This book is a must for anyone who loves quilts and history. Specifically focusing on tapestry (figurative) quilts, the author assembled photos of examples ranging from 1700 to 1900. Not only are there excellent photos of each quilt entire, but also of significant details, often with likely models--period illustrations likely seen by the makers.

I wish there was more about the makers themselves, but that would be a biographical work, not one that focuses on the quilts. The imaginative reader can depict what it was like to make these exquisite pieces, to spend a lifetime sleeping under them, and then handing them down through descendants.
