What do you do when you show up at an apartment to pick up your blind date and she mistakes you for her kid's sitter? Lesbian rock star EJ Way decides to be the sitter for the night. This was a okay book but a terrible romance.
Ellie was mistaken as a babysitter by her date, Ria and instead of correcting her she just kept babysitting and falling more in love with Ria while Ria goes out on dates with other people. She even led Ria to believe that she has a girlfriend. Why just why? Ellie wasn't just stuck in friend zone she intentionally locked the door and barricaded the windows.

Another thing that bothered me was we were kept completely in the dark with regards to Ria's feelings for Ellie. The little clues that let us know that the love interest is actually interested in the MC were absent here.

The relationship was pretty lopsided. Ria just strung Ellie along even though she was in a relationship and knew how Ellie felt. Ria decided to take a break with Gwen because Gwen was terrible not because of Ellie's love confession meant anything or the fact that Gwen disliked her kid. So not only a great girlfriend, Ria was mother of the year too!

“But funny because you didn't kiss me until you knew I was EJ.”

This just solidified my belief that Ria didn't feel as much for Ellie. I know the author didn't intend it as such but Ria being with Ellie seemed to be because of her daughter mostly. She never wanted to compromise and ran away from Ellie over every little thing. I have never disliked a love interest this much before. Ellie deserved much better since she is basically a saint. This romance did not scream soulmate or true love to me.

I rather enjoyed this one, surprised me how much I did. Though for a while there I wanted to reach into the book and squeeze Ria's neck a little, you know, just a little.

Maggie - the kid, Ellie - the rockstar, and Ria - the annoyingly heartbreaking-esque mother of Maggie, were all lovely characters. A few of the side characters were quite interesting as well.

There were one or 8 errors here and there. I do not normally notice or care, but there was at least once that I got briefly pulled out of the story because of it (it was a scene where one of the characters were talking, and they said something to the other - and the wrong name was used (their own) instead of the other person's name).

Wasn't an error, per se, but another tiny bit of annoyance was the text messages. In and of itself, they worked - it was just the part wherein I didn't always know which text were by which sender. Didn't help that that part was all in italics and, at times, 'mushed' together in a vaguely hard to read way.

Overall, though, an enjoyable and readable book.

One last thought - I just read a book that was about 259 pages (out of 264) eroticism, so the relatively low key graphic nature of this book was meet by me in a way that might not be similar to someone coming to this book without that filter . . um . . prior read . . something. Okay, my point is that some might, or might not, be annoyed by the relatively low key graphic nature of the book. I found it down right pleasant or something like that.

DNF. I got through 60-70% of the book but I can't take Ria anymore. She's too much of a contradiction and at this point I just hate her character. More in the spoiler tags.

There are also some annoying tropes like an opportunistic celeb ex (who is also flat as a washboard as far as characterization goes in this case) and agents/producers who actively work against their employer's interests to generate celeb gossip.

And secondary characters have all been flat so far.

I do like the premise, Ellie and Maggie are wonderful characters but Ria soured this book for me to the point I don't want to finish it anymore.

So I probably wouldn't have finished this book if I didn't have the flu. I have to agree with Arn and Lexxi Kitty even tho both of them have such divers opinions of this book. I loved Ellie and Maggie but am a bit wary of Ria. At some point I thought lets just kill Ria and have Ellie adopted Maggie.

In the end I am glad I finished this book but it had way to much heartbreak.

I love this sort of story - the famous person and the one wondering why she was chosen. A bit confusing towards the end - just why? - or perhaps Why Not? - but the kid kept it all together. Fairy tale ish, but I love that sort if stuff.

Embarrassingly cheesy. Too much lesbian U-hauling. Unrealistic elements. Boring characters.

Some nice banter, but that's about the only thing positive I can say about the story. Tried, but couldn't finish it. Gave it up after having read 3/4 of it.

Can't even be bothered to write a real review with real sentences for this one.

Any book that keeps me reading until the wee hours of the morning, only getting two hours of sleep before having to get up for work, is worthy of a decent rating / review. I'm not saying that this book is perfect - it's far from it.

There are editing issues and the 'hot and cold / back and forth' relationship drove me up the wall at times but overall is was a lovely, sweet read.

On a side note, Maggie's personality shone from the pages and I'd really love to read a sequel featuring her all grown up as a successful rock star :-)

Good story, great interactions between the characters and the child!! Some typo's but not a deal breaker for me. At one point the push away, pull close of the relationship ( let's be together, I can't be with you) got to be over done, but it all resolved.

Truly an enjoyable read.
If you enjoyed Popcorn Love and Flight SQA016 you will love this book too. Even though Love's Autograph is different in ways it has that same sense of fun and quirkiness of the books I mentioned.
Have fun with the characters and enjoy.

