An ancient and supernatural force stalks the streets of Gotham City—a Lycan so powerful it’ll defy Batman’s most trusted his brilliant mind and extensive gadgetry. But are Batman’s physical strength and resilience alone enough to put the creature down for good? Or will this fight strip him down to his very bones? Even powerful magical allies like Zatanna caution that Bruce might not walk away from this one unscathed…Eisner-nominated writer Rodney Barnes (Killadelphia) and breakout artist Stevan Subic (The Year One) tear into a horrific tale of pain and redemption as Batman meets his the werewolf of Gotham City!
Bruce’s characterization feels a little off in this but overall this was pretty good. Haunting art and a fun mystery. I’m excited to see where it all goes- think it’ll make for a good mini.
I honestly don't know how I feel about this one. The art was cool. The Bruce and Zatanna dating storyline with Constantine, being the ex, was a good angle. But I just can't wrap my head around how Batman survived the first encounter with the werewolf. There was no explanation, he just somehow did. Hmm
This was a real middle of the road read for me. Felt like a good Elseworlds or Legends book from yesteryear. I loved the Werewolf stuff but really did not like the "Relationship" stuff. Does not seem to be needed at all in this book.
Wow what a great start. Has Batman ever fought a werewolf before? Probably. Has he done it to this bloody glorious extent? Hell nah!! The story itself is interesting, although I do have some questions about how the characters act in this alternate world, but the artwork is out of this word. Sure some of the faces look like the definition of bloodshot but when the actions scenes blend with the shadows it looks amazing. This story revolves around a man named Christopher Talbot. As it turns out, Wayne pharmaceuticals has a hidden branch dedicated to blending magic and science and they were attempting to heal Talbot who, while stationed in Romania, came in contact with a Lycan that infected him with the curse of being a werewolf. He came to Wayne pharmaceuticals looking for a cure, but one wrong step into the full moonlight from an overhead window…and the entire facility was ripped to shreds. don’t fully blame Christopher here, Batman may be a bit skeptical, but I do not believe he is doing any of this on purpose. All of the prior information was actually given to Batman by Kirk Langstrom. He has fully become man-bat, but is currently in remission and is doing contract work. One thing that confounds me is that Bruce really doesn’t seem to know anything about Talbot, dude…this was part of your company. I known most of the people involved are dead, but if you don’t know there is someone who does. Luckily for Batman, Zatanna also happens to be in town and has given him a few angry calls after being stood up once again. Now while she may be pissed, she also rescheduled for a morning meeting which will be very helpful…if Bruce looks past his skepticism a bit.
But I did get ahead of myself. After first coming across the scene at Wayne pharmaceuticals, Batman was immediately able to tell that some kind of animal ripped the people apart. It didn’t take long for a report of a beast at the local park to come through, and Batman and the GCPD proceeded to storm the park…it did not go well. Batman was completely caught off guard and was ripped apart…with Talbot walking into the night only to be found at rock bottom on an alley way that morning and brought to a local shelter. Bruce ended up getting that breakfast with Zatanna…where Constantine happened to drop by with a warning about just how badly it is going to get. But the issue proceeds to end on a bit of an odd note. Talbot was rescued and decide to pray with the sister who runs the mission. But as they prayed the moon shone full and Talbot began to transform right in the cathedral. Suddenly the windows crashed open and man-bar flew through, attacking the werewolf immediately. But right as it seemed the werewolf got the upper hand…Batman ran in and tackled him!! WHAT?! Where did they come from, how did they know he was there?! I mean it’s cool, don’t get me wrong, but how?!

A good first issue for this horror-esc Batman story.
The artwork is creepy yet sometimes doesn’t hit the mark. Ex: the eyes of Constantine and Batman. They look very strange; especially since the artist purposefully doesn’t show them at all throughout the issue at an art style. And switching to pages of Zatana feels like you’re going into a different issue with different artwork.
I appreciated how the author/artist never explicitly show the Werewolf until later in the issue. I fully expected it to be Man-Bat (because of the title…duhhhh) until Batman was peacefully talking to Kirk Langston. Kirk also explained that he is able to control his powers and that it’s not him. Definitely had me surprised to know that Kirk may actually be somewhat of a protagonist in this series…or very deceptive….
The one thing that worries me is the inclusion of Zatana and Constantine. Although I enjoy the characters, this story seemed like it was going to be grounded and Noir. I worry it will become a magical outbreak in the upcoming issues. We’ll see…

Well done. But I'm starting to have a me-problem with some forms of dark storytelling.
Telling dark stories in the first-person is exciting. We have SO MANY ways to describe darkness and negativity that I doubt we'll ever run out of novel ways to describe torment and pain and the desire to destroy.
I have revelled in it myself; the admiration that comes from issuing clever wordplay is somewhat addictive. But I wonder if our dark storytelling, rather than reflecting the world, helps create a darker world than what we found, not just perpetuating but amplifying the negativity we're trying (or we claim to be trying) to exorcise.
Man... I really wanted to love this but I left wanting more. I really enjoyed everything to do with the werewolf. The art. The dialogue. But when it came to Bruce and his relationships... Ehhhh. I felt like that part of the story wasn't needed. I liked 80% of the art. But some of the art looked rushed. Bummer.
I enjoyed this book, loved the cast of characters that show in this book. I love that the werewolf is the more traditional kind that turns on the full moon. I'm very interested to read more of this series as it comes out.
The art is good as well and fits the story nicely!
A well written and drawn comic, showing Batman going up against a Mysterious Werewolf, with a great cast of characters and cameos, I loved this first issue and I’ll definitely get the rest to see how it all pans out.
Illustrations were beautiful in some frames and jarring and disarming in others. Bruce was nearly unrecognizable (which is okay sometimes), and paired with the disjointed and incoherent narration and dialogue this is shaping up to be a bust of a plot line.
Love the Werewolf imagery, but maybe its very hard to not be overally critical of Batman in moments like when stating that Werewolves are Fairy tale creatures, sir you're dating a wizard. And uh have fought Aliens, Demons, and Gods ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
A wonderfully drawn Batman comic but light on a story. Batman seems bit ticked off and snarky in this. But overall it was a decent first issue, but seems most people are loving this one.
