Gah, I really wasn’t sure what to expect after the devastation of book 2! The suffering that Gen and Eren endured was earth-shattering. I cried more with that book than any book I’ve probably ever read.
This was such a solid follow-up and another easy 5 star read for me! 🌟 🌟 🌟 🌟 🌟
Awakening the Dark Courts hits the ground running with Eren vying for Gen’s hand in marriage in a tournament. She is BROKEN and ANGRY after the events of book 2! With no desire for any kind of relationship with Eren, he fights hard to win her back and make her see that he made mistakes and will do whatever it takes to make up for them.
Their relationship isn’t their only issue, though. They face attacks on them and their kingdom and must devise a plan to save their world from their newest threats.
I loved the multiple POVs and how friendship kind of takes front and center in this story. Rebuilding trust was big here and their communication was amazing. I love the character growth and I seriously can’t wait for the journey in the next book.
Step aside Eren and Gen, my new favorite character is Evinee and I would like nothing more than a book solely for her! Honestly I did not love Gen in this book at all. Even when she redeemed herself, the actions she kept taking did not sit well with me. Eren continues to be wonderful, but the true star of the book was Evinee. She is fierce, strong, intelligent, cunning, and so much more. If I was Eren, I would choose her!
I enjoyed this book for the groveling, the introspection, and the found family themes that just did not give up. These characters have formed extremely strong bonds to each other, and I love how willing they are to go to bat for one another; even when it is difficult to give hard truths.
Can't wait for book 4 to see what Evinee and the crew get up to, and I hope we see a lot more of her as we go on.
This one was soooo character driven. More smaller on the plot side of things but it was sooo binge able & I enjoyed this read so much😭😭 this series will forever hold a space in my heart!!! I LOVED the ending😭😭🩷🩷
Talk about hitting the ground running… we start literally RIGHT where the last book left off and are QUICKLY thrown into the competition for Gen’s hand and where I thought these trials would be a BIG part of this book - they’re literally done and over within 2 short chapters. This book is going to have you feeling all the feels (I mean no surprise right… it’s a Jessica Ann Disciacca book). I fell in love with Gen & Eren’s group of friends/family even more in this book and LOVED the new POV we got. I am so psyched for this new POV in the coming book as well. Awakening the Dark Courts will have you on the edge of your seat and have you laughing multiple times throughout. The banter is amazing!
I love the character development and character arcs in this book!! This book as contains several POV and I thought they were done so well and truly added to the story!! Also Jessica writes trauma and its impact so well!! Love it! Great 3rd book!
A whirlwind ride of love, overcoming trauma, relationships, found family, strong women, mythical creatures, impending war, and so much more!
Overall, Jessica has done it again with another masterpiece! There was so much to deep dive into in this book. We also got so many POVs in this one, it was very enlightening to see things from others' POVs. There was action, spice, heartache, healing, and so much more.
The Plot: Oh does the plot thicken in this one. Not only does a special someone enter a competition for the hand of beloved Genevieve, we see them go through heartbreak, understanding, and hard work for their relationship, Gen has to overcome her past and trauma and prepare to one day be the queen. On top of this there is an impending War that Gen and her found family have to prepare for by reaching out to the various courts, which by no means is an easy feet. But will this even be enough?
Gen: Oh my does our girl go through the feels in this one. I think this is the first book though that she actually frustrated me to no end, but I still love her and get why she reacted to some things the way she did. But I saw so much growth in her in this one. She still has a ways to go and things she needs to deal with but she's getting there. I can't wait to see her healing journey further and what life she will have with Eren.
Eren: Oh man did our boy go through it to in this one. I'm also very proud of his growth as a person in general and as a man for Gen. He also still has some kinks to work out but he's on his way to become a great king. And did I mention he's charming and sexy as hell? Because he always has me swooning.
Evinee: It was such a surprise to have her POV. She really demanded attention in this one. I'll be honest that I wasn't a fan at first, but she snuck her way in, and I can't wait to learn more about her, see her grow, and see what the future has in store for her, especially with a certain familiar face IYKYK.
Otar: Will always be my favorite! I love him with all my heart!
Romance and spice: As always Jessica knows how to enthrall us with romance and give us what we want we spice. This one is steamy. Just the right amount and descriptions. She makes you want to fall in love and get it on. We also get a new taste of spice between new characters, but I won't spoil who, you'll have to find out for yourself!
I cannot wait for the next one! This one left on a cliffhanger as they do so often, and I need to know what happens next! I will be not so patiently waiting for the next one!