The beginning of the book is very good, but it went downhill at around 30% mark. I can't seem to like Ria as a character, much less liking her as a potential love partner for the protagonist. There's no chemistry nor any spark between the main couple. I'm really glad the author noticed Ria's flaws in the story, but she barely did anything to fix that. The worst part is when I actually rooted Ellie to be with another woman instead of Ria!

Imagine someone did everything wrong as your lover, after a while they said sorry, they noticed their mistakes, they regretted their decisions etc; then you and that person got back together as a happily ever after couple. The End. This is that kind of story.

Ellie did so much for Ria but we didn't really see much of Ria's love in return. That's one of the main reason why I couldn't get into this book.
I'm pretty sure that the dialogues in this story took more than half of the book, editing skill also need improvement (not a deal breaker for me), too much random time-skippings, and the side characters are like cardboard boxes (most of them).

PS: As for those who wondering about the sex scenes. It's a fade-to-black kind of scenes, so don't expect any explicit materials in here.

A popular rock star, EJ Way decides to go on a blind date at the prompting of her friend. She was texted the time and address to her meet her date. However, her date mistakes EJ for her daughter's babysitter! A mix up in communication somewhere.... EJ decides to look after Ria's eleven year old autistic daughter. Ria is a single mother who has decided to return to the dating scene after the breakdown of her relationship, but is finding the date scene difficult. EJ senses that Ria needs support which she is happy to give. But, EJ is slowly falling in love with Ria and developing a special bond with Ria's daughter. Soon, it is becoming difficult for EJ to watch Ria go out on her dates. Can Ria see EJ's growing attraction to her before it's too late?

This statement by Jules, "I've always believed that special kids belong to/with special moms. In this case the kid hit the jackpot. She has her own unique vision of the world and requires a lot of attention, which her mom never fails to deliver. Then, she befriends this sensitive babysitter/musician who just gets her."; really sums it up for me. I enjoy reading lesbian books with children in them who are not a side note but main characters who are integral to the story. Also, where they are loved and cared for. Ria and Ellie are very good at making sure Maggie's needs are met. Light and fun read.

Really enjoyed this one and couldn't put it down. The sex scenes all fade to black, but if you really need/want an explicit scene between Ria and Ellie, there's a one in her short story collection Surpassing (although I recommend the two stories with these characters anyway because they are lovely).

It's not a perfect book, but it hit all the right buttons for me so I ended up buying it despite starting out by borrowing it from Kindle Unlimited. I will definitely read this one again.

Honestly I only liked it because it was sapphic. It was painfully mediocre. When it came to technical writing and quality control, the writing was janky at times and the chemistry felt forced. Maggie was the best part of the book, she's autistic and while she does fit in the stereotypical autistic savant box she was the most interesting character with the most depth. she bumped this from a 1 star to a 2

Sure, needs editing and stuff, so what? The day I can write a book and publish it independently is the day I can judge someone's work based on it's editing. Probably not even then.

In a nutshell: Ria, a surgeon (who hangs out in a Jetta) (what??) and Ellie, a famous musician, are an unlikely pair who meet under the weirdest circumstances. Rock star's there for a date, said date says hello to babysitter-not-date, rock star goes with it. Yeah... Awkward!

Ria and Ellie click from the start, and obviously the babysitter thing is what helps them get closer. People tend to be more open and relaxed and just themselves when they don't feel scrutinized by others. That's why dating is so weird and generally meaningless. You show your best self, outfit included. It's not real. The way these two meet, we'll, it's as real as it gets: here's my kid, I'm going out; sure, have fun on your date; it was horrible; have a beer tell me all about it... You get the picture. From Ellie's point of view you learn that she's going, going and long gone for Ria... and though she doesn't say it, Ria drops her own hints along the way. I think it works. Of course, circumstances and bad decisions get in the way and the plot thickens.

I pretty much fell for Maggie when she opened the door. I've always believed that special kids belong to/with special moms. In this case the kid hit the jackpot. She has her own unique vision of the world and requires a lot of attention, which her mom never fails to deliver. Then, she befriends this sensitive babysitter/musician who just gets her. (The thing with the cartoons cracked me up, by the way.) Mom and babysitter get together: jackpot.

It's worth a read. I loved it.

a very good and easy read. just about halfway through some of the character named get mixed up but it is only between EJ, Ria, and Maggie so it's relatively easy to decipher sporadically for the rest of the novel. it's a lovely story with good humor and some surprises as far as the relationship. it's something that I will definitely read again.

This was an okay romance. I enjoyed Ellie's character - she was a strong, passionate woman who through herself into all she did. But I kept wondering what she saw in Ria who kept saying "Yes" then "No" - she wanted the good times but not everything that went with it. Because of that I was glad that the book ended. Ria's daughter, Maggie was the bright spot in the book and I would have loved to read more about her. The relationship between her and Ellie seemed better than Maggie and her mom's.

