BLOG POST REVIEW: https://bookloveramanda.blogspot.com/...

This is probably my 9th or 10th Nancy Mehl read, and every time she just brings such great suspense and faith content to the table! Nancy delivers an intense and gripping read in this first book of the Erin Delaney Mystery Series! We have psychological depth and small town intrigue that will keep you on the edge of your seat reading!

Set in Tennessee at a cabin in the Smoky Mountains, Mehl sets the stage with an eerie and unsettling atmosphere. The isolated cabin, chilling cries in the night and the looming presences of a ruthless serial killer create QUITE the spooky environment!

Our main character, Erin Delaney, is finding solace at the cabin with her friend Kaely Quinn as she confronts the ghosts of her past. Erin is a best selling author who writes mysteries & a former police officer who has been through a lot, so taking a break is much needed for her. The town of Sanctuary turns out to be filled with chaos as police chief Adrian Nightengale requests Erin and Kaely's help in finding their unsub in a murder case. Story kicks off from here as we ensue a high stakes investigation with our characters.

My favorite part of this was seeing Kaely Quinn back in action. A great friendship story between Erin and Kaely was shown here as well, which led to some much needed healing and case solving. Kaely shows Erin, who is not a believer, how good God is and how He can provide the ultimate healing she seeks. I also loved the Tennessee setting here, as a TN girl myself!

Lots of twists and turns in this one, as always with Nancy's stories! Highly recommend for fans of psychological thrillers, gripping mysteries and books with just the right amount of eerie tension. 🕵️‍♀️🔦

🔥Excited to read the next one in the series later this year! Thank you to Bethany House for a copy to honestly read and review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

When she finally finds peace, she must confront her tragic past to stop a serial killer.

Nancy Mehl’s first book, Shattered Sanctuary, in her new series, The Erin Delaney Mysteries, reinforces the idea that our lives are a tapestry woven from threads of our experiences. Trauma has become a defining thread in the tapestry of Erin Delaney, former police officer, and she’s grown weary navigating her new world. When her friend, Kaely Quinn-Hunter suggests a week at an isolated cabin in the Smoky Mountains, Erin is hopeful that it’ll be the experience she needs to reclaim her strength and resilience. Unfortunately, the getaway in the town of Sanctuary is anything but a peaceful retreat.

Although the week in the woods doesn’t go as planned, it still offers Erin a chance to work through her trauma rather than outrun it. It’s obvious to readers that she misses using her talent to combat evil, so when Erin’s offered a chance to see UNSUB profiling in action and become an important part of an investigation, the new purpose builds Erin’s resilience. I loved watching someone emerge from the confines of trauma with a determined mindset that it wouldn’t define her as it did in the past.

The mystery in the woods kept me turning pages and the idea that a serial killer was on the loose kept me committed to the book until well past my bedtime. Mehl’s ability to weave in faith threads added to the plot and I was reminded about what God can do to help our resilience in facing the enemy. I liked Adrian’s character for the peaceful balance it added to the plot and Kaely’s character for the intrigue element. I’m sure these characters will contribute to book two and I can’t wait to see what Mehl has in store for her readers. This series is off to a great start.

I was gifted this copy by Bethany House and NetGalley and was under no obligation to provide a review.

Shattered Sanctuary by Nancy Mehl features a re-occurring character from a previous series. As for the suspense element, I like the idea of a serial killer. However, I was a little disappointed that the body count was not higher throughout the story. It would have made the chase a little more exciting. Plus, the climactic moment to reveal and end the killer was about two pages long. I wanted more. Too easy of an out to end the suspenseful element that readers are reading this story for. While the heroine, Erin, does have some issues to deal with in order to be a good FBI agent and / or writer, Mehl does a wonderful job at using the other character to work with her through these issues. Majority of their conversation was filtered through a Christian lens, and I really liked that aspect. Even gave me something to ponder in my personal life. This is one of things that I adore about Christian fiction. Sometimes the author uses a lesson that the reader can use at that moment in their personal life. Nicely done! While the lesson was important to Erin and I liked it, I still wanted to spend more time with the suspense element. I hope that the next novel or two in the series can focus more on the suspense element. I know that Mehl can do that. I have enjoyed her previous two series. As a side note, there is a romance that could start to bubble into something more in an upcoming novel, so readers might want to pay attention to those subtle clues. Overall, Shattered Sanctuary by Nancy Mehl has an interesting concept for a killer, but I felt let down by the overall delivery of the killer’s story and demise.

