What in the mindfuck fuckery unhinged hell did I just read it ?????
I love it ! Lol !
This book is confusing AS hell for at least 60% into. We have our FMC Amethyst, she is a unstable mentally ill girl, she has hallucinations and she can remember anything before age of 10. She was severely manipulated and abuse and she is heavily medicated. She doesn’t know what is reality and what is her imagination/hallucinations. And we don’t either….. She killed one of her abusers when she was a teenager but she wasn’t convicted due to the abuse she was suffering so insanity was the plea and from then on her life was even more confusing. She sees a mugshot of a criminal that is now in death row , he is insanely gorgeous and had a disgusting amount of women sending letters to him and trying to have a relationship. and so Amy gets fascinated by him and also send him a letter. But unlike the others, he actually gets intrigued by her letter with a “pussy scent” (yep you heard it). He is Xero and he is a trained assassin from a group that was created by his father, a group that gets kids and mold them into assassins and the girls into Lolita assassins. I am familiar with the Moirai group because of this author other series “the morally black”. So Xero is hellbent in destroying the DISGUSTING organization and kill his father. And now Amy is in the middle of this all because she somehow connects with everything but she can’t remember and her mental state is fragile. Xero wants to unlock her memories and she wants that too. They really do fall in love and the spicy is good. But let me advise you that this book is DARK and everything that happens might be too much for some people. Also you have to be patient to get into the explanations because it’s confusing. My only complaint is that it was a tad long and there’s a whole second book that is just as long. This one ends in a cliffhanger and I already started the second one. I enjoy this author a lot. I would recommend listening to this book because the audio is fantastic, it feels like you are in a movie with all the special effects
edit: GUYS MY CURIOUSITY GOT THE BEST OF ME AND I FOUND OUT WHAT THEY USED THE THIGH BONE FOR😭 I SHOULD HAVE STAYED CURIOUS 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭 ------------------------------------------------- Dnf 40% This is just way too long 😭 get to the point Gigi plz damn🤣 it's not bad but it is taking forever to actually get to the point. I think the plot has potential but the way we keep actually avoiding the interesting part of the plot is annoying me. I may come back to it if I develop the patience for it( and bcz I want to know what they did with that thigh bone lol), but the fact that it's a duet is pissing me off even more🤣 ---------------- Prereview This has one of the longest trigger warnings lists I have ever seen💀 wdym improper use of a thigh bone???????? Let's hope this isn't cringy🙏
It ends on a cliffhanger, and it’s a mind-f—k of a crazy, wild ride. For how long it was, I think it could have been just one book. But hey, what do I know? Welp, I'm off to read the next book, I Will Mend You.
Before reading, remind THIS ENDS ON A CLIFFHANGER!!! so if you wanna wait, please do.
I had my feelings with this book all over the place because of Amethyst hallucinations. It was frustrating in the beginning. I couldn't tell if it was her mind or Xero playing games to break her mind. Until you get mid and you see the plan slowly coming out. Now, at first, I felt sad for Amethyst because the stuff Xero played on her mind when she told him about her mental health problems and the games he played. Even if she did desever a little pain for what she did to him. She was betraying him and wanting to sell his story by the way he was on deathrow. Still wrong of her, but the way he did it was still wrong.
Their chemistry was good. They had a love/hate relationship going on no matter what Ame did. Xero still loved her. With whoever is trying to kill her, he's making sure she's protected.
Now, the thing that has me confused is the video and the ending!! If he truly did that to her, that is the most fked up betrayal. Or was that all in Ame mind? Well, I have to wait for book 2 to see. And the ending... did anyone else know about that!!
Angst, no ow/om drama (unless you count the end), no cheating, drama, slight secondary character, sexy times, no virgins

3.5 stars The entire time I was seriously questioning who was actually alive in this book and who wasn’t, which I guess is the entire point. At first I was like Xero obviously avoided the electric chair somehow and is still alive, but the more Amy was thinking, the more I started to think that was wrong.. At some point I was wondering if they were both dead and this was some ghost story.. or if Amy was actually dead and just didn’t realize it. The little ghost nickname really did throw me off. The fact that I couldn’t tell made me love this book more.
