For twenty-eight years, I’ve kept the woman I love close. Too close.
Penny Atkins has been my best friend and secret crush for as long as I can remember. But I never dared to make a move, too afraid of wrecking our lifelong friendship.
So, of course, when I finally convince myself to just suck it up and tell her that I’ve been in love with her since we were kids, I find out she’s engaged. I waited too long, and now she’s rushing into marriage with another man.
I know I should throw in the towel, accept that she’s happy and that nothing between us will change.
Though, when I see her standing up there on her wedding day, it’s not a choice but a compulsion to crash the altar.
After all, it’s not over until someone says, “I do.”
*Crashing the Altar is the third book in the Rust Canyon series but can be read as a standalone.
Siena is originally from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, where a love of sports is bred into a girl's DNA. Her love of romance novels came early as well. She would often accompany her romance reviewer mom to book lovers' and romance writers' conventions, where she sat in on workshops and met numerous best-selling authors. It wasn't long before she was filling notebooks with her own stories, which often starred herself and a certain real-life prince.
As luck would have it, she met and married a handsome athlete instead. After several temporary residencies in multiple states and Germany, they finally settled in Michigan, the land where youth hockey reigns supreme.
Her stories no longer feature herself but draw from her past experiences as an educator, businesswoman, fashion consultant, and world traveler when creating her strong heroines. “Oh yes,” she says with a wink and a smile, “There are bits of me in all of them.” Now, she spends her days writing happily ever afters for fictional characters and her evenings at the local hockey arenas cheering for her three children.
Rating only for Tripp staying a virgin and not finding any grammar mistakes (that's the bar we're working with friends)
I love when the script is flipped and the MMC is the virgin and the FMC isn't (equality, people!) but it just doesn't work for childhood sweethearts - if they're strangers with no shared history, then who cares? But literally when one is pining for the other (even if he was dumb and didn't tell her he loved her, I'm not negating that) and the other doesn't seem to care it's not enjoyable and a bit icky.
Just my opinion though! I know some people have been ramping up lately in some safety friends' comment sections, so please keep your thoughts to yourself if you have any issues with my preferences 🥰
☆ Dual pov ☆ Virgin MMC/non-virgin FMC (she has had a few sexual partners, and was having sex with her then fiancé only days before her and MMC finally got together ) ☆ Both 29 years old ☆ BFFs to lovers (from babies, grew up together on same ranch) ☆ No cheating or OW drama ☆ OM drama: FMC is literally engaged and MMC objects at her wedding ☆ HEA ending + epilogue ☆ Potential triggers: miscarriage scare (bleeding - baby is okay)

Thank you to Siena for the ARC for my honest review! First, let me start by saying that I had like 5 books I tried to read, and out of all of them, this one was able to pull me out of a potential slump. Siena had me hooked from the first chapter. Tripp is up there for one of the best book boyfriends 🤭. He is quite possibly the perfect male specimen. Also, don't let this sweet cover fool you. This book is filthy at times 🥵🥵. Penny totally surprised me in the bedroom scenes. I absolutely loved this story. There were a few twists and surprises thrown in that I was not expecting! I absolutely recommend this to all of my friends who love sweet and spicy cowboy romances and/or best friends to lovers romances. This was so good!!
Tripp’s story! So it can be a standalone but really missing out if you don’t read the prior stories. This one was a little rough to get into honestly because the romance happened super early- which brings warning bells of course! This did give from a couple just acting on whims and impulses to having to grow up super fast- well it’s how it looked on the outside….. inside it was all sorts of drama being rolled up into one. And of course in true Siena style when you think it’s resolved it takes a twist! I did enjoy but loved the prior stories a little more, but still a good read!
3.85⭐️ | 3.5🌶 such a sweet golden retriever/cinnamon roll book. The yearning and angst was so felt. this book was a whirlwind in the best ways. The found family and it's only been you was just everything. I did feel bored around 70% but the last 10% remedied that. also, Mac AND Tripp being such golden retrievers?! I'm sat! Thank you to luna literary for the arc
Tripp Sullivan, you are a perfect man. 🫡❤️ He has been in love with Penny his whole life but never wanted to ruin their friendship... that is until she is about to marry another man. He steps up, in a BIG way! I actually felt really bad for him. I thought his Dad was being extremely too harsh.
