Death Whispers (Mary Howard Supernatural Mysteries Series).
Mary Howard is a failed writer. She is also rich, clumsy, a virgin, and she can see dead people - a gift that she believes is a curse. A visit from a recently murdered spirit starts a sequence of events that means that Mary can no longer ignore the ghosts that taunt her. She finds herself surrounded by spirits, ghosts, and ghouls, the jet-setting types that she despises, a handsome detective inspector who sends her senses soaring and her temper flaring, and above all of this, her life is in danger! Can Mary come to terms with the gift of being a medium before time runs out and more dead bodies are found?
Excerpt:
The high pitched scream echoed with needle-sharp pain in Mary’s ears. She wanted to wrap her arms around her head; but was unable to, due to the spirit’s weight bearing down on her body holding her in place. "Oh my God!" she silently screamed, unable to shout due to the pressure on her chest. "What is it, oh dear God, what is it?"

The first few chapters didn't impress me but thankfully from reviews I already knew this. as it moved along it became better and better. Then I wasn't impressed by the ending at all.
Mary being a author at 22 not doing very well at all . she hasn't written anything good. But her grandmother being a famous author and passing, left her a ton of money. Mary however is a medium she sees ghosts and never told anyone. she was afraid people would think.she was crazy. her grandmother suspected as well. Mary being what she is and seeing a ghost that says her BFFs name knows she has to go see her. indeed her boyfriend was murdered. Kate ends up with the detective in charge of the case, Lee. When he suspects Kate Mary freaks out and tells him her secret. of course Kate didn't know either. now Mary is attached to Lee helping on the case when it turns to a romance. a bunch of drama occurs. Mary tel k s Lee to never speak to her again. then she's attacked. her pho.e cal'm s Lee where uhh check is odd cause it was under the chair. I guess the spirits called himm because she was dying. she still refused to see him. he's hurt and leaves. first.ally m o.this later she decided to talk to.him. with n y st a hey how are you it's all great again and the book ends. no life uhh s not that simple and easy. after months Hess a guy he'll move on. a couple weeks affair even if he says he's in love with her, he is not going to wait. so I can't find the end believable. unless he is hooked up with someone else cause I guess you have to go to book 2 too find out. but besides the ending. the book was good, a fast read, not too many mistakes that it interrupts the story or even.bothers you. pretty well put together story. I think Kate could've been in it more and Mary could've been less of a crybaby and nasty after she finds out the truth about Lee and he did save her l u feel at least talk to him. otherwise I'd say read it. it's good, exciting, mysterious, some details on child abuse nothing too major. of course the spirits and Mary seeing them. it's also written UK style not American..but that's ok with me. give it a try.
I wanted to like this book and I think the author has promise. Unfortunately the plot is weak.
It is too heavy on the dialogue and as soon as the romance part starts anything else ceases to exist. I enjoy some romance mixed in, but although the concept could have made for a decent story it just lacks depth. I couldn't finish it I'm sorry to say. Also doesn't seem realistic that the heroine would want to jump into bed with someone e after witnesses such awful stuff and she was a bit too needy overall. This sounds really harsh, but I think if the author took another swing at it and worked with an editor she might have something. This strikes me as a rough first draft.
I NORMALLY DON’T READ PARANORMAL (not that I don’t like them) BUT AFTER READING THE DESCRIPTION I DECIDED TO TRY IT. MARY IS PRETTY MUCH A LONER IN HER SMALL WORLD BUT SHE HAS PLENTY OF COMPANY BECAUSE “SHE SEE’S DEAD PEOPLE). SHE GOES TO SEE HER BFF BECAUSE SHE CAN’T REACH HER; THIS VISIT TURNS OUT TO BE A LIFE CHANGING EXPERIENCE. THE WRITING STYLE SORTA JUMPS AROUND AT TIMES AND THE CHARACTERS WERE A BIT QUIRKY. I KNOW MOST ROMANCE BOOKS HAVE INTA-LOVE BUT I FOUND THIS HAPPENED REALLY FAST IN THIS ONE. ;D
But a lot of italics through it, it was a little much. It also had the stammering worded confusing and didn't hyphenate like most people do and had a lot of letters all together. I enjoyed what happened and the mystery and paranormal aspects and it was pretty good. That made up for the kinda sloppy writing. If you can ignore it you'll like the story and characters
I've read reviews/feedback on this boom both here and at Amazon; a lot of those being negative. I'm kind of on the fence for lack of better wording. I don't think this was an exceptionally good read, but it wasn't bad either. It does have some errors and a few awkwardly worded phrases, the the plot is pretty good and I like the chemistry between the lead characters.
The first chapter or two is slow, but it gets better after that.... I do think the author and book has some promise.
This book is a fast-paced read. I wasn't impressed with the romance progressing so quickly and the story and characters lacked depth. I don't know how I made it to the end of this book when I don't feel like we get to know the characters so well. The book had a promising plot but failed to excite in the end. While not my favorite Supernatural Mystery, I will read the next book as I can't stand to not finish a set of books.
.D.N.F. I understand its written in UK grammer. But the wordiness is bothersome. The whole first chapter is a bore. Ya Main character goes on and on with the "poor pitiful me"made me want to break out in song for her, "nobody likes me, everybody hates me, think I'll eat some worms" song. I skipped and went to next chapter to only skimming it as well.
This was pretty darned awful. The plot idea was fun, so that's why I ordered it, but the woman can't write. It's been a long time since I've read such a dud.
Mary is a person who can communicate with ghosts and Kate is a friend of hers. Mary is attacked by someone or something and Kate's boyfriend is murdered. She ends up teamed with a detective as they find more murders happening then try to link the murders back to a terrible orphanage. This gets complicated with Mary and the detective end up falling for each other.
What happens, though, when you think there is a killer but there turns out to be more than one? A well-done story.