The story itself was okay, but the book definitely needs an editor (comma rules are overrated, but still ;) The main characters are likable and nice but I'm missing the sparks between them. It's more like a fanfiction kind of story but still entertaining.

I liked the premise. I mostly liked Ellie as a character. Maggie was a new and great character experience. I loved their interactions. I quite enjoyed the ending chapters, made it worth reading through what I outline below.

I quite disliked Ria as a character, I sometimes considered not finishing. Two other things detracted from the experience. I'm never really fond of most sex scenes but I have appreciated good ones in the past, the first one in this book felt stilted in a way. The second thing is the overuse of character names. In scenes where "she" could of been used just as well as "Ellie" and make as much sense, this was really prevalent in the sex scene.

This book was adorable. There were some grammatical and spelling errors, but they didn't really distract too much from the book. The angst between the two main characters is kind of played up a bit, in my opinion, but the ending makes up for it deliciously. Is it cheesy? Yes. But it's the sort of cheesy that is actually really fun to read when you're in a sappy kind of mood. The way Ellie interacts with her love interest's daughter is very sweet, too, and was one of my favorite parts of the book.

I'd wholeheartedly recommend reading it!

I made the mistake of not getting a free sample of the book before buying. If I hadn't paid for the whole thing I'd have not read past the first few pages.
The whole thing reads to me like someone's collection of daydream episodes of being a lesbian rock star, full of private planes and throwing money around, and being awesome but also super sweet. I didn't like either of the main characters. And about 1/2 way through I was really hoping that they would not end up together, because their whole relationship seemed sort of toxic.
A small thing that annoyed me immensely was how many times the rock star says "I'm rich...[so I bought the guitar/ your dinner/ a house/ ....]." No rich person says that. Certainly not one who is meant to be nice....

really loved the book . amazing banter and bonding of Ellie and Maggie is phenomenal along with best humor . this was full package angst , flirting , romance , humor and even side characters played their full part . the only flaw is with character development of ria . i only read about the ria with whom ellie was in love with not the ria as whole person - her fears , her insecurities , her POV . Even the side characters were majorly ellie's acquaintances . maggie's part is a huge bonus though

A good rainy vacation day read! It took me a little bit to get into it, but once I did I had no problem reading it through to the end. There were some copy editing issues, but not the worst I've seen by far. Maggie was definitely my favorite character - I couldn't wait to see what she would say next! And I definitely wanted to slap both Ellie and Ria on the back of their heads more than once. People in love can be so stupid sometimes!

Sweet romance

Not your typical rock star romance story. It had a few surprising twists which made it a fresh story. Very likeable main characters. Lots of moments both funny and sweet. This was a fun read.

I enjoyed the story. I found Ria’s character was somewhat immature and slightly manipulative. It was frustrating, but not outside the realm of reality. There are people like Ria out there in this world. It would be wonderful to get a series where we get to follow the other characters. Jazzie, Dina, and Davie.

3.5/5 stars.

I read this book in a day. In saying that I wanted to give a potential reader the sense that I didn't give up on this story, found it to entertain me and occupy my time. However did I find it to be earth-shattering? An all out GREAT read? No.

One thing the book does have for it is the characters. Rockstar Ellie gets confused as being the baby sitter to mildly autistic 11 year old Maggie instead of the blind date to hot surgeon Mom, Ria, who of course Ellie instantly falls for. I'm still not EXACTLY sure how the blind date gets confused as the sitter but the chemistry between Ellie and Maggie was cute. Ria is a sexy character though and I couldn't wait for her to get on board the "Ellie is awesome" train. Some of the lines are good. Dialogue funny. But you can obviously SEE that Ellie and Ria should be together but Ellie keeps her rockstar status, her true identity hidden, which I think was wildly unfair on both.

The one thing that was distracting for me is that since Ellie is a song writer, there are these (I think) unnecessary lyrics through out the book. I often wonder whether authors like this or hate this. It asks the fiction writer to stretch their poetic/song writing prowess and that just opens a work up for greater critique.

One complaint I DO have is the poorly written sex scene. Oh there is one, and I gather it's steamy, but I think the author could have been just a tad more descriptive. Some readers live for the reward in that scene. The book has built it up! Ever finish a sex scene and think, "Wait? What just happened? Are we talking a little fingering? A lot? They were touching right?" I was waiting for Ellie and Ria. Loved them so much and it was a little nipple action, kissing naked for an hour and then more kissing again. You can write the money shot and have it be a beautiful most wonderful thing ever.

Anyway. This one was read and can be shelved. I don't know that I'd pick it up again. Maybe to skim through. Near the end I was becoming so impatient with both characters though. I'm glad they made up for my sanity.