Penny surprised me! I wasn't expecting her to be the take control type of girl but I didn’t hate it! She also had been in love with Tripp her whole life but was afraid he didn't feel the same way so she thought if she moved on, then her feelings would stop. 🫣
I adored them together. They were committed and head over heels in love with each other which was so refreshing.
Now... the PLOT TWISTS or surprise tropes I should say 🫣 Was NOT expecting that at all.
Mac & Mewmaw kept me laughing and I love that the whole family was involved.
Tropes: Childhood Best Friends to Lovers Runaway Bride Small Town Veterinarian x Cowboy V!rgin MMC &&& a few surprise tropes!
So this is book three in the series and it was the one I’ve been looking forward to for the longest time! You know I love a good small town cowboy romance
I loved the characters, Penny and Tripp, and it was great to finally read their story. This was probably the spiciest book of the series so far but it still had a good storyline! Only thing I would have liked was more about their relationship as younger adults or just more time before they get together to really feel their angst.
-Runaway Bride -Virgin MMC -Childhood friends to lovers
I will always love a best friends to lovers romance and this one is *chef's kiss*! I think what initially sold me on the tropes was the virgin MMC Tripp - we quickly learn its because he's been so in love with his BFF Penny that he's waited for her. Obviously there is some "crashing of the altar" when Penny is almost married to another man and this happens much earlier on in the story than I expected. But! There is more than enough relationship building and drama that happens in the rest of the story after our love interests finally declare their love for one another.
The spice in this book is SO good - love when we have an experienced FMC and an eager to learn & obsessed MMC.
I don't normally read "cowboy" style romances but so glad I did with this one! Honestly it's not too heavy on the cowboy stuff so if that part is a turnoff normally for you its easy to slide past (and worth it!) Will definitely be reading the rest in the series now.
Thanks to Luna Literary & the author for the chance to read and review!
I'm not a ARC reader so I'm not going to scream how obsessed I was with this book or how good it was.
I liked the book Goalie Goal by this author and the blurb sounded good so I gave it a go. The beginning was great! They were raised together and they're best friends, but as they grow older and feelings changed, they're both afraid to ruin their friendship with something that might not even be requited.
At her 21st birthday at the town bar, she drinks a lot and tells him that she wants him but then she vomits all over his truck. The next morning, he tries to bring it up, but she brushes it off as a drunken moment and chickens out.
I think around the time that they turn 29/30 (chapter 2? 3?) is where I had to stop. She has officially lost hope that she can ever have a future with the H so we find out that she goes out and gets her V taken at a random party with a random guy. She goes out on dates with other guys in the 8 years that she goes to vet school and has sex with other guys =( Meanwhile, hes sits on his ass and never goes for what he wants. HER. He never grows a pair of cajones and tells her how he feels and how they should be together. And to me, that just means hes a big pussy and an idiot. I don't want to read about idiot men you know?
He comes home from a rodeo thing on her birthday as a surprise and when he sees her with another man, he finds out that shes engaged. She never told him that she was involved with another man and she only says yes because she doesnt want to die alone. Fucking sad. And makes her a bitch to say yes to marriage to a man that she doesn't even love, just wants a placeholder for the guy that she actually does want but shes also a literal pussy for not saying anything.
He goes out to the bar to get drunk and the next morning, runs off back to the rodeo that he left with his tail tucked between his legs. Cuz like I said, hes a big pussy.
So yeah, this is not my cup of tea and I don't think I want to continue with this train of thought.....DNF.
If he ever finds his balls and this book is worth continuing, please let me know. But otherwise, I'm done.
We return to Rust Canyon series with Crashing The Altar featuring childhood best friends Penny and Tripp. I adored them together and honestly their friendship and love for each other was perfection. This is a sweet and spicy small town cowboy romance with a twist they you don’t expect. A really enjoyable read. I received a complementary copy from Luna Literary.
Tripp has been in love with his best friend Penny for a very long time, but never acted on it. Penny is engaged to someone she doesn’t truly love. When she is at the alter Tripp decides to finally speak up. Penny is quite the little firecracker and dominant in the bedroom 👀. Tripp is just amazing and goes above and beyond for penny. They were so adorable as friends but amazing as lovers.
