Firstly thanks to Book Shelter Books for the review copy of this book. This is a unique style of puzzle book that I think could and should be really popular. It's got a good mix of puzzle/riddle difficulty, some of them being exceptionally difficult at least for me and having that safety net of the QR code for hints and then solutions was the only way I was getting through a couple of those pages. It's a nice overlaying story of rescuing Santa, one that will appeal to families in the lead up to Christmas, and it's something I think would be good to have with a group of people working through rather than just solo. Overall though, the style is interesting and different, definitely not your average puzzle book, really testing and frustrating in places which makes it so much more rewarding when you do find the solutions yourself. I'd recommend it, and will be finding a family member or friend to be passing this copy on to for sure. I'd give the book a 4/5.
The Escape Room Advent Calendar by Clue Craft 24 days to see if you can solve the mystery, and save Christmas. Each day there’s a new puzzle to solve, puzzles are varied and of different levels of difficulty, some I solved quite quickly, and others took a little more brain power. On each Day’s puzzle page there’s a QR code which takes you to a weblink for you to enter your answer to see if you are correct, here you can also request up to 2 hints to help you, if you’re still struggling you can then request how to solve the puzzle, and if it’s completely beaten you then you can request the solution. I liked having this safety net with different levels of guidance to support you.
What a brilliant idea! Ditching the calender replete with stale chocolates and replacing it with a puzzle a day...less calories, more stress!
I love a good puzzle, but some of these had me flummoxed. Luckily each puzzle comes with a QR code that you can scan that takes you to a web page where you can check if your answer is correct - if it isn't you have the option of having a clue or two - or you can cheat entirely and get the answer...why you would do that beats me...where's the fun in that?
Each night both myself and my partner would take turns to see who could solve the puzzle first.
