Kelly Lattimore dreams of using her legal skills to help those in need, but practicalities force her into the soul-crushing world of Big Law. Despite the shock of a one-night stand being her new boss, she’s determined to excel…and maybe even make her family proud of her for once.

As cutthroat as she is beautiful, the last thing high-powered attorney Jillian Briggs is looking for is an office romance. Still smarting from her divorce, she distracts herself with work and casual sex. She never planned to mix the two, but when Kelly turns out to be her new associate after their night of passion, Jillian’s carefully partitioned life is turned on its head.

Try as they might, Kelly and Jillian can’t resist their attraction. They’re determined to keep their connection purely physical, but the more time they spend together, the harder it gets to ignore their hearts.

Thank you to Bold Strokes Books and NetGalley for providing me with this ARC in exchange for an honest review.

I enjoyed my first read by Cassidy Crane. It was a quick and engaging story that balanced romance, angst, and steam quite well.

I’ll admit, at the beginning, I was a bit concerned because it felt very similar to Crossing the Line by J.J. Arias, which came out in 2022. There were enough unique elements to distinguish it, but the similarities were hard to ignore at first. However, as the story progressed, it truly found its own voice, and I appreciated how Kelly and Jillian evolved into well-rounded characters.

The steamy scenes were especially well done—if you enjoy a bit of dirty talk, you'll find a lot to like here.

The pacing did throw me off occasionally; time jumps of weeks would happen between paragraphs within the same chapter. It took some getting used to, but once I adjusted, it didn't detract from the overall experience.

Writ of Love by Cassidy Crane is an enjoyable office romance featuring Kelly Lattimore, a recent Harvard Law grad, and Jillian Briggs, a successful 45-year-old attorney at the firm where Kelly starts her career. After a sizzling one-night stand, Kelly is shocked to learn that Jillian is her boss. The romance unfolds slowly, with strong chemistry between the two women, and Jillian’s tough exterior softening as their relationship develops.

While the age gap between them isn’t deeply explored, the story focuses on the internal and external obstacles they face as their connection grows. The steamy scenes are well integrated into the plot, helping to develop their characters and chemistry. Though some aspects, like Kelly’s backstory and the age difference, could have been explored further, the book remains an engaging and satisfying read.

Overall, Writ of Love is a delightful office romance with well-done character development and a slow-burn romance. I look forward to more from this author.

Thank you to NetGalley and Bold Strokes Books for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.

L-O-V-E-D this SO much! Hot lawyers in heels—yes please!

I devoured the book in an evening, which I rarely do, but debut author Cassidy Kane’s Writ of Love starts with a spicy bang and then… well, continues the sparks n fizzles to create a delicious office, boss–employee, age-gap romance that sparkles and radiates.

There may not be anything earth-shatteringly original here; indeed, if you enjoyed Morgan Adams’ View from the Top, published last spring, you’ll find similar notes and fizz here. Ms. Crane employs the hot-lesbian-lawyers-who-can’t resist-each-other tropes very well. Both the leads are very likable and you’ll find yourself rooting for both of them, for sure.

This is an easy, low angst read with flowing prose, super characters, and hot scenes. All of which combine very well to make Writ of Love an accomplished debut with not a wasted word throughout. My fave debut this year!

Thanks to the author, the publisher Bold Strokes Books, and to NetGalley for this ARC.

Writ of Love by Cassidy Crane offers a fun and engaging office romance centred around Kelly, a fresh-faced lawyer, and Jillian, her no-nonsense boss. The plot kicks off with a sizzling one-night stand that turns awkward when the characters realise they now work together. Kelly is a refreshing character, with her strong moral compass and dedication to her work. I enjoyed following her as she navigates both her career and her budding feelings for Jillian.

