath the lake’s tranquil surface, will Kate be able to put an end to the killer before he claims another victim?
Love these books. I’ve read all 17 in 12 weeks. What can I say,I’m hooked. You will fall in love with all these characters. I feel like I know so many of them personally. Hell I feel like Kate and I are best friends. It’s hard to put into words without spoiling a lot of good reading . Dive into book 1 and get to know everyone. Keeps you guessing I can tell you that!
If you enjoy suspense, intrigue, interesting characters and good plots, I can recommend this series of 17 books. I seldom have read a series of this length and typically find that authors who write series usually go one or two books too many. That is not true of Mahle. #17 was as good as the first book in the series. The author did challenge me by the number of characters she included in each book to the point I sometimes needed to keep a cheat sheet of who was who! In most of the books there is also a number of agencies involved. It is not just a local police force calling in the FBI. In many of the books you will find 3,4, or even 5 different agencies such as Coast Guard, DEA, county, city and state forces, military forces, foreign country departments of law, social services, etc. The level of violence including dismemberment and violence against women did push me to and occasionally over my comfort level. But it was outweighed by the author’s writing drawing me into the story and wanting to know what happens next. Personally, I think the character Quinn appeared in too many of the books. The impact he made on other characters was an integral part of how those characters developed over the series, but his actual presence did not to be there. Book #10 was my least favorite.
Well, what can I say. Such a powerful story that certainly didn’t pull any punches.
I love ALL of the Kate Reid books and this one is a worthy addition to the stable. Very intense at times ( I don’t do spoilers) but it was a thrilling FBI investigation but as always , it’s not just the investigation, it delves into the personal aspect of the team. This one was more poignant for Kate as it brought back, with a vengeance, the personal trials and tribulations she had as a young girl. She has to face her demons once again.
A most exciting story which I thoroughly recommend for your reading pleasure.
The entire series was great. However, I feel Kate should have taken more responsibility for what happened. If you truly love someone, you help overcome their demons. Kate having wine in the house, and drinking in front of Nick was unfair to him. Kissing her and tasting the wine, knowing how much HD wanted that drink. Blaming him for everything was the wrong thing to do.
This was an intense, complex, intriguing, and unique case that the BAU was called in on. When tragedy after tragedy keeps happening, they have to attempt to figure out if they're related to their original case, or if it's just a coincidence. It will keep you guessing until the very end. I'm not sure if this is the last book in this series, but I hope it's not. Would like to see more. I would recommend this book, series, and author.
This was certainly one confusing story. So many leads, so many parts that were intertwined into this story. A lot of false starts and wrong turns lead to an ending that wasn't even on the radar. Then there is the emotional side of this story that pulls on the heartstrings. Good read!
This story takes things going from the get-go. Not only does the BAU team and Kate have to deal with a murderer, but Kate also has to deal with personal issues. Buckle up butter cup...you're in for a ride! I voluntarily reviewed a copy of this book.
This is a great series and continues to excel. Robin is a wonderful author and demonstrates her skill in this book. From one chapter to the next, it keeps you guessing, makes you sad, and comes at you from multiple angles. Looking forward to the next one!
This was probably my least favorite Kate Reid book. There are a lot of characters to keep track of, some story lines felt rushed and irrelevant to the story line and some story lines went unanswered. I liked the ending. I hope there are more books in the series
I have read 17 books about Kate and how she became a FBI profiler She is amazing I recommend these books to anyone who likes someone who finds the monsters of the world
This one had me from beginning to the very end. There were many times I noticed I wasn't I so caught all the twists and turns. Thanks Robin 1>17, now I calm the heck down.
I've been reading the entire Kate Reid series since last yr, each book getting better and better. I've now got to wait a few weeks until the latest book is available. This was one of the best FBI series I've read. This is not a standalone story.
