Distortion was…guys…so intriguing. I got to Beta and ARC read for Kyra’s first dark contemporary, why-choose romance and it was SO fun! What can you expect you ask?

Daisy was discarded at an institution and forced to endure life there. When she finally has the chance to escape that hell hole, she finds herself stuck in a different kind of hell. One where three hot tormentors are now her babysitters at college. But between these men wreaking havoc on her emotions, trying to make a life for herself and notes appearing about the circumstances regarding her mother’s death, it’s starting to get to be a lot.
Blake, Shade and Mav are secretive, sometimes cruel and none of them know what to make of each other. But when Daisy appears to be more than they thought, well things get…intense and complicated. I loved Daisy. She was such a force to be reckoned with no matter all the crap thrown at her constantly. And it was a LOT. Blake, Shade and Mav were hard to like at first (in true Kyra fashion) but they grew on me and I can’t wait to see them become the ultimate protectors.
While this may have been a slow burn, it didn’t lack in sexy sexual tension. The plot was engaging and suspenseful and it ends in a true Kyra cliffhanger. Distortion has some triggers so be aware of that before reading but honestly I can’t wait to read about Daisy’s journey for answers and I hope her men get their sh*t together to be a part of it. I loved it!

I swear to you that Kyra Alessy has the most wonderful,kick-ass heroines,and Daisy sure is one of them!
Distortion introduces her at the tender age of 13,when she’s locked up in a British clinic by her stepfather and her mother.
Right there,at that start,she had my heart,and now,10 years later,i wish i was there with her.
To give her the love and support she so deserves, but missed all those years….but luckily she has Lu now.
That girl is the perfect friend for Daisy,she gives her space when she needs it,helps her with the stuff she doesn’t understand,and has her back.
“Shade”,Mav and Blake…..i wanted to smack those guys so very often for what they put Daisy through!
Shade is her stepbrother,and hasn’t seen her since she left all those years ago.
His father finally allowed her to return when her mother died 10 years later,and tells Shade she’s going to stay in his frathouse at Richmond University,and he’s enrolled her in English Lit.
That’s the moment Shade decides to mess with her until she behaves bad enough to be sent back to the clinic.
Because he,Mav and Blake have their own agenda…..one that will help him get out from under his father’s thumb,and make a carreer on his own,so he has no time to play babysitter.
They don’t care how badly it hurts Daisy,she hás to leave!
The lenghts they go to are despicable,but somewhere along the line,they start to see her for who she is.
And it doesn’t add up with what they thought…..especially after she switches from English Lit to Chemistry and Physics,and turns out to be a LOT smarter than they knew!
Trying to make her leave all of a sudden doesn’t sound like a good idea anymore…..but getting closer to her sure does!
But there are enough people left that would love to see the back of her,like the girls that hang out with Shade and Blake,or their former assistent Marcus.
And what’s with those mysterious letters saying Daisy’s mum was killed?
Who’s behind those,and if she wás killed who’s the killer,and why??
What’s her stepfather’s agenda,why did he marry her mother,why did he have Daisy commited to that clinic?
And why is she allowed out now,if all he seems to want,is for her to fail?
What really happened in that clinic all those years?
The cliffhanger i’m left with breaks my heart,and i desperately need Degradation to heal it!
Daisy may be neurodivergent,but if there’s one good thing about those years in that clinic,it’s that she now has tools to help her deal with everything she’s going through now.
She’s tough,resilient,she takes the time to analyse people’s behaviour,compares it to what she’s experienced in the clinic,and uses it to her benefit.
She may be lonely,but she’s free,and she’s made a friend who makes up for those bullies all by herself.
And now that Shade,Mav and Blake finally get their heads out of their arses,i hope they start treating her like the beautiful girl she is…..after they grovel sufficiently,that is!