Tropes:
• Badass females • "My wife" • "I'm yours" • Overcoming trauma • Elves, fairies, sirens, etc. • Found family • Spicyyyy • Impending war • Protective MMC ... And many more!
🆁🅴🆅🅸🅴🆆: Jessica has once again captured my heart. The narrative resumes seamlessly from the conclusion of the second book, and Eren truly redeems himself in this installment. Witnessing Gen confront Eren's struggles almost brought me to tears, tugging at my emotions deeply with the pain they both endured.
The new developments and the enhanced roles of existing characters enriched the storyline beautifully.
💖Initially, I was uncertain about Evinee's introduction, but by the end, I found myself completely enamored with her; she's a total badass, and I eagerly anticipate more of her adventures and her romantic journey!
However, Gen lost some of her charm in this book. At times, she came off as unnecessarily harsh, which was disappointing. While I still have a fondness for her, she wasn't my favorite character this time around.
I did miss hearing more from Otar, he's my favorite. Always so funny & entertaining.
I was so blindsided by the abrupt ending; only because as I reached for the 'next' button on my kindle, and was met with the crushing realization that I had finished the book.🤧I desperately need the fourth installment—it feels as essential as breathing!
This is book 3 of the series so heads up you def have to read those before you jump into this one, but wow was I so excited to finally have book 3 in my hands! This was one of my favorite series in 2024! You all have to just trust me and read all these books! You will whip through them so fast, and fall in love too!
Jessica picks up right where she dropped you (on a major cliffhanger) in book 2 Awakening the Dark Flame. I love that the action starts from page one! Some serious events happen to Eren and Gen and believe me when I say it is DEVASTATING! I won't leave any spoilers, but you definitely want to find out how it all gets resolved. Starting with Eren throwing his hat in the ring for Gen's hand in marriage and to be the next queen. This is met with some resistance from the other competitors of noble birth that are also competing for her hand.
Winning Gen's hand isn't as easy as simply winning this competition though. Ultimately he must win her love and trust back. This isn't just a love story though. The kingdom is under attack! Together, they must all come up with a plan to save their kingdom.
While this series isn't finished yet, I am unpatiently waiting for the next books to finally know how it all ends!

🌻🦋 My Review 🦋🌻
I feel like every time I read a book from Jessica I’m just setting myself up to have my emotions in disarray. I just. I can’t!! This is why I love this author so much!
Awakening the Dark Courts is book 3 in the Dark Throne series. I’m very vocal (ask anyone) about how this series is my favorite ever and how it is absolute perfection (I bawled like a baby when my friend got me book 1 & 2 for Christmas). Book 3 followed along with pure perfection.
I absolutely loved getting other perspectives throughout this book! It completely turned around how I felt about Evinee especially.
As is the norm with Jessica’s books, you will for sure be questioning your sanity. One second you would loveeee a character and the next you want to jump kick them into next week (cough cough Gen & Evinee) then you would love them again and they become your ride or die 🤣🤣
First if you try to just jump into reading this book with reading the first two well I definitely recommend reading them, because you won’t know what’s going on. Well this book starts off exactly where Awakening The Dark Flame left off Eren going to the trials to win Gen’s hand in marriage. And omg on the last two simulations ahh my heart 🥹😭 I already cried so much on the first two and of course Jessica had to do it a third time in the beginning of this book 😭😭 Eren tries so hard to win Gen back and showing her the mistakes he’s made and will do anything for her. Gen is broken and still blames Eren for what the demons did to her. But even through their own issues, they’re threats coming from every which way from within the court. From the creatures that keep coming through the rifts. I loved it had different POVs we get to see more of the side characters. And some shocking revelations like whattt and that ending I need more!!!!!
At the beginning, I was concerned that we would have to endure Gen’s struggles for the entire novel, but fortunately, Jessica provided some relief early on. While I’m unsure how long that reprieve will last, I was grateful for it.
One of the highlights of this book was the inclusion of multiple points of view from new characters, which added depth to the story. The character development was particularly strong, and as someone who values world-building, I found this aspect especially engaging. It helped create a deeper connection to the characters and made the story feel more immersive. Overall, Book 3 felt like a refreshing addition to the series.
If I had one critique, it would be that certain sections felt rushed. There were moments that I wished had been explored in greater detail, as they had the potential to elevate the story even further. Given that this book was more character-driven, allowing those moments to fully unfold would have enhanced the overall experience.