Jillian, on the other hand, brings a lot of emotional complexity to the table. Though she initially tries to keep things casual with Kelly, her growing soft spot for her is clear early on. Jillian’s strong exterior starts to crack as her feelings deepen, which adds a lovely emotional layer to the story. However, her constant hot-and-cold behavior can feel a bit jarring, and at times, her actions make it difficult to fully root for her relationship with Kelly.

Overall, the book is a delightful office romance with a good balance of tension, passion, and character growth. The chemistry between Kelly and Jillian is undeniable, and the obstacles they face, both internal and external, make for a satisfying plot. Despite a few hiccups in pacing and character development, Writ of Love is a great debut for those who enjoy slow-burn romances with strong, career-driven leads. I look forward to reading more from the author in future.

Many thanks to Netgalley and Bold Strokes Books for a copy of this novel. ARC provided in exchange for an honest review.

My personal preference is not a just met, love scene. I like to have seen character chemistry. This book starts with a one night stand….. to forever obvs! Possibly because of my preference I didn't enjoy the first “intimate” scene. Actually it wasn’t intimate, it was a bit off a bingo card. Direction, strap on, incredible and of course baby and begging. (I realise this will be a plus to some!)
30% in, and the next intimate scene is at least after characterful interactions, which would have been fine, except the characters had just doubled up from laughter, from stuff that was perhaps smirk enduring rather than hysterical (in fairness, I have this gripe with many, many novels). I might be grumpy today, so going to stop reading now and try tomorrow.
Well I'm not sure if I'm less grumpy or not. I'm not enjoying any of the physical intimate scenes, hurt and injuries don't do it for me. For those that do, there is plenty to enjoy. I am enjoying the rest tho. I continued to enjoy the rest and towards the end of the book the intimate scenes were less, and as I didn't get any more fond of the style, for me this was a good thing.

would like to thank netgalley and the publishers for letting me read this book

if you like an office/lawyer trope then this is the book for you

jasmine aka jillian briggs had enjoyed her very energetic one night stand the other night what she wasnt expecting was the said one night stand to be standing in her office as her associate....

and neither did kelly.... it was jillian that recovered first and got kelly settled into her office.... but where they went from there is anyones guess....

and for the next two weeks jillian and kelly had to work together very close together on a case.....nothing awkward about that...right....

but pesky feelings and attractions kept getting the better of them....

this i have to admit was funny and illuminating to read...

i cant wait to read more of this authors books

I received an ARC copy of this book from the Publisher via Netgalley and voluntarily leaving my review.

Jillian is just got off a fresh divorce and is looking for a one night stand to blow off her troubles. Kelly has recently just graduated law school she has a lot of debt she gets a job at a big law firm that help her have less debt. Kelly and Jillian meet on a dating app and hit off and have a wild night. They are both shock to fight out Jillian is her boss but as both tries to stay professional their feelings starts to deepen. This was age gap romance both were likable although Jillian did get on my nerves a little great chemistry.

I just couldn't get into it.
The writing and the pacing just threw me off completely.

I found it rather boring and it didn't really read like a romance book, more erotica.
I also didn't like the way Jillian behaved and treated Kelly a lot of the time.

Probably won't pick up more books by the author, when she publishes more, since the writing really wasn't my cup of tea.

Steamy age gap, workplace romance. Lawyers are stubborn but oh so hot!

I received an advance copy from Netgalley for free and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

Kelly is one night away of starting her first real job at a major law firm. That must be the perfect night to finally explore her desires towards women, right? A one night stand would do it. After receiving a flirty message on a dating app, Kelly decides it’s now or never. The woman she meets at the bar is older, sexy as hell and very capable of ramping up Kelly’s desires. Too bad it was just one night. As Kelly walks into her brand new job, the one night rule might have to change, because her boss, at least for the next two weeks, is none other than the woman she spent a very pleasurable few hours with.

