Scott Snyder is the Eisner and Harvey Award winning writer on DC Comics Batman, Swamp Thing, and his original series for Vertigo, American Vampire. He is also the author of the short story collection, Voodoo Heart, published by the Dial Press in 2006. The paperback version was published in the summer of 2007.

It is a rather thick volume and I'd skimmed through the whole thing, the artwork is stunning so I will try to read it again more carefully.

This is what I call a banger vampire story.
Enjoyed the book more than I thought i would.
King and Synder s heartwarming dialogues ably supported by Albuquerque s misty shadowy art.
Why this book is not overhyped escapes me?
Starts off with Skinner Sweet and Pearl origin arcs , I however enjoyed Skinner Sweet arc more felt like I was watching a Western.
The book comes on it own with the Devil in the Sand story arc which is a nice mix of mystery and a unique take on a father son relationship which transcends all boundaries.
Even vampires fall in love , vampires go through crisis , vampires unsure about their futures .
Collect , consume , devour. Hype it!

The story of Skinner Sweet and Pearl Jones is a hell of a modern American vampire classic. i love the premise behind the book and Scott Snyder and Stephen King are a fantastic duo bringing this new American-Gothic tale to life.

The concept — mix vampire blood with patriot blood and you get a new kind of vampire — is really neat. This one does a fine job setting the stage for more issues. But it really took the long way to figuring out what it is. The alternating authors between Snyder and King made the storytelling feel disjointed. I’m not sure any of the characters outside of Skinner Sweet are any good (quality, not morality). It was just barely good enough for me to want to try another volume. The art is the best part so far. I hope the rest catches up.

Um okay so this was incredible. Read in a day. I didn't quite get that it was different storylines all combined into one book. But honestly that didn't matter because it still flowed together. They already had me out the gate with vampires. And then adding additional lore? Huge for me! I loved the revenge, the action, the fight scenes, and the whole book was just beautifully illustrated. Graphic novels deserve the whole world, there is so much work put into them and I just love it.