Jessica smashes out of the park again with ATDC! Book 3 picks up right where book 2 left off and we get right back into the action!
Without any spoilers I’m going to say that this book rocked me to my core. The emotions, y’all. I re-read books 1&2 before reading this one, and I highly recommend giving them a re-read before jumping in for a quick refresher. I swear these books are getting better with each additional one in the series!
I absolutely love the world building and character development. I can’t wait to see what else is in store!
This book was just okay. I really enjoyed the first and second books in the series, but this one was a bit of a mixed bag. There were definitely some good points, but also several frustrating parts.
We were introduced to a new character POV, but the way it was done made the character come off as annoying at first. That also made reading that characters POV boring, and it made it harder for me to stay engaged and finish the book.
I’ll still read the next installment because the first two books were strong, but if it ends up being like this one, I’ll probably stop reading the series.
🍊 Arranged Marriage 🥃 Found Family 🍊 Shared Trauma 🥃 Political Intrigue 🍊 Magical Beings
I swear this series just keeps getting better and better. I loved that we got to see both Gen and Eren heal after being put through the ringer in book two. Their relationship has grown so much throughout this series.
I also loved getting to know Evinee more this book. Man does that girl have some secrets! I can't wait to see more of Evie in the next book.
Straight off the cliffhanger in book two, to the action of a tournament to win Gen’s hand in marriage. From there it is a continued fight for Eren to gain back her trust and rekindle those feelings, but there is so much more at play than winning back a romantic relationship. Their kingdom is in danger as they navigate working together to save everything and everyone they love.
Omg I have to wait now 😩 I love this series. It needs more hype.. such great characters and world building.. I'm feeling a little anxious about Levos though and not a good vibe!! UUGH suspense.... great job Jessica.
And it went down.. I don't like the: she wants him- he doesn't... he wants her- she's doesn't.. and so on... I'm struggling to finish this book .I do love Otar!
I'm not sure about the focus going back and forth. A lot of the book was about Evinee, maybe she should have had her own side story, and finish what is going on in this story?
This is book three in The Dark Throne Series, and it did not disappoint!! The last book ended on a cliffhanger, and I could not wait to get to this one!
I loved that this book picked up right where Awakening the Dark Flame left off. Eren fights for Gen’s hand in marriage, and the action doesn’t stop from there. In addition to fighting for her love, and to get back to the place they once were, they are literally fighting for their kingdom as well. The action is on point, as well as the character development and relationships! I loved this one, and will be anxiously awaiting book four!
The Dark Throne Series is the book 3 in this series. The book contains magic, mental health, and romance. This to me a a battle and a love story centering around a strong female main character (FMC), whose journey involves an intriguing "touch her and die" dynamic with a MMC who is head over heals for FMC which adds an intense layer of protective romance. Set in a world populated by elves, monsters and more; the book explores themes of power and resilience, particularly through the FMC's unnatural rebirth, which serves as a her transformation and growth. The narrative is told from the 2 main character's point of view & an additional character's POV, offering an intimate glimpse into struggles and triumphs, including a nuanced look at mental health. With just the right amount of spice, the book balances action with lots of banter and jealousy, mixed emotion, and deep romance, making it a compelling read for fans of fantasy and strong character development.

OMG!!! I LOVED this book!!!😍😍😍 This was one of my favourite series last year and Dark Courts is my favourite of the series yet!
This book continues right where the last one left off. You'll definitely want to go back and read the first two before diving into this one! If you love dark romantic fantasy and getting your heart broken, then slowly put back together, then you have to read this series!!
There's so much more I want to say about this one but I don't want to spoil anything. I just have to say, this was a perfect book.
I know this one just released, but I already cannot wait for the next one!!
This book was so emotional!! It was an emotional roller coaster from start to finish and had my emotions all torn up. It picks up right where the last one left off with Eren deciding to try for her hand in marriage. In the beginning I wanted to shake Gen for being so mean and stubborn. But as things played out and progressed it got even better. I love Eren, he is one of my favorites book boyfriends and remind me of Damon from vampire diaries. We get to see a softer more living side to him in this book. I loved the new relationships that unfolded and new creatures. Otar is still my all time favorite character. He is even more sassy and bloodthirsty in this one. His character really lightens the mood at times. I loved getting to learn more about Erens “family”. I fell in love with Evinee and Levos and hope to see more on their relationship in the next book. There was more political intrigue in this one and I can’t want to learn about the new races that will be discovered in the next book!