Jillian can’t believe her misfortune. With the ink still fresh on her divorce papers, she is confronted with the gorgeous woman she spent last night devouring in the sanctity of her bedroom. This cannot happen! Jillian has worked too hard the last twenty years to get to the top at the firm. Why does she have to be the one stuck with mentoring Kelly for two long weeks? And why, oh why, does this young woman have to be so beautiful and smart and kind and, don’t forget, sinfully sexy? Jillian feels her walls crumbling further every minute she spends with Kelly, until she can’t do anything else than dragging her back to bed. It has to be a secret though, no one at the office can find out…

Writ Of Love is full of steam. There is a bit of kinky BDSM play involved that makes the relationship between the main characters all the more interesting. The premise of the story is good, but for me, the characters felt a bit flat. I didn’t feel like I got to know them as well as I should have. There are glimpses into the women’s lives and pasts and while there are some painful memories for both, it all felt grabbed together and lacked intensity somehow.

I did like the way Jillian keeps fighting her attraction to Kelly until she just hasn’t got any willpower left. The moment she lets her desire for Kelly take over is a moment I was eagerly waiting for from the start. Where Kelly is very honest to herself about her growing feelings, Jillian sticks her head in the sand and continues to hide behind their physical relationship. I wanted to slap her with her own whip at one point to get her to acknowledge her love for Kelly. It was a relief when she finally did.

While this isn’t the intriguing story I was hoping for, the very spicy scenes almost make up for that. If that’s what you’re looking for, do give it a try!

⭐️⭐️⭐️💫 (3.5 stars)

Writ of Love caught my attention because the setup promises tension right from the start. Kelly begins her career as a young attorney in a demanding firm and suddenly realizes that her new boss is Jillian, the woman she spent a single night with. The story uses this moment well. Kelly and Jillian’s connection feels natural, and the early awkwardness gives the romance a steady pulse that carries through the book.
Besides, the law-firm setting adds pressure that pushes both women to show who they are when work and desire collide.
Kelly’s ambition shapes many of her decisions. You see how hard she tries to prove herself while still wanting something real outside the office. Jillian, on the other hand, hides behind control and routine. But once her guarded side starts to slip, their dynamic gains much more weight.
In my opinion, some scenes between them hit a nice emotional balance, where attraction and vulnerability come together without turning too sentimental.
The book has weaker moments too though. For one, the plot follows familiar paths, and you can see certain turns coming long before they arrive.
The middle part feels rather slow because the tension stalls instead of deepening. Jillian’s past, especially her divorce and trust issues, deserves more space than it gets. But I have to say that the final chapters tie things up neatly even though I felt like the conflicts resolve too quickly to feel fully earned.
As a whole, the novel delivers a steady and engaging romance that does its job without trying to be more than it is. You get a clear setting, two well-drawn leads, and a relationship that grows at a believable pace. If you enjoy office romance with an age gap, clear character stakes, and a mix of tension and warmth, this story gives you still a solid read.

"Wait," she panted. "We can't do this."
Kelly stared up at her, her cheeks flushed and her lips pink and swollen. "Right," she said dazedly. "But what if we did anyway?"
^ all encompassing line that has stayed with me and will forever. WHAT. IF. WE. DID. ANYWAY.

I finished this book in under 2 days, it pulled me and kept me wanting to keep going! I will say it is short - about 150 pages and and while I finished it wishing I had 150 more pages, it was a very easy, quick and enjoyable read. I'm already thinking about when I'll be reading it again! If you're like me and you don't always love the "filler" content in books and just want to stick to the story, this is the one for you. You have side characters and side stories but they move quickly and are used perfectly to keep the story going.

Please note this is also a STEAMY book, if you like str*p-on scenes, a little dominating, etc you won't be disappointed. This book really has it all!

The anxiety characters felt, felt truly real and made sense to me while reading. The push and pull did too. I wish I had amazing words to share about this book because it deserves it. When I was reading it, I found myself finishing whatever I was doing do I could get back to it quicker. It's a fantastic story that I recommend to anyone!

