Usually in books, the female lead is not very strong and always gets the princess treatment. But in this book, the female lead was abused as a child and yet, she turned out to be a strong woman.
I love it when the male lead gives the female lead the 'princess treatment', but when the female lead is strong and the male lead treats her like his queen and lets her do things on her own? Totally LOVE it!! And that's what there is in this book.
If you like books where the female leads are strong, you're gonna love this book.

catalina’s presence to the world is one that she simply endures for the sake of life or death. she is suffering from the abuse that her father puts her through daily. she shows the world that she is just prime and proper daughter who is loved, but she is really slowly dying inside. she holds herself up by constantly reminding herself to fight and to keep going. going through such trauma and abuse, she has one goal … to live. she went from a submissive daughter to a strong and confident leader. i absolutely adore her. when she is arranged to marry the leader of a mafia family … this girl said LOL not todayyyy and did something so shocking. i was on the edge of my damn seat 😳
marco … oh how this man stole the show with his obsession and constant “my woman” 😍 he is hellbent on making catalina his and he will stop at nothing. like this man literally bought different flowers for her everyday because she didn’t know which flower was her favorite and by doing this he looked for her reaction to each one to see which one she liked the most. and catalina didn’t just fall head over heels right from the beginning … no. this girl made him WORK FOR IT 👏👏 marco is the leader of his mafia family and he is just the perfect book boyfriend !

Mafia books are a favorite of mine, but Crowned in Blood gave me everything I didn’t realize I was missing from them. I love having a badass fmc but Catalina brought this to a whole new level.
Watching her go from an abused daughter to a ruthless and cold killer made me happy dance. She developed so well throughout the book, and seeing her at the end made me so proud of her.
Now Marcos may just have become one of my top book boyfriends of the year. There’s “touch her and die” and “I would die for you” and he was a perfect blend of both of them. A man who knew what he wanted and wasn’t afraid to go after it. He was perfection.

The MMC is the definition of a man that YEARNS 🤭🥵🥵🥵 he was obsessed with the FMC from the start and I was here for every moment of it
I also loved how the FMC got the spotlight as far as the mafia storyline goes, she was a badass

very juvenile writing. I was bored to death while reading i really wanted to complete this book but struggled badly so DNFed at 33%

I loved it but there was one particular scene where I was like WTH, why would they do that? But, overall, I loved this book. The ending was also good. This book has strong FMC, who has been through a lot and still managed to rule a whole familia.

You have waited for years to escape from him and finally the time is coming. Your father calls you and asks you to get ready for a party that he has arranged for you. You arrive at a party and like always, you put your best smile. Do you think anyone notices your fake smile? Out of all the people, one man catches your attention. Why does it feel like he can see through your mask? It makes you feel uncomfortable because this is your armour against these cruel people. Who is this man? Well, next day, your father invites you to his office and there you come across a guy, who doesn't give off good vibes. You sense that something is off, and then your father drops the bomb that you're getting married to this guy who is sitting across from him (her father). What do you think will now happen? You planned on escaping your father but turns out you are leaving one cage for other. Do you think you'll be able to escape your soon-to-be-husband? Or will you be a prisoner to his jail?

he is the leader of his own mafia family and has an amazing talent for finding information where you aren’t supposed to find any. the second his eyes land on Catalina he’s obsessed. he WILL make her his. he doesn’t know how he’ll do it but he’s determined
i loved Marco and Catalina’s love story. Marco was OBSESSED from the very beginning. all he cared about was getting close to her. so what if he does some stalking….
Catalina was a hard shell to break. she definitely made Marco work for it. she’s a strong woman that built all the things she’s accomplished herself. i understood her constantly questioning Marco’s motives. if i was her i wouldn’t trust him either but his patience… my god the man has patience and he refuses the let her go
i only wish the last 15-20% had slowed down slightly. things were happening very quickly and i think certain events would have affected me more if i had gotten more time to sit with it
i DID NOT see the plot twist coming. for awhile i was trying to figure out who the true villain was in this story and i would have never guessed it

4 ⭐ I have been looking for a mafia romance to HIT and the depth of catalina's character and being able to work through it was extraordinary. Also the plot twist? Spectacular. This was such a great mafia romance I have nothing but high praise for it