Been thinking about this book since I finished!
It starts out where Daisy is suddenly dropped off at The Heath which is an institution in England, far from her home. She gets pulled from their car and thinks she will only be staying for a little while when in reality she is there from a young age to 19. She gets to go home for her mom’s funeral and if she “behaves” and keeps inline she will get to stay home and out of The Heath.
Daisy finds herself being babysat by her stepbrother and his two other fraternity brothers. Any step out of bounds or rule breaks reported from the guys to her stepdad will get her shipped back to where she came from. Daisy follows the rules and keeps her head down even though the three guys and the rest of the fraternity house are making it really hard for her. These parts of the book are heart breaking cause one really hopes people wouldn’t treat someone the way these guys do her but I know they do.
Daisy is trying to figure out life outside the institution and doing a hell of a job keeping herself in check when dealing with the guys who are tormenting her. She made me laugh out loud in multiple parts of the book cause she was actually so funny.
Daisy starts getting notes saying that she needs to look into her mom’s death and is wondering if they are a part of the guys plan to mess with her or if something really did happen. She tells her friend about the notes who then goes and warns her stepbrother about Daisy being in actual danger due to the notes. We don’t find much more in the book other then maybe the car was driven by someone else. Can’t wait for book two cause it ends on a cliffhanger that will leave you wanting more!

Distortion by Kyra is exactly what you need. This book is intense in all the best ways and had me absolutely screaming as I read.
Daisy, our incredible main character, is one of the most complex and refreshing FMCs I’ve read. She’s brilliant, unfiltered, and completely unapologetic a neurodivergent queen who brings so much raw honesty and wit to the story. After being isolated for a decade, Daisy’s back in her stepbrother Shade’s house, where she’s now living with him and his friends, Mav and Blake. And let me tell you, the dynamics are nothing short of electrifying. The chemistry with these three alpha males is explosive, balancing right on the edge between destroying her and devouring her. The tension? OFF THE CHARTS! . The mind games? ABSOLUTELY BRUTAL!! Poor Daisy is getting so much emotional whiplash it’s unbelievable.
‘It’s time these men who think themselves so far above me learned that while the daisies in their world might be easily ripped up, or crushed underfoot, in my world they have thorns ... and also they bite. It’s my world so maybe they’re radioactive, too. Anyway, they’re smart and dangerous. I’m smart and dangerous.’
What I love most is how Kyra has created a dark romance that doesn’t just lean on intensity and spice though there’s plenty of tension with a bit of spice but also brings in depth, representation, and a genuine exploration of perception and power. Daisy’s neurodivergent traits aren’t just tossed in for show. Instead, Kyra masterfully weaves them into Daisy’s character in a way that feels authentic and powerful. It’s rare to see this level of thoughtful representation in dark romance, and it elevates the story to another level.
And the little details like the Pop-Tart moment in the frat house kitchen at 4 AM? Complete BOSS MOVE!!These scenes bring humor and humanity that only make the dark, intense moments hit harder.

This book has all the ingredients to be a book I wouldn’t typically enjoy but… I really enjoyed this🫣 it was intriguing, crazy & wild! It will have you wanting more & not being able to put the book down. It’s packed full of secrets, twists, mind games, & mystery, & ends on a cliffhanger so I’ll definitely need to read the next book to know what happens👀
I don’t typically like bully romances and there were so many points in this book where I had to stop and remind myself that all the ableism & everything that was happening in the book was put there on purpose for the sake of the story😅 but regardless it made me SO sad & angry for Daisy! However, I think autism was represented really well & accurately in this book which was wonderful👏🏼
Daisy is treated like absolute shit. She’s bullied, physically abused, tormented, & is constantly bombarded with ableist comments however she’s a force to be reckoned with & doesn’t let the bullies win. She’s strong, & brave yet naive too. She’s a sweetheart who deserves a HEA. MAV, Shade & Blake are total assholes for most of the book. They had my blood boiling with everything they put Daisy through. But I’m also so curious about what they’re hiding because there’s a lot more to them than we are aware.

