If you find the work of Lisa Feldman Barrett interesting, you should read Relief by Wassili Zafiris.

In this book, Wassili Zafiris doesn’t just explain the neuroscience behind emotions, prediction, and interoception, he explores what it actually means in practice. How do you work with these insights in coaching, therapy, behavioral change, leadership, stress, and relationships? That is where his RETaC method (Relation Emotion Therapy and Coaching) comes in.

He essentially translated Lisa Feldman Barrett’s work into a practical and remarkably powerful coaching method, built on decades of coaching experience and years of research of his own.

What I appreciate about this book is that it combines neuroscience, physiology, and coaching in a very grounded and practical way. Wassili explains complex topics like interoception and the emotional brain in a way that is accessible without oversimplifying them.

I’ve had the privilege of being trained and coached by Wassili himself, which means I’ve been able to experience the RETaC method extensively. As a coach working with leaders and teams, I’ve seen how powerful this work is in practice. The breakthroughs clients experience are often profound and, at times, genuinely life-changing. It has deeply influenced the way I understand emotional regulation, behavioral patterns, and sustainable change.

For me, this book is one of the first truly practical translations of the growing body of knowledge around interoception and the predictive brain and what these insights actually mean in practice.

As part of my work as a coach, I began attending various coaching training programs and learned to use different methodologies. Throughout these courses and in my coaching practice, I applied the methods repeatedly. While my clients experienced successful results, there were times when I wasn’t fully satisfied. Either because the issue resurfaced or seemed unsolvable. And because I didn’t have a solution at hand, I could only help my clients develop and transform to a certain extent.

RELIEF and the accompanying RETeC method have offered me a completely new perspective on change and on my work as a coach. The entire concept of a predictive brain, a prediction loop, and how this affects our emotional world is nothing short of revolutionary. I’ve learned that deep transformation is a neurophysiological phenomenon and how to apply this knowledge in my coaching work. The material helps uncover the deep, complex connections made by the emotional brain and enables transformation on a much deeper level.

Grounded in extensive neuroscientific research, RELIEF is highly recommended for coaches, therapists, and psychologists. This is something you truly want to understand!

A powerful guide to real emotional freedom
RELIEF is not just another self-help book — it’s a thoughtful and engaging journey into how deep-seated beliefs and emotional patterns shape our lives, and how we can truly shift them. Wassili Zafiris blends psychology, neuroscience, and coaching in a way that feels grounded, personal, and refreshingly clear.

What really stood out to me was how he reframes emotions — not as something to fix or manage, but as meaningful signals that can guide us back to ourselves. Instead of offering quick solutions, the book invites you to slow down and explore what’s really going on beneath the surface.

By the final chapters, RELIEF becomes more than insight — it becomes invitation. An invitation to reconnect with your inner truth, and to live from a place of clarity, strength, and authenticity. Highly recommended for anyone ready to grow from the inside out.