It’s a little crazy how much I enjoyed this!!
Catalina, the FMC, had a terrible, traumatic upbringing. She’s never been hugged, barely been touched except when being abused, and is so broken and closed off that she can’t bring herself to trust anyone. The reserves of strength she finds within herself are mind boggling. She has incredible emotional growth over the course of the story.
Marco, the MMC, is the head of a rival familia. He’s been obsessed with Catalina ever since meeting her at her birthday party and has been surveying her every move. His handsome exterior, astute observation skills, and mirthful demeanor are confusing to Catalina. She doesn’t trust any of it for one second.
These two characters have such a good emotional journey together. Their banter, their chemistry, their sense of kinship and the support they ultimately hold for one another was so incredibly enjoyable to read. I NEED A MARCO IN MY LIFE!!
Although there are multiple scenes that are wonderfully spicy, I do recommend checking the trigger warnings because there are some dark themes in Catalina and Marco’s story. If you like the darker side of dark romance, a handsome, smart, and sexy hero, and a strong, self sufficient bad@ss of an FMC with a liberal dash of spicy times, romantic declarations, moderate violence, and an HEA then YOU NEED TO READ THIS.

If you're looking for a new mafiå read where the FMC is the highlight, I recommend this book. Catalina is handed an impossible task and becomes a total boss babe!
The slow burn and tension had me on fire. The build-up was so well done and believable.
Marco is truly a dream man. He knew how to apply just enough pressure to break through Catalina's emotional shield while giving her the space to feel safe.
Please read the TW. This book deals with many emotional and tråumatïc issues as the main characters heal.

10/10 recommend reading this book! I loved the dynamic between Catalina 🥵 and Marco 🥵 (don't mind me crushing on both of them over here😏)
It was amazing reading a book where the FMC was super protective over the MMC, and then watching then having to go through those emotions together was just 🤌🏻 chef's kiss!!

Crowned in Blood is one of the best written mafia books I've ever read! The characters were amazing, there were plot twists I didn't see coming, and of course had an HEA! I absolutely fell in love with Marco and his persistence for Catalina. I can't wait to see what's next!

The book, oh the book. WOW! Such a beautiful story that was, at times, difficult to read. If you have any triggers or sensitive certain situations, I’d suggest going to Melissa’s website and check her TW/CWs. She also includes them at the beginning of the book.
The Playlist! I, seriously, love when an author includes a playlist for their novel. It always seems to get me in the right frame of mind and also gives me a feel for the story. I’ve got to say that Melissa’s choice in songs meld beautifully with the story. It’s been on my Spotify for a couple of days now and I’m sure it’ll remain a playlist I listen to regularly. I even had it playing in the background while reading.
The Story! Melissa’s words flowed so freely while I read. There was nothing that popped out that annoyed or tripped me (spelling and grammar mistakes). I loved Catalina and Marco together. Catalina had a rough go of it all her life then meets Marco (basically her stalker) and he earns her trust first, and slowly becomes her friend then lover. He never pushed more than she could handle which gave her the confidence she needed to accept her position as Dona to her familia. Even though she acquired her familia in an unconditional way she really loved each and every one of them and listened to them when needed. She was a great counterpart to Marco. She pushed every one of his buttons and he never spoke to her as if she was beneath him no matter their situation. He called her his “mi pequeña reina viciosa” (My vicious little queen) and he was her “King, Death and her Sir.” It’s really hard to talk about the book without giving anything away - the twist at the end was crazy! It just came out of nowhere and was truly unexpected.
My final thought? This story may not be for everyone, it’s dark, very dark. I’ve read darker but this was definitely a dark romance. If you’re ok with that, then it’s so very hot. The character developments and plot were spot on and worked alongside the romantic relationship seamlessly. The words flowed right off the page. When I read that final word all I could think was, “This BETTER BE the start of a new series. I’ve never read any of Melissa’s other books and went in blind. Now I have to go and read them all. I’d highly recommend this novel ⭐️⭐️⭐️ ⭐️⭐️🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️

Catalina had a rough go of it all her life then meets Marco (basically her stalker) and he earns her trust first, and slowly becomes her friend then lover. He never pushed more than she could handle which gave her the confidence she needed to accept her position as Dona to her familia. Even though she acquired her familia in an unconditional way she really loved each and every one of them and listened to them when needed. She was a great counterpart to Marco. She pushed every one of his buttons and he never spoke to her as if she was beneath him no matter their situation. He called her his “mi pequeña reina viciosa” (My vicious little queen) and he was her “King, Death and her Sir.” It’s really hard to talk about the book without giving anything away - the twist at the end was crazy! It just came out of nowhere and was truly unexpected.
My final thought? This story may not be for everyone, it’s dark, very dark. I’ve read darker but this was definitely a dark romance. If you’re ok with that, then it’s so very hot. The character developments and plot were spot on and worked alongside the romantic relationship seamlessly. The words flowed right off the page. When I read that final word all I could think was, “This BETTER BE the start of a new series. I’ve never read any of Melissa’s other books and went in blind. Now I have to go and read them all. I’d highly recommend this novel ⭐️⭐️⭐️ ⭐️⭐️🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️