I wanted to love this book, but sadly it fell a little flat. Usually this author draws me in with her twisted serial killer plots, but this story felt more focused on the character, Erin, healing from past trauma with a dash of serial killer on the side. The story lacked intensity, and it was missing those nail biting moments that typically accompany a hunt for a killer. Erin was hard to related to and I struggled to find sympathy for her. She seemed to expect healing to come on her own terms while bypassing therapy, friends, and any other solution that could have actually been helpful. There were long inner monologues, and even longer discussions between Erin and the famous Karly Quinn that made up the bulk of this story. There was a heavy emphasis on faith, redemption, and God’s forgiveness and healing which was appreciated, but it really slowed the paced of this book down to a crawl. I was hoping for more investigation, less Kaely Quinn, and more of those intense edge of your seat moments and it just didn’t deliver.

I was quickly taken in by the main characters, Erin and Kaely. They each brought interesting professional backgrounds that reinforced the story. I liked how profiling skills were woven into the storyline, taking some of the focus off the serial killer.

Lots of tension and action kept me on the edge of my seat. The descriptions of the victims were handled well without all the excessive gore. Underlying Christian beliefs were woven throughout the story without being preachy. I enjoyed following the growth of both main characters. I can't wait to read the next book in the series.

I received an ARC from the author; a positive review is not required. All opinions are my own.

Sanctuary, Tennessee, should be an idyllic place to escape from stress and to just spend time with a friend, or that is what former police officer Erin Delaney expects when she decides to spend a week with her friend and phone counselor Kaely Quinn. Quinn, a former FBI profiler, sets up the plans for the trip and convinces Erin to leave the safety of her apartment and travel to the mountains to spend a week talking and shopping, just relaxing basically. Plans went awry quickly when Erin is called to a murder scene the first night that she is there. A young woman has been killed and the signs immediately point to a serial killer. Erin feels useful since she can use her skills as a former police officer as well as her current knowledge as an author of a best-selling murder mystery. But nothing prepares her for the evil that lurks around the small town of Sanctuary as she and Kaely have to use all of their skill to try to catch a killer before they become the target. Filled with red herrings and lots of clues to follow, this book has the signature style of a master author who knows well how to captivate her audience and keep us all reading. The tension in the story is relentless as a blizzard threatens, a young woman is missing and the town is at the mercy of an unknown killer. With clever twists that are satisfying and edgy and a brilliantly complex plot, this book captured my imagination, making it so that I could not turn the pages fast enough or get enough of this book. With an intriguing plot and relatable characters, this is a fast-paced thrill ride into the heart of a killer storm and the murderer who waits in it for his next victim.

Series: Erin Delaney Mysteries, #1
Format: audiobook with Audible
Narrator: Stephanie Einstein - First time hearing this narrator. I liked all of her voices excepting the voice for Erin. It was too formal and snooty-sounding. It didn't fit her character. Everything else was great!

Challenge Prompt: CFG's "suspense, mystery, or horror" -- suspense with a mystery

Book #34 of 2025: I think this may be my favourite Nancy Mehl novel yet! I enjoyed this new lead character, Erin. And having Kaely Quinn-Hunter (from a previous series) in the story made it even better! What was supposed to be a restful vacation for Erin ends up being serious business with a serial killer on the loose. There are also some lighter moments in the story with the café that pays homage to Dolly Parton, an injured and homeless dog, a quirky secretary, etc.

