Rate this book
Grace Sullivan has already had the worst day of her life: the day she lost her parents, but this is a close second. She’s lost her job on the same day she finds out a secret about her boyfriend. The only positive thing about her day is an envelope that Mr. Bloomer, Grace’s boss, gave her before she left. After she opens it, she wonders if its contents are a blessing or a curse. A piece of property is in her future that she has no idea how to take care of. When she gets to the front window of the home, a voice in her head says, “Well, go inside.” Startled, she turns to look around but no one is there. She finds a letter under the upstairs window seat that opens up a new world of discovery for her. Man or ghost? Or just Whispers By The Window?

This book really took me by surprise. I think I had a sort of vision in my head before I started reading this book. And it was just completely different.

The book is about Grace. Grace just got fired. Her elderly boss Mr. Bloomer tried his hardest to keep her. But it didn't pay off. She gets a very low severance check. So Mr. Bloomer tells her, he also left her a house. It is a bit run down. So he personally gives her extra money to fix it up. It's a gorgeous house with a stunning tree in the backyard.

Before she enters the house for the first time. She hears a voice and enters the house. And the first night the lights go on and off. Doors open and close. She gets so scared she calls 911, but the call isn't getting through. When she calls her aunt, she also isn't able to reach her.
She wants to sell the house, but the voice asks her to stay.

Mr. Bloomer who gave her the house, passed away the day after she got it. At first she thinks the voice of the ghost belongs to Mr. Bloomer. But when she finds a letter. She pieces together that the voice is of Rett (Everett) Bloomer. He is the one who built the house and lived there when it first was constructed around 1902.

While Grace is fixing up the house. She gets help from Chenille and her crew. They clean and paint. And Oliver helps her with construction related work.
Chenille is in a very destructive relationship. And Oliver is trying to help her. And things change slowly between the two of them.

I absolutely love these two side characters. They are well rounded and add a lot to the story. I really felt what they felt and I loved the whole journey they went on in the book.

But Grace and Rett held my entire heart. I love how quickly Grace accepts the spirit of Rett. I love how she finds his letters/journal entries and reads them together with him.
Grace needs to figure out how he died, so he can move on. But while they are talking to each other, they start to fall for each other. Their story is so softly written. But even though it has a soft touch to it. I absolutely felt everything. I loved the tiny moments they could touch. Or when they shared someone big with the other one.

I love the whole pacing of the story. It is powerfully written.
And it even has a bit of religion in it. But that was done really well. The religious side didn't take over the story as happens in some books. It was in perfect balance with the narrative of the story. And it added to the story.

I don't want to spoil to much. But I loved the ending.
For me the ending really tied the whole story together. And it shows how strong the power of believe is. It shows how important willpower is. Fighting for what you want and believe in.
It has a magical feel to it. All while the entire story is really grounded.

5 very well deserved stars from me! Absolutely loved this paranormal, romance story! Thank you Jennifer Loy for sharing this amazing book with me! ♥

This was a sweet, romantic, paranormal mystery with some Ghost and Mrs. Muir vibes. I was entranced by this book right from the beginning and breezed right through it. I enjoyed the relationship between Grace and the ghost and the way it developed. I did find a few things about the house maybe a little inconsistent with the time period it was supposed to be built in, but I was able to overlook that.

I usually do not read ghost stories or paranormal books. But I must say that I enjoyed reading this book! It is light and airy, not dark and creepy. I didn't want to stop reading! Give this book a try. I am sure you will like it.

A charming paranormal romance with some drama and comedy tossed in to make it so entertaining and a delight to read.

Grace inherits a house only to find out it comes with a ghost. Grace can hear his voice and at first she thinks she is imagining it. Then she can hear his voice inside her head. Then she looks forward to talking to Rett and reading his letters. The relationship grows as they learn about each other and fall in love.

A beautifully written love story. Grace also learns the value of friendship and how to move forward. Perfect read for spooky season.