The ending.. yeah consider me shocked, I was not expecting it to go that way with the twin situation at all. That thought didn’t even cross my mind.
I absolutely loved Xero, he can do no wrong in my eyes. But truthfully, this entire duet was too long. The first book was how many pages and the plot got absolutely nowhere.

I have a lot to talk about! But the general consensus over the book was "Write a review when you go back to normal".
So here I'm after a long meal and an equally long shower dissecting how flabbergasted I was and disappointed in one of my "babies authors". Yes, I've adopted Gigi Styx along with her brand of "dark" and "crazy". She made her debut last year and I discovered her right away and loved her complicated stories.
But this one left me empty. Enough about my personal feelings and let's get into the book. At first, I loved how the story kicked right away. As if there is no beginning, you're in the middle of action and the events keep getting more and more intense.
FMC: Amy is a delusional mentally ill patient. She gets severe hallucinations of objects being placed and then disappearing and reappearing. Much worse, she hallucinates about the people she killed. But she kills in self defense. Her first is a teacher who raped her when she was 13. The second is a man who broke into her house to violate her because he doesn't approve of her social media content.
Her social media content is quite interesting. Amy is the goth girl with snakes intricated in her black corset and a crucifix hanging between her breasts. She's also the girlfriend of a murderer.
A murderer who is in death row. And she established a whole fan-base for him. She's in the process to write a book about their relationship too.
Which brings us to Xero: MMC. He's been killing since 10 years old I guess. He was seasoned to be a ruthless assassin and he got caught by the police holding the heart of his stepmother so he's going to get the death penalty.
Xero, received plenty female letters while in prison. His mugshot got viral and all women who fantasize about "Ted Bundy" I guess sent him letters. But he only responded to Amy's: a) because she's seen his inner darkness. b) because she confessed to being a killer too c)because she sent the letter with her pussy smell!!!
I have a huge doubt about the possibility of exchanging those letters because the police is supposed to monitor every thing especially the gifts of death row prisoners. Nevertheless, Amy and Xero built up a strong connection reascending into love.
In the day Xero is supposed to fry on an electric chair, he asked Amy to be his wife and to be his in this life and beyond. That will permit them a conjugal visit in order to touch each other for the first time before it's too late.
But Amy never showed up (she had a lame excuse that never convinced me) and Xero was electrocuted until fire emerged from his brain.
Here's when the haunting of Amy begins. Every night there is a ghost that comes to her in the cloth of a grim-reaper. He would practice somnophilia on her. (Every night! who gets turned on by that?)
He would humiliate and degrade her. Put her in collars in order to walk her like a dog.
Put a noose around her neck and lift her into the ceiling and order her to slap her breasts.
Drugging her and tampering with her pshych medications. Suck her fingers and toes while she's asleep. Leaving her the tongues/ fingers/ testicles of every man he got jealous of.
Cuming in her water bottles. (Fuck you Xero, respect the secret of life! I gagged when she described her water as salty)
Impaling her on a metal rod covered by a huge dildo and Force her to watch two men raping each other. (I cant' get the scene out of my head! it was that traumatizing!!!)
You may ask me: was there reasons behind each incident? The answer is no!!! Every chapter there is a new level of unhinged unlocked with no context. It's like the author picked up a manual of BDSM and starting writing a chapter per kink.
Because outside of that haunting nothing progresses in the story. Xero's "ghost" blames Amy for forsaking him. But he protects her from danger. She hates him for terrorizing her and yet she loves him.
Between all that nonsensical love-hate: basically people they know are being murdered (by one of them or some dark organization that wants to frame them) and the police takes resident on the street of FMC and yet no one sees her running into the streets/woods and cemetery to have primal kink sex with Xero who turns out not to be ghost.
He's like god knowing every thing happening in private to Amy but he survived the chair somehow. He's very much a human. Albeit a vengeful one.
Here's when I got fed up and nothing made scene to me anymore. I went back to the 3pages trigger warnings. There are a lot of words that ended with PHILIA that I did not want to discover and counting down all the kinks or monstrous things that I already read, I had so much to come so I wasn't up to continue.