The storyline with the serial killer is very interesting. I had a couple of concerns about the killer's reasoning and motivation; but then I realized I was trying to make an insane sociopath have reasoning! Sheesh!

The friendship between Erin and Kaely is special. They work together so well to help the police chief with the very unexpected serial killer mystery. Erin as a former police officer, and Kaely as an FBI agent, are even better as a team. Even more than that is how sincere and dedicated Kaely is to being there for her friend. She prayerfully asks for guidance to help Erin through a very rough time. Erin's situation is precarious and we see her take great strides throughout the novel.

I'm looking forward to the rest of the series to see where things go with Erin, the police chief, and the various Sanctuary characters. I'm hoping Kaely returns again because the symbiotic nature between her and Erin is amazing.

What was meant to be a getaway to decompress for friends Erin Delaney and Kaely Quinn-Hunter has been totally upset on the first full day by a knock on the door from Chief Adrian Nightengale. A body has been found that has him requesting help from the two behavioral analysts. No murders have occurred in a very long time and now Sanctuary, Tennessee has four.
Ms Mehl has done a stellar job of writing an exciting, intricate murder mystery, complete with a supposed ghost legend and danger during a snowstorm.
I loved seeing Kaely again and getting to see her demonstrate her unusual technique for profiling. Erin was a complex character who was not a Christian, so that gave Kaely a challenge in being her friend while not being pushy with her witness. She exhibited listening to the Holy Spirit.
I have to admit that I did not guess the identity of the culprit this time. I was completely wrong. Good job Ms. Mehl!
This was another exceptional suspense story that really had me turning pages. The personalities of the characters came through, the setting was wonderful, and Chester the dog was a great touch.
I am looking forward to the next installment of this series. I hope it is back in Sanctuary and maybe a romance for Erin and Adrian.

Excellent start to Nancy's newest series. I really felt for Erin and everything she had been through. It was great to see Kaely in the story and I love the friendship between Erin and Kaely and how she is able to help Erin come to terms with all Erin has been through before the story. The secondary plot added so much to the mystery that Erin and Kaely are pulled into. The mystery was well crafted and had me reading most of this book in one setting. This series is going to be good and I am here for it!

What an excellent start to a brand new series! I love Nancy Mehl's books as they always carry fast pace suspense, intrigue, and so many unexpected twists! In Shattered Sanctuary, Erin Delaney escapes to a remote cabin to find peace after a tragic incident. This all comes shattering down when when she hears screams in the woods. Now she must delve back into the world of being a cop to hunt down the killer lurking in the woods. With a race against time, she must find the killer before she becomes the next victim.

Ah! This book was so good! I wish I could reread it again for the first time! If you love Christian mystery and suspense then this book is for you!

Great suspense and not too scary. This gripping story deals with a serial killer in a rural community. Two women who are former law enforcement come to the area to get away for healing and refresh themselves, unaware they are stumbling into the trauma and drama unfolding there. And throw in a ghost of a murdered woman, or someone pretending to be the specter, hanging around the cabin they rented, and the tension ramps up even more. The murderer was hard to figure out. But it was never fully explained exactly why he was on the rampage. I received a copy from the author. All opinions are my own.

I know that when I pick up a Nancy Mehl book I am going to be up all night turning the pages until I know who the culprit is. If you are familiar with the Kaely Quinn Profiler series and loved it then you will really enjoy this one as we get to see Kaely once again in action. I love the team up with her and Erin Delaney for so many reasons!

We meet Erin who is a former cop and has some serious PTSD and trauma from a past case. She becomes an author or criminal suspense and has a lot of success. She meets Kaely while doing research for her book and both of them become friends. Kaely is a believer and Erin struggles with accepting that God exists. I love that Kaely is herself with her and lets Erin see what believing in Jesus truly looks like.