❤️🔥-Runaway Bride ❤️🔥-Childhood friends to lovers ❤️🔥-Small town ❤️🔥-Veterinarian FMC ❤️🔥- Cowboy
Thank you Luna Literary and Siena Trap for giving me an eARC in exchange for an honest review.
Crashing the Alter by Sienna Trap is book 3 of her Rust Canyon Series, and just like the other 2, it’s a book you can’t put down. Although it can be read as a standalone, start with book 1 of the series, so you don’t miss out. As with the others, I read the book in 2 days because I couldn’t put it down.
The story of Tripp and Penny, two best friends, who were both afraid to admit their true feelings to each other, was one that I was dying to read after their relationship had been teased in the other books. In Crashing the Alter, Penny finally gives up on her feelings for Tripp and settles on marrying someone else. Tripp realizes he’s held onto his feelings for to long and may have missed his chance to marry his best friend/soulmate and have the family he’s always dreamed of. The title of the book may give you a hint to what happens, but just when you think you know what’s going to happen next, or something has been resolved, Siena throws in a twist that keeps you needing to read more.
The big thing that sets these books apart from other spicy, romance books is Trap’s writing style. The characters are always well developed, displaying natural chemistry, and usually going through their own emotional journeys. She has the ability to create swoon-worthy emotionally resonant romance stories that have a real emotional impact with all the feels, and satisfying romantic happy endings.
Thanks to Luna Literary & the Siena Trap for the chance to read and review!
Okay… after having three books in this series already and WAITING to FINALLY have Penny and Tripp’s happily ever after, I gotta say THIS is my FAVOURITE FUCKING BOOK IN THIS SERIES.
I KNEW that this was going to be FUCKING PHENOMENAL… AND IT FUCKING WAS. OH MY HOLY SHIT! Penny and Tripp are HONESTLY EVERYTHING and I LOVED everything about them! Penny, being the quiet and some-what innocent only daughter WAS NOT what I was expecting when I finally got her POV! She is WILD and cannot be tamed and I LOVE this about her! Her dominance in some places you wouldn’t expect is FIERY, HOT AND FUN! I’m sure Tripp thinks this too as he is LITERALLY head over heels for this girl and I HAVE BEEN DYING to see him in his moment! MY GOD this man was YEARNING, and he was SUCH. A. GOOD. BOY. *smirk*. Finally seeing Tripp get the girl and seeing this side of him has me FUCKING. GAGGED. Oh, of course, the smut was SMUTTING, and it was SPICCYYYYY!
Let’s not forget to mention it is ALWAYS a pleasure to see Aspen and Mac! I still love them with my whole heart and Mac is STILL comedic gold and I LOVE HIM FOR IT! Seeing their family grow even more just makes my heart melt. And if you’ve ever heard ‘But Daddy I Love Him’ by Taylor Swift, this book GIVES THIS VIBE FOR SURE! Of course in different circumstances, but the vibe is there, and it WAS GLORIOUS. I can’t wait to see what’s instore next for the final book in this series, and I KNOW it is going to give this series one final bang!
Have you ever loved a book from page one? That doesn’t happen often for me but when it does it is the best feeling.
Crashing the Alter had me loving it at page one. I could not put it down! Trip and Penny’s story was even better than I could have ever imagined.
Siena Trap writes MMC’s that you helpless to not fall in love with. She writes FMC’s that you want to be your bestie. Each series makes me wish I could just jump in the book and be part of their world. Crashing the Alter is no different. Tripp is going to be top of your book boyfriend lost and Penny will be the bestie you wish you had in real life.
Tripp has been Penny’s best friend their whole life. He isn’t sure when he fell in love with her, but he knows he is definitely in love with her. The fear of losing Penny if she didn’t feel the same has stopped him from confessing his feeling but everyone can see the love in his eyes. Everyone but Penny.
Penny has been wishing for Tripp for as long as she can remember. She is completely in love with her best friend but like him she is too afraid she will lose him if she confesses. As the years pass she grows more fearful she will end up alone.
Because of their mutual fear they lose a lot of years they could have been together. When Penny starts dating someone and quickly becomes engaged, Tripp has to decide if he can man up and grab what he wants most in life.
The story is fast paced and full of swoon worthy moments. You will not be able to put it down!
I started this ARC just this morning and I devoured it!
This book was honestly such a beautiful story that had me all up in my feels and even at times made me a little teary.