Loved this book! The connection between Grace and the Ghost is realistic, playful and most of all, respectful. You also completely relate to Grace as she tries to put together a new life for herself and the people she has met through this unexpected adventure. It's truly a story of loss, love, hope, resilience and the angels that surround you in your life. It made me cry, but don't worry, it's also full of laughs! Definitely one of Jennifer's best!

This book is a wondrous read. The paranormal aspect makes it intriguing to say the least. Grace Sullivan is such a relatable, down-to-earth protagonist with an interesting story to tell. If you enjoy the paranormal and a star-crossed romance, you will definitely love this novel.

Jennifer Loy hit this one out of the ballpark. I thoroughly enjoyed reading Whispers By The Window.

Grace has had a rough go with it lately. She is terminated from her job after 10 years, her boss Mr. Boomer hands her a severance package as he tells her he tried to fight for her position. Grace’s boyfriend is cheating on her when she comes home early and she finds out he has been pretty much the entire relationship.

Upon opening her severance package she finds that Mr. Boomer left her his old house in Malibu. The place needs work so he leaves her money and sets up help for her.

On he first night she hears a man and thinks she’s crazy. She finds that the voice is Rhett Boomer an ancestor of Mr. Boomer.

Rhett has waited forever for Grace and he she for him.

Whispers by the window is a must read.

I was so so lucky to win a copy of this book, and so thankful. I think the storyline was really interesting too

But.. it was a DNF for me at chapter 4. There were some dialogue between characters that I didn’t think worked. There seemed to be more dialogue then story. To me anyways. I wasn’t pulled into the characters at all and she seemed very young for her someone her age.

Seriously how can author write into the story, that this character didn’t know the value or a house in Malibu. When the character lives in LA.

I have a hard time wrapping around my head that an aunt, who is close with her niece, wouldn’t tell her niece that her boyfriend hit on her and grabbed her behind.

This is probably not the authors fault, but all the spaces between paragraphs were soooo distracting.

I thought this book was written by a new author, but apparently not.

This book pulled at every heart string. I love it from beginning to me crying my eyes out at the end. Jennifer seriously does it again. Having you fully attached to her characters and turning page after page for more. I couldn’t ask for a more beautifully written love story💜

Goodreads giveaway win!

I actually loved this story until the very end.
A love story that spans centuries, everything seems almost possible until the very last chapter or 2. I didn't love the final impossible act. It made the story almost seem cheap.

This story was a very easy read with extremely loveable characters. It has a very smooth flow, a bit of religious context, and a lot of "beyond the veil" insights.

A charming paranormal romance with a splash of drama and comedy. Reminded me of the movies “Ghost” and “Kiss Me Goodbye.” The ensemble characters (minus Deek - and maybe the realtor, although credit to her for being persistent) are lovable and you root for happy endings.

This was a nice paranormal romance.

I was wary of it at first, but quickly couldn't put it down. It's one of those books that make you want to stay up all night just finish it. I liked the out come and think this is good read.

***I received a free Kindle copy via Goodreads Giveaways in exchange for an honest review. ***

The author had a great concept, with poor execution.
After about 50 pages, I started speed reading, by 100, I was skimming. Curiosity got the best of me and I wanted to see where this was headed, so I swiped until the end. I regret the hour and a half or so, spent on this.

I was immediately put off by the odd spacing and gaps in the format, as well as the simplistic writing and stiff dialogue. The author writes as if she has never had an actual conversation with another human being, instead it's giving AI generated vibes. Everything lacks emotion, with cardboard characters and flat, elementary dialogue.

We have Grace, the lucky young lady who loses her job but inherits a house, the same day. Not just any ole house, but a Malibu beach home that needs a "little fixing up". Her ex boss has a bed and appliances sent over but then, over the course of almost month, our haunted Grace proceeds to pay for cleaning services, an exterior paint job, an interior paint job, new screens, another new bed, curtains, bedding, all while not once looking for a new job or worrying about a light or energy bill, water, gas, trash, phone, internet. She jets off to grab lunch and pick up random items, like industrial fans (cuz those are cheap), paint and ALLL its supplies, as well as chairs, a couch, a table (all delivered!) Maybe she had a decent nest egg before being fired but doubtful since she was living with a bf of 4 months. Her little bit of severance pay and extra bonus from her boss wouldn't last a month at the rate she was spending, in the area she lived. Homegirl wasn't picking up cheap stuff at the local Walmart. Perhaps, if this ex head of a banking dept owned her own little studio apartment and sold it after being given a beach house, I could buy into her nonchalant way of life, of taking a month to read some 100+ year old letters, and frolicking near the ocean with her dead not-lover.