They decide to meet up at a cabin in the Smoky Mountains to get away from it all, well they definitely encounter some intrigue as not everything goes according to plan and immediately they are both submerged in solving murders happening in the area. Seriously, I don't know how this author does it but she had me turning the pages like crazy. I also love how she incorporates faith throughout the story despite it being so creepy at times.

There is not a whole lot of romance in this book but there is the potential of something more happening between Erin and Adrian, who is the towns cop. I do enjoy how Mehl takes relationships slower in the series making them more realistic in the long run. So I am very curious and looking forward to seeing their relationship grow.

If you enjoy shows like Criminal Minds then this author should definitely be on your TBR lists and grab this book if that is the genre you are into!

Shattered Sanctuary brings together Erin Delaney, an ex-cop turned author and Kaeley Quinn-Hunter, former FBI profiler. We met Kaeley in a previous series but it is not necessary to read that series first but it could be helpful to understand her personality and her method of doing things. I hope she appears in future books since it is nice to catch up on what is happening in her life since the last book she was featured in. Kaely is a born again Christian; Erin is not. Kaely wants to witness the joy of Christ to her friend but treads lightly. She doesn't want to push her away. Erin has baggage from her past to deal with. Kaely and Erin meet up in a town in Tennessee called Sanctuary. From the townspeople they learn stories of ghosts and murders from the past in this little Dolly Parton loving town. They intend to have a relaxing few days in Sanctuary but it is anything but relaxing when a series of murders of young women occur in Sanctuary and Erin and Kaely have to put thier heads together and use thier profiling skills to catch a serial killer but he kills again. Five women have already died.

If you like a book with not a lot of romance in it this book is for you. I think in the future there is a possibility with a certain law enforcement officer but in the meantime Erin is content with her new furry friend Chester.

Thanks to LibraryThing and Netgalley for providing me a book to read and review. I was not compensated and all opinions are my own.

I can't wait until the next book in the series will be released. There was a preview at the end of the book so it should be coming Fall 2025.

Erin and Kaely were such fun characters to read about. I mean yes, the mystery/suspense part of the book was great for sure, but for me it's their friendship that made the story so much more enjoyable. Plus the way they look at things and analyze things, I felt like I was right there with them. Most of my favorite shows are crime related shows, and I love trying to solve the mystery as well as understand why the bad guys do what they do. I also can't resist piecing together the puzzle right along with the characters!

I know I can always rely on Mehl for a great faith message as well, and she does not disappoint here. It touched my heart in many different ways. But perhaps what took the cake the most was Erin's journey. I don't want to give anything away, but she had some things to overcome and this murder mystery was the perfect way for her to sort of come out of her shell. I loved it!

I'm excited to see what happens next in this fun new series from Mehl. I know she'll keep me on my toes and enjoying the ride. :)

Do you love contemporary Christian suspense novels? I do, and Nancy Mehl’s Shattered Sanctuary kept me turning the pages well into the night!

Erin Delaney is a best-selling mystery author - one who rarely leaves her house. She’s also an ex-cop who faced a huge, traumatic event while on the force. While writing her novel, she’s become online friends with Kaely Quinn-Hunter, ex-FBI behavioral analyst, who has helped her immensely in “getting things right” in her novel. As a Christian, Kaely’s greatest hope is that her friend Erin comes to know Christ as she does. Mehl naturally weaves faith throughout the book. It never seems preachy or forced.

Knowing that Erin has become very reclusive, she suggests a girls trip to a cabin in the small town of Sanctuary. Erin, arriving before Kaely, finds the cabin to be a beautiful, peaceful retreat. However, that peace is quickly shattered when a body is found in the woods nearby, and police chief Adrian Nightengale, knowing Erin’s background, seeks out her help.

Shattered Sanctuary captured my attention right from the start. I love watching shows and reading books in which profiling plays a big role. It’s fascinating to me how agents take in a murder scene or scenes and develop an accurate profile of the perpetrator. This fits right in there with great profiling without any graphic descriptions.