Since it's a 540 pages book, I went to the end to see who's the next couple might be. Heals! it's about Xero and Amy again. It's a fucking duet that ends on a cliff-hanger when Amy sets Xero's body on fire (bet you he's not going to die) and she discovers that maybe she has a sister/ clone/ doppelganger maybe?!!
Anyway, I hope Gigi gets her shit together as soon as possible cuz this book hadn't been cute :*
Damn. This started off pretty good. Very interesting plot, seemingly interesting characters. Then it just went to shit and became so repetitive that I lost total interest. It's way too freaking long and I hate read the last half of it. By the end, I just wanted the FMC to die. I honestly can't believe there's a whole other book to follow this. UPDATE: You know in the soap opera Days of Our Lives - how Marlena was possessed by the devil, Stefano came back to life 15 thousand times, Kristen had an evil twin nobody knew about, nearly every single person in the cast had been killed and brought back to life MULTIPLE times - that's what this is - except it's not as entertaining. I read the second book and holy hell it should all go in the garbage.
Amethyst Crowley(24, psycho bitch) is supposedly in love with her prison pen pal, Xero Greaves(29, pierced dick), who is on death row for murder. Blah blah they make some plans that should happen before his execution, but things go to shit when she receives a letter & picture in the mail. From there.... well that's where all the mysteries and nonsense of the story starts and if I give you any more of a description, then you'd already know the story.
AMETHYST: I hate this bitch. Damn - I'll just put this crap under spoilers.
SEX: Meh. There was one, maybe two hot scenes - but there were way more scenes with objects. Halfway thru and I honestly didn't care anymore. I don't care how much sex is in it - if I hate the characters, then I don't care if they fuck or not.
RAPE: This is a classic rape trope, IMO. There's just so much emphasis on rape and attempted rapes that it loses its potency. At the end you're like, "oh great. another rape". Think of something else. Be creative in your torture.
REPETITION: This is one of the main things that killed it for me. The same feelings were repeated OVER AND OVER AND OVER. Same story repeated about 50 times in the book.
TRIGGERS: Rape and torture. The normal stuff. You should def check out the author's warnings before attempting to read this.
As you can tell - I wasn't impressed with this book. I gave it 2 stars because in the beginning it was pretty good. Even though I wasn't a fan of this book - other people were, so def don't just use my review as a deciding factor.
Ok - this is FULL of spoilers. I'm putting it here so I can remember why I hated this book so much. If you plan to read the book - DON'T READ MY SPOILERS.
5⭐️ 4 🌶️ What the F*CKKKKKKKK!!! THIS BOOOKKKKKKKK!!!! 😱😱😱
This book had me in an absolute chokehold!! The twists, the turns, the lies, the mystery!! It’ll leave you questioning every word you read. It’ll leave you scratching your head reading as fast as humanly possible to get to the answers because you have ZERO idea what is real and what isn’t!!!
This book has so many trigger warnings and graphic scenes that I was shocked how any dark romance could be THAT dark but once I started reading it I realised that actually, the the most offensive part of this entire thing is that it’s boring af. This book has 102 chapters and I had to push myself to make to chapter 59 and by that point I was like, why am I doing this? Why am I torturing myself? Why and I wasting my time like this? I need someone to do a study on how something so dark and controversial can be so incredibly boring. I’m not even calling it boring to seem cool and edgy, I can’t stand when people act desensitised, non empathetic etc. this truly is just boring. I mean this with my whole heart when I say I would rather play in traffic over reading this ever again.
first and foremost this book was ungodly long and for what? this all could have been said and still been 200 pages shorter because 664 pages was crime.
I liked how twisty and confusing it was, I liked that it was a mind fuck and because Amethyst has such a fragile mental state you couldn't be sure of what's real.
but what the helly was that ending? I blinked once at we were derailed into a damn canyon because what happened?
it did remind me quiet a lot of cat and mouse duet and the book did have it's interesting moment but it also felt so dragged and the actual plot only started after 50% percent which for a book this long, is too damn much!
if UTI was a book it would be this one, starting with the expensive face cream as lube and ending around dusty bones in places where no dusty bones should be.
will I finish the duet and read book two? yes, because I want to see what happens. at some point, but not right now because I fear it would put me in a reading slump especially considering it's around the same length. so I'm gonna read some other stuff first and then come back.