If you want a dark mafia romance that isn’t toxic & which portrays a healthy relationship with great characters, this is the book for you! It’s immediately enthralling, thrilling, fast-paced, not too dark so it’s perfect for dark romance beginners, & it’s filled with action & an interesting plot. I really enjoyed it🖤
Catalina’s upbringing broke my heart. She’s spent her entire life living under the same roof as her abusive father & has been planning her escape for years. She’s powerless, meek, & reserved under his roof, but she soon blossoms into this badass, courageous, strong, brave fighter & ultimately become a whole ass mafia don!! Queen shit fr! Marco is a HUGE green flag, & you’re probably wondering how ?? since he’s a mafia don AND because he stalks her. Well, he only stalks her because he’s so deeply in love with her & wants to be able to protect her 24/7 after she becomes a mafia Dona, & he’s also just the sweetest, most gentle man towards her. He’s flirtatious, straightforward, charming, bold, sweet, & protective. He was a breath of fresh air in terms of dark romance mmc’s👏🏼
There is an undeniable pull between Catalina & Marco. Their relationship seems fast paced because of the Insta lust on Marcos end, however they only get together around 60% so it’s a little bit of a slow burn despite their feelings for one another being VERY obvious. They have such a healthy relationship where they communicate their feelings & issues, & I loved how obsessed Marco was with Catalina🤭 they were great separately, but a total powerhouse together👏🏼 LOVE.

I was meaning to post this on release day but I got so sick 🤒 To be honest I loved every bit between the two main characters. Especially the MMC, like lord have mercy Melissa poured every bit into the character that it has me getting dry mouth. 💀 So my rating is a 5/5✨
What can I say I love mafia romance, espically if the MMC is possessive. I liked in the beginning how Marco knew Catalina was suffering and wanted to save her from that horrible nightmare. It seemed like Cinderella but a dark setting in my opinion 👀 For this being only 25 chapters it kept me on my toes since I began the book, mostly when those two would be together.
Another thing I have enjoyed is the fact we have a strong FMC. Catalina was not only being abused from her father, but her whole life she had to be a perfect little girl who adored her abusive father. I could never imagine my self doing that to be honest. Especially due to how stubborn I am. But this girl took it all, and then proved to others how strong she can be. Especially what she did in her arranged marriage.
I would highly recommend this book if you love:

The stalking, the banter, THE TENSION, 𝗧𝗛𝗘 𝗦𝗣𝗜𝗖𝗘, the action and plottwist!! Gods, it had me feeling everything, and the last 20% of the book... I was crying, almost throwing up, cheering, sitting on needles, cursing, aaaand crying some more!! 🥹😭

There's no doubt that I love this book, the storyline the pace, the tropes, but there's another reason why I think this is phenomenal - and that's the writing. I problably hightligted 1/3 of the book because the way Melissa's words just worms its way under your skin and make you feel 𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐲𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠 - it's beautiful, inspiring, devastating, funny, sad, heartwrenching and it just hits you the right place every single time.

I haven’t devoured a mafia romance like this in a minute and I absolutely LOVED!
This story follows Catalina, a corrupt senator’s daughter. She has had to be perfect in the limelight or otherwise faced the consequences from her father. He marries her off to one of the mafia bosses and from there the story takes off!
Marco is another mafia boss that is infatuated with Catalina from the beginning. And this man… let me tell you THIS MAN! His attention to detail. The subtle things he does to gauge Catalina’s reactions. He just wants to please her and give her the world. Like he even buckled her car seat ensuring her safety? I’m done. The sweetest.
I can’t recommend this book enough. Catalina is a serious badass and Marco would do anything for her while she chooses to do it herself… just to prove she can. It was so good I am at a loss for words!

I've been in ecstasy since the first chapter, since I read how much Catalina suffered in her father's hands, the pain and all the abuse she suffered.
It was frustrating that she was stopped from having her freedom and being forced to marry someone like Fernando, but she had her revenge.
Will you ever read a book where the FMC isn't a flower? She's actually the most powerful weapon in the armory, because she's not afraid to risk and fight for herself. It was beautiful to see how Catalina fought to survive and for her freedom, she really became a queen with a crown in blood spilled by her enemies.
About our MMC, Marco completely worships his wife, even if she doesn't know him at first, or trust him. The man who is called “The Devil” becomes a fervous, possessive lover when everything connects to his Lina.
It was very passionate to see their relationship bloom, that the first person to show care and love for Catalina was her beloved, Marco, he supported her and protected her above all.
I can say they're The Couple. And I have to say again, I was in love with Catalina, she was a queen at every moment:

Crowned in blood was honestly such a beautiful read! It flowed so perfectly and the character building was perfect! Especially Catalina from the start enduring abuse from her pathetic excuse of a father, to marrying her off to some scum, to her being a BADASS and murdering him and taking his mafia empire and leading it herself and being a girl boss! The story and the way everything was portrayed is SO good, the relationship between her and Marco oh my god! The guy knows what he wants and he got it!!!!