Characters - 10/10
These boys are the epitome of the stereotypical college frat boy, but taken to an extreme. They're cruel, heartless, and downright despicable. I can't wait to witness their journey toward redemption and the consequences they'll face. Daisy is an incredibly strong and resilient female lead. The portrayal of autism is both accurate and inspiring. She's witty, well-developed, and truly captivating. Watching her growth and transformation throughout the story is incredibly rewarding. I'm particularly intrigued by the glimpses of her authentic self emerging around the 80% mark, and I can’t wait to discover who she truly is beyond the facade she's built.
Atmosphere/Setting - 10/10
I'm absolutely captivated by this world and the intricate details that shape it. Kyra's vivid descriptions brought the story to life, playing out like a cinematic experience in my mind. Every page was a delight to read.
Writing Style - 10/10
Kyra's writing is so immersive, you'll lose track of time and forget about your real-world obligations. Consider yourself warned: this book is highly addictive.
Plot - 10/10
I'm usually pretty good at predicting plot twists, but this book kept me completely guessing. I couldn't put it down until I reached the end. The plot is gripping and incredibly engaging.
Intrigue - 10/10
I was so engrossed in this book, I completely lost track of time and neglected all my responsibilities. I couldn't contain my laughter, which led to a temporary banishment from the bedroom because I kept waking my husband up.
Logic/Relationship - 10/10

These boys are the epitome of the stereotypical college frat boy, but taken to an extreme. They're cruel, heartless, and downright despicable. I can't wait to witness their journey toward redemption and the consequences they'll face. Daisy is an incredibly strong and resilient female lead. The portrayal of autism is both accurate and inspiring. She's witty, well-developed, and truly captivating. Watching her growth and transformation throughout the story is incredibly rewarding. I'm particularly intrigued by the glimpses of her authentic self emerging around the 80% mark, and I can’t wait to discover who she truly is beyond the facade she's built.
Atmosphere/Setting - 10/10
I'm absolutely captivated by this world and the intricate details that shape it. Kyra's vivid descriptions brought the story to life, playing out like a cinematic experience in my mind. Every page was a delight to read.

I'm usually pretty good at predicting plot twists, but this book kept me completely guessing. I couldn't put it down until I reached the end. The plot is gripping and incredibly engaging.

This is a bully romance in the truest sense, but I'm hoping it will evolve past. It ends on a cliffhanger that had me craving more. I will definitely be reading the reminder of this series as well as checking out the authors' past works.
These characters are well fleshed out and very likable (despite all their male dumbass decisions). The FMC is strong and admirable in the face of adversity.

Daisy is a resilient, strong, and intelligent woman. She is determined to live in the outside world. Unfortunately, she finds that people may still not be very welcoming to her, even those she has pleasant memories of from before she was sent away.
Jack (Shade) doesn't know what to think of his stepsister, but he knows he wants her gone. He and his two best friends, Mav and Blake, can't have her discovering their secrets. They decide to use her struggles against her to get her sent back to the clinic. Only the more time they spend with her, the more they realize she isn't how they expected her to be. They are forced to question what they have been told about Daisy as well as their preconceived notions about autistic people.
As an Autistic woman who was not diagnosed until my 30s, I can relate to Daisy, although my lived experience is different from hers. I relate mostly to Daisy's inner dialogue about her discomfort with sensory stimulation and social anxiety. Daisy is put through ABA "therapy." This was a PHENOMENAL read!! It drew me in from the very beginning and refused to let go. The entire plot line was excellent, but the autistic storyline and how they tried to “treat” it and deal with it, was so interesting and heartbreaking at the same time. Daisy is such a strong and determined person despite all she’s been through. She’s just trying to fit in in a world she doesn’t quite understand after being locked away for so long. I really wanted to hate the guys in the beginning, especially Shade, even though there were glimpses of goodness in them. As time went on, I fell for them, especially Mav, he’s my favorite 🥰. The ending left me speechless, and so upset that we have to wait so long for the next book!! Be sure to look over the TW, but this one is a definite add to your TBR!!

This is one of those books you don’t want to end! I kept looking at the percentage and being sad knowing it was almost over!
Daisy is 13 when she is sent to a facility to correct her “behavior”. When her mom passes away a decade later she is allowed to return to the US for the funeral. Her step-father enrolls her in college and expects her to fail. Her step-brother is told to watch her but he wants her gone so he makes her life miserable with the help of his best friends and his entire frat. Yes the entire frat is to treat her terribly. The things they say and what they call her is so awful. They aren’t allowed to physically hurt her so she is saved from that until the mean girls decide to do their thing. Through it all she makes a friend and keeps her head held high. Daisy is a STEM girl and so smart with chemistry it’s insane. She is strong and kind leaving you no choice but to root for her success and wellbeing. There is very minimal spice and it’s not needed. The tension is perfect!
This book ends in a cliffhanger and I will be counting down the days until the next book comes out!!