Penny and Trip have been friends from the moment Tripp was born and are close as can be but have always hid a big secret from each other....they are each in love with the other but fear of ruining their strong friendship has kept them from telling each other! Penny has given up waiting for Tripp and now he is too late...
Penny's character is written brilliantly and I love her! She is wild, empowering, caring and strong as hell. Tripp is truly the best friend a girl could ask for and so incredibly sweet and shy that I swooned with his need to always let Penny take the lead but protected her always. Their chemistry is sizzling, the spice is on point in this book and their dynamic during it, perfection! I have wanted to see how their story panned out from book 1 in this series and yet it was so much more than I could have imagined.
Siena did an amazing job with writing these characters so different from the dynamics you usually find in a cowboy romance and I honestly loved how refreshing that was, this book was truly a breath of fresh that really pulled on the heart strings and despite always knowing they were meant to be their story was still very much surprising and not at all how I thought it would go but that made it even more enchanting. If you love small town, found families and cowboys then this book is for you! The whole series is a fantastic small town romance series.
🐎 Childhood Best Friends 🐎 Virgin MMC 🐎 Small town romance 🐎 Cowboy romance 🐎 It was always you 🐎 Found Family
I swear Siena’s books keep getting better and better every single time. I knew I was going to enjoy this book, however I was not expecting to be absolutely HOOKED from the very first sentence.
Siena knows how to write the mist swoon-worthy men with the DIRTIEST mouths.. 🥵🥵🥵
I HIGHLY recommend y’all read this book, as well as ANY AND ALL of her other books because she does not miss.
Siena killed it with this book. Tripp and Penny’s story is the one I’ve been waiting for since the Rust Canyon Series started, and it did not disappoint. Penny’s personality really came out - she’s a wild child that I didn’t peg her for and Tripp is the definition of a simp for her. Their “teach me” moments were HOT and their kinky behavior, even hotter. Tripp’s protective streaks throughout the book are a nice switch to his going along with Penny’s every whim. The banter in this book between the main characters as well as side characters is great! I found myself with my jaw on the floor as multiple different places in this book from completely unexpected one liners. The emotional rollercoaster Siena takes the reader on in this book was brilliantly done - it really felt like the reader is a part of it and helped to carry the plot along. Siena’s writing style continues to be a favorite of mine and I cannot wait for more!! I cannot thank Siena and the Luna Literary for allowing me to be a part of this ARC team. Crashing the Altar releases on May 27, you’re be crazy not to pick it up!
This H is the best man ever, and without him I don’t think this book would get so high score from me. I really liked the concept, where the h is sick of second guess her best friend’s feelings for her, so she tries to move on with another man. She’s about to marry om, when the H finally speaks up. He’s always waited for her, she’s been with other men - loved how this for once was the heroine sleeping around, since nowadays there’s almost always they men who sleeps around, and the women saving them self for him. So thank god for this!!
- Both 29 years old - Best friends to lovers (done right from H perspective) - Surprise pregnancy
Safety: - No owd, hero is a virgin and never indulged in other women. He’s always wanted the h, and the thought of touching another woman made him sick - Omd: h is about the marry om when the H stops it. - h slept with om off page just before they split and h went off with the H, so some drama with who’s her babydaddy - h slept with other men - both always had feelings for each other but neither wanted to risk their relationship, h settled with om bc she thought it was better than being alone, but she still wanted the H

Penny & Tripp as friends is so sweet! BUT PENNY & TRIPP AS LOVERS- OMG!! 🥵🥵 Penny is not the sweet girl she is perceived to be. She’s a dominant, little trouble maker. Making Tripp seem all the sweeter.
This book read smoothly. Siena’s writing is so in detail that I can picture everything she’s writing about. This book is fast paced so you don’t have to wait around to get into the knitty gritty details!
Penny + Tripp = Couple Goals 🥵❤️🔥
Here’s what to expect: ❤️🔥 a small reverse age gap ❤️🔥 pregnancy ❤️🔥 cinnamon roll cowboy x strong female character ❤️🔥 runaway bride ❤️🔥 best friends to lovers
Sometimes you just have to fight for what you want in life. But other times, if you wait too long, that opportunity will be gone. That's lesson Tripp and Penny are learning. By the 8th chapter things start picking up in an interesting way.