FMC Catalina is just WOW the way she was treated as a child was just horrible but the moment she was an adult & saw the opportunity to take charge of her life she did in a huge way that even im proud of & she became a strong capable woman. I absolutely loved this book! Mafia Romance! He stalks her. And falls first. Slow burn. Touch her and die, arranged marriage, rival families, lots of banter, flirting and teasing!
The character growth from Catalina, was leaps and bounds! She has experienced so much trauma and to see her grow in to a bad b**ch, strong woman, give no f**k leader! and her sense of humor! I just absolutely loved her!
And Marco was a great book bf! He was strong, protective, and even had a crazy side to keep us on our toes! And man is he obsessed with her! And she makes him WORK for it! He literally buys her flowers everyday to see which one is her favorite! I gave this 5/5 stars! I would DEFINITELY recommend this book! What are you waiting for? Go download it today! Absolutely magnificent! It's dark and brutal yet romantic and passionate. From an abused physical and emotionally depraved girl, Catalina rose like a phoenix, took the mafia lifestyle like a duck to water, becoming a ruthless killer and fighter to protect her Familia. Marco is the ultimate MMC of a Mafia storyline, a deadly and brutal killer, yet when it came to Catalina, he'd destroy anyone and conquer the world for her. He patiently tread carefully, gaining her trust and by then the passion was combustible. The brutality in each other fuelled the relationship. After all the gore and massacre you'll get a happy ever after. This book was off the charts well written and went beyond my expectations.

Wow! I absolutely loved this book. Amazing characters and wonderful plot. Very beautifully written and easy to read.
This book shifted something inside of me. For once, I understood every reservation that Catalina had about Marco, about men in general.
Marco became obsessed with Lina since he saw her by her father’s side. He will do anything to keep her safe and protected, even though she is quite capable of defending herself and her honor. How he loved her, how he would go to war for her and will burn down the whole city if it made her smile.
I loved their banter and how they thought about each other. Their chemistry and passion is off the charts.
Overall I loved this book very much. If you’re looking for an enemies to lovers, obsessed/possesive hero, dark, mafia romance then you’re going to love it.

This was my first read from this author and this book blew me away. It had one of the strongest female main characters I have ever read. Catalina was dealt a terrible hand, grew up horribly abused by her father only to be handed over to an absolute monster at 21. Like the fighter she is she fought back against her new abuser and in doing so she becomes the head of a mafia family. Marco is head of a rival family and has become infatuated with Catalina. She may not be ready for a relationship but that doesn’t stop Marco from developing a friendship with her. From that friendship trust is built and before you know it the two are in love. I loved how warm and kind Marco was to her even though to others he’s this big bad mafia man. He would sacrifice himself to keep her safe. They are absolutely perfect for each other and I was so happy to see Catalina finally have a man in her life that doesn’t just use and abuse her but treats her with the respect she deserves.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. I thought the storyline was excellent, and loved the kind of power dynamic shift of the FMC being in charge of a mafia family. The struggles and trauma she had to endure to get there really shaped her and had a huge impact on her life. Marco is such a wonderful MMC. He’s dominant, protective, attentive, and genuinely cares about Catalina. He’s patient with her, and even helps her work through some of her trauma. And their chemistry together is amazing. This book had me holding my breath a couple times, and there were a few twists, but it was definitely worth it. It does have some heavy TW, so check those before reading, but it’s definitely one to add to your list!!

Catalina Salazar is my new favorite book character, her personality is incredible and it made this book a five star read. She didn’t need to be saved by Marco or anyone, she could hold her own. A total hard-core woman that knows what she wants and goes for it. I love the banter her and Marco have and she really makes him work hard to win her heart. This was a great mafia twist because I’ve only read of where a man is the boss and not a woman. It was a slow burner at first but, once it picked up it was full speed ahead with all the action and spice. Some tears were even shed…. guess you will just have to read it to find out what happens to these two unexpected love birds. You won’t be disappointed!
