Upon arriving in Ilulissat, Greenland, Gannon and Wyatt prepare for the adventure of a lifetime--a dogsled expedition in the Arctic! But before the explorers even crack a whip, they receive a desperate mayday call from an Inuit family that is stranded in the far north. Suddenly, Gannon and Wyatt's expedition to study climate change and Greenlandic culture turns into something far more dangerous--a mission to save lives. As they rush north to rescue the family, led by Inuit guides, the brothers must steer clear of deadly hidden crevasses, hungry polar bears, and bitter cold as they race into an Arctic super-storm, putting even more lives in jeopardy--their own. In the tradition of the historic journals kept by explorers such as Lewis and Clark, Dr. David Livingstone, and Captain James Cook comes the adventure series Travels with Gannon and Wyatt . From Africa to the South Pacific, these twin brothers have traveled the world. You never know what they will encounter as they venture into the wild, but one thing is certain wherever Gannon and Wyatt go, adventure is their constant companion. You can find Gannon and Wyatt's blog, photographs, and video footage from their real-life expeditions at travelswithgannonandwyatt.com.
There are a lot of things that I really enjoy about the Gannon & Wyatt series. First, I love visiting different countries and following the characters on their different adventures. Second, while there is much in each book that is educational, the adventures take precedence over any messages. Plus, these books are based on the real-life travels and adventures of a real set of twins named Gannon & Wyatt (see http://travelswithgannonandwyatt.com/) In this volume of the series, the twins are visiting Greenland as part of a project documenting global warming and its effects. While there, the get to put their newly acquired dog sledding skills into action. Things start off well, but take a turn for the worse when the group gets news of a native Inuit family who is stranded on the ice when their dogs get sick. As Gannon & Wyatt and their guides head off to help the family, a massive storm hits and Wyatt gets lost. With a damaged sled, Wyatt is unable to continue and must build himself a temporary shelter, hoping that someone will be able to find him. But as the storm continues to rage, Gannon and the guides must make some difficult choices about what to do and who to help. The inclusion of actual photographs makes the story feel all the more real. This is a fabulous series for students interested in traveling or nature.
Another wonderful book in this series! Twin brothers, Gannon and Wyatt, travel across Greenland by dogsled, racing to the rescue of a native group of travelers whose dogs have mysteriously fallen ill. Battling the harsh winds and below freezing temperatures, they will need every bit of courage and strength to survive.
I love the writing in these books! You can really feel the desperation of the characters, their awe at the beauty of Greenland, and their struggle to find the inner strength to endure such harsh conditions. It's a really emotional story, with lots of action and danger too. I love finding out about new cultures and different ways of life, and getting to know the terrain and wildlife of Greenland as well. There's a lot of good information peppered throughout the story, but it never slows down the action. Such an enjoyable read!

Imagine being able to travel the world, one adventure after another! This time, twins Gannon and Wyatt are headed to Greenland and an adventure in the Arctic when they go on a dogsled expedition in the freezing North. Their adventure becomes a dangerous trek in the race against time and the elements to save a family trapped in the far north. Freezing temperatures, wild animals and deadly landscape put their own lives in danger. If not for the bravery of their Inuit guide, being trapped and alone may have cost Wyatt his life.
Adventure, imagination and youth go hand in hand. Even the reluctant reader will be swept into this tale as they feel the cold, the wind and pure adrenaline rush of the freedom of unleashed on a dogsled.
Travels with Gannon and Wyatt: Greenland by Patti Wheeler, is one more adventure to fuel a young mind with all the possibilities in life. Wonderful writing, wonderful illustration.
I received an ARC edition in exchange for my honest review from the publisher.

