A summer job working as a sailing cruise captain didn’t pay great, but it wasn’t the worst job I’d ever had.
It was supposed to be just another work day on the water. Then my boat got sucked into a massive whirlpool that spat me and four stunningly beautiful college girls out in some insane fantasy pirate land.
As captain, the girls are all looking to me to keep us afloat in a crazy new world chock-full of vicious pirates, magical sword fights and sea monsters unlike anything I could’ve ever imagined.
This book is fairly generic when it comes to haremlit. It honestly felt like it written by one of the book mills, so maybe the author was once a hired gun for one of them.
The MC, a college student, works for a sailboat charter/tour service. He captains a smaller sized sailboat. 4 women from a college "book club" sign up for a charter, and lo-and-behold, one of them is the MC's college dream girl. They get out off the shore of Boston, and a sudden whirlpool sucks them into another world. This might have been believable in they were in the Bermuda Triangle, instead of within sight of the coast of Massachusetts. They wake up on another coastline, the boat having hung up on some rocks maybe a mile off the shore of some island.
The potential harem members are 4 very good friends, including the one the MC has a hankering for. They are all generic. You could change their names around and not notice any difference in their personalities. There is also a 5th woman, whom they rescue from pirates, who happens to be a noblewoman. She's generic, as well. They have no personalities, no quirks, just bodies and faces.
This book has the MC doing everything, taking a lot of "seat of the pants, barely making it past each problem" chances in an effort to feel like an action movie. But most of the chances he takes are fairly boneheaded in my opinion.
I will not be reading the next book in this series.
The characters are fun, and the story has a good pace. Lots of action and adventure. But for the live of a merciful god mad do some research!!! As a lifelong sailor, who has owned and lived aboard this sailing portions were watching a train wreck in slow motion. I continued reading out of movie fascination at what the author would get wrong next. Even a modicum would improve the story immensely! Logan's captains license should be revoked for ineptitude. First a 40 sailboat would not have an outboard! You shorten sail in a storm, the mast and boom holds the main sail, not a beam. Beam is the width of the craft. It is a helm, not a steering wheel, it is not a steering column it is a binnacle post that holds the compass, no charter boat lacks one. There should be foul weather gear for the crew. Not sure if I will bother with the next book. A good read if you know nothing about sailing.
The story follows a coastal cruise cabin and his passengers has they are sucked away to new world of pirates of the Caribbean in a low fantasy setting lay magical things do happen the story fills more like some got pulled into 17hundreds.
Lay the story has some wish filament parts with how every pretty woman is putty in the caption hands, normally I wouldn’t have a problem but the girls just felt like add-ons with no unique skills to help but to act has fan service.
Went a little off the rails (in a fun way) in the last 3rd of the book, tons of nonstop action. I was concerned about 4 of the harem being revealed right from the start, however of the 4 girls initially on the boat only 1 gets with the MC and the other three haven't shown major signs of being into him. This doesn't mean they are going to be totally against it in the future, but I'm betting one of the other girls that joined in the book will be the next.
Another fun read. The author is an accomplished storyteller and although he has only one other book listed on Kindle, the lack of spelling errors, grammar errors and proofreading mistakes indicates an author who takes pride in his work. Not that there weren’t a few minor questions left unanswered, but it is a fantasy story. Highly recommended!
The story was a nice and quick diversion. This seems like it could be the opening volley in a much larger world with only a slight glimpse of the systems. Interested to see what the author does with it.