The way Kaely profiles killers is a bit different, but I thought it was really interesting. There’s a series before this one (that I have not read) that features Kaely, and I’ll definitely be checking it out. Mehl is wonderful at making her characters very realistic, and she doesn’t hide their flaws. I thought that the main characters had a lot of depth, and I also appreciated how the side characters fit in.

I highly recommend Shattered Sanctuary and can’t wait for the next Erin Delaney book! If you love reading Christian suspense with well-developed characters, you’ve got to read Shattered Sanctuary by Nancy Mehl. 5 stars!

Bravo! I now have a new author to add to my automatic must read list.

I was immediately captivated by the description of the story and was not disappointed. It is a multi-layered story with expert plot pacing. The two main characters intrigued me, with their individual pasts in law enforcement and personal traumas to overcome. Erin and Kaely meet for a girls week away at a cabin in a small tourist town in Tennessee.

The main plot was centered around a serial killer and a body count that continued to grow. I loved the way the author used the women's skills to profile the killer. With tension mounting, I found myself glued to the page. Ms. Mehl skillfully parcels out clues, at times allowing part of the story to be told from the killer's POV.

Woven throughout is a story of healing. Of confronting one's personal demons. It also has a faith thread without being preachy, allowing the characters to draw strength from their faith. One character is a Christian, the other is not. How does one prove a creator's existence in a world where bad things happen? The is a story of hope in the midst of darkness.

I am looking forward to reading more of Erin's story in future installments of this series.

Shattered Sanctuary was the first book I have read written by Nancy Mehl and I look forward to reading some more in the future. The story hooked me from the very beginning.

The character development was good. I enjoyed getting to watch Erin struggle through her issues and learn to work through her trauma. I appreciated Kaely’s friendship (first time meeting in person) and how she was there to support Erin through this while also, working on her process to help with the case. All the characters added to the story and were fun. I look forward to the next book. Also, while looking up other books, it seems like there is a series for Kaely which I think I will have to add to my TBR list.

The setting and storyline were great. As someone who loves Criminal Minds and crime shows, I loved the FBI BAU and law enforcement background aspect of this book. I loved getting to see the process behind solving these cases. I also loved the small-town element.

The romance element was light, as there is a possibility of one in the future. I appreciated the no spice.

The suspense element was great. I loved trying to figure out who the killer was and who else was linked to these killings.

Nancy Mehl did a great job intertwining faith throughout the book.

I read this book in one day because I just had to know what happened! This is a great way to start a new series!

Erin Delaney is a flawed character, battling her past experiences and blaming herself for more than she should. She wrestles with the acceptance of a God who would let bad things happen. So does the killer. The parallels drawn between the two are subtle, so don’t miss them!

Nancy Mehl includes a spiritual journey and conversations that dive deeper into who God is and why hard things happen. These overt discussions are not pushed upon the characters but in answer to questions and clues, all while trying to understand the perpetrator and events that occurred in the past. Some truths are- God is the same yesterday, today and forever-Old Testament and New Testament. He is a loving God. We live in a fallen world of sin that He is not responsible for. That was not His plan. He is also judge over that sin. The same sin that Jesus paid the price for.

This story is very well written.

This book is suitable for mature teens and older with no inappropriate intimate scenes and no bad language. I received this book from the publisher through LibraryThing free of charge, with no expectation of a positive review.

This book drew me in so quickly and I finished it in less than 24 hours!

If you have read books by this author, you may remember Kaely and her unusual way to profile suspects. Kaely befriends Erin, who is struggling with some PTSD. I love how Kaely supports Erin but doesn't push Christianity onto her. The week long vacation in the cabin is such a sweet aspect to the story!

Chester is such a great character and brings so much support to Erin!

The psychological aspect in this story is strong and the reader is left trying to figure out who is involved.

Thanks to justreads and the publisher for the arc. The opinions are my own.