Thank you so much to Cassidy Crane, Bold Stroke Books and NetGalley for this ARC.

Why is it that when we finally get a BDSM romance with an actual age gap, it's half baked to the point of being more of a story outline than a novel?

My biggest problem with Writ of Love was that it was just too short. I'm not saying shorter books don't have their place, but when the narrative covers as much time and (theoretically) character development as much as this one, it's impossible to accomplish it in so few pages.

The entire plot moved at such a breakneck speed that barely any time was spent on the moments that should have made us empathise with and root for the leads. I rarely say this, but an additional 50-100 pages to explore the relationship between Kelly, Jillian, and the side characters would have done wonders for the narrative. The extra page time would have especially benefitted Jillian and her transformation from recent divorcee who doesn't want a relationship to finally falling in love with Kelly.

That brings me to my second big issue with the novel. It's no secret that Jillian is stringing Kelly along, doing basically everything involved in a relationship in secret without calling it as such. Her reasoning for the secrecy is that both of their careers would be ruined if the relationship came to light, yet when it eventually does surface, nothing of any real consequence takes place. Again, some extra pages would have really helped develop this plot point.

There's also the sex scenes which had the potential to have some real spice, but again, the insane speed at which the novel moved through meant there was no chance for us to see Jillian expose Kelly to the new kinks and toys we briefly see mentioned.

I've seen quite a few people make comparisons between this novel and J.J. Arias' Crossing the Line. The latter wasn't my favourite novel of hers, and it has plenty of pacing issues of its own, but at least it tried to flesh the characters out a little.

I got so excited when I realised this novel (actually, is it even a novel? I'm not sure of the actual cutoff, but personally I'd call it a novella) combined two of my favourite romance novel tropes. Ultimately though, I was pretty disappointed.

Writ of Love was a delight to read. The trope of two characters meeting each other at work after a fun one night stand is not new but it is a joy to see the characters squirm while they discover how much they truly care about each other.

Cassidy Crane delivers on that promise in this book, with the high-powered attorney Jillian Briggs who is looking for a celebratory romp after the finalisation of her divorce with the snarky ex. A hundred other partners in the firm and most would love to see her fail, and Jillian is not about to launch into something with a new recruit.

Kelly Lattimore is the newly minted lawyer, fresh from Harvard and Yale, who meets a hot older woman in a bar and has a fabulous night with her, only to find she’s the boss in her new job. She has a mountain of debt to pay off and working for a big firm is the most expedient way to do that before she focuses on pro bono work. Falling in love with the new boss is not in her career plan.

There are obstacles galore, both internal and external to the characters, which are well set up by Crane so the story has some bumps in it for delicious reading. The sex scenes are steamy and cleverly contribute to character development and to their dynamic as a pair. I needed to know what happened next to the characters and blew through this in a day. It was a joy to read.

Writ of Love is a legal office romance. Kelly Lattimore is fresh out of Harvard Law and starting at a Boston Law Firm. The night before she starts her job she engages in a one night hookup with a person she meets online. The woman is celebrating her divorce being official. The evening is hot and sensual but there are no plans to see each other again. Kelly is shocked when the next day her hook up is introduced as Jillian Briggs, a partner in the law firm.

Kelly doesn’t actually supervise Jillian which takes away some of the power imbalance. Jillian is 45 which is a big age gap that really doesn’t get explored much. Jillian is also a workaholic, but she does make time for Kelly. I’ve read similar books and I like that them being together is not a fireable offense. I like seeing how Jillian softens over the course of the book. Kelly has an interesting backstory which could have led to some drama but instead settles for a safe connecting with a half sister plotline.

I was happy with the story as an office romance. And I did like the extra story from Jillian’s past. I was engaged in the plot and read the book quickly. There were some things I wish were explored a bit more but overall I enjoyed the book. Thank you to NetGalley and Bold Strokes Books for the ARC and I am leaving an honest review.

