This outstanding book is clearly the work of a polished writer and experienced computer nerd. Whether you are new to the WordPress platform or are using it already, you'll find this book a valuable resource. Unlike others, it explains how best to use artificial intelligence (AI) to build or improve a WordPress-based website.

A flowchart on the very first page summarizes the AI tutorials in each of the book's 13 chapters. This thoughtfully included chart lets you jump directly to the chapter most relevant to your level of experience with WordPress. It also demonstrates how thoroughly AI can help you create and maintain a professional-quality website.

Chapter 1 may seem like a detour at first. It covers the recent rise of AI chatbots and AI-based graphic-design apps. In plain language, it explains their strengths, weaknesses, and peculiarities. It offers examples of "prompting" the AIs to generate and refine the results you want. This chapter could actually stand alone as an excellent tutorial for newcomers to AI technology, but it's much more -- it's an introduction to using these AI tools to get the most from WordPress. Later chapters build on this basic knowledge.

Mansfield's writing is always clear and direct, without the mumbo-jumbo and sloppy editing found in many rush-to-print books these days. He has obviously spent much time learning these new tools and inventing ways to apply them to website creation. Although Chapter 1 is indispensable for AI newbies, the rest of the book has many different entry points for readers of varied experience. I heartily recommend "WordPress Power Toolkit."

Informative guide to using various AI tools to assist in building WordPress websites. The tools relate to writing text, advising on design, analyzing design, generating images, developing plugins, generating CSS, search engine optimization (SEO), and more. The book includes a lot of other advice and resources related to building WordPress sites and non-WordPress sites.

The author shares additional info on the book's companion blog.

In the example prompts below, replace "X" with whatever is relevant to your site.

Notes

https://quillbot.com, https://www.grammarly.com, https://notebooklm.google have tools for writers (summarizers, plagiarism detection, paraphrasing, grammar and style checkers, etc.).

Most good prompts include role, job, context, format; the more specific, the better.

Tell AI its personality or expertise or both.

You can tell AI the tone to use (conversational, formal, etc.).

YellowPencil plugin generates CSS in WYSIWYG UI. CSS Hero is an alternative.

Starting A Website
Prompt to find domain names: "You’re an expert at marketing websites. List 10 domain names for a new site titled X. Make them catchy, memorable, and short. They don't need to end with .com. Be sure domain contains the word Y. For each domain, look for it on the Internet. If it's used, don't include it in your list."

Website Builder by SeedProd is a good "coming soon" plugin.

Site-Building Preliminaries
Prompt to find high-ranking sites: "You are an experienced website reviewer and critic. You’re also an expert X. List the URLs of the 5 most successful X websites in the world. Make sure these URLs are in use, and that they rank very high on Google searches using the keywords 'X.'"

Prompt to build navigation menu: "You understand website menu systems. Examine the menus and submenus of those 5 sites. List the parent pages and their child pages by combining all five sites’ menu hierarchies into a single ordered list."

https://10web.io does a decent job generating an entire site. Instant site builders aren’t great at generating effective navigation, choosing theme or plugins, or writing useful text, so use them mainly for design ideas.

Menu plugins
• UberMenu
• QuadMenu
• Max Mega Menu

Prompt to simplify nav menu: "That menu you created is too long. Can you list any main menu items that could be demoted to submenu items, combined with other items, put into a sidebar, or left off the menu completely?"

AI-Powered Writing
Use Fonts Plugin to add Google Fonts.

Prompt for font ideas: "What alternative typefaces would you suggest to give it more personality? Consider the topic of this website."

https://hemingwayapp.com analyzes and suggests improvements to writing.

Plagiarism detection
• Spelling and Grammar checking in MS Word
• Copyleaks
• Grammarly
https://undetectable.ai (can also "humanize" AI-generated content)

Adding Functionality With Plugins
Page builders
• Elementor
• Divi
• SeedProd

All in One SEO (AIOSEO) uses GPT to help find best post titles and meta descriptions.

WP Rocket is considered best all-around performance plugin.

Chatbots
• AI Engine
• Tidio – Live Chat & AI Chatbots
• Jetpack AI

Prompt for plugin suggestions: "You’re an experienced WordPress plugin critic. List the 3 most popular X plugins, and explain why you chose them."

BlogVault can be used for staging.

Cookie compliance plugins
• Complianz – GDPR/CCPA Cookie Consent
• GDPR Cookie Compliance – Cookie Banner, Cookie Consent, Cookie Notice – CCPA, DSGVO, RGPD
• Cookie Notice & Compliance for GDPR/CCPA

Accessibility
• Ensure typeface color strongly contrasts against background for readability.
• Ensure typeface is reasonably large for readability.
• Add alternative text (alt text) to images.
• Add captions to videos.

Plugins that claim to automate accessibility have raised legal issues (not fixing all problems, inadequate compliance). Better to do manually.

AI-Assisted Site Design Basics
Quality popular themes
• Astra
• OceanWP
• Divi
• SeedProd
• Ultra

Prompt AI for theme suggestions by describing your site.

Prompt for color scheme: "What's a good color scheme for X?"

Use rule of thirds by putting focal point where grid lines meet.

Prompt for finding competitor sites with good design: "List 5 award-winning X websites."

Prompt to evaluate site design: "You’re a professional website designer. Look at 4 of the best sites that feature X and see how their homepage designs look. Figure out what makes these other site’s designs so successful. What do they have in common? Then look at my site’s homepage that I uploaded. List the differences between those 4 successful sites’ designs and my design. And tell me how to improve my design."

Advanced Design Techniques
Free version of YellowPencil only saves some CSS properties, but it displays any CSS it generates. You can see it but not copy it, so you'll need to type it.

Prompt to generate CSS: "You are an expert CSS programmer. Create some CSS code that does X."

Mastering Multimedia
Recommended image dimensions (all 72 PPI)
• Background images (or other full-screen images): 1,920 × 1,080 px, 16:9, 400 KB
• Hero image: 1,280 × 720 px, 16:9, 200 KB
• Banner (header) image: 1,600 × 600 px, 5:3, 200 KB
• Ordinary page or post images: 1,200 × 630 px, 3:2 180 KB
• Logo (rectangular): 250 × 100 px, 2:3, 30 KB

Complaints of ADA violations are focused on “places of public accommodation” (e.g., motel, bakery, theater, store, gas station, lawyer’s office). If your site isn't ecommerce and isn't related to a brick-and-mortar store, you're less likely to be legally targeted.

Accessible-ready themes
• Twenty Twenty-One

• Astra
• GeneratePress
• Divi
• AccessPress Parallax

• Use punchy, short titles (9 or fewer words)
• Include active, emotive words (e.g., "confirmed," "alarming," "staggering," "revealing")

• Specifically describe how readers will benefit (e.g., save money)
… the Turing test … asks: Can a machine intelligence convincingly imitate our human conversation and thought processes? … I think this is the wrong question to ask. AI is an alien mind. … It might even have a more advanced logic than we do. Just because we could tell the difference between the conversation of the human and the AI, doesn’t mean the AI isn’t in its own way equal to humans, or superior. … It doesn’t think like us. So, determining if it’s sentient or conscious shouldn’t rest on how convincingly it imitates us.