While I enjoyed Nancy’s other books this one was okay. I liked that Kaely was back (she’s my fave FMC series by Nancy) and the town of Sanctuary. However, it felt more of a come to Jesus book than a murder/mystery. I’m a Christian and enjoy that aspect to her books, however, if I’m reading a murder/mystery I feel that should be the main theme. It was a stretch for me and for some reason I couldn’t connect to Erin’s character. I still enjoyed Kaelys character best and her prayer life. Overall, still an easy & enjoyable read.

Oh wow, Shattered Sanctuary is a wonderful start to a new series by Nancy Mehl. There is tons of suspense with a mystery to solve. Just who is the serial killer who is murdering women in the small town of Sanctuary.

We get to see the story through four points of view. Erin Delaney, Kaely Quinn-Hunter, police chief Adrian Nightengale, plus the anonymous killer. If you recognize the name Kaely Quinn-Hunter, you may be just excited as I was when I realized she was going to be a major character in this book. I absolutely LOVED the author's Kaely Quinn Profiler series. While we have seen Kaely pop up in other books, in this book she plays just as important a roll as Erin does. We get a bit of an update on Kaely's life and then she joins Erin in the small town of Sanctuary. The plan was to have a relaxing time, getting to know each other better while helping Erin to deal with trauma from her past. What they weren't expecting was to be dragged into a murder case. It was actually a little weird that they were drawn in, seeing as neither of them were currently working as police or FBI agents. But with their backgrounds, the police chief was helping they could use their skills to help him solve the case before anyone else was murdered.

The author kept me guessing right to the end as there were quite a few individuals that could have been the killer. I found the mystery of it quite compelling, especially because we got to get into the POV of the killer. And there were little hints and clues added to the story. The author also included a tale from the past that included a poem/rhyme that put the characters and my self on edge. The reader had to wonder what part the past murder was going to play on the story.

I loved that we got to see Kaely in action again, and got to see her special type of profiling. Which can also get a bit creepy. If you haven't read the original Kaely Quinn Profiler series, you may want to start with that one, just to get to know Kaely better. Though other than that, this story can stand on it's own.

I also love that the author doesn't shy away from making the Gospel and faith an important part of the story.

Oh, and there are a couple of cute dogs which are important to the storyline. Which always makes a book even better.

The one thing I did struggle with a bit was the detailed desciptions which at times slowed the story down. That said, I still finished the book in a day as I was on the edge of my seat, zinging through pages, because the plot gripped me from the start. I needed to know who the killer was and couldn't put the book down.

Definitely highly recommended.

In this the first of the Erin Delaney Mystery Series, we again meet profiler Kaley whose story was told in Nancy Mehl's previous enthralling "Kaley Quinn Series." Her profiler experiences have given direction and authority to former police woman, Erin Delaney, who whilst on PSTD leave wrote a highly successful book. Their work together has brought them to friendship, and this friendship has led to Kaley's counseling Erin during this difficult time.

They've decided to spend a week together in retreat in the beautiful Smokey Mountains of Tennessee. A bit off season, it has turned cold and a major snow storm is predicted. As they begin their, hopefully, restful week, a body is discovered near their isolated cabin.

As we meet the town of Sanctuary's residents and as we become privy to conversations between Erin and Kaley, we find individuals just like the personages in your own hometown.

Erin is a non-believer and a troubled soul beset with remorse and guilt. Kaley is a strong Christian and she shares her faith but isn't pushy. She only desires that Erin find peace of soul and mind.

Who is the culprit? Who amongst the nice folks they've met might be the guilty person? Or is it someone else?