The truth of their friendship opens up revealing the true extent of everything. Had to wait to near the end when the plot twist started but it was expected because of how the story was unfolding.
The storyline did seem fast paced with odd plot holes missing in spots. Like this one that I was looking forward too but it felt flat compared to the other two in the series.

I didn’t realize the crashing of the altar would happen as quickly as it did. It launched the plot at a fast pace and in my opinion, the rest of the story struggled to keep up.
I was especially looking forward to Tripp and Penny’s storyline because the buildup was so strong in the previous books. While it didn’t completely disappoint, it just didn’t wow me either.

I stopped everything to read this book and oh my god it was perfect.
Penny was not the character I thought she was going to be and I was pleasantly surprised. She was strong, loved to dominate in the bedroom and trouble is her middle name.
Tripp is a sweetheart, he’s everything you want in a man and Penny is one lucky girl.
I couldn’t turn the pages fast enough! I was screaming out Penny for some of her choices but then Tripp FINALLY came to his senses 😍 Now it was not smooth sailing after this but the journey was worth it in the end.
Well, the first chapters are kind of sweet and a bit of angst and then … sex, sex, sex. Nothing more, sex. The end. It could be a good story, beautiful with that man in the book, but not. He was a virgin who had waited for her, so sweet. They runaway, they married and then his dad was an ass , they went to the cabin. They leave a little later, they had a scary moment with the pregnancy. All set, the end. Sorry but I didn’t like this one.

The first few chapters of the book I was invested. Penny seemed lost but sweet. By 59% I couldn't stand her. Some of the sexual scenes like the bj at the rodeo and the one at the movies started out seriously uncomfortable. I had high hopes but was let down. DNFing at 59% because honestly I'm bored. Penny is entitled while Tripp took the fall most of the time.

ARC Read – Did Not Finish Unfortunately, this was a DNF for me. Penny and Tripp were just too cringeworthy—I couldn’t connect with them at all. They already didn’t win me over in Coming Home Country, and I found them even more frustrating in Crashing the Altar. Their dynamic just didn’t work for me, and it really pulled me out of the story.
I absolutely could not wait for Penny and Tripp's story and I was not disappointed. I love them as a couple. We have seen them pine for each other for several books now and the chemistry was off the charts. They were childhood best friends who secretly loved and pined for each other. They both were afraid to ruin their friendship and did not let each other know that they loved each other. Penny decides that the only way to have the life she wants is to settle for a man she knows she can never love. She does not know that she is hurting Tripp. Luckily with the help of loved ones they get Tripp to come to the wedding and he runs away with the bride instead. They take their relationship into overdrive and don't think about the consequences. They have a few mishaps along the way but in the end the love they have is enough to weather the storms they had to endure from going from 0 to 100 without thinking. I loved also getting to see glimpses of the lives of previous characters. This whole series has been fun. I cannot wait to see what happens in the last book. We are going back to the family patriarch. That will be fun and exciting. Siena does such a good job with her world building skills. I love how all of her series are interconnected in some way. I cannot wait to see where else this author has to take us in the future. I cannot say their has been a single character that I don't love in one way or another.
What a delightful, dramatic and unexpected story! I was so excited to see how Tripp and Penny would find their way to each other and I was not disappointed.
Penny is a 29 year old vet who has been in love with her best friend for as long as she has known what love is but has never acted on it because she doesn't want to lose him.
Tripp is a 28 year old cowboy who oversees the transport of his family's bucking horses on the rodeo circuit who has been in love with his best friend forever but has never acted on it because he doesn't want to lose her.
Penny confessed her feelings once when drunk but pretended not to remember, so Tripp didn't remind her.
Penny doesn't want to be alone forever and wants a family, so she starts dating an old college fun buddy turned colleague. They get engaged. Tripp is heartbroken and leaves with a wish for her happiness after making it clear he won't be at the wedding. And things just get more and more interesting from there.
I was completely unprepared for the journey this book to me on in the very best way. It was even more interesting and enjoyable than I expected it to be and I had the best time reading it. The characters are vibrant, the writing is so enjoyable and the story has so much heart.
Penny is unapologetically herself and Tripp has no time for toxic masculinity when it comes to control in the bedroom. Love it!
I am so grateful to have received this as an ARC and can confirm that the free copy had zero impact or influence on my review.
This book was a joy to read and I cannot recommend it enough.