Speaking of which, I would be damned if a live man would talk to me the way Rett does her. Jealous, controlling, vague and temperamental does not make for a sexy ghost love story. It makes Grace look pathetic and desperate, all her screaming and crying at God, her childish attempt at not leaving, putting others in danger, all for a man that pouts cuz she is "flirting" in texts, only making French Toast, cuz the other man is there, putting on makeup for someone else...basically what every narcissistic control freak partner does.

Kinda of a bad aunt to not tell your niece that her live-in BF tried to play grab ass.

Chenille deserved such a better portrayal than what she got. Every female in this book is irrational and a stereotype. Chenille and her story needed more depth and nuance.

I can forgive the plain journal entries written by a lonely man in 1902, but the uninspiring present day back and forth was worse than a 8th grade play. The author lacked the ability to make us feel like we were at a beach side house, surrounded by growing friendships and a budding supernatural romance, choosing instead to tell us everything, sometimes twice, instead of painting a picture. We get basic colors and a bunch of simple words. So much talking with NOTHING being said.

I've read plenty of books that were dialogue and internal monogue heavy. I have no problem with that style book, but when it's done poorly, it makes for a painful reading experience.

I'm not sure if the positive reviews are from friends, family, paid readers or if people are just too nice to be honest when they win a book, but this is not a 4 star book.
The author needs a new editor/proofreader, as several typos in the form of correctly spelled words that weren't the intended word snuck in. She could use a true friend too, someone honest, who, out of love, refuses to kiss ass and will tell her this isn't a great story, that she needs to flesh out an actual book instead of partial script outline.

Ghost vibes

Grace got fired from her job, even though her elderly boss didn't want to let her go. Already feeling horrific, she returns home to find her schmuck of a fiance in bed with another woman. Her luck finally changes when she finds out her boss gave her an old family home. Downside? It's haunted. This is her story of how she came to accept living with a ghost. Very Ghost, but without Whoopi.

“I wait for you, I count the minutes, when there are no longer divisions.”

I Thank Jennifer Loy for the gifted copy of her book “Whispers By The Window”!

I'd heard great things about this book but still remained skeptical about the whole ghosts + romance thing. Eh, really? Ghosts are somewhere down near zombies on the sexiness scale, could I really become invested in such a relationship? Apparently yes, but these ghosts have also found a way around the whole touching predicament (Although there seems to be a lot of rules on what a ghost can/cannot do) through dreams.

The overall premise is that Grace is jobless and then finds out about her cheating live-in boyfriend and is hence homeless. Her ex-employer who was basically her guardian (when she lost her parents at a young age) leaves her a huge property by the beach side. Once she arrives there, she starts hearing whispers and feels the presence of another entity in her house. She starts researching about the place and the ghost inhabiting her home. The more she digs into his life, his family, and his past, the deeper in she gets.

This was a sweet, romantic paranormal mystery with some Ghost and Mrs.Muir vibes. And at first I was pleasantly surprised. I found myself devouring chapter after chapter and enjoying all aspects of the story. I loved the characters and their relationships with one another. The witty banter with a touch of sarcasm is amusing. The main character/heroine can make or break a book like this and Grace immediately got into my good books by punching her cheating boyfriend, saving her friend ’’Chenille” from an abusive relationship, and picking up and starting her life over almost overnight! - no damsels in distress here!

The writing style is very ‘YA’ - some might like it but I would have preferred a more ‘NA’ style writing. Also, at times, the timelines on our side and the other side and the rules that govern them can get very confusing. I was expecting a closure/clarity of the time-loops by the end of the book but unfortunately didn’t get one. The ending was distant from reality and very ’Deus ex machina’ and I am just not convinced.