I absolutely love this book. Kyra is a such an amazing author I love her work, which has mostly consisted in why choose romantasy. With this new shift into regular romance she continues to show, how great of an author she is. Distortion is a college based why choose mystery bully romance story, with the main character “Daisy” being autistic. Daisy is such a like able character, her so called abnormalities just makes her adorable. Kyra does a great job with her character, demonstrating how her traumatic past has developed into who she is now. Cant wait for the character development of the men when they find out more about her past. That ending though I was not expecting it to end just like that, I was so sad it ended. Can’t wait for Degradation to come out.

This was a really great story. Kyra Alessy's stories/writing always captivates me, keeping me wanting to know more. On a personal level, I am a parent to a child who is autistic. Some of the behaviors that were displayed/described or talked about I was able to resonate with.
I hope with the next book, we get a little more info on Daisy's time at the Heath. The incident that happened when she was 13. Who's been leaving messages to have her look into her mother's death, (for a short time, I was thinking it was Shade, but now I'm not so sure). And what is John Novelle up to.
Between Shade, Blake, and Mav. I Like Mav the most since he was the first to take her feelings into consideration when she gets stressed. I can't wait to see how all four of their relationships progress.

Talk about a book full of tropes I love...
Enimies to lovers, why choose, stepbrother, an autistic FMC, and so much more!!
I devoured this book and couldn't put it down!
It was full of mystery, secrets, lots of emotional moments, and tension.
Daisy was a fantastic FMC. Despite the bullying and all that she has been put through, she is still a fighter. I love her.
The jury is still out on Shade, Blake, and Mav. They really frustrated me at times, but slowly they're coming around.
However, Kyra always manages to make me love them in the end.
What a fantastic set up for Daisy's story!
I look forward to book 2, following that cliffhanger ending!

All I can say is WOW!!! This is another amazing read from Kyra and I just devoured it. It’s her first contemporary dark romance and I hope there are a lot more to come.
It had me hooked from the first chapter. The character building, the gritty past resurfacing, the misunderstandings, blackmail and secrets all suck you in.
I absolutely loved Daisy, the MFC, who is so naive about most things and I admired her for putting up with so much hassle. You see her become stronger as the story progresses.
The MMC’s, Shade, Mav and Blake, grew on me and half way through I really started to see them in a new light. They’re possessive and shady and I’m still not sure they can be trusted but they’re hot and seem to have morals 😂
The ending just k!led me. I mean what the freaking hell??? So much happened in the last couple of pages my brain overloaded and we were left with a biiiiig cliffhanger. I am so looking forward to reading the next book.

Wow. I finished this book and wonder what exactly I read. Daisy, the heroine, is neurodivergent and has been swallowed up by the world. Taught to decode some signals she is let loose in an academic setting with the assumption that she will fail. Three young men go out of their way to make her as miserable as possible. This is a young woman who is determined to make it, to not be institutionalized again. This is a brutal portrayal of bullying. It is amazing. I feel everyone needs to read it in order to increase awareness of the innocents among us that just want to be accepted.

This is an awesome book containing two of my favourite tropes, bullies and stepbrother.
Daisy you really feel for, she has been all alone since being placed in the clinic in England and tho free now life on the outside is hard for her.
It certainly doesn’t help to have an evil stepfather with nefarious plans and to be only seen as an encumbrance and obstacle by her stepbrother “Shade”. Some of the stuff that happens to Daisy at his instigation made me so mad with him and his friends.
Would like to find out more about his relationship with his father and the family business.
The storyline is intriguing and I’m dying to find out more. The dynamic between Mav, Blake and Shade is fascinating, Shade seems to be the leader. Would love to know how the guys met and their big plan to escape his father’s clutches.
Daisy is ecstatic to have been released from the clinic, being supposedly cured and is desperate to never be sent back there. Love how she’s coming into her own as she changes her courses.
There’s definitely more to her mother’s death, will she eventually find out the truth and who is sending her the threatening notes. I have so many questions