4 stars. This was really good. I do think the last 15% or so lost a bit of steam but I also really appreciate that there is no third act break up. Hallelujah! I liked the writing. It's really good for a debut and I think Crane did really well telling this story in less than 200 pages. Jillian and Kelly are both developed well and I liked their romance a lot.

What I really loved though is that Jillian is the one that says I love you first. I go feral over the Ice Queen character being the first to admit her feelings. It just kills me dead every time and I loved it here. Both characters were likable and the drama that they faced felt real even though it was frustrating at times. Jillian does a lot of pushing away so she has do a bit of groveling. I also absolutely was NOT expecting the D/s elements in this but what a nice surprise! The sex scenes were pretty damn good and the characters had great chemistry. Overall, this was a solid debut and I will definitely be on the lookout for more from this author.

This book successfully combines elements of romance and professional dynamics, creating an engaging narrative. The initial one-night stand leading to an awkward work situation is a classic trope that often adds humor and tension, and it seems to be well-executed here.

Kelly's character as a dedicated lawyer with a strong moral compass provides a clear picture of her appeal, while Jillian's emotional complexity adds depth to the story. It's interesting to hear how Jillian's hot-and-cold behavior impacts your connection to her character and the overall relationship with Kelly.

The balance of tension, passion, and character growth is essential in a romance, and it’s great to see that the chemistry between the leads shines through. Despite some pacing and development issues, I recommend this story for readers who enjoy slow-burn romances with strong, career-driven characters is valuable. High Spice level, cold showers recommended.

Kelly Lattimore worked hard to become a lawyer, lots of late nights studying. Finally hired, she finds herself working in a big firm that picks the lawyer the company will hire by having them work with one of the lawyers in house.
Before she went for the final interview she spent the night with a beautiful stranger. Not something she usually does, but. Now she finds herself working with her one night stand. They didn’t even know each other's names. High powered lawyer Jillian Briggs was shocked when she saw who she had to work with and the first thing she let Kelly know was their night will never be repeated.
Like that was going to happen so, now when Jillian has a new case to work on she needs Kelly’s help. A good, simple romance that really works on a rainy day. Very enjoyable read.

Who doesn't love a steamy age gap workplace romance (Oh! The taboo of it all)

Kelly Lattimore aims to use her legal skills for good but finds herself in the demanding world of Big Law. After a surprising one-night stand with her new boss, Jillian Briggs, she’s determined to succeed and make her family proud.

Jillian, a beautiful and ambitious attorney, wants to avoid office romance, especially after her divorce. But when Kelly becomes her associate, their lives collide. Despite trying to keep things casual, their attraction grows stronger, making it harder to ignore their feelings.

Fun and a fast read, Writ of Love falls a little short in terms of bringing characters to life, but I found this quite enjoyable nonetheless.

I’m not usually a fan of one night to forever stories but the premise sounded interesting and this author is new to me so I decided to give it a try and I will say I was pleasantly surprised. I actually quite enjoyed the dynamic between the ice queen-ish Jillian and the much younger Kelly. It was a fun ride as they fell in love and while the story wasn’t necessarily groundbreaking, it was well done within its trope and I appreciated that Jillian wasn’t Kelly’s direct supervisor (which can sometimes feel a bit icky), and there was no third act breakup.

Overall a well done effort if you like one night to forever, offices romances, age gaps, or ice queens. Cassidy Crane is definitely an author I will read again.

I enjoyed reading this lawyer age gap book. It started as a one night stand, Kelly's first time with a woman, and then the next morning they end up at the same office. Kelly is a darling even if also she comes with a baggage, but Jillian with a bad divorce behind her is a really struggling with the thought of going for something more than a casual fling especially with someone so much younger than her. The extra complication that they work at the same office makes their romance even more of a challenge. After a lot of hot sex their feelings develop more and more but of course a lot of hick-ups on the way until they HEA. As a conclusion this is a nice light fun office romance read.