Nancy Mehl has started us off on another series that promises tangled webs and believable characters.

the start of a new nancy mehl series!

haunted by past tragedy and hounded by her bestselling book's popularity, erin delaney retreats to a cabin in the smoky mountains to spend time with a friend, kaely quinn-hunter. of course, while there, the little town of sanctuary uncovers evidence that points to a serial killer, and local police chief adrian nightengale could use the help of erin and kaely. will they be able to find the killer before he strikes again?

i really enjoyed kaely's series from mehl, but unfortunately, i think she overshadowed the new characters in this series. i wanted more from erin and adrian, yet so much of the mystery and interpersonal development revolve around kaely's involvement. she uses her unique process to help find the killer, while also helping erin face the trauma of her past, using both psychology and faith. given this is the first book in "the erin delaney mysteries," it's hard to tell how the series will continue and what the dynamic will be.

all in all, though, shattered sanctuary is a solid suspense from nancy mehl. just be sure to read kaely's series first.

(i received a complimentary copy from the author. i was not required to write a positive review, and all the opinions i have expressed are my own.)

considerations:
—language: none
—spice: none
—faith: mentions of angels, spirits, and ghosts; kaely relies on her relationship with God and talks to erin about it
—content: death, murder, guilt, suicidal thoughts

What a page-turner!!! I could not put it down. Shattered Sanctuary is a riveting who-dun-it! I highly recommend it, this is a great start to a new series, and I can't wait for the next story. Get this book if you want a story that keeps you on the edge of your seat!

Erin Delaney is still completely traumatized by events that caused her to quit the St. Louis Police Department. In the aftermath of her experiences she writes a best seller and becomes friends with Kaely Quinn Hunter along the way. (I highly recommend the Kaely Quinn Profiler series by Nancy Mehl).

Kaely and Erin plan a week away together to relax, and instead are instrumental in helping the local police chief Adrian Nightengale profile a serial killer that is striking this small town. At the same time, Kaely who has lived through trauma herself, hopes to help Erin confront the trauma from her past.

Thank you to the author and publisher for allowing me to read an early copy of Shattered Sanctuary, all opinions are my own.

Can she step out of the prison of her past....

When I want a good suspense novel with some real thriller elements one of the authors I always reach for is Nancy Mehl. She always delivers a spine-tingling tale with plenty of surprises that I can't seem to put down. She keeps me on the edge of my seat while reading and then looking over my shoulder after I've finished. Her Kaely Quinn series was a prime example of that so I was really looking forward to Shattered Sanctuary, especially when I found out that Kaely was going to be in the first book in the Erin Delaney Mysteries.

And, oh, did Shattered Sanctuary far outpace even my expectations. From Nancy Mehl's tragedy scarred heroine, Erin to the creepiest criminal profile scene EVER, from the power of a Tennessee snow storm to an insane killer – oh, and don't forget the ghost story – this initial book in the Erin Delaney Mysteries series was so delightfully chilling and eerie.

Erin Delaney is, herself, quite a character. Trauma from the past has her overwhelmed with pain and fear. Nancy Mehl tackles this with an understanding and empathy that makes her character seem even more real and believable especially to those who have experienced or are close to someone who has experienced significant trauma in their lives. Shattered Sanctuary is just the start and I am really looking forward to Erin's continuing to slowly step out of the shadows.

This was an emotionally moving story that also kept me guessing. I love stories that engage both of those elements in my brain and I can't wait to read the next book....

So excited that Nancy Mehl has brought Kaely Quinn back as a mentor and friend to her new character, Erin Delaney!
Make sure you are ready for an adventure of profiling a murderer! This book is the beginning of a new series but is a spinoff from the Kaely Quinn series. You don’t have to read the first series to enjoy the new one but if you read the first series it has added facets. I actually recommend that you read all her books if you like adrenaline rushing through you! She is one of my very favorite authors!

I really enjoyed this first book in Nancy Mehl's newest series. Erin who suffers from a past incident in her police career is now turned well known author. She never leaves her house, but a friend's phone call changes everything!

A friendship story, romance and a mystery that keeps on giving.

The faith story of a friend who is trying to show her friend the amazing grace and love of God is at the heart of this story and was done so well.

*thank you to Bethany House for a complimentary copy of this book to read, all thoughts are my own.