This was… something. I spite read it and I’m not entirely sure I glad I did. 1.75⭐️ because this is generous and I have read worse.
Straight up? The FMC Amethyst… is hard to read, not because she’s insanely mentally disturbed, but because she’s been through so much and is still… I don’t even know how to really put her into words. Like had no ability to A. Cut her parents off, B. Find a different therapist that’s OBVIOUSLY not having her best interests at heart…. And C. Self publish. Iykyk. She was overall just hard to get, and I don’t like how she was written. But that might just be me. Oh and she can see ghosts? Or can’t? It’s kinda glossed over and I just don’t get it. Oh and she is a child assassin too? wtf.
Xero, the MMC, is well… a zero in my opinion. He thinks he was using him for clout and then five minutes later he’s understanding, oh but psych he is back to thinking she’s used his internet fame for clout. But constantly forgets she only started it after gaining his permission. His continued contradictions are infuriatingly stupid. If he’s this super smart ex child assassin then surely you think the man would understand? No? Okay, guess not. You’re not that amazing sweetie, take a chill pill.
Literally so much but so little happens in the first quarter of the book. I really can’t say I enjoyed it much at all, until the end when the plot kind of improved. But not enough to make me want to read the second book, or any other book by this author if this is the style she writes with. It wasn’t THAT good. I don’t understand the high reviews because it was tepid at best in my opinion.

-THIS LOOKS SO EXCITING WHAT!?!? -'f*ck pals' was such a good title, plssss keep it as that. -after reading breaking rosalind i know who's book is this and i'm so excited
I must say, I have not read a book by Gigi Styx that does not leave me wanting more. After finishing the first 3 books in the Morally Black Series (book 4 WIP) I automatically jumped to this Pen Pal Duet because these men written by Gigi are TO DIE FOR.
Amethyst is an up and coming author that shoots her shot with the latest criminal in town (he has a mugshot that has everyone on their knees for him – including her). What other way is there for him to accomplish that than to get rid of anyone that dares lay a finger on her? IYKYK
The secret they discover is one I didn't see coming. It was hard to put this book down from the beginning but once that was revealed I had to finish! THIS CLIFFHANGER??? EXCUSE ME???? WHAT NOW??? I Will Mend You is Book 2 and I need to read it ASAP!!!
This book is a terrible mess which is such a pity because the idea itself was very promising. Even from the very begging it felt like I was reading a sequel, I was like wait, is this the second book? I had to check twice to make sure there was no part before it. The author doesn’t give you the time to ease into the story, she just slams it at your face assuming you already know the main and even secondary characters. There are pages and pages and pages about absolutely nothing. Almost nothing in this book makes sense, the actions of the characters, their motives and reasons, the hows and whys things happen…they just do. I really don’t know how to explain the weird feeling I got from this book. I finished it just to make sure I “read it right” and I am sorry to say I regret the time I spent on this.
This book is probably one of the most unhinged dark romance novels I've read this year. I definitely see this book ruffling a lot of feathers. People are either going to be over the moon in love with it or be completely repulsed and hate it.
I personally am I huge lover of both dark romance and psychological thrillers, and this was the perfect blend. It's a fast-paced and intense story, with unreliable narrators and some of the nastiest smut....what's not to love?
I received a copy in exchange for an honest review.
It was ok overall and one of the most unhinged things I have ever read. Duet narration was good at least.
This book had no right being 102 chapters long for the type of story it is, and there’s a second book that I most likely won’t read because why does this story have to be so protracted.
I am not quite sure what I even just read and I might be traumatised forever.
We Have ✅ M/F Romance ✅ Dark Romance ✅ Stalking ✅ Obsession ✅ OTT Possessive ✅ Touch Her and Die ✅ Mystery ✅ BDSM
This book started out strong. The writing, the plot, the mystery—I was all the way in. The twists (yes, plural) had my jaw on the MF floor. I was devouring this book like it was my last meal. BUT HOLY SHYT—that ending?! Never in a million years did I think that’s where this was going. WOW. Just wow. 😳
Now, let's talk about the smut—it’s smutting in all the best ways. Hot, plentiful, and the narrators on the audio version? Fucking amazing. Absolutely delicious.