A smart, sizzling office romance that dives into the high-stakes world of Big Law, where ambition and desire collide. Kelly Lattimore is a determined young attorney about to start a new job. A one night stand before the big day couldn’t hurt. The last thing she expects is for her one-night stand to turn out to be her new boss, the formidable and stunning Jillian Briggs. And so, things get complicated fast. As they attempt to keep their relationship purely physical, deeper feelings begin to surface, testing both women’s boundaries and resolve. Fans of workplace romances will find it hard to put down!

"I hope you are able to help her love who she loves without fear" KICKING MY FEET! I devoured this in one sitting. The first meeting, to the first introduction I was hooked. The two weeks of forced proximity, Jillian not even realising herself what the trip to the lake house means. The way they tell each other about the past, the way assumptions are squashed. The family revelations, it's all in this book! In the end Jillians heart beats her brain and it had me cheering! The history between Jerome and Jillian and then the revelation MY HEART, this brought me to tears. I swooned i laughed i cried.

This was an enjoyable read, featuring office romance / one-night to workplace to forever romance, and age gap romance tropes. Kelly, a new associate at Jillian’s law firm, was definitely my favorite character. Jillian was written as harder and icier, but also had her soft moments - usually involving Kelly.

I got pulled into the story quickly, and read it nearly in one sitting (didn’t get anything else done that day!). Definitely a relatively low angst, low stakes/stress read that will be filed under my list of books to reread.

Writ of Love is a steamy age-gap workplace romance, brimming with passion and free from heavy drama and angst. It delves into themes of embracing change, opening up to others, and leaning into vulnerability while highlighting the importance of honesty and trust. The main characters are exceptionally likable, with subtle yet powerful arcs that leave a lasting impression. I found it hard to put down, as the story was utterly engrossing.

I really enjoyed this book; it's well-written, and the story unfolds beautifully.

Watching the love unfold and take place between the characters was lovely; I felt that both of them complemented each other very well.

Now about the characters: both of their pasts are touching and make sense for their personalities and who they are in the story. Jillian was the one I enjoyed most watching the love taking place, cause you feel a difference in the way she talks and acts with Kelly.
I felt that Kelly fell first, but Jillian fell harder.

About the steamy scenes, they are very well-written, some scenes more specific than others, but dirty talking is really present in this book.

Super recommend if you like office lawyer, boss-employee plus age-gap books!

This book is listed as a romance, but I found it has an erotica theme. Right at the beginning of the book there is sex, sex, and sex. You could tell it had some connection to the initial story line. Readers will immediately sense that there is more to follow.

There wasn't much meat to this story. Basically, two women meet up for a one-night stand. The next day they learn they have to work together as partners and new associates at a law firm. So, the story is basically about how are they going to work together and still be able to carry on with their sexual relationship.

The two main characters were not well developed. Their work and personality traits were seen through the sex scenes and their interactions at work.

I rate this book only as 2.5 out of 5 stars. For someone who wants to read about lesbian sex and get turned on, this would be a great book. Personally, I prefer a creative story, with interesting characters and some sex, preferably sex that isn't so explicit.

The night before starting a new job at a big law firm, Kelly decides to hook up with a woman for a one-night stand. While the sex was mind blowing, she knows it was a one-time thing, until she's face-to-face with this woman who's a partner at the firm and her supervisor for the first 2 weeks. Jillian is fresh out of a divorce from her former wife and is not about to get involved in another relationship. She cautions Kelly to act like their night together never happened, but soon the two are involved in what starts out as a friends with benefits situation.

This is a pretty standard age-gap, boss-employee set up, but what makes it interesting is Kelly's backstory having to do with her family. It's not a high angst plot and there are points when it's hard to like Jillian, but overall, it's a very solid and engaging romance with hot BDSM sex scenes that do not distract from the story.