An excellent addition to the travels with Gannon and Wyatt series, this installment takes place in the ice covered country of Greenland. I enjoyed the accompanying photographs. The photo of the crevass was especially interesting, as I could see how, when the sun is at certain angles, these crevasses could be difficult to see until one was a bit closer to them than is comfortable. I also like how the Gannon and Wyatt books are educational as well as entertaining and would recommend these books to any young person interested in adventures in the great outdoors. The book was well-written (in journal-style) and easy to follow. This book was won from the Goodreads.com website.
Travels With Wyatt and Gannon: Greenland Patti Wheeler, Keith Hemstreet Travels With Wyatt and Gannon series Action/ Adventure Juvenile
Review: Wyatt and Gannon are on an adventure in Greenland. Now for those of you who are not familiar with Greenland, do not let the name fool you. Greenland is covered in snow and ice and even when it’s not snow covered there is not much that is green about it. Wyatt and Gannon are going with an Uncle and his nephew to the Ice Sheet to test why the climate has drastically changed over the years and see if pollution is a factor. Once they are on their way, they learn that there is a group of Natives stuck way up north where the weather is very bad. Their dogs have become sick and they cannot get home until they are better. Wyatt, Gannon, and their guides need to rescue them before the storm and lack of food kill the group. This book was very heart wrenching and shows just how dangerous it is for those people who live in the Arctic. Many times throughout this story we are reminded of all the dangers one can encounter up north. From freak storms that last days, to polar bear attacks, it is not an easy life in Greenland. I love the insight not only into the dangers of living in Greenland, but also learning about their culture. They are like our Native Americans here in North America and believe that every part of an animal should be used and not wasted. They also have great respect for the animals in general especially the polar bear who provides for them in more than just material ways. Getting to see how a different culture lives is really fascinating. I recommend this story to young explorers who enjoy reading about the adventures of others. I also recommend this book to readers who enjoy a story that teaches them about other cultures. This book is wonderful because it has facts in it without overwhelming or boring boys or girls who may not read a lot.
I received a free ecopy of this book from Netgalley for my honest opinion.
I liked this book much more than I expected to. We read this as an extension to our studies of Greenland and we learned a lot. This book often had me practically holding my breath through the tension, there were times when I laughed out loud and I also had to try to read aloud through my tears. I definitely want to read more books from this series as we continue to study places around the world.
Cool book for people of all ages to learn some about Greenland in a super easy & fun way.
Some of the early plot elements challenged my belief suspension, but I later saw that they were needed in order to set up scenes that exposed elements of Greenland. Pretty rare find to get something like this about Greenland.
For those who have seen movies like "8 Below," "Snow Dogs," and "Balto," here is another story in which humans are dependent on their sled dogs to survive in a frozen wilderness. Wyatt and Gannon have traveled to Greenland to meet up with the guide who will take them on a trip into the Arctic Circle. They plan to gather data like temperatures on the Greenlandic ice sheet to report back to the Youth Exploration Society. Their guide, Unaaq, has taken their parents on a polar expedition before, and his nephew Nuka is very experienced and is also helping with the trip. But they get word that a group of villagers have been stranded on the ice because all of their dogs came down with a mysterious illness and can't pull the sleds. The boys decide to go with Unaaq and Nuka to try and rescue the villagers and keep them from starving out on the ice.
As with all of the books in this series, information about the geography, culture, and language of the area are worked into the journal entries the boys write during their trip. Details about what kinds of food are eaten, the clothing, and traditions fit easily into the story, but there are also plenty of scientific observations about climate change, pollution, and wildlife. Compared to some of the other books, this one seemed to put the boys into more danger just because of the unforgiving environment - imagine traveling through a land where an average January temperature is -40! I like the way the authors show the boys take the trip seriously by preparing beforehand. They research, practice working with sled dogs, and make sure to get qualified guides and the right sort of clothing and equipment.
Fans of the series will enjoy this installment, and newcomers will be pulled in to the exciting world travels of the twins very easily. Recommended for readers who enjoy travel and adventure stories, books that include conservation themes, and survival stories.
I read an e-book provided by the publisher through NetGalley.
Twin explorers, Gannon and Wyatt strike out again... for Greenland! They're dog-sledding, learning about Greenland's culture, and experiencing the extreme situations of the unique climate and frozen land.
This time they receive a Arctic mission to help Inuit villagers in need -- while facing deadly elements. Truly they're racing against time, or else the mission fails. Can they beat the polar bears, the ice crevasses, the cold winds, and keep their dogs on the right track?
The boys learn a lot in this book, not just about Greenland's unique culture and land -- but also human lessons about sacrifice and respect. They pen their thoughts down on all these topics (and more) in their journal. So we get to read all about their exploration from each boy's perspective.
I like how the reader gets to learn about geography, foreign languages and other educational tidbits in a fictional story -- or rather, an exciting adventure!
Thanks to the author and Netgalley for the free review copy & for the opportunity to express my honest opinions.
My son and I have read all of the available Gannon and Wyatt books and this last one did not disappoint. Like the others it was adventurous and exciting. The danger and uncertainity of traveling on the arctic ice as well as the strength and courage of those who do so was addressed throughout the story. It was not treated as a journey to be undertaken lightly and without careful consideration. I appreciated how the indigenous peoples, their customs, and beliefs were always treated with respect. This story was bitter sweet in the events leading to the end of the story and it left me feeling a little sad but also amazed and,in a way, encouraged by the courage and selflessness of the boys and their guides as they undertake a perilous and uncertain journey to the rescue of others;and the final sacrifice of one to save another. Another fun and exciting adventure that kept us on the edge of our seat as we read and traveled with Gannet and Wyatt! I highly recommend this and the other books for any kid who likes adventure, excitement, suspense and travel to unfamiliar places!

If you have a child between 8 and twelve who loves adventure stories then Travels With Gannon and Wyatt would be a book to have.
In this book Gannon and Wyatt travel to Greenland where nothing is actualy green.
In this book Gannon and Wyatt face being hunted by a Polar Bear when they are going sledding with the dogs. It talks about the extreme cold they face. Somehow Wyatt gets stranded in the storm and it is only because his giide risks his life that he manages to survive because he nearly did die of hypothermia.
I give five out of five stars for this adventure packed Childrens Novel.
This time the twin lads are off to the snow-clad island at the top of the world. Here to help take surveys for a climate change study, they team up with a young Greenland boy and a weathered dog-team guide.
Gannon and Wyatt each keep journals, and we see photos of the outdoor clothing, a helicopter landing on ice and the strong huskies.
The lads learn that a small village in the high Arctic needs food and medicine, as their sled dogs have mysteriously fallen ill. Can their five-day trek across the ice cap get them to the village in time?
I thoroughly enjoyed the three previous books and a young person you know would get a great adventure and plenty of interesting facts from this tale.
Exploring Greenland for their Young Explorers Club, their leader hears that a group of native people are stranded on the ice with sick dogs; their food is almost gone and they cannot travel far without their dogs.
Gannon and Wyatt’s expedition changes to help rescue them along with their leader, and along the way experience the worst of the Arctic – a hungry polar bear that may stop at nothing – and an Arctic super storm so intense that traveling is impossible – and the dangerous crevasses that can too easily trap a sledder and his dogs.
This is a terrific addition to an incredible series – lots of adventure and a little learning, too!
Ready, set, let's hit the road on this next great adventure with Gannon & Wyatt!!! This series will certainly entertain & keep you waiting for the next release!!! Great reading for all ages!! Don't wait.... Get reading!!!!
This might be my favorite adventure yet. I actually felt like I was on the dog sled trip with them. Kudos to all involved in the creation of this series!