This is it! The book that broke my slump. I can't say enough how good Distortion is. The only con? That it ended. We have Daisy, our neurodiverse FMC, trying to live a normal life after a decade of mistreatment. Up against her, our MMCs Shade, Blake and Mav who need to get her out of there lives to fulfill their own agendas. To do this though, they treat her like garbage. Dirty rotten garbage. Luckily for our girl, she has a ride or die bestie in Lu. If bullying triggers you beware, but the ANGST in this book. I live for the drama and for the day Daisy stands over those boys with a heel on their chest pinning them down.
I also really appreciated a glimpse into the lives of those who are neurodivergent and reading some of the atrocities committed against them has my blood boiling. You are seen, you are heard, you are special. Beautiful writing Kyra. I so enjoyed this and cannot wait for part 2. For now, those boys get all the swear words and you get all the stars 🌟.

Wowwwww! THIS BOOK WAS AMAZING!!!!!!!!! It out you up close and personal with a person with autism trying to struggle in the real world and how they would manage it. It had plot twists and so many feelings. I had so many feelings reading this book that I just want the next one to come out so I can keep reading. Holy crap that was amazing!

Has some sensitive themes that are strong and may disturb some readers but,in my opinion only makes the story more intense and real.

November 22, 2024Distortion is one crazy ride. I would honestly give more stars if I could. We meet Daisy and let me tell you this young lady is instantly lovable. But, we also see how rough of a life she has had. We follow her on this journey as she try’s to navigate different surroundings and an atmosphere in the college. The story does have some possible triggers but they are written extremely well. We meet Shade, Mav, and Blake soon in the story. While they are not as easily likable at first we see changes throughout the story. The story has a lot of drama, suspense, action, and a bit of mystery. The story pulled me in and honestly couldn’t put it down. But, we get to the end of this book and have an extremely major cliffhanger that has me on the edge of my seat with anticipation. I absolutely cannot wait for the next book. Crazy Good!

I like dark romance.
I like going from enemies to lovers, I like smart, charimastic and hot men bullying a strong woman who retorts.
It's toxic, but I like the way they can't break her.
I like the banter between the MC and the MLS, I like the action it brings between them and I like that dark men are usually the most possessive and protective ones towards the MC.
I like an awesome plot with some dark romance.
But all of it isn't there in this book.

I don't like ML telling EVERYONE at school to bully her too.
I don't like MLs who doesn't have any reason at all to bully her.
I don't like MLs constantly having s*x with OW.
I don't like the way the MC just endure it all bc she's broken and they're too dumb to see that, thinking she's just arrogant (wtf ?)
The only plot is just the bullying and some plan they have and them whining she make them lose their time on her when she doesn't need them at all.
Anyway, there are different types on dark novels.
I like going from enemies to lovers, I like smart, charimastic and hot men bullying a strong woman who retorts.
It's toxic, but I like the way they can't break her.
I like the banter between the MC and the MLS, I like the action it brings between them and I like that dark men are usually the most possessive and protective ones towards the MC.
I like an awesome plot with some dark romance.
But all of it isn't there in this book.

The reason for the bullying is thin and not well developed.
Shade, who hates his father and doesn't believe things that he says and does, takes his word as gospel as it pertains to Daisy. That was a major plot hole and didn't make sense in terms of the character (Shade).
While others had said that Daisy is a strong FMC, I would push back a bit on that. She is written well and is well developed but she isn't strong. Her body and mind are just used to nine years of torture and bullying, so what the college kids do isn't anything new to her.
However, the men could be written better. They are interchangeable and nothing really stands out about them.
This could have been a dark romance without the sexual punishment and the sexual assault. That didn't fit in the story and it was written as if the author was like "okay, we need to have a SA scene soon."
And because this is the start of a RH, there are some dumb nicknames:
Tulip, princess, shut-in, kitten, beautiful.
