Author Nova Walsh writes culinary cozy mysteries full of humor, shenanigans, and friendships that last a lifetime. She mixes in a healthy dose of amateur sleuthing, some slow-burn romance, and a pinch of comedy in every book she writes. Nova is a former chef/caterer who still loves to cook but loves to write even more. She’s an enthusiastic, if not totally successful gardener who loves travel, wine, and hanging out with friends. Nova grew up in the southwest, and now lives in Galveston, Texas, with her husband, son, and dogs. When she isn’t writing, she’s often cooking, spending time with family, or reading a good book with a pup by her side.
My first fall read of the season. It was cute and romantic. I found myself getting a little annoyed with the main character because the miscommunication trope is my least favorite trope….but other than that super atmospheric and cute for the fall.
2.75 / 5 - very cozy fall vibes, but the story fell a bit flat. I spent the first 1/3 of the book wondering why the FMC hated professors so much, and even after reading the whole thing I’m still not totally convinced of her reasons for hating academia. The end was rather abrupt and anti-climactic. And the FMC felt a bit immature (both personally and professionally). But I did love the ambiance and the general feel of the book 🍁🍂🎃
The Cozy Corner Book Store by Nova Walsh had potential, but ultimately fell flat for me. Natalie and Finn’s romance just didn’t have the chemistry I was hoping for—it felt forced and underdeveloped, and without that spark, it was hard to get invested in their relationship.
One of the biggest issues was the lack of a meaningful conflict. Natalie’s hesitation to get involved with Finn simply because he’s a professor felt shallow, despite her past, and didn’t add any real tension to the story. It was supposed to be a barrier, but it didn’t feel convincing or strong enough to keep them apart.
Honestly, not much actually happened in this story. The plot was thin, and while I get that it’s a novella, I’ve seen other short books pull off a well-rounded story despite the page limit. Here, it felt like things were moving in circles without any real purpose, and by the end, it felt more like a collection of scenes than a full story.
Overall, it’s a quick read, but I needed a bit more depth to really enjoy it.
I love discovering a new comfort read with lovable characters and a sweet and deep story.
𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗣𝗹𝗼𝘁 📝 The Story is about Natalie and Finn's romance. Natalie owns a bookstore (the Cozy Corner) that isn't doing all too well. Along her journey to find ways to create more income and bring people into her Store, she meets Finn: A new Professor in town. They immediatly hit it off but will their love survive some challenges?
I really enjoyed the plot and the fact that this is a beautiful fall read. There were fall festivals and fall themed events, drinks and so on. It definitely made me excited for fall to progress.
𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗖𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗲𝗿𝘀 👥 The Characters were all so comfort character coded and sweet. Especially Natalie's friends Simone and Meredith, I loved them both so much.
𝗪𝗵𝘆 4.5 𝗦𝘁𝗮𝗿𝘀? ⭐ The book was amazing and I can truly recommend you to check it out. Sometimes I wished there would've been more romance scenes but that is just my own taste. If you want to find a new fall comfort read, this is the perfect choice.
A romance with a twist. This book has a heroine that feels pressure from the world to change her life. She wants nothing to do with the world of academia. That is her parents world. This is a good book. I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
I feel like this would have been better if it had been padded out a bit more - everything seemed to be happening all at once. They fight and a few hours later, it feels like she's changing her mind about a lot of her boundaries? I feel like the relationship between Natalie and her parents could have been developed a bit more too. All in all, a good premise, but too short to do it justice
This book had me rolling my eyes at the main character. There is no depth to the storyline and the story felt rushed. It was an okay romance if you want something quick and easy.
I was looking for a sweet love story as I recovered from reading a twisted thriller. This was a quick, but boring story. The characters are too polite with one another and the supposed conflict doesn’t have any real impact. I loved the quaint, small town, autumn setting and sweet friendships, but need more depth of feeling.
While this had the potential to be a cute, cozy romance, the characters felt extremely undeveloped and one-dimensional. Given the length of the book, this typically wouldn't bother me too much; however, with the poorly written conflict, the whole novel started unraveling.
Natalie is hands down the most annoying female lead I've ever read in a a book. She doesn't want to sell college books because of her parents being college professor 🙄 ok whatever. But then she blows up on poor Finn cause he mentioned doing a college event 🙄🤦 like STFU Natalie. Even college students like to read non college books in their free time. What's the harm in reaching out to them. It doesn't say how old she is. But she definitely acted like a pre teen drama queen and not a real adult. Even the whole story line was blah. Only about her issues with college and college professors. Fair enough to say I wont be reading the other books.
That cover is so cute! The fall vibes in this were amazing. It was so clean and perfect for anyone seeking a really clean romance this fall season. I loved the book store elements as well as the friendship. I can't say much more than that because this book is only like 89 pages. There was one part that kinda annoyed me but it's kind of a spoiler so read at your own risk.* Natalie and Finn are on a date getting cider, an before helping her out of the car he kisses her, rests his forehead on her's and says "I can't believe how fast I'm falling for you, Nat." And all she does is nod... It annoyed me so much, let me know if you guys think it's annoying as well. End of spoiler* My favorite part was the epilogue so perfect!
The characters ~~~~~~~~~~~~ Natalie ~ I did like her though she annoyed me at times.
Finn ~ he was so sweet an patient with Natalie.
Meredith ~ she was a great friend I might have to try her story now.
Simone ~ she was also a great friend maybe she'll get a book in the future.

This book definitely gives fall vibes, and I really liked the setting and how it was described—it made me want to be there, and it made me feel like I was there.
I think Natalie and Finn made a good couple. I was rooting for them to get together. I wished the book had been longer. I liked the friendship between Natalie and her friends and how they were supportive of each other. I also liked that the book was fast-paced—it took like 10 minutes or less to read each chapter.
The only emotional depth in the book came when Natalie talked about why she didn’t want to date a professor, because of her parents and what happened between them in the story. The kiss happened too soon for me. I felt like, since the book had 13 chapters and an epilogue, the kiss should’ve happened in chapter 12 or 13—not 7 or 8 chapters in. I didn’t like that she liked Finn so much when she had only met him a few days ago. I also didn’t like that when they got together it seemed like everything was too perfect.
They said “I love you” way too soon, and it made me mad—like, how are you saying that when you haven’t even known each other that long, especially after the fight they just had? The romance was supposed to be a slow burn, but it wasn’t. The romance in the book disappointed me because it had the potential to be really good. There was only a little bit of build-up, and there wasn’t any emotional depth.
Overall, the book could’ve been a four star but it wasn’t for me.