But here’s where my love starts to fray… that damn miscommunication trope. Not just sprinkled in—oh no, it’s marinated all up and through this gat damn story. And if that wasn’t enough, its FULL of the “Ross and Rachel” trope—you know, that make up, break up, make up, break up bullshit? 😩 I get that there are mental health themes woven into the story, and sure, that explains some of it… but holy Fuck does it piss me off. It’s low-key ruining this series for me.
I’ve just started I Will Mend You, and not gonna lie—I’m hate reading at this point. This is REALLY REALLY close to being my first ever DNF. 😤 For now I'll continue with the hate read.
BUT if those tropes don’t get under your skin like they do mine? Oh, you’re in for a wild ride. This will be a solid 4-5 star read for most folks.
Format: Audiobook Narrators: Madison Mitts and Theodore Zephyr Genre: Dark Psychological Romance
⚠️CHECK THE TRIGGER WARNINGS⚠️
✨Audiobook Review✨ This will be a ZERO SPOILER review. It's better to go in blind. This was so much more than I originally thought it would be. I kind of jumped in blind after seeing a review on TikTok. This is a duet so this ends on a cliffhanger. Madison Mitts and Theodore Zephyr are both new narrators to me but, WOW! They were amazing. I look forward to hearing them again.
I cannot stress enough - read /listen to the trigger warnings. The list is long and had me Googling some new terms 😉 I'm not sure if this storyline was supposed to be a dark comedy, but I found several of the situations laugh-out-loud funny. Whether or not it’s my weird sense of humor or it was intended to be that way, I found that was thoroughly entertained.
I was a little confused when the book first started but stick with it because everything will start to come together soon enough. The spice was off the charts spicy and LOTS of it. I'm fine with a storyline full of spice if there is a decent plot sprinkled in and this one has that. I am immediately jumping into part two.
Do I recommend? Yes!

I couldn't put this book down. It's intense! Wasn't sure who I loved the most, but Gigi definitely did an exceptional job writing and keeping me hanging on every page.
This book was absolutely amazing. It was dark and full of twists I never seen coming. This is a thick book but it never once lost my attention. I can’t wait for the second book. Highly recommend!
There I was, minding my business on Discord, when a friend sends me an Instagram reel dictating a voice-acted scene from a spicy novel. I hear "fuck her cake" and "Good evening, Xeromaniacs" and all of a sudden, the wheels start turning in my head at full speed. My roommate can attest--I had the expression of someone going absolutely rabid.
Here's the thing. I'm a freelance editor and beta reader: a pretty fair but critical one, I'd say. I'd beta read this book--and its sequel--months ago, and I loved very nearly every second of it. If you're a fan of dark romance and everything that genre embodies, this is the book I wanted to recommend before it was published. Every bit of criticism I had for the likes of say, Haunting Adeline, this series delivered. Truly lively characters with flaws they grow from or continue to struggle with. Sexy scenes that had me, a lifetime reader, squealing about from my bedroom. The author's writing style not only exceeded the bare minimum of passable but truly had their own voice and a succinct grasp on details and immersion without scenes becoming too long-winded.
The plot is long. The concept is very, very dramatic. The details can be triggering. The characters have life of their own and this book, while tackling a lot of tough subjects, finds appropriate places for the love scenes and never fails, in my opinion, to give the reader a bit of breathing room from the worst of it. No piece of literature is truly perfect for everyone, but for me, this book is everything I expect and want from a dark romance with heavily horrific/thrilling themes. Let's be honest: if I wanted realistic, I wouldn't be in the dark romance aisle of the internet. Ask for drama, and Styx has you covered.
I swore I'd buy this book series if they ever published, and the first thing I did--after finally closing the Instagram reel that'd replayed four times in the background while my brain rebooted itself--was purchase the physical copies for my own bookshelf. I can't wait to re-read this series in its final evolution.
But until then, I Will Break You receives five stars across the board.
I don't know where to begin. Gigi Styx has a way with these characters. She entertains and keeps you guessing from the very beginning.
Pen pal turned fiance with an inmate on death row turns into a rollercoaster of twists and turns. What's real and what's a delusion? Who's who and what reality is she seeing?
