I read this for bedtime devotions. It was stretching. One reviewer observed that the Sisters prayed for things, both small and “impossible, that the Spirit quickened in them while in prayer. I want to listen better, to be able to hear the things God wants to accomplish in me and for me and for others, “miracles” that are beyond my imagination.
Mother Basilea, born Klara Schlink was a German religious leader and writer. She was leader of the Evangelical Sisterhood of Mary, which she cofounded, from 1947 to 2001 and led until her death.
God is holy. God delights in giving gifts, both small and large, when His children pray in faith. God welcomes our partnership in making things happen. God desires repentant, pure hearts and sometimes delays His answers until His children are in right relationship with Him and with each other.
“Only good things come from God's hands. He never gives you more than you can bear. Every burden prepares you for eternity." - Basilea Schlink
Though my mother gave me my own copy in 1989, I also have her copy from the 1970's, all the more special with her highlighting, underlining, and handwritten notes. This is the copy I read. I had an Ah Ha! moment when I read Chapter 19, "The Plum Orchard." It was here that Mom got the idea of fasting something special to her in support of her prayers. She gave up candy as she prayed for my father's salvation. When he did come to the Lord and she told him about her candy fast, he brought her a large box of chocolates!
